Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. Tonight, for your delectation and pursuant to our Sunday night classical music show, here are Itzhak Perlman and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra performing Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto in D, Opus 35, Zubin Mehta conducting, in Russia (10:21). This video, through its end, is beautiful on many levels.
Your Reader Tips are, as always, welcome in the comments.

Though I'm not a fan of the recent budget, at least no one on the Left can [honestly] say that there wasn't wide consultation and bipartisanship.
Watching a video clip of American talkshow host, John Batchelor, I was struck by how little consultation and consideration is going on stateside. I commented about this here.
Two years from now, when I predict there'll be a massive swing back to the Republicans, I wonder if Rahm Emanuel's arrogance will be quite as strong?!
Damn Steelers. They don't need another Super Bowl. But I thought they'd win it, and I predicted 34-13, so it was closer than I thought. But Bruce Arthur, in the National Post on Friday, picked the final score EXACTLY!
"President Abbas" ?!?
I'm listening to BBC Radio 4 News right now and just heard the reporter refer to "President Abbas". What exactly is he president of?
I thought that Hamas was the democratically elected party of the Palestinians? Isn't referring to Abbas as "President" somewhat akin to referring to Ignatieff as PM?
I ask these questions sincerely, as I am confused on the issue.
how does one launch a human rights complaint against Kinsella, just for shits and giggles, and the free money when i win
It's not about shits and giggles, you retarded moron, it's about a serious challenge to our now-classic standards of freedom per clause 2 of the Charter. Everything else pales in comparison, jurisprudentially speaking, though, clearly, that appears to be at least to some degree beyond some peoples' grasp.

My thoughts exactly. Why would he risk his family by being in "business" with the likes of Roszko? And why is his family defending it? AT LEAST the two of them could have phoned the police after dropping Roszko off at his farm. It still would've saved 4 lives.

“My job is to communicate to the American people that the Muslim world is filled with extraordinary people who simply want to live their lives and see their children live better lives,” President Obama told an Arabic television channel Jan. 26. (Via Comment Central) Janet Daley, Europeans are finally waking up to the demise of democracy
The peoples of Europe have finally discovered what they signed up to. I do mean "peoples" (plural) because however much political elites may deceive themselves, the populations of the member states of the EU are culturally, historically and economically separate and distinct. And a significant proportion of them are getting very, very angry.
What the strikers at the Lindsey oil refinery (and their brother supporters in Nottinghamshire and Kent) have discovered is the real meaning of the fine print in those treaties, and the significance of those European court judgments whose interpretation they left to EU obsessives: it is now illegal – illegal – for the government of an EU country to put the needs and concerns of its own population first...

The Conservative Party raised a record $21.2 million in 2008 according to fundraising data available at the Elections Canada website but as yet unannounced in a news release. Elections Canada is expected to announce the release of the parties' 4th Quarter Returns later today, but has already entered the data into their online database.
The Conservatives beat their previous record of $18.7M in 2006, and raised more than 1.5 times the amount raised by all their competitors combined.
The NDP also scored a personal best of $5.5M just behind the Liberals, who at $5.9M managed to improve on their 2007 performance of $4.5M, but were still down from their 2006 showing of $9-9.8M (see below for some notes on the data).
The other big gainer in last year's fundraising stats was the Green Party, raising $1.6M in 2008, up from $985K in 2007 and $776K the year before. The Bloc Québécois raised $713K, down slightly from their recent best of $736K in 2005.

"Man lands safely after skydiving instructor dies mid-air
CHESTER, S.C. - A Georgia-based soldier says his military training helped him land safely on his first skydiving jump after the instructor he was tethered to died from an apparent heart attack as they parachuted over South Carolina.
Daniel Pharr says he knew something was wrong when George Steele stopped answering his questions after their parachute deployed Saturday afternoon. They jumped from 4,000 metres.
Pharr says he didn't panic because of his army training, and he knew from watching television to use the parachute toggles to steer.
The 25-year-old, stationed at Fort Gordon, Ga., says the nonmilitary jump at Skydive Carolina was a Christmas gift from his girlfriend.
Pharr says he tried unsuccessfully to revive Steele with CPR when they landed."

The days of being able to distinguish the prime minister and the leader of the Official opposition as "cat person" versus "dog person" are over.
Michael Ignatieff was quoted over the weekend saying he's looking to adopt two Burmese kittens.
The previous opposition leader, Stéphane Dion, was a self-proclaimed dog person and Harper jokingly warned Canadians that it signalled a weakness to be loved. "I think people should elect a cat person," Harper said in 2006. "If you elect a cat person, you elect someone who wants to serve."
No word on whether Harper will reiterate these views in two weeks with visiting U.S. President Barack Obama, who is in the market for a puppy.

Roger Scruton, Forgiveness and Irony: What makes the West strong
Wherever the Western vision of political order has gained a foothold, we find freedom of expression: not merely the freedom to disagree with others publicly about matters of faith and morality but also the freedom to satirize solemnity and to ridicule nonsense, including solemnity and nonsense of the sacred kind. This freedom of conscience requires secular government. But what makes secular government legitimate?
That question is the starting point of Western political philosophy...

I used to live in San Francisco. The San Francisco that despite having been roiled by hippies, beatniks, anti-this-and-that, still had the feel of the charming, civilized town that it had been when Alfred Hitchcock was shooting his masterpieces there."
"But if you consider how San Francisco has become Anustown steered by space aliens, how the majority of its normal, decent people just faded into the frames of Alfred Hitchcock’s films, the range of actually viable choices becomes quite a lot smaller."

The decline of the family has now reached critical and truly dangerous proportions. Family breakdown touches virtually every family and every American. It is not only the major source of social instability in the Western world today but also seriously threatens civic freedom and constitutional government.
G. K. Chesterton once observed that the family serves as the principal check on government power, and he suggested that someday the family and the state would confront one another. That day has arrived.
