Congratulations Ryan Bater. Welcome to the launch-pad of political success that is the Liberal Party of Canada, (Saskatchewan).
Oh, wait, I guess it's now the Saskatchewan Liberal Party.
After ten years of electoral losses, the party's splitting into two separate branches: provincial and federal.
And their website?
Cheers,
lance

Steps toward prosperity
1. Fire the NDP.
2. Separate the provincial and federal Liberal parties.
"The party also asserted three principles it hopes will see them into the future: free enterprise, personal liberty, and responsible government."
Brilliant comedy writing!
Here in B.C., when Gordon Campbell and the Liberals first ran for office, it was not-so-subtly hinted they were actually the old Socred Party, who had reigned over a prosperous Province for so many years, in a new incarnation.
But, over the years, it became obvious they are the Liberal Party of Canada, with loyalty to that Eastern based organization, and are funded by the same people.
And like the LPC, their ONLY quest is for power, at any cost.
Saskatchewanians, don't believe their BS, keep the bastards on the political fringe. You already have one Left-wing Party, there is nothing to be gained by having another.
lieberal .... LIEBERAL ...... Don't see a difference, either one is still "WHACKY"
Am I the only one who thinks that having a section entitled "iliberal news" is ironic? I know that they don't believe that they are as illiberal as they are percieved, but seriously, putting an i in front of liberal has too much room for misinterpretation.
On another note, can't Apple come after the Sask Liberal party for randomly putting i's in front of things? Or is it just something all the cool kids are doing?
They already tried that in Alberta. How well has it worked for Gliberal weenies there?
It takes more than a statement on a website. It takes concrete action to separate yourselves from the corrupt federal entity. If you claim to be separate, yet time after time leap from the provincial into the federal cesspool, why should we believe you are not connected tongue to @$$ with the corrupt federal entity?
Do the Saskatchewan Liberals see the federal Liberals, as poison goods out west?
as difficult as it seems to be, I have something in common with the Saskatchewan Liberals?
nice web site there Libs...

Out here in Lotus Land or the Left Coast, whatever you choose to call us, the Liberal Party of BC has renamed itself the BCLiberals.

Several years ago both Federal and Provincial parties were rumored to have the same bagman. Don't know if this is true today. It would be interesting to see if Saskatchewan small businesses are shaken down for two cheques by the same collector.
Who cares? This party is dying a very slow death. I am unsure how you go about saying you are for free enterprise when your next occupation is going to be taking a full salary from party members instead of earning it.
dmorris and Gunney99 have both brought up the subject of Gordon Campbell. Campbell and his cronies basically hijacked the old B.C. Liberal Party (From Gordon Wilson) and turned it into their own hybrid vehicle. They don't even pay token acknowledgement to liberalism, in their morphed state.
My view is that they're nothing short of corporate toadies. No principles. No class.
The cabinet ministers do as they're told.
The only classy one amongst them was Carole Taylor, and she bailed.
Can't the Koolaid drinking lefards get it through their heads? A "Liberal" party is still a pack of thieves.Doesn't matter if it is the BC one,the Ab one, etc. They want one thing only...power.Oh.And for you to bend over and kiss your ass good bye, while kissing their hemmeroids! The first, and last, good thing I will say about the frogs....they had it right, guillotine them all!
The Sask Liberals, the last time any got elected took cabinet posts with the NDP. One if memory serves resigned. Since then they haven't had a sniff of being elected. Most of the L candidates in my area last election were East Indian ethnic women. I don't have a problem with that but it isn't mainstream Sk. as far as population representation so we are still going to think they are Liberals. The Sask Party was made up of worn out Conservatives and Liberals but the Liberal Party was left as the rump. The SP got a dynamic leader and away they went representing Sk. instead of the Conservative or Liberal Parties. They tell the closest thing to the truth as a politico can get and have done a good job as far as I am concerned. It seems brands don't work better than ability.
Is this like the People's Front of Judea vs the Judean People's Front?
Kind of ironic on Ryan Bater's website...the boring, over-used "looking off into the distance" photo of him has the North Battleford water treatment plant in the background. Wasn't this the same plant that produced the cryptosporidium outbreak about eight years ago?
Maybe he's trying to get the gullible people to drink his poisoned water???
dmorris - You got that right on the BC Liberals! Campbell AND Taylor are little more than a couple of wind-sniffers, weathervanes, going back to their days in city council. A close friend of my father lived about three doors down from Taylor, he said that her daughter was out of control by the time she was twelve years old. Sound so-called 'liberal' parenting, in other words a lack thereof.
When the new leader of the provincial Liberals condems what the Federal Libarals have been doing in ottawa, ie,add scam, gun registry, Jean Chretien, and on, and on then we may be able to tate a look at what they have to offer
There hasn't been a good Liberal in Sask. since Ross Thatcher.
notice you can sign up for lieberal email. I think it behooves us to get right into the pipeline so we can comment here at SDA
You don't need to be on their e-mail list to know their goals... just your nearest channel.
Oh well, there is room for a free enterprise party in Saskatchewan - lord knows we don't have one now! No, the Sask Party is not a free enterprise party - wouldn't know it from their NDP policies.
I see the attached story failed to mention that the delegates passed a resolution calling for the privatization of retail liquor stores in Saskatchewan...now let's see you laugh at that! Haha!
Oh if only the Liberal party was really a libertarian party as they want to claim. It is hard to say you are a free enterprise party when your leader is going live off of the tit of the parties donations instead of working.
Maybe they should call it the "You've got to be kidding" party. Oh, sorry. That's already taken by the federal NDP (courtesy ptbc).
Or maybe the "Anything for a Buck" party.
Shake your heads guys. The brand is broken.
The problem with the Liberals prentending to be about free enterprise and personal freedom is that many of the same Liberals who now believe in small to no government after years of believing in a big governmen, are going to be come Monday going back to work and being paid by tax payers.
Lots of abuse lapped on Gordon Campbell from my fellow British Columbians.
I don't agree with everything he has done by a long shot but his party is certainly not akin to the Federal Liberals.
More to the point, if you don't vote for Campbell's Liberals then you're going to cast your vote with the NDP and Auntie Carole?
I think most British Columbians (that is, ones who pay taxes) are caught between a rock & a hard place.
Thoughts?
Robert W.,
I can't vote for anyone that forces their own, personal, new found "religion" on me and the majority of the voters in the province.
Fortunately, in this case, I won't have to compromise anything. The NDP will win in my riding. I can freely vote for neither of them.
Wow being the pure free enterprise party lasted less then a day. The Starphoenix reported that Bater certainly would keep some crowns... geez yeah thats pure free enterprise.
John:
"geez yeah thats pure free enterprise"
I'd call that trying desperately not to be irrelevant in Saskatchewan. Too many people work for the crowns for a party to be able to say they're going to privatize them all and be taken seriously here... Sad but true.
Not that the liberal party is likely to be taken seriously anyway, but I digress.
Some Crowns will not be privatized by any party. I can't see them touching the "Big Five" but there are 65 others that would be available to privatize. First term government..not yet.
I'm not sure what the cap is or the rules on campaigning and contributions. I am wondering if this splitting of liberal parties has anything to do with being able to collect more in contributions and spend more on ads. Timely I think, considering I suspect "O" will be sending some cash to Canada's liberals.
Separating from the Fed party won't help them but getting as far away from Ignatief as possible can't hurt.
If Bater turns out to be just another loser similar to all the previous Sask. Liberal Party leaders since Ross Thatcher and Davey Steuart ... no problem. However, if he comes across as a strong leader and continues to distance the provincial Liberals from the thieves in Ottawa, the Sask. Liberals may pick up some support ... and it won't be at the expense of the NDP. This is worrisome since the last thing Sask. needs is for the socialists to, once again, get their foot in the door. They could quite easily undo all the good that the Sask. Party has done for the province.
Further to this .... just heard Bater on a radio talk show. From his general tone, he appears to be somewhere to the right of the late John Wayne. Privatization of liquor stores? Examining crown corporations? Political suicide in Sask. Even Grant Devine in his heyday avoided these types of discussions.
I suppose that it's easy to make proclamations from the political wilderness but it's this kind of talk that will draw support from the Sask Party. And that's not a good thing for Saskatchewan.
Bater sounds like a guy who looked at the Saskatchewan party pre-Wall and is taking all their ideas. Not very exciting leadership just more of the same old ideas.
"This is worrisome since the last thing Sask. needs is for the socialists to, once again, get their foot in the door."
It's too late for that - the Wall Government is governing just like the NDP. It's like the socialists never lost the last provincial election.
Just to give DJ the facts about Sask Liberals: The Provincial Party (at that time under Lynda Haverstock) was part of a tri-party representation (along with the NDP and the discredited PCs) that went to Ottawa to OPPOSE the Federal Liberals gun control legislation. ie. The Saskatchewan Liberal Association has ALWAYS been opposed to the manner in which this legislation was passed. Speaking for myself as a Sask Liberal, I have always been embarrassed by the Liberal Party of Canada trying to gloss over the findings of the Gomery Inquiry and make it appear that Mr. Chretien had no knowledge of impropriety. As a person who believes in transparency and accountability, the RCMP and the Federal Government should have done a better job in prosecuting those Liberal insiders who handed out cash to their Federalist friends in Quebec and more charges should have been laid...even if it might have been difficult to get convictions. I agree that the Liberal regime under Chretien was corrupt as sin. No apologies here. (I might even see you at your doorstep during the next Provincial Election and we can talk about it there further.)
Does Prairie Liberalism mesh with the Progressive politics Bater ran on in the last election?
