Google Roadkill View

Tragedy has struck...

... In upstate New York, a street view car hit a baby deer on Five Points Road - and then recorded the whole thing on Google Maps. Nobody noticed until, well, someone noticed, prompting a Daily What blog post, floods of traffic, and then a sequence of five street-level pictures being removed from the site.

Only a filthy conservative would want to see such an event and Google isn't a filthy conservative now is it?

Oh no, they've killed Bambi!

My missus told me about this one... apparently, the street level car has been catching lots of neat stuff.

One shot has a skeevy-looking man carrying a gun, and another has some lady unable to make it to the next rest stop...

Usually I prefer to see deer drop dead in my telescopic sight. Less damage than hitting it with the truck. Body work is expensive y'know.

It's the whole...'when a tree falls in the forest' question...

just because it's recorded and viewed, that makes it horrible?
It's a frequent occurence in our neck of the woods...
Best solution to reduce roadkill of the little deers is to extend the hunting season.

Looks like a poor photoshop job to me. The lines on the road don't match up in the first picture and the road changes colour and there are no lines on the road in the second picture.

Tell you what Bluetech, I'm all in favor. I used to live in Upstate New Jork, the place is lousy with deer. I'd see one balled up under a car about once a week. A deer can mess up a car reeeeel good. Fold your average rice burner right back to the windshield.

Looks like it hurts, too. Sometimes they crawl out of the wreckage and die later in the woods. Owie. Better to get nailed with a 8mm Mauser than a Honda Pilot.

Off topic but: this poll needs help for freedom of speech: "Six University of Calgary students have been charged with trespassing. The charges stem from a pro-life demonstration in November."

any real news?

Don't these Bambi lovers know that when the police respond to a struck deer the first thing they do is SHOOT it? Just like they used to do to the horses at the racetrack.

On a side note, my personal experience is that the Bambi loving population rams their cars into these stupid animals at a much higher rate than the rest of us. (I think it indicates intelligence: the more deer you hit, the less of it you have.)

Also important to note: they are by FAR the deadliest animal in the country.

Must not let little Tommy see anything so upsetting!

In a slightly related sort of Bowdlerizing ...

The Democrats We Know .... and love...

Note that the relevant photos are being removed from the source!

Bluetech,

Is hitting an animal with your car ever a nice thing?

People seem to be missing the point. It's not a silly animal lover story, it's a weird techy story.

"any real news?"

You want news, go to Bourque. This a) isn't an aggregator, and b) I'm sort of busy with work.

Imagine the "DODGE DINGO"!!

The DINGO ayt your baymby! The DINGO ayt your baymby!

Kate that was very diplomatic of you. Much better than do something important and I'll write about it.

I swear that wasn't a deer that was smoked on the highway in that shot...it was from November 2007 somewhere in Saskatchewan and it sure looked a lot more like one of those blaze orange NDPers!

Well Yukon I was thinking the fact that the 'view' had to be removed was an indication that it was in fact a senstive issue with animal lovers.

Well, gee... it's google street view. Why would they want to show dead animals.

Why would they want to show some bum taking a dump in a shop doorway, Yukon? There's tons of those in there. Nobody said anything.

Frankly I think the whole Streetview thing is a fairly questionable endeavor, myself. Fine for businesses who want to advertise, not so great for the rest of us.

Bam da deer.

That's why I hunt there.

Deer don't have "babies"...doe deer bear fawns which have only a 1% survival rate in the wild. They die of Predation (being eaten alive), disease, starvation, and yes, some are killed on hiways.

"Baby deer"... pffffttt... tells me all I need to know about the infantile pillow biter who is wetting the bed over this petty tragedy.

Just another small dead animal.

A baby deer? If you hit a deer on Five Point Road, aren't you entitled to expect antlers?
