Well, Pakistan is one of the those countries that might fall apart. China, who has close relations with Pakistan, would like to see a more anti-West stance in that region. Especially after Kyrgyzstan removed NATO from their country due to pressure from Russia.

That picture is of the north western half of the Afghan/Paki border. Kandahar is quite a lot farther south and isn't on that pic but I'd imagine that the case is very much similar.

Pakistan?.Yup. Another Brit/U.N. f*&kup like Bosnia,Paliland,,anywhere in Africa. Nuke em all.

Seems to me, that rather than the full frontal assault, a covert and patient sniper contingent to systematically denude the Taliban of 'leadership' will get the desired result in the long run.

Feign assaults to draw fire, and have some well placed snipers to clean up locales one by one. This would minimize collateral damage to civilians and avoid the politically unsaleable 'nuke em all' option advocated by "Just what were you thinkin"?

Of course you will have to reduce their pocket of influence from both sides of North and South Waziristan ie from the Afghan and Pakistan side to make an effective go of it. Otherwise it just becomes an untenable 'rabbit in the hole' in and out of the 'tribal areas'.

Anything less than that will just become an uncoordinated continuation of the present lack of policy. As usual this is a lack of leadership at the top of the political class who may or may not have vested interests at play.

There is an upside to having your enemies collect in one place.

I am no expert on things military, but why am I left feeling that a squad of Canadian Princess Pat's with a couple of helicopters for cover, would have had this cleaned up (and the bad guys dead) over the course of an afternoon - with few if any casualties?

Pakistan ... huh!

Nofortunateson

My sediments exactly.
"The order was to retreat..." They seemed kind of timid. Tanks hurling back to their lines in fright...

With Pakistan being untouchable, there is no point of fighting in Afghanistan while the terrorists have a safe haven.

The Taliban are entrenched in Pakistan society thanks to the radical madrasses. I hope that Boy Wonder has figured out what Pakistan overrun with religious fanatics and given nuclear weapons is going to mean to us, India and the world.

Justthinkin: "Pakistan?.Yup. Another Brit/U.N. f*&kup like Bosnia,Paliland,,anywhere in Africa"
All these trouble spots seem to have one thing in common. Hell throw in Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechnya, Lebanon, Syria, etc. Appeasement brought us to this stage. If the Brits, or as Nofurtunateson said, Canucks had the equipment we just saw attempting to move 1 km forward, well what do you think the result would have been? Tanks! Running away from small arms fire & RPGs! So was this an exercise for the media, reluctance to kill co-religionists or sheer cowardice?

Hans @7:23 By George, I think he's got it!
But I've yet to figure out how to infuse precise diction and a British accent on blogs.

Resistance est futile.
Vous sera assimile.......so much for Quebec...

Yeah the Pakistani army din't project much of a "Band of Brothers" image....more like WW2 Italians...

I have a question. Pakistan has it's own religion Hindu etc. How does the Muslim Taliban have any influence then ? Thanks

jeeezzzz.

Arnie: Pakistan almost completely Muslim. The Hindu population got driven out a long time ago.

Old white guy! WELL SAID. Cheers;

Sheesh, We stopped using those old M36 grenades back in 1979, threw the last batch of them. Also no coordination between the tanks and the Infantry. this means the tanks are subject to ambushes, the infantry and the tanks should have been working closely together. Plus the Pak generals should know that as soon as orders are given, they will be leaked to the Taliban. meaning the Taliban already know which routes the army will use and prepare ambushes. They need to have a backup plan to ambush the ambushers. Artillery strikes on likely ambush sites would also be in order.

Fist off, this is the nation that that pig Obama wants to bomb into submission!

Second, if these "soldiers" are our allies, then only God can save us.

Thirdly, I believe they're doing the best they can, but I rather think 32 (Ovamboland) Battalion, plus Koevoet and the Selous Scouts will have cleaned up the Tali-wankers in about a month.

Be a lot of unhappy little neo-libs in Toronto coffee-shops whining into their lattes though...
