As the mob did not disperse, on the third floor, a worker in the Hillel decided that it was best to lock the door of the Hillel, and only let the Jewish students inside until the crowd thinned out, just to be on the safe side. Not thinking that anything was going to happen, the students in the Hillel lounge went about there typical business, sitting around and doing school work. Ten minutes passed, and before anyone realized what was happening, the mob that was outside the press conference on the third floor was outside the Hillel office on the fourth floor. The students outside of the Hillel were shouting louder their anti-Israel slogans and banging on the floor and walls so hard that the lights outside the Hillel were flickering. As the students in Hillel began to grow uneasy and the feeling of being safe was diminishing, York security was called in to try and help break up the crowd but as any student who has been to York knows, the campus security is severely limited on the force that they can use and they were unable to break up the crowd. And, as a result we were encouraged by Hillel staff to call the Toronto Police to help disperse the crowd. Some students who had the local non-emergency number called that one but as panic was setting in with other students some called 911 as they were truly scared for their safety.
Just as Toronto Police were arriving on campus, one pro-Palestinian student stood at the glass door of the Hillel, visible to the students in the Hillel, with his Kaffeiyah scarf pulled all the way up to his eyes. This is a tactic used by terrorist organizations such as Hamas and al-Qaeda to intimidate others, and quite frankly I was completely taken off-guard by the sight of this student and at that point fear began to trickle into me as well. This is something that goes beyond free speech and being anti-Israel and is tantamount to racism and discrimination. As the police arrived they stated that in a situation like this there is nothing they can do as they did not feel that there was an actual threat of violence, however, it was their belief that the possibility remained. They then told us that because they could not stand watch at the door all night, that it was highly recommended that we vacate the lounge immediately and they would assist us with safe passage through the crowd so as to prevent anything from occurring. And as 20 Jewish student walked single file through this unruly mob, they were pointing, laughing and chanting that we were "Racists on Campus!"

1. shut down the Hillel center (apologies to any Jews if I don't get the terminology correct)
2. prevent the airing of any pro-Israel opinion on campus
3. eventually impose some form of Islamic law on the campus, which will involve
4. the expulsion of all Jews and, in fact, all non-Muslims from the campus

I had a buddy back in the mid-eighties who attended UCT. There was an odious commie-stalinist presence on campus, engaged in intimidation, and this buddy joined a reactionary group. This group mobilised a small band of supporters and armed themselves with baseball bats and dustbin lids, and when on "patrol" around campus.
Needless to say the intimidation stopped in pretty short order. That was the great thing about conscription - many students were also Army guys, so they weren't quite so easy to push around. Of course a few jaws and arms had to get broken, but the commies buggered off after that.
Set "the Communist cause" back a good few years. UCT became a much nicer place after that.

With regard to the anti-Semitic thugs at York, there's only one thing to do: kick the Jews off campus. Get them out of sight. Put them somewhere else. I don't want to see them. It's not about them, it's about the sort of reactions they inevitably draw. Those potential reactions risk disrupting other students' right to an education.
I have nothing against Jews, it's a question of *where* they're appropriate. They're not appropriate on a university campus. I'm glad to hear that the Toronto Police escorted them out before the situation got out of hand.

The inaction by the police is very troubling. 'Same thing happened when Hezbollah and Hamas flags were being waved a month ago at the corner of Bloor Street and Avenue Road and hateful threats were being made against Jewish counter-protesters: Nothing. The police did nothing.
I asked a policeman, who was stationed at a corner in my neighbourhood on Sunday, what was up. Some anti-Jewish Jewish group was to stage a protest outside a Jewish community centre but nothing much happened. When I asked why the police hadn't done anything when Hezbollah and Hamas were marching a few weeks before, he basically said they weren't able to do anything, with a shrug.
When I responded that our society was going to hell in a handbasket, he readily agreed, but alluded to the fact that he was glad he had a job.
So, now it appears that like just about every other unionized "profession," the police are more concerned about their salaries and benefits than in protecting the public against thugs in groups that are outlawed in Canada.
As for Jonathan Kay's observations that the police didn't "feel that there was an actual threat of violence," what were they talking about? First, the police "feel" there's no violence (well, there isn't any against THEM) and then, they say they'll escort the Jewish students out of the building because there might be violence. This is talking out of both sides of their mouth and, essentially, punishing the innocent party which has to leave the building, while allowing the guilty party to stick around.
Isn't there something terribly wrong with this picture? 'Seems to me that anarchy -- or worse, hooliganism -- reigns. Who're ya gonnna call these days?

I recently read a fascinating book "What We Knew". It's an oral history of Germans and Jews from the 1930s to the end of WWII. The prevalent view amongst the Jews and the moderates regarding the Nazis prior to the Kristallnacht was pretty much "Ignore them and they'll go away." As we all know, they most certainly did not go away. Ignoring them and tolerating their thuggery emboldened them and at the same time intimidated the average person into seeing resistance to the Nazis as being completely futile.
This passivity on the part of the authorities, whether at the University or more ominously on the part of the police is, or should be, hugely concerning. No doubt the "See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" approach foisted onto Ontario Police by the Caledonia travesty is infecting the municipal police forces as well. That bodes ill for peaceful citizens of every denomination, not just the Jewish canaries in the coal mine.

The Jewish community has been in Canada since its beginning. They helped build this Nation as the Chinese did as well . Now they are shunted aside for a group who’s only aim is the destruction of any religion, democracy or economic system that conflicts with this fake Religion for war.
The followers of the false Prophet only want rivers of blood with booty. At heart there still desert bandits with its creed of blood letting. As their Law with its 7nth century penalties completely attest to. The Koran being the best evidence of this mad group who would put the world under slavery.
As for our Police. The profession has such a bad name in Edmonton , that for years now including this down turn. No one applies except thugs. No matter how many billboards or radio plugs for hireling. Individuals who have any principles left, avoid these jobs now like a plague. Where at one time rightly this was a prestigious job with respect from the public. It has now degenerated into just another gang only run by the City.
Young people sense this more readily. At one time we had one of the best forces in Canada. Now its packed with shiftless city run tax collectors. Who care more about tickets than people, or their safety. With exceptions of course.

And, if you really think about it if it were Jewish kids doing this it would be so out of character and outrageous that it would be headlined on Drudge and across the MSM. What is it that liberal Jews are not getting about how toxic liberalism is to them? If I was a Jewish parent I'd be very concerned about my kid's safety on a college campus anymore. Why do you keep voting more Dems/liberals into office when their policies are directly responsible for making you less safe, and that applies to here, France, Israel, anywhere? I don't get it.

penny, I agree. It's as if many Jews have a death wish. Here, in Canada, far too many still vote Liberal and even NDP. The Liberals and NDP do NOT stand with Israel and have been the prime movers for the saturation of Canada with illiberal immigrants who are ungrateful and provocative parasites.
