Blog Notes

Blogging the past couple of days has taken a back seat to a junior dragster paint job. Photos when I get them - I left it in the paint booth at 11 pm last night ready for clear. After 14 straight hours standing on concrete yesterday (minus one 10 minute lunch break), today's going to be a slow one too, while I rest up and tend to some other work.

Tomorrow we hit the road for the Home of Hope, City of The Pretty, Metropolis of Changeopolis - the Chicago that brought you Blago! OK,. I'll stop now. We have five days of dog shows, plus two days driving time each way. I should have net access in the evenings, but for the most part I'll be leaving the joint in the hands of the trusty guest bloggers. Please help make their job easier - respect the rules, and ignore any trolling drive-bys.

Thanks for your patience - and wish us luck.

Good Luck and Stay safe, Kate.

Got you beat, Kate- I logged fifteen straight hours standing on concrete on Thursday due to malfunctioning equipment... no break, other than to grab a few quick handfuls of food and check my email, so I can appreciate that.

Looking forward to the pix.

Good luck Kate, stay safe and support the US economy by stocking up on bargains.

Standing on concrete that long is brutal on the back. That said I can't wait to see the pics of the Jr. dragster as it must look great.

Good luck, and I also think that concrete should be made softer, and after asking a liberal and ndpeer I found out if the coalition of Jack and Jill and the Pale of Stefon had only siezed power, that was their first order of business, softer, kinder gentler concrete! Not that hard Steven Arrrrper concrete anymore.

Bon voyage Kate. Enjoy "da Loop."

Separatists Win? Re: Battle on the Plains of Abraham? Oh really? What say the rest of us silent (no more) Canadians??

The following is a re-post of piece-meal items sent out earlier to At Home in Hespeler. It is an open idea. Feel free to circulate. Feel free to act on, act out, “copy” and broadcast as widely and extensively as possible.

Hope you can take the Obie Pilgrimage Tour: The Rezko/Obama home site, Parc Grove Apartments, Trinity Church... An insightful and educational adventure. The shroud of Turin has nothing on the shroud around city hall.

Be successful in your business and enjoy the down time.

I would suggest welding matts if at all practical. A few of them strategically placed can make a world of difference.

Yes, the feeding of the Trolls by some regulars here lately - disgusting, to say the least.

Kate is more than patient, more than she should be, IMO. Others blog owners have a more strict policy - for both Trolls and Regulars; 'Shoot To Kill'

Good luck, Kate. Kick some butt in Chicago!

Good luck Kate. Take care and drive safe.

Princess Auto has thick rubber mats that definitely take some of the pain out of cement and iron (used them a lot swinging the brake handle on the rigs).

I left the appropriate mea culpa elsewhere. My bad.

Hey, Kate. Good luck. I'll say a prayer for the travellers.

I'm going to be in Chicago/Obamaland for a few days too. If I see you, I'll say hi. I think I'd recognize you; if I see someone looking like Kate McMillan with a schnauzer, I'll definitely know it's you!

Go well the road.

"I would suggest welding matts"

kate... standing around on cold, unyielding concrete for any
length of time is a recognised industrial hazard.

at my last job in the big city, the folks in the warehouse working
on the packing line had special half-inch thick rubber mats to
stand on.

maybe grab up an industrial supply catalogue and check 'em out.
you don't wanna end up with bad feet or iffy knees down
the road.

1) Concrete floors. sysk's welding mat idea is good. Also good and cheap are those big rubber livestock mats. They are nice to walk on, strong enough for cattle to beat the hell out of, and you can move them to clean underneath. Cleaning is major in a paint shop. Also solvent proof, they are pretty much a big flat car tire. Tie a rope on there and drag it around.

2) Internet access on the road. Acer Aspire One costs about $350 CDN, runs Red Hat Linux or Mickeysoft XP, and has 802.11 G wireless built in. It rocks on the road. My Eee PC 4G is just a little too small in the keyboard to be great for blogging, the Acer is dandy. Has a 100gb hard drive too, stick a few movies and songs on there. Small enough to stick in a cargo pocket.

McDonalds has free wireless. Pull in for a nibble, post your blog while you stretch and then flee. Awesome.

3) Chicago. Stay out of Gary Indiana, its nasssty there. Other than that I know nothing. I've been through Chi-town like twelve times and never lifted off the gas until I was out of there. Rockford Il in a nice place to stay, we used to crash there and then make it to Ontario in one shot the next day.

Have lots of doggy fun!

Mein gott! 2 days travel each way! In a CAR! Can the environment withstand the load you're about to place on it? Hope you've purchased carbon credits. ;-)

Seriously, from one dog lover to another, g/l and stay safe.

Synchro, ya I think Princess Auto does have the livestock mats. So do all the farm stores. Easy to get, IF you don't live in 416 area code. ~:D

I'm building a shop right now, concrete floor as usual, so I'll be getting some of those big cow mats myself. Right now all I've got is a hole in the ground with gravel in it and a big pile of steel in the driveway, but its going to be AWESOME. No more standing in a snowbank changing spark plugs, no more busting a gut trying to turn over a 4x8 sheet of farticle board under a 7'6" ceiling.

Just doing my part to keep the economy rolling.

I recall an incident with "Health and Safety"....
The "inspector", who ignored the competition's practice of painting near welders, without a booth...obtusely ordered the rubber mats at our welding tables removed because they were a fire hazard....

Good luck,Kate and pups.Oh.Did you buy some Goracle credits for the trip? :)

So long, Kate... don't worry, Syncro & Company will take REAL good care of things while you're gone.

They'll keep those "troofers" out! (If they can stay sober, that is! LOL!)

;-)

Congrants on your new shop. Once it's finished I suggest you stay away from Princess Auto unless you have deep pockets.

I way over spend there every time.....Then again there's no such thing as too many tools literally speaking. From the figurative perspective...tools abound;)

Looking forward to some pic's of the dragster. I spent 20 yrs restoring and painting cars and can really relate to the hours on concrete. But the results! well that is the payoff!!

Dragsterrrrrrrrrrr.......1978, Cayuga speedway, 70 Chevelle SS, with a 454..........good times!

Synchro, too late for me with Princess Auto. I'm friggin' HOOKED. Kate's handy to the Saskatoon one, she can go in there and laugh at the el-cheapo spray guns.

I made the mistake of going in to Lowes in Stoney Creek yesterday, they have a -really- nice tool section, a lot more selection than Home Depot for sure. This may have been a bad thing.

Since kingstonlad mentioned it, I can hear Cayuga Speedway from my house in the summer time. These days all I hear is ice cracking in the Grand River. Flooded twice now this winter, and apparently they have a bloody great ice breaker in lake Erie at the mouth of the Grand, breaking up a mega ice damn. They've been blowing up the ice at the Dunville dam with explosives I hear. Fun stuff.

I am adding much gravel to my shop foundation. ~:D

Take care driving. I hear its a mess all the way to Ill.

Kate

good luck with the pooches, and safe drive, and waiting for pix of dragster and pooch show:-))))

phantom

6inch rebared floor, and a high ceiling, I know were there is a cheap drive on hoist, will take 350 fords:-))))

Change is as good as a rest they say
bon chance!!!!!!

Oops... almost forgot the well-wishings of good luck...

May the best doggie(s) win... Kate's!

You and dog(s) gone, Kate? But not for long (thank goodness). Good Luck!

the BIGOwe is in Chicago for a few days to contemplate the destruction of the American economy. Say hi for me, Kate.

Someone once told me he wore "broom ball shoes" for standing on concrete for long periods. Said they work. Do they still play broom ball in Sask?
