Good evening, welcome to the Wednesday edition of Late Night Radio. In tonight’s musical selection the Reverend F.W. McGee and Arizona Dranes march, on everyone’s behalf, and with exemplary vigor and resolve, through the valley of the shadow. It’s an unusual duet in that the two seem almost to be engaged in a musical dispute with each loudly insisting on his/her own quite different interpretation of the song; what quickly becomes clear is that they are fellow soldiers simply advancing in common cause from two strong flanks.
Here then without further ado, a musical singularity and a great performance from 1930: Arizona Dranes and Rev. F.W. McGee singing Fifty Miles Of Elbow Room.
The thread is open for your Reader Tips.

Goldstein does it again. A great column simply because he nails his peers in the CP for thier laziness and illiteracy.
Goldstein is one of the few columnists to criticise the media for all their silliness on a regular basis.
Oh, and he nails Ahenikew also.

For those of you who may, like me, have a hard time parsing lyrics, here
for the record are the lyrics to Fifty Miles Of Elbow Room per EBD above:
Thanks, EBD, that’s a great singin’ tune.
This evening I was asked by a friend of mine, a public school teacher, why I would possibly have fiscal conservative political views. “After all”, he added, “you’re not extremely rich, so why do you have the views you do?”
I know my reasons. What are yours?
Robert W.: Tell the fool that you hold your views because you want everybody to have the chance to get rich.
Oh, and that you believe in freedom and justice.
nv53: Excellent points!
Devil’s advocate view with my Jack Layton brain implants embedded: “Freedom and justice? How you can you say such things?! If you believe in human rights and social justice then you would never vote for a conservative party!”
Your response to the Video Professor?
I have the RIGHT to be as UNcomfortable, or as comfortable as my work ethic allows. Anything more I am FREE to give to any CHURCH I desire.
Social justice was/is the prevail of Churches. Support THEM, as you see fit.
Seen any starving priests/reverends/imams lately?
Canada’s banking system was a Harper-Kudlow discussion point that’s grown legs. Bloomberg has added Obama to the party:
“Obama in Canada Finds World’s Best Financial System”
We don’t really have “human rights”, as the term is currently used, we have individual rights.
There is no such thing as “social justice”, there is only justice.
Both terms are destructive “anti-concepts” used to confuse the uninitiated. They sound vaguely appealing but they (and their advocates) are extremely dangerous.
There was a column by loony-left crackpot Linda McQuaig in the Toronto Star on Tuesday in which she again bites the hand that feeds her by claiming that the global economic meltdown and climate change were both products of “the unregulated capitalism of recent years”.
A Star column of Feb. 14 noted that there are 500,000 regulations on the books in Ontario. Undoubtedly there are many more in other provinces, the federal government, other nations, and American states. So explain again why we don’t have enough regulations?
From what I’ve read, the economic meltdown started because American regulators told their federal mortgage corporations to make loans to people who couldn’t keep them up. Government intervention, not the lack thereof, is to blame, as it always is.
It’s a disgrace to journalism that the Star allows lies like McQuaig writes in her column to be published. But it has a long history of doing the same in its editorials, such as pretending that California’s energy woes circa 2000 were caused by “deregulation” when that market was still heavily regulated. Or that the exclusion of Jewish, Muslim and other religious schools from tax funding is “inclusive”. And so on.
Hi All,
Yeah, I love those sneaky lefty buzzwords…
“working families”,
“anti-choice”,
“climate change deniers”,
Hey, I’m surrounded by Layton’s finest down here in SW Ontario. I get the same ‘how could you be a conservative’ questions all the time.
Best I’ve come up with is simply freedom.
They get it when I point to McGuinty’s pointless bans.
And when the bills come in on giant, happy-faced socialist programs.
You know, they’re often shocked at the level of taxes taken from paychecks, but never stop asking for more ‘free’ health care, cheaper tuition, child care for all…etc.
I simply point to all the things they love about socialism, and make it clear to them that I shouldn’t have to pay for all of the bad choices of others in society. That infringes on my freedom.
You know, I think low blood pressure is an essential human right. The UN said so…
And my rights are infringed upon when my pockets are always empty for paying for all kinds of bullcrap I don’t agree with. And don’t get me started on the dollars wasted just in administering these ‘essential’ services.
Sorry, got a bit carried away.
Freedom. And,I guess the pursuit of it. That’s what makes this modest living conservative so.

Great stuff, guys! Thanks.
nv53: Many U.S. newspapers are going broke. It likely won’t be too long until the TorStar goes belly-up too. That’ll be “social justice” like McQuaig has never seen before in her highly subsidized life!

“4,000 MUSLIM BRITS JOIN TALIBAN”
(dailystar.co.uk)
THOUSANDS of British-born Muslims have joined the Taliban in Afghanistan.
UK troops say they are facing a mini civil war as more Brits head out to fight for the enemy.
Senior officers said British-born Muslims from the West Midlands and Yorkshire have travelled to Helmand province and other parts of southern Afghanistan.
Interception of Taliban communications has revealed the sound of jihadists speaking with West Midlands accents.
……………….
Mini civil war? No, it’s high treason. But, lets up the Muslim immigration quota anyhow. Madness.
Islamophobia vs. Hypocricy: A great post:
The Muslim oversensitivity to any perceived insult is in directly
inverse proportion to how much hate Muslims themselves are willing to display for others.
If you go by Muslim standards, removing a man wearing a t-shirt with Arabic words off a plane is an unacceptable display of Islamophobia, but banning an Israeli tennis player from Dubai is completely legitimate. Drawing cartoons of Mohammed as a terrorist is not acceptable, but calling for the deaths of the cartoonists is. Writing a book parodying Islam is unacceptable, but murdering the book’s translators around the world is reasonable.
Israeli checkpoints on the Gaza border are unacceptable examples of apartheid, but Saudi Arabia barring all non-Muslims from entering the city of Mecca or from holding Saudi citizenship– is their right.
A protest against Hamas and Al Queda that desecrates their flags, which have verses from the Koran on them, is unacceptable offensive to Muslims– but Muslim student associations waving those same flags is something that no one may question.
A Muslim “refugee” who is arrested for illegally entering a European country is being imprisoned solely out of “Islamophobia”, as are the terrorists held in Guantanamo Bay– but Westerners who enter a Muslim country lose all rights and may be imprisoned, tortured and flogged on the flimsiest of allegations from a Muslim.
Western countries expecting that a Muslim woman remove her Hijab for an ID photo is Islamophobia. However Muslim countries have the right to demand that even the House Speaker and First Lady cover up their hair when visiting a Muslim country.

My reply to the teacher friend would be ‘Why do you teach?’ Why not tell the students on the first day they all get A’s. Some kids will do the work and some kids won’t but they are all the same so the dumbest can be his boss. Fiscal conservatism works the same way only better. Remove the financial reward and you remove the motivation.
(WaPo warning) Henry A. Kissinger, A Strategy for Afghanistan
Heretofore, America has pursued traditional anti-insurgency tactics: to create a central government, help it extend its authority over the entire country and, in the process, bring about a modern bureaucratic and democratic society.
That strategy cannot succeed in Afghanistan — especially not as an essentially solitary effort. The country is too large, the territory too forbidding, the ethnic composition too varied, the population too heavily armed. No foreign conqueror has ever succeeded in occupying Afghanistan. Even attempts to establish centralized Afghan control have rarely succeeded and then not for long. Afghans seem to define their country in terms of a common dedication to independence but not to unitary or centralized self-government…

“Colby Cosh: Watching boomers in turmoil is worth a recession
With global markets tanking and unemployment soaring, Canadians are pinching their pennies. But as National Post contributors explain in a week-long series, economic doom and gloom is also a chance for change.
Asked to pronounce on “The Virtues of Austerity,” I eventually decided to let my id run amok and take over the column for a day. Let’s face it: The virtues of austerity are the kind we generally recommend solely unto others. We all think ourselves much too well acquainted with them.
For the children of the Baby Boomers, there is a special delight in watching the world economy shake itself to pieces like a two-dollar pram at this particular moment. Our elders, who bought prosperity and nice pensions at our expense and pulled the ripcords on their “Freedom 55” parachutes without leaving any behind in the passenger cabin, are getting it in the neck just when they thought a secure old age, with money for travel and expensive pastimes, was a safe bet. I’m willing to watch my meagre savings suffer from market turmoil in exchange for contemplating the dilemma of those who are now between 55 and 65.
These are people who started their working lives at a time when labour unions were strong, taxpayers outnumbered retirees nearly 10 to one, housing was as cheap as borscht and the basic personal exemption covered most of a living wage. They congratulated themselves on building an elaborate “social safety net” at the expense of their children.”

Big Brother Obama Supporters On the Internet Are Watching You
While the Obama-led Democrats control the future of the United States of America, the grassroots on the Internet (The Obama Forum) are in the process of turning in “enemies of Obama”, including the parents of children who are Obama supporters.
Obama supporting children have actually posted their parents’ names and addresses on the Obama Forum. (here).
In all of its searches, Canada Free Press (CFP) has found no comment from any official in the Obama administration repudiating the Forum.
The Obamaforum.com instructs people to “Report Anti-Obama Sentiment By Your Coworkers and Peers (here) and more.
All mainstreet Americans can do is hope that the secret service who visited the Oklahoma city motorist, tooling around town with the “abort Obama sign” on his car, does not log onto the Forum.
“The following is not for those who are frightened easily or for those with a weak stomach,” a CFP tipster wrote.
You can let Obama know how his stimulus bill is helping you at the website, whose name was a number, according to Vice President Joe Biden on Tuesday night. The veep, of course, was really talking about: Recovery.gov- Share your experience
But Obamameisters in darker corners have a thread just for what to do with their perceived enemies:
From the Obama Forum: Ban websites with the help of officials (Italics CFP’s).
To get the ball rolling here are some of the sites:”
“Here they are keeping a list and checking it twice…”Ok, if you see a car with a bumper sticker or anything about freedom or liberty or hatred for taxes or one of those “Nobamba” bumper stickers or anything that is against the government or Obama, do what you can to mark down the license plate number. Maybe the make and model of the car, I bet we might be able to get a statistical probability based on make and model to just go after all of a certain type of car. The government will have need for such a list pretty soon.”

Maz2, I’m having a difficult time discerning whether that site with the forum is a parody or not. If it’s legit and the people there actually believe what they’re writing, well … be very afraid. No, actually, afraid isn’t the word for what we need. Vigilance and wariness are what we need.

Pol Pot Sister-in-Law Pleads for Mercy in ‘Killing Fields’ Court
Pol Pot’s 76-year-old sister-in-law, Ieng Thirith, pleaded with a Cambodia court to grant her mercy and not find her guilty of contributing to the deaths of the at least the 1.7 million who perished in that country’s “killing fields.”
The Khmer Rouge ruled Cambodia from 1975 to 1979, and, under Pol Pot, a Marxist leader, and the support of China, the Khmer Rouge forced millions of people to work on communal farms, and ultimately contributed to families dying of starvation, overwork and disease — not to mention execution. Nearly all of Cambodia’s lawyers, doctors, artists and intellectuals were killed. Most of the murders occurred in the nation’s rural and country areas, known as the killing fields, which later became the basis for the Oscar-award winning 1984 movie by the same name.
Reuters reports that Thirith’s husband has been charged with war crimes, but Thirith — then the movement’s social minister — says she was only working on humanitarian issues after capital city Phnom Penh fell in 1975.
“I don’t know why a good person like me has been accused of such crimes. I have suffered a great deal,” she said during a bail hearing. “I have been wrongly accused.” She continued, “We worked very hard at the pharmaceutical factories. There were four factories and we had two Chinese experts helping us.”
The trial of the Khmer Rouge’s chief torturer, Kaing Guek Eav, also known as Duch, began last week. Many descendants of the regime’s victims have waited 30 years for these trials, hoping to see the perpetrators of the genocide finally brought to justice. And the Toronto Star definitely approves of the judicial moves.”
