  1. Of course, as they ARE different words, “estimable” and “inestimable” can’t be contranyms.
However, there are some similar pairs of words, where both the root word and the root word with a prefix, that should produce an opposite meaning, actually mean the same. I can’t think of one, but perhaps someone else could. I don’t know what this phenomenon’s called or I’d look it up!
(My husband has given me one, I think. I didn’t believe him, but the dictionary seems to confirm what he said: ravel [out] and unravel both mean “disentangle”.)

  2. “singing songs to freedom.”

    “THE REVOLUTION WAS
    by Garet Garrett
    1938
There are those who still think they are holding the pass against a revolution that may be coming up the road. But they are gazing in the wrong direction. The revolution is behind them. It went by in the Night of Depression, singing songs to freedom.”
“It took off from a revolutionary base. The design was European. Regarded from the point of view of revolutionary technic it made perfect sense. Its meaning was revolutionary and it had no other. For what it meant to do it was from the beginning consistent in principle, resourceful, intelligent, masterly in workmanship, and it made not one mistake.
The test came in the first one hundred days.”

  3. Truth be told Lookout, in classic liberalism is the seeds of its own destruction. That we now can see the fruit of the poison tree doesn’t mean that the root of the poison tree is equally as bad. Secular Humanism and classic liberalism are one and the same.
What is missing in these philosophies is the grounding in permanence that is found in Judeao/ Christianity. Once permanence is removed everything set on quick sand and shall surely sink. (On Christ the Solid Rock I stand all other ground is sinking sand). Once the highest authority becomes man and man’s philosophy anything is changeable and maleable, even morality. Over and over again I am struck by the wisdom of an ancient warrior by the name of Joshua. “Choose the God you will serve today, be it the God of your father or the gods of the people in the land or the people beyond the sea. As for me and my household we shall serve Yahweh.” Living in the society we live in we often fail to grasp what it means but in choosing our God we choose the form of our society. Want a society that slaughters its unborn, encourages drug addiction, disrespect for elders/parents bow at the altar of Humanistic Liberalism. Want a society where the strong man makes the rules? Bow before the altar of Allah. Want a society that the individual is accountable to his society, the greatest shall be the least and the leader is servant? Bow before the altar of Yahweh. As Joshua said “Choose this day”.

LOGAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan (AP) – Close to 3,000 American soldiers who recently arrived in Afghanistan to secure two violent provinces near Kabul have begun operations in the field and already are seeing combat, the unit’s spokesman said Monday.
The new troops are the first wave of a surge of reinforcements expected this year after President Barack Obama put an increased focus on Afghanistan. U.S. commanders are contemplating sending up to 30,000 additional soldiers to bolster the 33,000 already in Afghanistan.”

Here’s my contribution to the petition…
“I wonder how brave you’d be if the subject of your petition were against the Zionist threat against North America… with attack-dog agencies like the JDL floating around, your ass would be cooked in no time, son!
Easy to target less-influential and powerful groups, isn’t it? Your gutless petition is characteristic of Conservative thought in Canada, and I won’t be sucked in by elitist rhetoric like you have.
Take your petition and shove it up your ass!”

  6. Highway”man”, could you use some help with anger management?
If ANY thinking person in this world today can read the speech Wilders was to deliver in Briton and say he should be silenced, they’re extremely out of touch with reality.
Freedom of speech is a serious part of the equation. According to the loopy Left, politically corectoids, we are to be kept in the dark and unprepared for what’s happening around us. We know there’s an elephant in the room and we are told to ignore it, it will not trample us.
So, it appears in the minds of the outer space dwellers of the Left, an assumed threat to public policy trumps the safety of a nation and all the developed democracies in the developed world.
The likes of you, Mr Highwayman are really on a track to end times.
We live in a democracy and if e don’t fight for our rights, we will lose them. We can have petitions if we wish, we don’t have to shove them up our asses either, you ignorant SOB.

  7. You know 20% of the people think Elvis is alive and swimming with dolphins in Mexico. I swear I saw him one day while deep sea fishing. It turned out to be a fat porpoise. What about the 20% of people who don’t believe the USA put a man on the moon? What about the 20% who belive George Bush blew up the twin towers? Do you really believe these people have any concept about what is true as opposed to b.s. To think, that these people vote. No wonder Canada and the USA is on a one way trip to hell….

  8. Iggy say, mea Iggy.
Mea from MSM doesn’t mention blogs.
Iggy is a lickspittle flatulent Liberal flatterist.
But, lookee at this: “The Liberal leader is a Harvard alumnus, as is the president, and counts three members of Obama’s senior staff as friends.”
More >>> Iggy say, “to make a pitch to voters in Canada’s “new economic centre.”
    Iggy has been reading SDA.
    Iggy doesn’t even H/T SDA.

  9. Geert Wilders and the Fight for Europe
Does defending Western values constitute “inciting hatred”?
    By Bat Yeor
Britain has just witnessed the spectacle of a duly elected parliamentarian from another EU country, Geert Wilders of the Netherlands, being denied entry to the country because he constituted “a threat to public policy.” Wilders, after being detained briefly at Heathrow, was sent back to Holland — where he has further legal troubles. Three weeks earlier, a Dutch appeals court had ordered prosecutors to begin criminal proceedings against Wilders for “inciting hatred and discrimination” and “insulting Muslim worshippers” through his public statements and his 2008 film, Fitna. The order to proceed with the criminal prosecution resulted from pressure put on European states and on the UN Human Rights Council by the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC). The OIC’s aim is to punish and suppress any alleged Islamophobia, around the world but particularly in Europe, and it has been a leader in creating the conditions that made the U.K.’s Wilders ban possible.
The OIC is one of the largest intergovernmental organizations in the world. It encompasses 56 Muslim states plus the Palestinian Authority. Spread over four continents, it claims to speak in the name of the ummah (the universal Muslim community), which numbers about 1.3 billion. The OIC’s mission is to unite all Muslims worldwide by rooting them in the Koran and the Sunnah — the core of traditional Islamic civilization and values. It aims at strengthening solidarity and cooperation among all its members, in order to protect the interests of Muslims everywhere and to galvanize the ummah into a unified body.

  10. This from the highwayman(Sean) a couple of days ago after I posted that he was likely a ‘truther’. ==================================================Most of the comments are just the sane trying to reach the insane. An oxymoron. But one comment does justify a reply. I am not what you would call a truther. But I would like an explanation as to the wee tiny whole in the pentagon where an airplane was supposed to have hit it. And how building 7 toppled exactly the same way as the twin towers when it wasn’t even hit, and barely was on fire. Curious, isn’t it?

    “Glitch in Car Smoking Ban
Questions are being raised about the new law in Ontario that bans anyone from smoking in a vehicle with children under 16 inside.
A 20-year-old Port Home man was given a ticket for smoking in a car with a 15-year-old girl as one of his passengers. While Tory Ashton was waiting for his $155 ticket, the girl got out of the car and legally lit up a cigarette.
Port Hope MPP, Lou Rinbaldi, says this is a glitch in the law that should be examined.
The anti-smoking law took effect in January. It’s designed to protect children from highly concentrated tobacco smoke inside vehicles.”

  12. Amen, Joe (@ 2:55 p.m.)!
On this Family Day, which gets lip service from our governments, whose policies are busy wrecking the family, Melanie Phillips has a fine (sad, but true) article, “Reaping the Whirwind”, about sexual license and the havoc it’s wreaking in the UK. (Ditto elsewhere.) An excerpt:
“ . . . This attitude was accompanied by a deliberate attempt to destroy the notion of respectability. Not only are official blind eyes turned to breaches of the legal age of consent, but sex education actually targets teenagers and underage children with a direct attack on society’s fundamental values by promoting a libertarian agenda.
“So sex education teaching manuals set out the full range of sexual positions, partnering and perversions. Much of it looks like propaganda for sexual licence; some of it is so exploitative it verges on the predatory.
“Indeed, it is not so much education as indoctrination into ideas underlying the global family planning movement. The International Planned Parenthood Federation promotes sexual pleasure as a ‘valid sexual and reproductive health need for all young people’ – defined as aged ten to 24.
“And the first director of the World Health Organisation, Dr Brock Chisholm, believed the barrier to civilised life was the notion of right and wrong, and wanted children to be freed from such prejudices through introducing sex education from the age of nine.
“Many of our sex education programmes — some aimed at children even younger than nine — stem directly from these destructive and nihilistic ideas. Far from merely aiming to reduce teenage pregnancy rates, they are an attempt to RESTRUCTURE FAMILY LIFE AROUND A SEXUAL FREE-FOR-ALL. [emphasis mine]
“The key to it all is the marginalisation and exclusion of parental control. So underage children are provided not just with contraceptives but abortion counselling without their parents’ knowledge.”
