As I noted in December - accounts of western governments (from the local to the federal) kneecapping the very infrastructure upon which modern metropolitan life depends - including reliable electricity, food production, and the transport of essential goods - are so routine now, one can hardly keep track;
Dozens, and potentially hundreds, of gas stations around California are choosing to shut down rather than comply with a state mandate that would require owners to purchase new equipment to reduce vapor emissions at the pump.
The requirement, known as Phase II in the state's Enhanced Vapor Recovery Program, is set to go into effect in April. It requires gas station owners to individually purchase tens of thousands of dollars of equipment designed to prevent harmful vapors from escaping into the air when gasoline is pumped.
But smaller retailers say that the requirement puts an unfair burden on businesses that don't sell enough gasoline to offset the extra cost - and that don't contribute much to the problem in the first place.

There is a race underway. On one side we have the AGW crowd, now extensively holding the levers of government moving to enact their destructive agenda. The other party to the race are the growing number of scientists now joining the "denier" camp, hoping to stop the insanity before we ruin our economy. Fortunately the present financial crisis is helping thwart the AGW agenda, forcing the governments to focus efforts elsewhere. If we are lucky the realists/deniers will have enough time to sway public opinion before too much damage is done.

Funny how these metropolitans are legislating themselves extinct .
What do they do with the recovered vapour ?
Compress it back into gasoline ?
Takes a lot of energy to compress a gas. Lots !! More dang CO2 emmissions .
Functionality has never been a big concern for Lefty policy makers.
Its why I vote against them whenever possible.
The vapour recovery system collects the gasoline vapours from the vehicle tank as the fuel fills the tank, and sends the vapours back to the underground storage tanks. When the tanker fills the storage tank, the vapour from the storage tank fills the tanker. Then the tanker fills and returns the vapours to the refinery, where the vapours are collected and liquified to be sent out again (Hey - sell the vapours twice).
Intended to reduce the gasoline vapours released into the env.
This is just the start of regulating companys into extinction. How long will people allow this type of stuff to carry on. Not to long I hope, but it's discouraging to see the right wing people swallowing the leftist fish hook just to keep power. Bush resisted for along time, in the end he started to bend the wrong way. same as Harper, same as Stelmack. Where will it all lead? What is the real endgame? It's all so un-nessesary. I think they are trying to destroy our way of life. They know the sun is the driver of a ever changing climate, but they need to control you. And they will.
You can always count on the State never being an equal oppertunity Tax thief. The end game as Rand so artfuly told. Is complete collapse from regulation madness & over taxation.
Who do you steal from when all have become highwaymen to survive?
The cancer of envy has eaten our Natiional soul.

All the under gasoline tanks are vented to the air. If you close them off no pumpie gas. Bird brains. The amount you can retreive is in the .0001 % of total consumpution. Good saving there. The brains must hurt how else stupidity.
I live in California. They say the new recovery system is going to cut down emissions .03%. Of course if a lot of gas stations close we might have to drive miles out our way to find gas but no one thought of that. Gas stations closing might put a couple of thousand more in the unemployment line but again so what. The way the voting districts are setup it's impossible to vote the libs out. Maybe when the crackheads can't cash their state IOU's things will change.
Hey Rick, you saying it's wall to wall crackheads in California too? Canada's infested. Sometimes I think the crack business may be bigger than the gasoline business, that's scary.
Sorry Gus, the damage is done. Look at the mess called debt, it is drowning everyone directly and indirectly, a lot of it caused by this stupidity. Rick in California, I only hope your people start to wake up soon, seems like America was tipped on her side once and every loose nut rolled to California, sorry Rick.
The US has some serious structural problems. Average savings rate is negative one percent. That can't be good - it was sustained by tapping home equity - that's gone. Average credit card debt - outstanding - is $8K per household.
And then - we have champagne socialists (limousine liberals, whichever term you like) trying to make weird interventionist decisions that are totally non-sensical and impractical.
Obama has talked a lot of sacrifice - but I think the sacrifice is supposed to be made by future generations (increased debt) and foreigners (holding US Treasurys)
It seems that every nut idea to make its way into Canada originates in California. Thank god they are flat broke and reverting to insignificance. All they need to top it off is the "big quake" and then maybe we can get back to common sense. Give whatever is left back to Mexico and lets start over with one less state.
