No doubt the UN will launch a full investigation. Senior administrators in the UN have indicated that they are "outraged... outraged and totally surprised", that such a thing could be going on.

Jeepers, it looks like a bunch of armed Hamas militants are being ferried around by a UN vehicle, but there's simply no way that would ever happen, because if it did, CBC/CTV/CNN/MSNBC would have covered it. They'd have to, because it would give new, instructive context to the meaning of all the UN's pronouncements on the dispute.

BO is between a rock and a hard place on this as he needs the Jewish lobby and after his pentagon and CIA briefings he knows how important Israeli is as an ally and how short a fuse it is before Iran's nuclear threat needs to be dealt with. On the other side is Europe - wrestling with its internal islamic radicalism - hoping that BO will be less sympathetic to Israel and more prepared to let them back into the ME on the side of the Islamic dictators and thus maybe reduce some of their domestic tensions.

I suspect that BO will be just about as hardline as the Republicans were meaning it will be a very short time before France and Germany et al start expressing their great disappointment with BO.

Nope, not me! I don’t even know any Jews personally, but do enjoy some of the films and books by great Jewish authors and filmmakers.

I think you misunderstand some of our sentiments towards the issues of the Palestinians, when we appear to pick sides between the Israeli/ Palestinian conflict.

First and foremost many or most of us are simply sick of it! It’s not our issue or problem truly to begin with. We are tired of the pandering and support we are asked to give to support the Palestinian cause while they lob rockets at innocent civilians and strap bombs to their children to kill many more. We see the faked propaganda video’s made to sell their plight to an unaware western audience, while they burn American flags and scream death to Americans (because they are the richest country to draw support and it’s not going their way). We see the other extremists sympathetic to their cause march in our streets with slogans like “Death to Freedom” or “Behead those that mock Islam”. They riot in European cities and try to replace our culture and laws with their repressive own, all the while citing the Palestinian cause as their justification and crimes.

The Jews on the other hand live quietly in our midst and have done so for the last 1000 years. They either prosper to the highest levels of our economy or quietly live in their own secluded communities and mind their own business.

Your or any other Muslims criticisms of our overall support for the Israelis or Jewish people goes right over our heads! If you or anyone else thinks they can convince the “non- Jewish” peoples of the world that they are backing the wrong team, you are truly delusional.

When the Palestinians lay down their arms, and do away with their fanatical slogans and militias. No one in the west has any doubts that Israel will come to the table and talk peace. Period.

You also misunderstand that although I personally do not have a Jewish friend I do respect the Jewish peoples by their deeds and actions. I also most certainly do have many friends of all walks of lives and cultures having lived more than half my life within them around the world including the Middle East, North Africa and South East Asia with particular emphasis on Muslim countries. It’s not that funny then I haven’t met too many Jews to befriend!

The other point you made is directed towards my bias of two equally foreign cultures Jews & Muslims living peacefully in Canada. That’s a little smoke and mirror work by you, because as with all Canadians I view the world through a global lens. What Muslims are doing in Canada is a symptom of their number and fear of reprisal by a much larger conservative population. Unlike the much larger Muslim populations of Europe surrounded by an unarmed liberal demographic. We are savvy enough in other words to see the trouble brought on by Muslims in their host countries once their numbers and confidence is large enough. This occurs globally and would indeed be happening within the US and Canada today except for our national predispositions. In other words we guard against abusive regimes and totalitarian philosophies from invading our national heritage! I’m sorry but Islam does not make the grade as coexisting within our societies from informed and experienced Canadian opinions.

I find some attacks and insults directed at New a waste of time to read. If the purpose of this website is just to shout to each other how good "our" opinions are, and how bad any other opinion is, then have at 'er.

However, I would find it more interesting to neither shout nor vilify, but rather as some posts have, outline briefly why posters here feel so strongly about their positions, using facts and rational arguments. Otherwise, isolationism will increase.

It's not my site, and I'm not trying to be high hat, but really, some back and forth stuff can be really boring to sift through.

You’re more than welcome to jump in and redirect the thread with your own insights.

I gave “new” a little face time based on Kate’s assertion on the previous thread that “new” was a genuine Muslim of bad English simply attempting to make a bad point, and responded in kind.

My return comments were not at all personal attacks on “new”, they were indeed intended to be statements of my position and my reasons behind them, i.e. fodder for rebuttal and debate.
