In defense of some, after a while it was hard to figure out how to join the pro-Israeli protesters. They became more and more barricaded in. And the presence of pro-Israeli protesters seemed drew a certain element in the crowd like a lightning rod. However, perhaps it was salutary for the anti-Israel types to see BIG BAD ISRAEL represented by a very small, brave group of people. Anyone who saw them would have to admit that they had guts.
Two pro-Palestinians beside me were bemused at the small group of pro-Israel counterdemonstraters and one wondered why "the Jews" didn't "use their money to send more people" to stand with them.
One thing we really have to do is teach immigrants over and over again--their kids in school, their adult kids in universities and colleges, themselves at work--that anti-Semitism is the sign of a stupid person. Possibly TV ads stating "Not all Jews are rich" would come as a surprise to people whose, shall we say, anti-racist training was not as extensive as that of the average Canadian 10 year old.
I put the blame of a lot of this on our media. If those folks didn't get media attention this nonsense would die down. They seem to be performers and if they had nothing to perform for they would probably stay home.

Bill Steward, you make a valid point, and I ask you to identify where one finds this fundamentalism and radicalism. Clearly it is at home and thriving with the Islamofascists and Leftist-fascists. Which group preaches tolerance and yet is the most intolerant of anyone who disagrees and seeks all means to shut down the same? Which group is determined to impose its religion on others? Which group demands special treatment for its religion and customs? Fundamentalism and radicalism are not equally distributed among the left and the right (conservatives). I'm often puzzled trying to figure out these SDA articles. The comments seem to follow a thread (annoyance with Toronto libs and the CHRC), but what's the source of this discontent? The lead article refers to an incident with "Jessica Choo Choo", but who is Jessica Choo Choo, and what did she do? Or what was done to her? Neither the SDA lead, nor the links explain any of this to the reader. Oh well, like many SDA items, it leaves me feeling quite good about the collective annoyance spilling over the edge, but I still don't have a clue what it's about. This is where it pays off to study journalism: you learn to explain what you're excited about in the first paragraph, and not leave the reader totally confused right to the end!

The answer is obviously no. The armed forces are one place where suddenly the non-white minority don't want to be proportionally represented because there's risk involved.
Look at all the Canadian dead in Afghanistan...almost exclusively white Christians. Canadian Muslims have no interest in helping fellow Muslim Afghanis, not even with a risk-free street demo here against the Taliban. If anything, they favor the strict Muslim regime of the Taliban.
But that's not the worst of it and just as well that they don't enlist because their loyalty is suspect. A devout Muslim's prime loyalty is to the ummah of fellow Muslims around the world, not the non-Muslim country he is in the process of colonizing.
From birth they are as programmed as the Manchurian candidate. Even if they shirk the constant praying for a time and give every appearance of being a "moderate" Muslim, they can be suddenly and unpredictably activated into extremists by even trivial events because the wiring was installed in their formative years by home and mosque, including virtual mosque on the Internet now.
