With the notable exception of Mr. Zed, Mr. Ignatieff's inner circle thus far appears to be top-heavy with Torontonians, most of whom played key roles in the Toronto MP's two leadership campaigns.
He's lived outside the country all of his life. How many people can he know?
(Besides, isn't that where the hockey team is?)

Toronto heavy eh?
I bet the Atlantic provinces feel slighted fro not having more representation within the upper ranks.
As for the rest of us? Who knows, I am not sure there are that many liberals left outside of Toronto and the maratimes. I think he had pretty slim pickings once he got to the border of Toronto.... lmao.
Great news! The rest of Canada will perhaps understand how the 'Toronto Party' can't possibly stand for them.
Barcs, get back to us when your spell checker starts working.
CTV.ca Love In Continues
"Ignatieff Rising"
Politics Page Ctv.ca since the Coronation in Dec.
As any good Messiah does Mr. Ignatieff is waiting for the MSM to alert the public to the evilness of the conservative government as far as causing this global financial crisis before the citizens come grovelling to his door to plead with him to save the country/economy/world and especially Toronto city hall. His smile/smirk is creepy although his handlers would say it denotes thoughtful intelligence, I find it blood-curdlingly cold and remote.
Hmmmm Torontonian nepotism in the "Toronto Party"...how odd.
Remember, as far as most Central Canadian political parties are concerned (and the Liberals are pretty much the ne plus ultra of Central Canadian political parties), "Canada" is everything you can see from the top of the CN Tower on a clear day.
Garth
I've had this idea for quite some time; Toronto should be it's own City State, with it's own government, separate from the ROC.
After all, we ignorant rednecks out West shouldn't have a say in what's best for Toronto.
Then Layton, Iggy, Miller, McGuinty etc., can tweak their world to their heart's content, without any interference from the smelly masses in the outback.
I can see the tourism ads for the Centre of the Universe in this scenario,"visit Toronto, Perfection personified"!
The good news is if he ever gets to be PM, Toronto can expect a lot of soldiers to shovel snow from their streets.
On the CTV National News the night of the Gold medal game, the reporter (richardson) noted that the PM was in attendance with his son, then Good Ol Loyd ask's the reporter who else of political importance was at the game.
He responds Ignatieff,etc.....
But funny thing though You would think that TSN would have shown on Camera the Leader of the Opposition in the stands, At least once! during the game.
Toronto-heavy, eh? Could be worse, could have a bunch of Montreal mob guys in there. Like Chretien, Marin, whatsizname the white haired pencil neck who just got turfed out... :)
Too bad Torontonians think the world ends at Oakville, otherwise one might hope this was a change for the better.
So bryanr, richardson was spinning? Say it ain't so!!They are so desperate to push their man they even fabricate his 'presence' because the rest of Cananda was 'there', Iggy was too...what boloney and desperation on the part of Lloyd and Graham!!
dmorris, I agree! However...it isn't just the west that is 'disconnected' from the Territory of Toronto. Just 1 hour drive from the city you will meet Canadians that claim there is somthing 'in the air' in Toronto that affects the minds of otherwise normal people...including many of my relatives!
Hey the Bloc Quebecois is all run by Quebecers, so should not the Bloc Torontois be run by Torontonians. Crikey, even that sounds dorky. Toronto: 4 million people with nowhere else to go.
"Bloc Torontois"
Oh that's choice. Love it.
>-Ms. Fairbrother said: “I think everybody took a break over the holidays and I don't think we need to apologize for that.”
No, what you and your foot-soldiers need to apologize for is almost turning "the holidays" into another election campaign period and then blaming the fact that you got normal holidays on Parliament having to be prorogued.
I hope you enjoyed your holiday break.
Oh, and Ignatieff's real inner circle includes Jack Layton and Gilles Duceppe because his party is the Bloc Coalition of which the Liberal Party of Canada is now merely a subset.
I think Iggy was there. But with all this global warming he fell through the ice.
Give the Iggy a break, being Murican he would have difficulty recognizing any city other than Montreal. So picking peeples from Torontoe is a progressive step for him, or it means he's got good lieberal consultants.
In all the years I travelled south of the border, it was a rare occasion to have some one know anything about torontoe when I mentioned it.
The Liberals (and the NDP) still operate on the "Old Canada" model. Both of those parties are completely blind to the fact that Canada outside of the Golden Triangle (soon to be the Rust Triangle) has grown, matured and no longer appreciates the paternalistic attitude of the Central Canadian Imperialists.
The Liberals and the NDP are 30 years behind the times.
Now that Iggy is poised for greater things, a more upmarket riding than the declasse Liberal "rotten borough" of Lakeshore seems appropriate.
MI does not require a diversity of regions to understand Canadians. His talent lies in absorbing such information by sight and smell. As in understanding rural Canada by seeing and smelling a barn. Accordingly, the Toronto team's strategy is:
1) The book: So, You Want to Be Canadian: All About the Most Fascinating People in the World and the Magical Place They Call Home
2)A specially designed booklet of "scratch and smell" stickers featuring assorted Canadian aromas.
-"dirty" tarsands to appreciate Alberta
-Bengay to understand seniors
-the sulfurous smell following a handgun shooting to represent inner-city crime.
Best of all, The LPOC bean-counters have OK'ed this strategy as the most affordable option.
Given the fact the LPC is little more than a Toronto rump these days, I can hardly blame Iggy for surrounding himself with people from the Centre Of The Universe (tm).
"In all the years I travelled south of the border, it was a rare occasion to have some one know anything about torontoe when I mentioned it."
OT but I couldn't agree more. Kardinal Offishal, Toronto's "rap king" finally made it "big" in 2008. He was the most sought after rapper by record labels and finally signed on Akon's label Convict Music. Torontonians have been waiting over 20years for credibility in the mainstream rap crowd. Finally the T.O. rap scene is getting the respect it deserves; but, there is one little problem...
Kardinal Offishall, his record label and the programs he frequents (ie BET new years bash) are minimizing his connection to T.O. as much as possible. He is being marketed as someone "from the islands". Betrayed! This is how Toronto Hip Hop fans must feel. The flavor of Hip Hop that has dominated T.O. for the last decade has crossed to the mainstream(US fans), as long as they don't know it's from Toronto; because, after all, nobody outside of Toronto cares about Toronto, especially Americans!
Toronto? What's to know, other than the Maple Leafs are there?
[ducking to avoid flying objects from across the northern border]
So, Heart and Stroke CEO Rocco Rossi appointed chief admin officer and fundraiser for the Liberal party.
Another good reason not to give any funds to H and S. Think he will be taking the donator list from H and S over to the Liberals?
Next time H and S calls for money, I will not be giving and I will tell them exactly why.
re: Heart and Stroke CEO----Funny how the pariahs slither from place to place but never get off the gravy train.
PM Harper is a fan of hockey and has written a book about the game. He was at the game as a fan and supporter not to do political grandstanding. His son Ben, who also plays hockey, was with him as well.
If Iggy was there at least the TSN crew didn't play politics and show him. They're all well aware of the PM's interest in the game of hockey, it's genuine and has nothing to do with politics. He's a true fan who just happens to be the PM.
Iggy on the other hand is suspect. He may be a fan of hockey IF NECESSARY, but NOT NECESSARILY a fan.
My apologies Jim, I spent most of my time working instead of learning to spell.
You must have lots of time to spellcheck the internet while waiting for the next handout.
Maybe next you can go stand on a street corner and wag your finger at jaywalkers.....

I have a spilling checker
It come wit my PC.
It plainly mark fore my revue,
Mistakes I can not sea.
I've run this poem threw it,
I'm sure your pleased too no.
Its letter perfect in its weigh,
My checker told me sew.
If Ignatieff is surrounding himself with his loyalists, it appears the Liberals didn't get another Dion, they got another Paul Martin!

Barcs, If Jim wants to drive himself mad he should read some of the comments posted by "new".
I love the Crooked Liberal Party du Canada because they follow Richard Needham's dictum- 'The value of making mistakes is to learn which ones you enjoyed the most, so you can make them all over again'.
Naturally, the party that limited its complete attention and devotion to the Three Big Cities over the last 40 yrs would limit its leadership entirely from those cities.
But hey, we're talking Harvard here.
This time it's different.
Iggy's not much different than Dion, except for his English.
Chris is right, Peter's "Bloc Torontois" has legs and could be a name that sticks...
And it would be well recieved not only in Western CDA but also Atlantic CDA and much of Ontario including the 'burbs around Toronto.
Anything that keeps Paul Zed out of Saint John is OK by me.
Cheer up Canada, Iggy is making my hometown a better place. He can't be all bad.
Remember when the LPC brought up that shrilly American Howard Dean to speak at their convention way back in the day and he spoke to them about reaching out to areas where they would not normally go trolling for votes?
Thankfully the LPC weren't listening, maybe because it was an American who was advising them. Funny how the Obama campaign did exactly that and look how that turned out.
Maybe they believe that because they have W running their war room they won't have to do anything else. Hopefully that will be the case, lol.
Yep, "Bloc Torontois". Now that I've seen that, how could I ever call them anything else? Thanks, Peter.

You don't even have to live in Canada to be part of the Canadian Family ... Lebanon, Gaza, UK, USA ... even China if you're Mo Strong.
"The good news is if he ever gets to be PM, Toronto can expect a lot of soldiers to shovel snow from their streets."
Uh Fred, as I am currently living in the Centre of the Universe, I can honestly tell you that this is a serious political argument that Dippers/Libs actually use. I take it that your remark is not facetious. Quotes I've heard in political conversations with people here include:
"Why are we fighting in Afghanistan? Shouldn't the soliders be helping Canadians?"
"It was so hard getting in to work the other day, too bad the army is in Afghanistan instead of shovelling the snow."
"These snowplows aren't enough, there's too much snow, we need the army to help with our traffic problem when it snows..."
