Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. Tonight, for your delectation, we have a special presentation in honour of Tuesday's results. Dedicated to the lovely and gracious Miss Kate McMillan, here is Mr. Louis Armstrong performing Hello Dolly (2:29, live). And now, if y'all will very much forgive me:

Hello, Katee. This is Vitruvius, Katee.
It's so nice to see you back where you belong.
You're lookin' swell, Katee; I can tell, Katee:
You keep glowin', still crowin', you're still goin' strong.

I feel the room swayin', while the band's playin',
One of our old favourite songs from way back when.
So: take her wrap, fellas, find her an empty lap, fellas,
Katee'll never go away, oh yeah.

Your Reader Tips are, as always, welcome in the comments.

Bravo, Vitruvius, Bravo!

And congratulations to Kate on a blog well done.

OMG - how CLOSE is THAT!!

Congrats Kate!

Wow!

I wish I could shimmy like my sister Kate.

A song from the past has just percolated to the top of my memory.

How lucky I was to have known all four of my grandparents—all born about 1900. Despite—or maybe because of—the Great War, the Depression, and WW II, they had a real joie de vivre and really whooped it up—and they taught my parents and their kids all kinds of great old songs like this one:

B-B-Beautiful Katie,
B-B-Beautiful Katie,
You’re the only g-g-girl
That I adore.

And when the m-moon shines
Over the cowshed,
I’ll be waiting
At the k-k-k-kitchen door!

I wish I could sing it for everyone here. Vitruvius, maybe you can find it.

YEAH SDA!!

(I just Googled "B-B-Beautiful Katie" and got a much more extended version than the chorus I'd learned. WW I song . . .

http://www.firstworldwar.com/audio/katy.htm)

Here's a 1918 version, if you're interested, Lookout.

Hmmm. Was going to say I was glad that something didn't exist, only to find out it does.

CTV....another opinion poll gone wrong "Should the prime minister seek Omar Khadr's return to Canada?" 66% say no

This is awesome! Congrats Kate *fingers crossed*. You definitely deserve the recognition!

Vitruvius, how good of you. Thank you SO much. I LOVED it.

And I remember all those old 78s, in their plain, brown paper sleeves or, sometimes, in sort of an album. The machine my grandparents used when I was young was not as old as the one in the video, but, I remember the scratchy sound: Bing, Ella, Rosemary, Rudy, Benny, the Duke, Louis, Noel (my sister and I could mimic all his risque lyrics--"half caste woman . . . ": we had not a clue what they meant).

What exuberance and openness to life! What talent! What wonderful memories!

Vitruvius, that looks like piano hero 1918.

My parents took me to see Louis in 1964 I think in the Jubilee. What a true musical genius he was, and with no American content rules he came from the colored waifs home in New Orleans, and rose to the top. Thanks Vit, I always have savored the chance to see Satchmo live, and thanks to my parents for the opportunity.

Ural, I'm laughing. WHAT FUN! And I actually sang along with most of it: 'good thing my husband's gone to bed!

At the end, I wished I'd had some tap dancing shoes and knew how to use them!

I once spent a while at a piano roll piano in--Biggar, Saskatchewan. ("You think New York is big. Well, this is Biggar!" That's actually the sign as one enters this hamlet.)

Before bed, I think I'll toast Kate and SDA once more!

One looking for waste and inefficient use of taxpayer funds never has to look very far:

CIDA in hotseat over wine and lingerie

Sue Bailey
THE CANADIAN PRESS
OTTAWA – A foreign aid program that gave a big Niagara winery $108,000 to study icewine prospects in China is being reviewed by the Harper government.
The same business partnership program handed over $103,000 to a Montreal company to run a sewing factory in China that makes women's sleep wear and lingerie. Critics have questioned why the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) still sends aid to one of the world's emerging economic superpowers...."

Why, yes Sue, that is a good question. Let's see who got the free ride....

Charles Pillitteri, son of former Liberal MP Gary Pillitteri, says his winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont., applied to the program after his father left politics. The vineyard is billed as one of the largest icewine producers in the world.

Pillitteri Estates received $108,263 over two years ending last year to study the potential for a joint icewine venture in Xinjiang, an autonomous region of northwestern China.

"The CIDA program actually went very well," Pillitteri said in an interview....."

Wow.

Politicians families accessing government cash and largesse - just to spread the word of Canadia. How benevolent.

So hey Chuck - if it was economic to begin with, why did you have to crawl to the government for taxpayer cash, to do what was a profitable transaction in the first place?

Yeah, I thought so. Another connected professional welfare case, hiding under the umbrage of international development.

Get a job loser. And off of the taxpayer. Or have you no shame?

I'm getting an ache in my head again.

From not knowing an innovation existed to finding the origins of the karaoke in less than an 1/2 hour.

I suspect, Ural, that the origins of karaoke go back to the dawn of human language, first from familial and hunting party campfires, then through tribal performances, on to hymnals, and now to recording technology, given that it is likely we were capable of basic acustico-musical concepts (such as bird songs, for example) before we were capable of lyrical linguistic skills thereto. So we're probably talkin' many tens of thousands of years.

Vit

Congrants again to Kate and yerself and all the devoted rodents who fought the good fight.....I can only imagine the emotional distress being experienced by "Canada's premiere blogger" but I must admit to taking great pleasure in the thought!

Syncro

And Vitruvius, heard your loons again the other day. LOL.

Is that you narrating? If so WOW. Straight on, or a lot of EQ?

And have you ever been told that your voice is -- to use a Vitruvian phrase -- not unlike Glenn Gould's (The Idea of North, for example).

Well done young Lady and congratulations on your continuing growth and contributions. Cheers

Hip Hip Hooray for Kate! Proud to be Canadian.

Hold on there! We are demanding that the pile of rejected ballots be examined by an impartial jury, to be made up of Ace of Spades members. Also, we call on Harry Reid to not seat Kate until all legal options are exhausted. This isn't over!

Do you want to know what we do to lawyers in Gopher country?

Beside when the little ones come out in the spring we could quadruple that vote.

I too periodically revisit the Vitruvian loons. It's entertaining on so many levels. Thanks for that, Vitruvius.

I voted for Ace everyday... last year.

Now it's Kate all the way - congratulations Kate!

The BC "Human Rights" Tribunal is up to its old antics again. This time around they've determined that some girls in Victoria were discriminated against and now Little League Canada has to pay each girl $1,000. Jon McComb at CKNW discusses it here at 35:30.

The response from the callers was mixed. If you want to hear a real victim's fest, listen to an earlier segment around 3:16pm. You can do so with my Canadian radio stations audio player.

Last year, the Detroit Red Wings were the top National Hockey League team, and quite likely the best hockey team in the world. The New York Giants were the top National Football League, and also quite likely the best football team in the world. This year SDA was the top conservative blog in North America and arguably the best Conservative blog in the world. Yeah, that sounds about right to me.

Yahoo!
Kate you know how the Canadian MSM likes to champion Canadians who put up a good fight against the Americans. You might even replace Omar Khadr as CBC’s favourite.
So make sure that you set aside an appropriate amount of time in the next few days for interviews with the Canadian MSM. Do you think ten minutes might be too much?

Congratulations Kate. Seeing as how Ace isn't a Liberal, I don't think that he will be contesting the vote.
Actually I had never read his blog before. I find it pretty good and have added it to my Bookmarks.

Congrats kate! Well deserved! you are simply the best!
Hey vit when are you going to highlight some angry young man music, or are you still fixated with the heroin chic crowd?

It's about time music against Islamic tyranny begun:

Roy Harper 'Black Cloud of Islam' www.liveleak.com/view?i=532_1229566090

lyrics:

Well I'm sick to the teeth of the news on the screen
of the Hezbollah scum and Jihad the obscene
whose men plant the bombs and then live feeling free
to watch women and children be killed on TV.

Which Satan delivers a child a death curse
in the name of a worn out collection of verse?
I've not read the book so I cannot recite
but I'd bet Salman Rushdie is just about right
underneath the black cloud of Islam

What kind of publicity needs so much blood
that's not for some sad diabolical god
selling himself as a two-bit Macbeth
as the expert in sentencing cousins to death

And what kind of god can this be anyway
that you have to prostrate to it five times a day
with hate in your heart and a gun in your hand
is force the only thing to understand
underneath the black cloud of Islam?

And the butchers who've got all this blood on their hands
are the ones who need god to be stood where he stands
blessing this kidnapping, murder and war
with books written hundreds of ages before

And women in veils walking paces behind
doesn't sit easy in my kind of mind
it speaks of oppression and no other choice
than rigid compliance with the loudest voice
underneath the black cloud of Islam

And you can put a lead bullet clean through this guitar
'cos I'm not overjoyed with the story so far
sharing a world with the nutters of god
is as good as being six feet under the sod

And words that are written are all here to stay
and these are the latest there are anyway
and I am the prophet so don't believe me
I'm the same as the old ones expect that I'm free
to give you a piece of my mind which is this
you're the worst of Jehova's blind witlessnesses
with your feet in the door of the deepest abyss
which is underneath, which is underneath,
which is underneath the Black Cloud Of Islam

"'Killer' cold snap hits Thailand

A SEVERE cold snap in Thailand has prompted authorities to declare an emergency zone across more than half of the country normally renowned for its tropical weather.

Local media have reported up to five deaths as a result of exposure to unusually cold conditions, but the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department said they were still verifying the reports.

As temperatures fell to 4C in some parts, officials said today that 42 of 76 provinces, mostly in the north and northeast, would get a special budget to provide blankets and warm clothing.

The Meteorological Department said the temperature in Bangkok fell to 15C yesterday - cold for the capital, but still far off its record low of 11C recorded in 1974.

"Because the high pressure from China keeps coming, the cold weather will stay in Bangkok at least until this weekend,'' a meteorological official said."

"GORE LIED"
http://gorelied.blogspot.com/2009/01/video-skeptics-skeptic-sen-james-inhofe.html

Mohammad. We all know he was a pedophile. But now it's been revealed in the Hadiths, that he had homo tendencies and was a necrophiliac:

“What prophet is this you follow?!” cried the outraged Coptic priest. “Where is his morality? This is the man that Muslims follow slavishly? Use your minds?!”

"It was late in the night, yet Fr Botros was not done cataloging his findings regarding the prophet’s “sexual” habits (these shows are an hour and a half long). So, when he moved on to a hadith depicting Muhammad laying next to a dead woman in her grave, as well as pointing to hadith categories called “intercourse with a dead woman,” I happily turned off the satellite and called it a night—till this moment, as I am (somewhat reluctantly) revisiting my notes to prepare this report."

Rosie DiManno at the TORedStar:

"Canada a voice of integrity at UN"

"It is an increasing rarity for a country to do the right thing, boldly.

That is especially true from within the diplomatic bell jar of the United Nations, where tact and expedience so often trounce ethics.

Thus Canada is to be commended, rather than trashed, for voting against a preposterously imbalanced motion, courtesy of the agency's thoroughly discredited and Orwellian human rights council, a misnomer if ever one existed.

Anybody with an iota of intellect or grasp of recent internal history understands that the council is a sham, silent on many catastrophic crimes against humanity but fanatically obsessive about Israel's conduct in Palestine."

"The council has once more disgraced itself. Canada, a beacon of sanity, wasn't suckered."

Oh Man, what a morning after, but it's still sweet.

Congrats again Kate, and to all who went out of their way yesterday to vote in my finest hour lastnite I toasted you several times. ;-)

Of course, my favorite toast is and always has been to Wifes and Girlfriends, May They Never Meet.

Great song Vit, as always.
,

Just when you thought you had heard it all from the hug-a-thug lefties. I agree with so many of our posters that liberalism is a mental condition.

"But HIV advocacy groups -- and now two respected AIDS scientists -- say such prosecutions are doing more harm than good, and are calling for authorities to stop criminalizing what they consider a public-health issue.

Dr. Mark Wainberg, a Montreal scientist who headed the International AIDS Society for two years, publicly joined the anti-criminalization movement with an editorial in the journal Retrovirology last month, and admits his stance might seem "counter-intuitive."

But, like others, he argued that publicity about the scores of criminal HIV cases that have cropped up across Canada is adding to the negative aura around the disease, discouraging people from coming forward to get tested, and thus furthering the virus's spread.

The criminal law should be used when someone deliberately tries to infect another person -- through a needle prick or similar malicious action -- but not in the context of consensual sex, he said."

I guess the damage to the self-esteem of absolute shits like Aziga is far more important than his murdering these two women and sentencing his other victims to a life-shattering hell of AIDs treatment.

"Turkish Man Returns Property of 1915 Assyrian Genocide Victims

Inheritance from a Turkish father was shown to be taken from an Assyrian who was killed during the genocide in 1915. Berzan Boti is now apologizing for what his forefathers did and is returning the house and other properties to its rightful owners.

At the end of 2008 a ninety year old taboo about the genocide was broken. Approximately 200 intellectual Turks started an appeal, apologizing to the Armenians for what happened in 1915 (AINA 12-12-2008). The genocide (called Seyfo in Assyrian) was called "the huge disaster" in the appeal.

Berzan Boti has bequeathed all properties to the Seyfo Center, a genocide studies institute based in Sweden. The properties were owned by Assyrians before the Seyfo genocide in 1915.

A year ago, Berzan Boti contacted the Seyfo Center. In the letter he apologized for what had happened in 1915 and expressed his willingness to return the properties:

"When I found out that the properties that I and my brothers inherited from our father wasn't our own, but properties taken from the murdered Assyrians in 1915 I felt an indescribable feeling of guilt and shame. I've been thinking long and hard before I have come to this decision. I tried to put myself in their position. I have personally apologized to every Assyrian and Armenian I've meet. But this does not get rid of the crime our ancestors committed. Even if I am personally not responsible for what happened in 1915, I felt as I had to do more than just to apologize. Finally, I came to the decision to give back all properties that I inherited from my forefathers to Seyfo Center, who struggles for a confession of the Seyfo genocide in 1915"."

[The Other] CSIS, FATA - A Most Dangerous Place

Increased militancy and violence in the border region between Afghanistan and Pakistan, known as the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), have brought this region into sharper focus, as U.S., Afghan, and Pakistani leaders attempt to find solutions to the problems underlying the situation there. This most dangerous spot on the map may well be the source of another 9/11 type of attack on the Western world or its surrogates in the region. Should such an attack occur, it likely will be spawned in the militancy that grips FATA and contiguous areas in Afghanistan and Pakistan today. Failure to bring peace and to restore a modicum of stability to FATA will have widespread repercussions for the region and perhaps the world...

There is an interesting one going on at the CBC right now.
Our buddy Neil MacDonald has a piece on how the Maryland police called 'Maryland police and their weird war on 'terror''.
Under the name JoeGopher I've been bringing MacDonald's credibility into question because of the absurd story he did on Sarah Palin's five month pregnant daughter being the the real mother of 4 1/2 month old Trig Palin. It's kind of hard to be five months pregnant and the mother of a 4 1/2 month old baby.

But I keep getting censored.
The CBC does a story on unchecked government power then censors any suggestions of bias or lack of credibility of their own government funded broadcaster or reporter.
Sort of ironic.

"Polish-Israeli project in tribute to Polish wartime heroine Irena Sendler

Youth and officials from Poland and Israel have gathered in Warsaw for a presentation of a project to honour the memory of the unsung heroine of World War II Irena Sendler.

The presentation of a Polish-Israeli project commemorating Polish World War II heroine Irena Sendler, was held in Warsaw’s Presidential Palace on Friday. Poland’s First Lady Maria Kaczyńska recognised the author of the initiative Orit Fogel-Shafran, director Israel’s Ra’anana Symphonette Orchestra for her dedication to promoting dialogue between the two cultures by awarding her the Order of Merit, one of the highest state distinctions.

Her initiative to honour the memory of Irena Sendler as part of the Polish Year in Israel, includes a special composition entitled “Irena’s Song – A Ray of Light in the Darkness”, written by composer Kobi Oshrat. Alongside the musical tribute, Ms. Fogel-Shafran, with the help of the mayor of Ra’anana, invited Israeli teenagers to join the project, and so 2,500 of them wrote letters to Irena Sendler. They bore stamps issued specially for the occasion by the Israel Philatelic Authority featuring an image of Ms. Sendler and the words “thank you” in Hebrew, designed by Polish artist Rafał Olbiński. The letters were then sealed in vases, which are to be used to create a sculpture designed by a renowned Israeli artist Ilana Gur, to symbolise Ms. Sendler’s efforts to preserve the saved children’s identity during World War II. She would hide the real and fictitious names of the 2,500 children she smuggled from the Warsaw ghetto, so as to reconnect them with their surviving family members once the war was over."

Interesting factoid about the entire Weblog competition.

I did a random sample of many of the other blog races and could only find one that had more votes cast than 'Best Conservative', that being 'Best Blog'

I think it makes Kate's victory a bit sweeter knowing that she may have one the second most hotly contested/popular race. Sort of ranks with 'Best Actor/Actress' Oscar wins.
