No, really, they are.

I've been in journalism for 25 years, and I've been striving the whole time to get the words "clinically depressed poodle" in a headline. And now I've been beaten to it.

Greatest news story ever.

Hey now, I'm 1/2 German and quite frankly, I resemble that remark....

how dear Winnie put it.

The Germans,at your feet or at your throat.

Clinically Depressed!!!

man thats some shrink, that can diagnose a dog with Deppression(with no disrespect intended to dog lovers,we have 2 & i just think they are Clinically Nuts the way they carry on)
I have been under the impression that France as a whole has been Clinically Depressed for Years or is it Insane.

I was going to be generous, and maybe suggest it was a full sized standard poodle, but after seeing the pic of the rat on the chain, where can I send Sumo some tasty T-bones? Why didn't the dog do it long ago? Dog's got more guts then most Frenchmen.Hope Sumo got some rabies shot, after biting that commie!

I guess saying that Chirac surrendered to the poodle again is somewhat redundant.

RX for PCD (poodle Clinical Depression): 1 dose .22 short Remington. Generics allowed.

I hope the poodle suffers no lasting effects.
Where can we send sympathy for the little ankle biter.

"The former French First Lady did not reveal where on his body Chirac was bitten..."

...leading French pundits to speculate that he was bitten on the Via Veneto, where his mistress was once pinched.

The dog is clearly Japanese as he is named "SUMO" after a style of wrestling.

Clearly 'SUMO' is living up to his name.

What is unclear is whether the dog was yelping "BANZAI" during his attack! Clearly the dog has had martial arts training.

If the dog were German obviously it would be a German Shepherd, Schnauzer, Dachshund, or Weimeraner with an appropriate name like "Willie","Fritz", "Ruprecht" or "Schatzi"

Kate, you have insulted the honour of poodles everywhere!

Miserable cur, pistols at dawn I say!

One might be lead to the conclusion, that "We don't know Jacques!"

Cheers,

Well you got to give one to the canines. They know a sneak when they see one.

There are some headlines that are destined to never be lived down.

Further proof the French will surrender to anything.

Thanks Kate, second belly laugh of the day and it's only 8:55 first was the "fab 4" pimping for the greenies on the budget, and now Jake get's savaged by Fe Fe, I guess that could best be described as the "incomprehensible in pursuit of the inedible" another "french defeat"
cheers Bubba

Is the dog a poodle or a Maltese? I'm pretty sure they're 2 distinct breeds.

There's only one solution to a dog which makes 'vicious, unprovoked attacks' - a one-way trip to the vet.

So is the dog a maltese or a poodle? Poodles are great dogs in my experience. I have no experience with the maltese.

The Poodle should do the National Stress Relief employed by many others in France. Burn a car.

'vicious, unprovoked attacks' - a one-way trip to the vet.

Au contraire Kathryn, this dog should be bred in order to produce more of his ilk, ie discerning biters.

The poodle is "depressed" only because it lacks an Alpha leader in it's miserable life.

"So is the dog a maltese or a poodle? "

No.It's neither. It is the new "sarcasm" breed :)~

"Where? Behind the rabbit?"

Poodles (at least the larger ones) are also pretty good guard dogs. Then again, I somehow managed to sitstay a Yorkshire Terrier without a shock collar. People were amazed until they saw my wife: PiperPaul, sit! Down boy. Sig, SIT! (or at least reload the mag)

I think he was tougher just because of his name.

"Discerning biters." -- glasnost

That's funny. "The common characterization of Ubermaulers as a vicious breed is entirely false. They are in fact discerning biters, and therefore make excellent family pets."

Cesaaaar! where are you? If ever a family needed the Dog Whisperer the Chiracs do. Poor puppy!

1- if I was unfortunate enough to be a poodle, I'd be bitter and depressed, too.

2- if I was chirac's poodle, or other french journalist, I'd have bitten him, too.

3- it's sad that the French can't even win a fight with their own poodles.

that pitcher of Jacques in the car ?...there are TWO mutts in the back seat of the car with him....?...so like uh...which one was the perp ?

"Mauled" and "savaged" by a 4 pound poodle?

There's a journalist with a sense of humor. Actually the whole article is dripping with satire.

It's pretty obvious, Chirac shouldn't have been crawling around the little guy's food dish.

...crawling around the little guy's food dish.

mmmm..mmmm steak tartare

Don't laugh. These tiny poodles are a threat to the biggest of dogs. They get tuck in their throats.

Does this make Kate a poodle pundit?

My Shepard is German too but I'm hoping he can bite Layton.

now THAT is some funny bit of irony.

Catchy title, but a Maltese is not a Poodle (hint: Malta is not in France). Incidentally, 'pudel' (meaning 'to splash about') is a German word and is the origin of both the dog breed's name and the English word 'puddle'. In fact, the origins of the Poodle breed are in Germany (but not Sumo's ancestors). Most dogs won't bite unless frightened or provoked and even then would not intentionally bite their owners. End of the line for Sumo if I owned the little brute. French/Maltese/German whatever - so much for European unity!

Half a million of those poodles on the Maginot Line 70 years ago and the result might have turned out more favourably.
For Sale: 1 million French rifles. Only been thrown away once.

Jacques Chirac; back of the pack!

Maybe Chirac's grandson, Martin, the one who gave his grandfather the dog, programmed it to hasten Granddad's ... demise. 'Guess the dog just didn't bite in the right place.

damn poodles can't read white flags!!!!

Re the 'location'...can't have been the family jewels, doesn't Madame already have those?

Poodles are my least favourite breed of dog...to high maintenance...I only cut my hair once every six months...couldn't handle a dog that needs more gooming than I do.
