Whenever I read wretched and filthy diatribes like that I always wonder what the writer is like in real life.

I am a little bit in awe that a person who would appear to be normal while walking on the street could contain such bile. Surely it must seep out of the writer's pores, perhaps his face is slightly hard around the edges, linear, with the only motion the nasty kick of shrill mouth.

What civilised constraints have fallen from the pathways of his thoughts to even feel such venom could ever be acceptable even in a nightmare, let alone put to pixel for the world to peruse.

More practical speculation: Since the author claims his brain is not stuffed up his ass, I wonder where it resides, perhaps it it is up front propping up his self proclaimed boner.

I'm still giving you the benefit of the doubt that you are trying to contribute but truly, nobody knows what on earth you're trying to communicate.

I just carefully read through James Curran's recent posting about his earlier comments. I think full props need to be given him for clarifying his views. I don't know the man but I think all of us have had our words misinterpreted at one time or another.

Anyhow, the comments therein are very informative. That Robert McClelland is a real piece of work. The LibLogs are nowhere near radical enough for his level of hate. I've met his ilk a few times before, amongst some Radical Muslims and Neo-Nazis.

Jason Cherniak's latest posting at the top of LibLogs.ca is worth a read. I think he struck a reasonable tone, asking his writers on the Left to think carefully about what they're saying. Oh sure, a cynical person would suggest that he's just trying to do damage control, for such comments could be devastating to the Liberal Party. But I don't play that "win at all cost" game.

I fully support Israel's actions but truly mourn every innocent Palestinian who has been killed or injured. Here's something I wrote to a Muslim friend of mine this afternoon:

When the snow clears I will:

1. Move your dear wife & children out of of your home into another area of Vancouver.
2. Go down to the Musqueum Native Reserve and talk with my Aboriginal "brothers".
3. A few hours later they will start firing missiles packed with nails into your home.

When this occurs, to stay consistent with your views you will not call the police or the military. Instead, you can "dialogue" with those firing the missiles.

I do NOT consider this to be an Jewish vs. Muslim situation. Put another way, if you think that I am anti-Muslim then you are 100% Incorrect. I feel incredible sympathy for the innocent Palestinian people. In many ways I see great similarities between them being lead down the wrong path and my father's own people being lead down a similarly wrong path 80 years ago.

Israel isn't going to "reoccupy" gaza. I think they would be insane to do so. They would buy more problems than they solve.

I am not eager to go there,I think it tends to freeze things in time and protect the protaganists from the consequences of their mistakes. However, if the only alternative is either a wipe out of either side then what choice is there. We aren't there yet though. The situation in the liberal party has been coming on for decades and was kept quiet by the party's electoral success and Chretien's strong leadership. With these gone I suspect that the liberal party will move much closer in policy to their anti-Isreali cousins in the European Left. Currently, the liberals hold about 20-25 seats in which a significant minority of voters would consider themselves supportive of Hamas and against Israel. At the same time, the NDP already has a very European leftist view of Israel. If the voters in these ridings moved on mass to the NDP during an election, the liberals would lose these ridings. If the Liberals are anything they are very adaptable when it comes to power - they will change their value's on a dime to win an election. We are witnesses to a major political realignment that is only just beginning.

Does anyone notice there is another border in the Gaza that the host country will not let the Palestinians cross? I guess it serves the purposes of their brethren. Israel is letting in food, fuel and medical supplies. The tunnels weren't built into Israel to the best of my knowledge.

Tell you something else that's relevant here. The Gaza population seems not to be angry at Hamas. If they were, they'd be dropping a dime on all these weapons caches and tunnels to the IDF, ratting out Hamas operatives, and generally making life really hard for Hamas. That ain't happening, apparently.

So much for the innocent, put upon, peace loving Gaza population. In my view, anyway. Could be I'm wrong, but from where I sit the average Pali has no problem with launching missiles at Israel.

Yes, I think that Joe has a point with his comment that the left operates within a basic framework of antagonism towards any established authority or power and support for those hostile to power. Simple; enables one to form opinions without thought.

Equally without thought is the view that one's opinions are genetic, ie, the claim that because one's grandfather was Jewish, then one must support whatever is 'Jewish'. Never mind that, as Ezra points out, membership in the Jewish religion is matrilineal rather than patrilineal. (Note: Judaism doesn't seek converts as does Christianity and Islam).

I'm speculating that the Liberal Party has given up on the Jewish vote; at one time it was an almost automatic action; if you were Jewish you voted Liberal. But I'm guessing that the Liberals are now moving to the more recent immigrants, the Islamic population and are after their vote.

The Liberals have never focused on policies only on power. They manipulate the population to achieve one result: votes. In between elections, the only task it to keep the people quiet, by funding them as special interest groups. So, the Liberals will be going after: Quebec and its special interests, new immigrants particularly Muslim and their special interests; and the leftist latte crowd of well-paid government employees in the three big cities. That's their base.

Now, where does that leave the NDP?

Have you ever noticed that many of these hate mongers can't spell, can't articulate a sentence and are just generally moronic. Their hate fetish must be an outcome of their ignorance and stupidity.

A quick glance at history tells me that we're much more willing to fight to the death for our way of life. You can pretty well count the number of islamists who are willing to openly fight for anything. They strap bombs onto women and teenagers, fly planes into buildings, and put explosives on roadsides. Able bodied Canadians and Americans willingly volunteer to wear uniforms, and dedicate years of their lives to protect their communities. Our citizens own firearms, so an actual invasion is not feasible. The current situation will likely not get a lot worse(over here), unless we're stupid enough to allow the uncontrolled muslim immigration to continue.

Those screeching protesters we see on the news seem pretty bold, but they know damn well our society won't gun them down. They take advantage of our hospitality at every opportunity, but the time must come when that hospitality fades away.

dc- I don't think that one can correlate anger and hatred with ignorance and stupidity. One can legitimately feel anger and hatred and it doesn't mean one is ignorant or stupid.

With regard to Sid Ryan, he has a letter in today's NP which is an attempt to rebut its editorial criticizing him for his CUPE Motion (not yet passed by the membership) that all Ontario Universities must reject all Israeli professors unless they sign a statement asserting that they are against this current Gaza war.

Ryan was criticized strongly for his Motion, for its violation of our Charter right of freedom of speech, its violation of our 'ahem' Human Rights Code, Section 13.1 of not exposing a people to 'feelings of hatred and contempt', for his rejection of the role of dissent and debate, and for his blanket condemnation of a people (Israelis)..and...for his misuse of the CUPE Union.

Ryan has no right to move a Union into a political statement. Ryan has the right to speak only for himself; he has no right to move a union into a political role. As someone pointed out, one's union dues then ought to be considered as political donations and given a tax credit!

But, instead of answering these cricitisms - namely; the violation of our Charter Right of freedom of speech with his insistence that Israeli professors be denied this right; the violation of Section 13.1 of the HRC with his defining an individual only as a member of a group; and the violation of the role of a union...instead of this, Ryan diverts his response to one issue.

He claims that he has the right to criticize Israel (no-one has said that he doesn't have such a right; it's his refusal of that right of free opinion to others that is the issue)..and supports his right by saying that 'others who are important (UN, etc) are also criticizing Israel (false argument: Appeal to Authority).

So - Ryan has teflon skipped right past his real actions of abuse of freedom of speech and setting up a group for hatred.
