Dr. Tooryalai Wesa, formerly an academic at UBC, is the new Governor of Kandahar province. And instead of telling his people what they want to hear, he's telling them what they need to hear.

Bravo and good luck to him
it all begins at HOME
Living proof that not ALL Muslims are bad.
Well if Damian likes him he must be ok. After all Damian helped change my mind on Obama.../sarq
I think I'll wait & see, but I'm optimistic.
He sounds like he has taken some of Canada back with him, not the leftard stuff, just good old fasion values.
Obama? Hunh? Sure you've got the right Damian?
Duh! Sorry Damian.
I'll still wait and see though.
Telling them what they need to hear is step 1.
Getting them to act on the advice is step 2.
We are half way there with this fine fellow.
I left this comment at the Torch also. When I first heard of this man I was very skeptical. I thought he was a publicity seeker out to line his pockets. It appears I was wrong. Good for him and keep up the good work.
In my experience of speaking and sharing bread with Afghani expatriates (having fled the country when the Taliban came to power), I have observed that many of them long to return to their country and to participate in the work of reconstruction and rehabilitation.
Tooryalai Wesa has taken on an enormous challenge. I hope that he will be able to establish and maintain the collaborations necessary to start re-building the country's infrastructures. He is a courageous man.
I was going to say Dr. Tooryalai Wesa's words are not politically-correct
But I think "not United-Nationy-correct" is more accurate.
Damian

Ahh, Gym, that's the beauty of Kate being moved up to the Best Conservative Blog category: you can vote for her, AND vote for me as Best Canadian Blog!
To be honest, my nose wouldn't be too out of joint if Kathy, Darcey, or Ezra won it either.
Blah. Blah. Blah...
Nothing of note here. He didn't repeal Sharia Law or anything.
The West including plenty of Canadians fought and died freeing this war torn bunch of folks from the ravages of Islamic fundamentalism. They had their first free elections and the winner promptly DECLARED SHARIA LAW.
To this day Canadians are fighting and losing lives in support of a government that clings to SHARIA LAW. We are supporting Sharia law?
So if Sharia Law is worth fighting for why not implement it here?
Food for thought.
Letting Afghanistan slide back into a safe haven for the fundamentalists isn't a good option, and so Canadians continue to fight.
People made the same isolationist argument against fighting to free Europe in WWII...
