How did the black guy get elected?

Moral preeners please note that the "magic moment" in history "closing a chapter on one of the darkest aspects" of America's past occurred on George W. Bush's watch.

Discuss.

Noted on one of the links there, somebody was referring to this as the "American Pie". For anybody who knows the song, guess we will see in a couple of years whether the "levie is dry" or not. IMHO,the song will be quite appropos of where America will be.

It is absolutely livid here in the South.

I have never seen so many people in shock.

It's as though we are waiting for the other foot to fall.
,

Closing a chapter on one of the darkest aspects of America's past.I assume this relates to Obama's past, now that he's president we can forget all about Chicago,Ayers,Blago, the Rev,the O's wife,am I forgetting anybody?

Ratt - expound on that if you will.

Another prime moment for the propogandists, 'standing before 2 million people','closing chapter on one of the darkest aspects of our history'. THE VEIL HAS BEEN LIFTED FROM MINE EYES, PERHAPS I SHALL BE SAVED TOO!!!!!!

"a chapter on one of the darkest aspects" Huh? We'll see if 2009 is the year America trashed itself, while giving in to the inverted morality of those who have vowed to trash it anyway.

I mentioned before that I think BO winning the election is in some part due to the success of GWB's foreign policy. The fact that Americans are living in a pre-9/11 mind set with respect to safety at home, the Americans can elect a "rookie". For the time being it seems the Americans are content putting their heads in the sand and "hoping" for the best. I just hope that the Americans don't find themselves leaving and then returning to Iraq in the years to come. I can see it now: 2012 Headline; "Sarah Palin wins the election and troops return to Iraq".

I'll give Bush the credit he's due. If Bush had demonstrated any competence in his authority, but rather poisoned the Republican brand , America's New President™ could not have surmounted the South’s inveterate racism and been elected.

No doubt this is a seminal moment in America’s racial dynamic; however there remains a sizable racist contingent, not coincidently, entrenched in the Christian south, which Bush and the Republicans have consistently exploited.

It indeed takes a certain form of derangement and contortion to equate Bush with Hitler, but no more derangement and contortion than to insinuate that Bush in any way nurtured this moment. At best, Bush was an innocent bystander (like a broken clock, he's bound to be right twice a day. More likely, "the moment" was actually fomented in the efforts to negate the damage left in the wake of ruthless neocon administrations. Bush was a puppet of the failed neocon revolution, but he wore it well.

You idiots!

Bush is not a conservative.

We shall see how Obama responds when he is confronted by events that transcend his version of reality. Bush had 911, response required...

Xenophobe-"I mentioned before that I think BO winning the election is in some part due to the success of GWB's foreign policy."

Don't travel much, huh?

Why don't you apply for a passport and visit some of Bush's foreign successes.

Closing on of the darkest chapters, yet in editorials they are already calling Obama 'Bush Lite'. You will see the 'Change and Hope' BHO campaigned on replaced with the reality that GWB has had to deal with the past 7 years. In 4 or 8 years time, will we be closing yet another 'darkest chapter' in American history, or will they just append it to GWB and still try to blame him for everything?

Apparently 8 years of Clinton rule didn't get them what they hoped for, whatever 'It' is either but that's never mentioned. Estimates of money and equivalents spent on bush hate is in the billions so expect a large hangover from this media victory party later.

Most of the journalists seem to write sophomoric treacle - as if they have challenged themselves to some strange assignment in creative writing, so that if their rhetoric is over the top their words will stand out as the ones that will be quoted for the ages.

I often need a shot of insulin after reading their mellifluous musings.

The vocal segment of the Dems act like schoolyard bullies. They get their way most of the time. In the last election they forced the Republicans to nominate a RINO. Then they bullied the Dems into nominating a Marxist. Having their top picks running for the presidency, they could not lose.

To keep Republicans in line they keep threatening to charge them and tie them up in court. Bullies are good at what they do. But they can be taken down. The only problem is that few conservatives have the stomach for such tactics. Talk radio is the exception, which is why the Dems are pushing for the "fairness doctrine" to silence the nacent vocal right.

The MSM pump Chairman O so high, they will have to work so furiously to make sure he doesn't fall to his certain death from such a precipice.

Bill Stewart;

Bush had Rice and Powell in his cabinet. Refresh my memory. Which President had more blacks in high profile positions than Bush? Half of his closest advisors were black. It sure couldn't have hurt that Americans saw for themselves classy, competant blacks in positions of serious authority. Sorry but your BDS shows through when you ignore that.

Bush knocked off a tyrant who started wars with his neighbours and that ultimately lead to the deaths of close to 2 million of his neighbours. He put close to 3 quarters of a million of his own people into mass graves. He got Kadafy to give up his WMD programs. India became allied to the States. In his principal job as Commander in Chief, there were zero attacks on the American homeland. Contrary to the perceived wisdom that Bush ruined relations with the Muslim world, there are currently only two Middle East countries that are not happily hosting American military bases.

Be specific in your critisisms. Which of those things would you like to see undone?

Bill Stewart;

A post script to my last post. You do realize I hope that in being against Bush's foreign policies that you are in the tent with the most extreme American conservatives like Pat Buchanon.

Joe

It's funny you say that, I was just speaking to an Iraqi that I work with about GWB. He is very thankful to the Americans for a job well done. He tells me that his family back home has opportunities and peace of mind that they never had under Saddam. He is a Shi'a so perhaps a Sunni may have a different opinion.

Oops, must take my own advise: "Don't argue with fools"

So what exactly are you trying to say? That Bush was a success? A recap:

- Tortured people
- Held people in jail for years without charge
- Refused to allow them to hear the evidence against them
- "Goodbye from the world's biggest poluter"
- "Mission accomplished"
- Two wars - mostly failures
- Economy down the shitter
- Deficit out of control, Debt nearly double from when he took office
- 10 million more Americans without healthcare
- American reputation in the trash

I could go on. But you'll just find some way to ignore the facts.

It is truly a great day when the colour of a person's skin does not matter.

By the way, did you notice the president has a darker skin colour?

Yep, it doesn's matter, all right.

I remember a magic moment on September 12, 2001 when George Bush transitioned from politician to leader. The lefties never forgave him for that.

God knows what they'll do to their new guy if such circumstances force him to do the same someday.

John,
Guess what? Chairman O's list of failures after his single four year term is going to be ten times longer. And you know what, you and his blind worshipers will still be all dipshits.
Doug

glasnost - that's a perfect statement of Bush; that he moved from being a politician to being a leader. An incredible leader.

He kept America safe.
He enabled two nations, that's 50 million people, entrapped within dictatorial tribalism to be able to move into freedom and democracy.
He certainly tried to stop the Clinton administration's economic policies of 'mortgages to people who can't afford them' but the Democratic congress refused, and now, we have the result.

Obama's entire career has been a narcissistic focus on himself, a self that he has fictionalized to such an extent (including 2 autobiographies) that I doubt if he knows the difference between fact and fiction.

He has thus moved himself into a manufactured state of existence. Obama is a "Market Product', an industrially manufactured man geared to one end: purchase by the consumer. A brand name; Nike, Tim Horton's, Ford..whatever.

This isn't leadership; this is mass marketing of a manufactured man. Can he move out of this existence as a marketed product - a product of which he is both the creator and the expression? Can he interact directly with reality or only as a product which rests on its purchase by a consumer?

Bush wasn't and isn't a Manufactured Man; he's real and he confronted the unpleasant realities of the ME and Islamic fascism. These were hard and unpopular decisions. Can a Manufactured Man be a leader or can he only function to increase his purchase by the consumer?

"'cause old GWB is tough miss...TOUGH and devilishly sly..."

It's an interesting point... it's not like Hitler would have permitted a Jew or a Negro to become the next head of the German state. Bush's service to the American people is built upon his presumed acceptance of the self-evident truths of the Declaration of Independence.

But making such a point stick in the vitriolic Bush-haters is wasted effort; they have plainly shown an inability to sustain reasonable discourse.

GWB was a christian soldier gentleman...with the absolutely proper amount of pride and humility...we won't see another of his vision courage and ability soon....he invested his honour in his temporal oath as he honoured his oath with our Father who made all things and permits us our dispositions,he very properly valued and cherished the very idea of his own country, was colour blind in his love for the world, only ever did good, and he only killed bad guys.

and best of all as he said..'i don't do nuance'.

ET, Your Manufactered Man anaylsis seems right on to me.

I think that name will stick to the Big O...he is certainly a product of his cheering media, including Hollywood.
Manufactured Man indeed.
Thanks for that ET.

Good Day Ratt; I am also in the "South" and the American citizens i am interacting with, both "Northen" and "Southern" recognize; appreciate; and acknowledge the change established with this presidential inauguration is significant and cultural changing. The only concerns expressed on the change is the fear of a move futher towards government intervention in an indivuduals affairs. This concern is pretty even between "Northern" and "Southern". Cheers;

A rant I sent to a freind.

There are many ways that people and pundits are describing the electing of a
Black president. Nothing seems to be too over the top. One I keep hearing
over and over agian, particularly by youthful celbrities like Oprah and various
journalists is that "I never thought I would see this day in my lifetime
(choke, sniff) ". It is a narrative that many an average joe has picked up
on and are throwing out there to bask in the very deep significance of the
statement.

This one bounced off me a few times before it really struck me for what it
was; an intellectually dishonest peice of propaganda and emotional
masturbation.

Think for a moment what someone who has considered this statement is saying.
And they must have considered it because it is a very profound statement.

They are saying that in their view the USA is such a racist country that
over 50% of the electorate has such hatred for Blacks that they would not
consider voting for one now or in the next 30 or 40 years regardless of
their qualifications, based simply on skin color only. Can someone point
me to any kind of evidence that would support such a radical assertation?
This may describe a very, very small part of the electorate , but more than
50%.?

Consider as well the positions of prestige and power that blacks have in the
US. They include a black female as secretary of state, a past black sec
state and chairman of the joint cheifs of staff, black generals, black
mayors, black governors, black senators, black CEOs and black athletes that
make millions of dollars. How could any of them possibly attain these
positions of authority and influence if America were a racist nation?

About the only job a black has not held has been the office of the President
(and Veep) but consider who has been offered up as potential candidates.
Professional race baiters Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton? Lets be
realistic. Neither of these guys was remotely electable.

So when a black man that is, well spoken and politcally and media savvy, or
otherwise known as electable, throws his hat in the ring what happens? He
gets elected. The very first electable black man to run for high office won
in his first attempt at the Presidency.

So for so many to say that they never thought they would see this moment in
their lifetime, I say shame on you. It is not America that is biased
bigoted or racist, it is you who would lump more than half the population of
America together as intollerant racists, that has a sick outlook.

That, or these very media/message savvy individuals are being
intellectually dishonest and are trying to create even more significance and
hype to an already over hyped happening. If it supposedly was never
expected to happen in said individuals lifetime, that it did must mean that
this particular individual Barrack Obama must truly be a miracle man to have
overcome such impossible odds.

So what is reality? That the majority of the population is virulently
racist in AmeriKKKa? Or that the same media and celebrities that have over
agrandized Obama from the very beginning are continueing to do so to further
add to the mythic creation that is Barrack Obama.

How about a little intellectual exercise to those who disagreed with Bush going to Iraq. It is afterall what most take exception to him with. If you had a magic wand and could make it so that the invasion of Iraq never happened, would you?

Now before you answer too quickly, it would mean Saddam was back. The number of buried in his mass graves would be at the roughtly three quarters of a million who have been discovered so far AND CLIMBING with no end in sight. That okay with you?

While there are different estimates floating around, one could reasonably say that the deaths of 3 million, including his own that he killed and buried, can be laid at his feet. There was at least a million dead on each side in the Iran Iraq war.

Tap the numbers into your calculators. It means that roughly 280 people were dying under Saddam each and every day for 27 years. If you wave your wand that's how many you have to add each day going forward.

On the other hand, if you take the high end of reasonable estimtes of the war in Iraq, 250,000 have died in 6 years. Save the batteries in your calculators, that works out to about 114 per day, only 40% of the Saddam total. Adding in the fact that the surge has helped turn the corner and reduced killing to a mere fraction of that number compared to what was going on a year or two ago.

In other words, you can't just pass judgement of the consequences of something someone's done in isolation of what the possible and/or likely consequences of NOT having done it.

So there's the question before you wave your wands. How many more people are you comfortable seeing added to the mass graves by Saddam?

In a way I feel sorry for Obama.

There are so many expectations placed on him to straighten out things each individual can straighten out by himself that there is sure to be disappointment.

The message of individual responsibility in his inaguration speech is sure to put the loony left into a tailspin, as is his invocation of God.

I predicted it would take six months before the rabble turn on him. Now, I'm thinking it could be quicker.

The great Martin Luther King said, "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

Obama and his friends love bringing that quote up. But here's my question:

If we are truly at that day like they say we are, shouldn't that mean that Obama lost the election?

You know, they looked at color, disregarded it, and voted for the most qualified and best candidate?

America ain't quite there yet.

I have no sympathy for a president whose expectations were introduced as campaign promises.

bob

You forgot to mention the Democrats and Republicans almost unanimously voted to invade Iraq. This seems to be the most overlooked fact of all.

Would someone like to suggest that if Gore won the election the Americans would not have invaded Iraq?

Here is a list of Democrats who voted "yes" to the Iraq invasion:

Baucus (D-MT)
Bayh (D-IN)
Biden (D-DE)***
Breaux (D-LA)
Cantwell (D-WA)
Carnahan (D-MO)
Carper (D-DE)
Cleland (D-GA)
Clinton (D-NY)***
Daschle (D-SD)
Dodd (D-CT)***
Dorgan (D-ND)
Edwards (D-NC)***

It is fortunate for p**sies like you that you can slander ppl without fear of repercussions. Had you said that to my face you'd be looking for a frozen steak right now, and I'd probably be boinking your woman. That being said, I'm sure someone has done both already because your type is the antithesis of masculinity.

Well-said, bob c at January 22, 2009 12:43 PM

The Barack honeymoon (I'm sorry, I DO like Obama, but the media spectacle was a BIT much) won't end soon due to media swooning.

Remember, the MSM creates it's own world and foists it on the rest of us.

Ward at 2:13. You helped clarify a little thought rolling around the back of my head.. We've heard so much about how The Blacks came out to vote BECAUSE there was a black candidate. Now who are really the racists?

Kate, thanks for removing my double post, couldn't you have removed the one with the spelling error? Arghh wink, wink.

ulianov, are you suggesting that US troops *shouldn't* leave Iraq, never should have been there in the first place or the US has no business whatsoever in the middle east.

Do you think that America's various and vast carrier fleets should be mothballed?

Do you think that America is a force of evil in the world, or is it just the most convenient, non-threatening "establishment" to rail against?

Leftists are most often bullies biting the hands that feed them. The worst are passive-agressive pussies.

re John @ 1:02
Why do some people insist on continuing the lie re Americans without "Health Care"?

The estimate of Americans without "Health Insurance" have remained constant at 47 million for decades (NOT increasing by 10 million in the past 8 years).

Lack of health insurance does not equate to lack of health care. First there are 2 million Americans in the armed services plus their dependents. They do not have health insurance but they have first rate health care from their employer (Army/USN/USAF). Second, there are 2 million Yanks in various state and federal prisons without health insurance but they do have health care. Third, their are many very wealthy Americans for whom insurance is not required. Any insurance is for the people who can afford premiums but not the item being insured. Do you think Warren Buffet would fret about cost if he needed a $500,000 surgery and he did not have insurance? Finally, even uninsured Americans who can afford the occasional visit to the doctor from their income (much like many Canadians who do not have dental care insurance) receive emergency accident care at EVERY hospital (it's a federal law in the USA). Also be advised the US federal and state governments spend more absolute (not per capita) dollars on Medicare and Medicaid each year than our governments.

Yes their are many Americans who do not have health insurance and will be bankrupt by $100,000 surgeries but do not exaggerate the problem in order to find the solution.

Norm Matthew at January 22, 2009 3:34 PM, thanks for the input on health insurance in the US, it's a good counter to shrill progressives like John @ 1:02, but remember their credo is "don't confuse me with facts, my mind's made up".

Dick Morris last night on Bill O'Reilly summed up quite clearly what Obama has in the works for the USA.

Obama is a Marxist at heart, if he manages to get Canadian style health care in place, gets the banking system nationalized and gets enough of the lower and middle classes dependent on government largesse, he will have trans formed the United States into a socialist country, never to recover to its former free independent nature.
Never again to be a world leader, but North American version of Germany,France,Spain and sadly even Great Britain as they are today, with sharia law in chokehold ascendency.
History may well show GW Bush as the last truly individual Freedom espousing President of the United States.

You know what that 47 million number actually is? It is the number of Americans who passed a midnight during the year without coverage. That's right. It's not a constant pool of people, and at no given time are there 47 million people in it. It is a summation of the people over a year who are without health insurance for at least a day.

Obama is a Marxist at heart, if he manages to get Canadian style health care in place...

Maybe by that time Canada will have moved to a two-tier system, and doctors will be comming back.

"They voted "yes" to the Iraq invasion because they were lied to." -ulinov

Define "lie" in this context. Did Bush say something that pretty much every leader in the Western world did not believe to be true based on their own intelligence assessments? Did Bush say something he knew not to be true? That is the normal definition of lie. Or was he apparently mistaken?

I would like you to list the single most egregious Bush lie here. It has to be a quote, in his words, from a news source that checks their facts.

I don't think you can do it.

Here, I will spot you an example of a lie. Something said by somebody who knew, at the time he said it, that it wasn't true.

"Ayers was just some guy in the neighborhood." - Barack Obama.

There is one Obama lie to your none for Bush, so far.

Tim in VT: The MSM loves statistics it prefers.

As it has become evident so far, the MSM cherry-picks what gets reported.

Hard to blame them though - If I was a back-biting, resentful, mental midget with no balls, crowd-following, self-entitled moron I'd be the same way.

I promise to treat Obama with all the respect that the political left gave George W Bush.

Although I will never go as low as wishing for his assassination.

That is liberal territory.

Saint Obama - it will eventually come out - is not a US born citizen.

Saint Obama - it will eventually come out - is deadset against large swaths of the American Constitution.

Saint Obama - it will eventually be revealed - is as corrupt (probably MORE so) than any of his predecessors.

Saint Obama - it will eventually be reralized - is just another product of corrupt Chicago politics.

Pete Townsend said it best before Saint Obama was born! "Meet the new boss / Same as the old boss!"

People got fooled again! But apparently being taken in by a black liar/sleazebag is not NEARLY as compromising to one's personal profile as being taken in by a caucasian lowlife.

In my decades on the globe, I have discovered that a lowlife is a lowlife, regardless of her/his skin color.

Meet Saint Obama and his lopwlife bee-atch Michelle! Hang on tight! It's gonna be a helluva ride!
