Juxtapose!

On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics. We remain a young nation, but in the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things.

  1. Irene,
I’ve finished soaking my head. My opinions are unchanged. I understand a person rises through worth and work. I also know that up until a few years ago blacks were only given the crappiest of jobs and denied the education to prove their worth.
Just remember how blacks arrived in America. White slavers abducting them from their land; shipped to America in utterly despicable conditions; sold to the highest bidder only to be beaten raw, raped, victimized then relegated to an early grave. For what? Cheap labour and to feed white sadistic tendencies.
Abraham Lincoln ended slavery not Bush and Co.

  2. Stirred – You really need a history lesson. You obviously have no idea who was running the slave trade and only a sketchy version of who profited by it. Hint. Not all white people or their ancestors owned slaves. Many worked against this terrible practice. Besides, although white people didn’t invent slavery, whatever you say, they spilled their blood and did put an end to it. It wasn’t only Lincoln, there was a civil war, you nitwit.

  3. “I understand a person rises through worth and work. I also know that up until a few years ago blacks were only given the crappiest of jobs and denied the education to prove their worth.”
So what’s their excuse NOW? Why have some blacks risen to success while others haven’t? Why are unsuccessful blacks held to a different standard than unsuccessful whites?
“Just remember how blacks arrived in America. White slavers abducting them from their land; shipped to America in utterly despicable conditions; sold to the highest bidder only to be beaten raw, raped, victimized then relegated to an early grave.”
How does this affect what a black youth, fresh into high school, plans for their future education and work endeavors? How does this affect the practice of a good work ethic and the importance of wise life choices? Those values aren’t class or race specific are they?

  4. Bill D. Cat,
    Interesting video!
And those are the people who say they care about the planet while we conservatives don’t?
Those are the people who voted for Obama because as a good liberal he supposedely cares about the planet more than Republicans do?
But people who admire Obama and had to be there in person at the inauguration because it was a historic moment have littered the place as if it was a dump!!!
    This is worth repeating,
They have littered this historic place as if it was a dump!!!
    They are all hypocrites…or idiots…or both…

  5. h.ryan “but the only reason I hear supporting these claims are because of his skin color” I think Obama’s appeal goes deeper than that. He has been able to motivate crowds. On its own, gaining the good will of and generating excitement among large numbers of people is a significant accomplishment. Now, the next thing would be to lead them in a positive direction, but we don’t know enough about Obama to know what his next steps will be. I think it is too soon for anyone to be definitive about what kind of a leader he will be.

  6. Jim: “I know it is not nice to wish harm to people but the sad truth is that when people like Teddy Kennedy are dead and gone, the world becomes a better place.” — If I were you, I would think twice before making such judgments about other people. You may not like Teddy Kennedy for whatever reason, but like all of us, he would have done both good and ill in his life. Even as as Senator, I do not see that he has been worse than many others. We live in an imperfect world — but wishing for another’s demise only makes it that much worse.

  7. Gen. Colin Powell, former Chief of Defense Staff, and History Prof. Condileeza Rice were appointed to the highest profile Cabinet position, Secretary of State, where they became both to Americans and to others as the representative of the U.S.A.
George W. Bush made those appointments. The American people became accustomed to intelligent, well educated black people in leadership roles. But partisan MSM blinded by political bias ignore the obvious and thus continue to undermine their own credibility.

  8. Dispite some of the commentary above, what has struck me has been the good grace of the conservative side in offering best wishes to B.H. Obama. Can anyone recall a similar reaction from the left upon Bush’s ascension. No, quite the opposite. Little but ungracious vitriol. I do declare that these good manners are one of the reasons I am a conservative.

  9. A message so important it bears repeating. Repeating. Repeating. Call back in 4 or 8 years and we’ll talk.

  10. stirred….
try to get over it…and if you can’t then at least place the ‘blame’ where it is more appropriate…..for eg. Cuba brought in more slaves than ALL of north america….shouldn’t you realistically be directing your ire Castrowards ?
slavery existed for thousands of years before whitey got very briefly involved in the business…….and remember whitey’s accomplices were arab and african powers….who by the way STILL practice slavery.

  11. There’s one thing I take away from the hand-over of power, the Bush family were gracious and showed a lot of class.
I’d hope Obama would be embarrassed by having a supporter thumbing his nose at the outgoing President. He has a very small mind and probably has no sense of decency.

You could say the exact same thing about Pierre Trudeau or a certain Austrian socialist back in the 1930s.
“Now, the next thing would be to lead them in a positive direction, but we don’t know enough about Obama to know what his next steps will be. I think it is too soon for anyone to be definitive about what kind of a leader he will be.”

I think I know plenty about Obama.
I know Obama sat in Jeremiah Wright’s Hate Whitey Community Church for 20 years, was married there, and had his children baptized there.
I know Obama was part of the groundbreaking legal team that organized community lawsuits in Chicago to sue Citigroup’s banks to force them to give subprime loans in the 1990s.
I know that Obama is a close friend of Weatherman Bill Ayers who is a Homegrown American terrorist.
I know that Obama won his first election by having his opponents thrown out of the race.
    Todd Spivak of HoustonPress.com
How Obama won his first Illinois election:
He was just 35 when in 1996 he won his first bid for
political office. Even many of his staunchest supporters, such as
Black, still resent the strong-arm tactics Obama employed to win his
    seat in the Illinois Legislature.
Obama hired fellow Harvard Law alum and election law expert Thomas
Johnson to challenge the nominating petitions of four other candidates,
including the popular incumbent, Alice Palmer, a liberal activist who
had held the seat for several years, according to an April 2007 Chicago
    Tribune report.
Obama found enough flaws in the petition sheets — to appear on the
ballot, candidates needed 757 signatures from registered voters living
within the district — to knock off all the other Democratic
contenders. He won the seat unopposed.

(This from a man whose birth certificate has never seen the light of day)
I know that Obama’s campaign organizers turned off the security features on their credit card donation services to allow illegal campaign donations.
I know that Michelle Obama got a sweetheart job at a Hospital for $400K/annum after Obama earmarked the Hospital in a bill he promoted.
(now that Michelle is First Lady that particular job no longer exists at that Hospital)
some people, the folks who are investigating Rod Blagojevich, would call that a kickback…
LindaL, I think you can guess where someone will go next from watching the road they’ve been traveling and who they’re fellow travellers have been.

  13. “If I were a black person in America I’d be giving ‘whitey’ the 4 finger and thumb nose salute too!
The largely conservative white establishment has been f**king over blacks and middle class America far too long. Their day of reckoning has come and it looks good on them.”

How come he was not able to inspire his crowd of worshipers – you know the “we care about the planet and you don’t” crowd – to not litter the “historical site as if it was a dump???
YOU MUST WATCH THE VIDEO and then tell us how motivated the Obama worshipers were to pick up after themselves

  15. Just like the indians in Canada, there is a greater number of blacks in jail in the US.
Supposedly we (whites, blacks, indians, yellows etc) are all equal so why is it that more of them are in jail. We are all supposed to abide by the same rules, are we not?
Could it be that they don’t abide by those rules.
    Just wondering?

  16. stirred, your head still needs some soaking I guess, because you forget the “now” part of my comments. Yes, black people in the past did have a rough time of it, but what I really dont hate to tell you is this: So did the Irish, the Jewish, the Chinese, the Germans and many other races, whether they were visible or invisible minorities. But the crazy part is that I dont hear any other ethnicity snivel because their ancestors (NOT them personally, not their generation, not even their parents) suffered. Remember how some White people came here? Some were refugees, escaping poverty, war, oppression; some were criminals (remember how Australia was populated, stealing bread was a banishable offence) and many were treated as less than human when they came over the ocean to their new homes because they committed the crime of being Irish or Jewish.
Not all Black people came to America as slaves, just as not all White people were slave owners, and Black youths in North America know NOTHING of oppression when compared to their ancestors (assuming that their ancestors were slaves) and therefore have no right to blame their White peers. The problems nowadays which youth suffer from are a direct result of terrible choices and a refusal to accept responsibility for those choices (ie. Dropping out of school, Taking part in baby making before getting married and finishing high school, spending time on the streets instead of getting a job, whining about how its the white man’s fault that they made stupid choices)
If you honestly think that your white neighbor is a horrible person because of something in his ancestor’s past that may or may not have happened (see my comment about how not all white people owned slaves), then give your head a shake, because odds are that no matter what his ancestors did, he’s a good person and assumes more guilt than he deserves all because of whiners who think they’re entitled to place blame rather than accept it.
Sorry about the rant, but I also pray that racism disappears thanks to Obama, but with people like stirred around, I’m not going to hold my breath on it.

  17. Irene Swain
I could list quite a few things that I could blame failure on, including racism, but I didn’t fail, even tho I’m dyslexic and from a dysfunctional home. The reason I didn’t fail, my country (I’m an immigrant who calls Canada home)afforded me the opportunity to succeed, so I worked hard and succeeded.

  18. Why be sorry, Irene? What you say is dead on.
Barbara Kay has a very fine article in today’s National Post, which explores the same theme.
Wouldn’t it be nice . . . if we really were colour blind? E.g., ‘Stopped blaming whitey, who has tremendously advanced civilization (though we’re now on a downward cycle/spiral), which has allowed huge advantages for all the victim groups who cast blame on the white race. I’m thoroughly tired of such blatant exploitation (of the good things, with no appreciation) and hypocrisy.
I asked a young, well dressed black man recently, “If you don’t think Canada’s a good place to live for a black person, how about living in Africa?” He said that would be OK. I said, “Zimbabwe, Sudan, Nigeria?” “Fine”, he replied. Such magic thinking, which Obama and his equally magic thinking supporters—including a close family member, who couldn’t discuss politics intelligently or knowledgeably for two seconds—is epidemic among the “black is better” crowd. I challenge these illusionists to spend even a few minutes in a classroom with some of these entitled, but undeserving, and often totally uncivilized and bullying black folks. (I believe that most blacks are productive citizens. However, many are not and they expect—and are too often given—a free ride, generally, to not a very good place, because they’ve made atrocious choices, and not because “whitey” has forced them to.)
I fear that the adult toddler inmates are now in charge of the US political asylum: such immature elitists have been in charge of most Canadian institutions for decades and, in government here while the LIEberals were in charge. This is very bad news for all of us, including the left wing elitists. (Think toddlers, happy that they’ve slipped the bonds of their parents and can now play in the street! Then, as Dion might say, “Bam!”)

  19. Charles Adler had Lorne Gunter and Jed Babin on his show today, comparing Barack Obama’s speeches with those of Chance the Gardener. For those who don’t know this fictional character, I’ve elaborated on it all here. A year from now, it will be interesting to see precisely what Obama’s “substance” consists of!

  20. “Ah yes. Continue to blame conservative whitey for the negative consequences of decisions made by black individuals. God forbid that they are held accountable for their actions. God forbid that a person, of any color, has to WORK towards their successes and not have it handed to them on a silver platter.”
Well, actually… conservative whiteys did in fact pooch things pretty badly, making blacks their slaves and all. And then fighting against every gain blacks have made.
Nobody has ever said people don’t need to work. That’s a conservative lie you suck up, because it supports your narrative.
The only people who’ve ever had anything handed to them on a silver platter were rich whites, and the platter was probably held by a black slave.
I now return you to believing that things were good under Bush.

  21. “…The only people who’ve ever had anything handed to them on a silver platter were rich whites…”
    —John
Rich whites represent about 3% of white people…so what is your point?

  22. Bull apples by Barrak Obama should be the name of that speech. Like my granny used to say; They lie like rugs.

  23. All leftists whether Lib, NDP or Democrat behave exactly like children, the nasty bullying kind who go running to tattle when they’re served even a fraction of what they’ve dished out.
When they don’t get their own way, they are on permanent whine and tantrum. The Clinton crew trashed the White House like juvenile delinquent high schoolers. For 8 years there has been non-stop whining from the Left with no limit to how low they’ll sink in criticizing their opponents as the comparison of Bush to the mass murderer of 6 million demonstrates. They are truly unhinged in their hatred.
When they do get their own way, they are the most ungracious winners of all time.
They cannot argue their points as adults. Like vicious children who cannot refute anything with evidence, they call their opponent names, repeat their already refuted points and shout down the opposition. On university campuses, they try to prevent conservatives from speaking by threatening, throwing pies, drowning out the speaker with heckling, physically jostling him. This shameless behavior has never been displayed by conservative students toward a leftist speaker and lord knows they have plenty more opportunity since the vast majority invited are leftists.
Leftists share the magical thinking of children, that problems will be solved by a Magic Fairy who has a bottomless pit of money. They shirk hard unpopular decisions. The day a lefty proposes something unpopular and difficult will never come.
Their lies are not clever but primitive like kids who deny they’re stealing cookies even when caught with their hand in the cookie jar (or wad of cash in their refrigerator). Actually lefties believe it is their right to help themselves while throwing tax money around to get elected and none shall call it corruption.
Thanks to marxist control of education from kindergarten through university and the media-entertainment conglomerate, there are enough child-like thinkers now to outvote the shrinking pool of adults. This process cannot be reversed.
There will be a steady decline in the American standard of living as lefties feed their followers the ice cream they demand until the nausea and pain start.

  24. Well said, kivi!
I have to admit that I share your pessimism: as lefty Western societies become more and more like dysfunctional Third World countries by the minute, even if we wanted to reverse the downward spiral, there aren’t enough truly civic minded among us to do it: Western societies are turning out far more sows’ ears than silk purses and we know, magic thinking aside, that one can’t turn those ears into silk purses. Things are looking pretty bad . . .

  25. Rice and Powell were given important posts in government because they are bright and capable people who happen to be black. The big lie from the Left is that Right thinking people are big racists when in fact the Left has been doing little to raise up minorities so they can continue to tell them that they are being oppressed by white people on the Right. Its as plain as the nose on your face.
No other President – and certainly Slick Willie included – has done more for black Africans than GWB. Racism anyone, anyone? What did Cigar Bill or Smiling Jimmy do? Squat!

  26. “Well, actually… conservative whiteys did in fact pooch things pretty badly, making blacks their slaves and all”
    Johnny boy,
You do realize that the Democrts were the party of slavery don’t you?

  27. I remember when Snow died and comments where made that it was a good thing.
The people on this site jumped on it and claimed the moral high ground.
Jim makes a comment about kennedy that is disgusting too and I hear nothing but crickets (except Linda) What a pack of hypocrites. It is only wrong when it is the guy you like. It had nothing to do with your fake moral fiber.
PS: I would like to know Kate’s source for this picture. I bet that it is a fake but that would require research and Kate knows it is just easier to wind some of you fools up.

  28. My apologizes kate it is an LA times photo but the question I ask is what is the context? He could just be clowning around with Obama’s kids for all we know.
I would highly doubt it is intended at a political opponent. If it did Faux news would be all over it.

“The only people who’ve ever had anything handed to them on a silver platter were rich whites, and the platter was probably held by a black slave”
So what’s your problem with poor whites? Oh that’s right they probably all look the same to you.

  30. A wag once said “If you want a friend, get a dog. If you want a dog, get Rahm Emanuel”
He is a definite contrast to Obama’s calm demeanor.
From the NYT [his nose-thumbing was to former House colleagues]
[Rahm Emanuel] is not accustomed to fading discreetly into the background. As a staff member in the Clinton White House, a three-term House member from Chicago and the chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, he was viewed by many as a consummate purveyor of a crass, kneecapping brand of politics.
Mr. Obama acknowledged as much at a 2005 roast for Mr. Emanuel, who is a former ballet dancer, during which Mr. Obama credited him with being “the first to adapt Machiavelli’s ‘The Prince’ for dance” (a number that included “a lot of kicks below the waist”). When Mr. Emanuel lost part of his middle finger while cutting meat at an Arby’s as a teenager, Mr. Obama joked, the accident “rendered him practically mute.”
