"Okay, I've voted for ace every day so far, and I can't undo what I have done, so can you forgive me if I vote for you the rest of the time?
Nonetheless, Ace clawed his way back into the lead yesterday using the oldest bait on the hook - cheerleaders. (And no, you don't get that link.)
Well, Saskatchewan has cheerleaders, too.
Note: the still form on the field is the opposing team's quarterback.
To spare the viewing audience, the tape ends there. I have nothing else to add, except to say that I trust Ace will exhibit better judgment in the future.
Now, on to the serious business...
Across the blogosphere, the endorsements keep rolling in - most notably from Best Science nominee, Watts Up With That and my "blog father" James Joyner. Outside The Beltway is the first blog I happened upon, and it's safe to say SDA wouldn't be here today had it not been for James' inspiration and support. He's nominated in the Best Major Blog category, lets give him a lift if we can.
Ezra Levant is leading the Canadian category and has kindly endorsed SDA, as have a number of other Canadian blogs including Climate Audit (also in the running for Best Science Blog) - thank you all!
The Middle East blog category is especially notable this year - Michael Totten is currently remaining ahead of the execreble Juan Cole. Help keep it that way!
My other personal picks - Best Blog - I'm going with Hot Air this year.
Best Individual Blogger - The Anchoress.
Best Humor - Mother May I Sleep With Treacher
And for Best Culture Blog - SondraK
Voting ends Tuesday at 5pm Eastern. There's still time for a surge.
Now to get Riderville in on the action....
Update - More support from across the Commonwealth!
(Besides, we have the nicer flag.)

If you're going to pull this out, you will need to deliver some hope and some change voters can believe in.
Ya, what Texan said Kate. I'm a Leafs fan and if you don't give me HOPE and CHANGE I don't know what I'm going to do. I'm might just end up buying another pair of season tickets to see my team keep losing.
Je me souviens 1967! (even though it was almost 20 years before I was born)
Is there any truth to the rumor that all of Ace's cheerleaders answer to the name SUUUIIIEEE?
Wouldn't be the first time nasty untrue statements flowed across the internet you know. I thought it best to put the rumor to rest before the MythBusters try some fantastic experiment to prove the veracity of unfounded tripe.
The sad thing is Ace still believes he has a chance.
I have a feeling this year's awards will bring about a big boost in sda traffic.
"And no, you don't get that link"
Good thing one can display their browser history in a sidebar!
Some Australian votes sent your way too: http://margosmaid.blogspot.com/2009/01/how-to-think-and-then-what-to-do.html
You can rely on some Commonwealth support when it counts!
"Well, Saskatchewan has cheerleaders, too."
Eeeeeewww...there are males (no I won't refer to them as men) in amongst them! That's an infraction right there!
Just re-voted for SDA. Chicago Voting Rules-"vote early and vote often!"
As of 2:30 AM EST, it's Ace of Spades 10,996-25.4% and SDA 10,636-24.6%.
C'mon SDA Surfers, get off your butts and vote! We can still pull this off for Our Gal Kate! :-)
Votes, will post at my site in the morning...Stubble jumpers rock (and I say that married to a gal from Biggar who can, in fact, field dress that deer.)
SDA's chances aren't helped by the Interior Health idiosyncratic web blocking policies. I've had no problem accessing SDA from hospital computers (on those very rare moments when I actually have a chance to sit down and relax while I'm there) but when I tried to vote for SDA in the weblog awards I got a screen telling me that site was blocked. No explanation so I had to wait till I got home so I could vote for SDA.
You're getting my endorsement too, good luck
Kate,
You should not allow Ace to post on this Site. PLL like me will Click on anything without reading and as I found out YOU VOTED FOR ACE if you clicked on his posting.
We are the illiterate ones that have never read a "how to do" manual!
Why should we vote for you Kate. This place is hardly what I would call the "best blog", even of 2008.
I am not even talking about your views, just the fact that most of your posts are crosslinks of other people's stuff, and that most of the content is generated by commentators.
I dunno. I have yet to be impressed.

What the heck were you expecting Jane? The catagories are pretty general, partially because blogs are a personal thing. Should Kathy of Five Feet of Fury be allowed if she doesn't allow comments? Should the best photo blog go to someone who surfs the net and posts other people's work instead of their own? How about the video catagory where some sites are just America's Funniest Videos spawn?
Kate brings up items and topics that are of interest to her and a lot of readers and starts off the discussion and or debate. There are always items that you will seldom, if ever, find on the CBC/CTV. That is why I come here daily, to become informed and to give my comments on occassion.
If you don't like it, don't come here. Simple as that.
Jane just wants some Hope & Change. It's tough to win votes in certain circles without offering it.
That's right texan.
I had posted another comment, but seems it has been withheld.
Things here only get withheld when you use "trigger" words or phrases that are set up to keep spam and such off the blog.(Read & heed the blue lines of text under "Post a comment".
Kate goes through the filter once in a while and clears ones that have been caught in error. This is a lot different than moderated sites that decide what goes up before it gets posted.
Thanks for the nod! I appreciate it.
...most of the content is generated by commentators.
I don't get it; is it a lecture you want?
The best blogs are topic and comment aggregators, not endless, mindless drivel a la Kinsella or so many others. Kate sets the tone and picks the topics - the rest of the world simply runs with it.
Jane, you're permitted here to have your own opinion, not just Kate's. Kate doesn't speak for you either, unless you let her.
I can't imagine how much rage Lloyd Robertson generates in people like Jane...
Kate's site is far, far more than just a link-poster.
She often has analysis and asks pointed questions and demands accountability of public figures in her posts.
Tell me - does Drudge do that ?
Does Bourque ?
It takes time and brains to run an in-depth blog.
Kate also leaves years of archives up. Check them out - her track record is impeccable !!
Go back 3 or 4 years. Compare Kate's stand to major media Editors fluff. Who was right back then and who is right on; Iraq, Saddam, Global Warming, Islam, Dion, Martin, CHRC, the Liberal's moral hazard fiasco, ...
LOL. I dutifully looked at the inert qb, and then youtube shows you a lineup of little boxes. Click on the one for Bombers v Raiders Cheerleaders.

Kate, the weblog website won't load for me today. I hope it is being overwhelmed by all your supporters and not just a denial of service attack by your opponents.
Got through just fine. You are now just over 200 votes behind so I guess it is your supporters overwhelming the site.
Post by: CanadianKate; that is what I have been receiving to and it would not let me vote today when I did get on, after 10 try's.
As of 1:11 PM EST, with 45,035 total votes cast, it's:
Ace of Spades 11,486 votes/25.5%
SDA 11,235 votes/24.9%
C'mon you Neo-Cons! VOTE!
Margo's Maid? Jim Treacher? The big guns of the blogniscenti have spoken. In a just world, this would be a done deal.
Weblogs site seems to be down and my 24 hours is timed to vote today and tomorrow at this time. Now I am off to work and will only be able to cast one more vote for SDA - I will protest to weblogs and see if the voting can be extended by 24 hours.
Hey, at 5:55 p.m. Ace of Spades is at 25.1% and SDA's at 25%.
Almost whoopee!!
Hmmm ... SDA's clock is three minutes behind my computer's ...
I hope the Weblog Awards' clock is accurate ...
I just tried to log onto the 2008 Web Log Awards Web Site, and this is the message I got:
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.
I AM definitely connected to the Internet.
I highlighted and cut and pasted the Web site address from Google, so I can't imagine there's an error in the typing of the address.
The Web Site MUST be encountering problems.
Is that Kosher when there are only two days left to vote?
Also had difficulty loading the site and I use firefox. Had to refresh as the inside menu box would not display. But kept trying...
Just voted and it was 25.0 Kate and 25.1 Ace.
Neck and neck I'd say.
Now it's 25.1% to 25.1%: more neck and neck than at 6:49.
Go, Kate, Go!!
Hi Kate,
After trying several times today I finally was able to vote. Imagine my surprise when this came up:

It's up to the rest of you now, godspeed, and throw a little love to voting for Watts Up With That as Best Science Blog

Ahead by two. Yeah...
Ahead by one (1)vote! My word...
