CTV - "Never let the facts get in the way of a big scary story".

Reading comprhension Jim...... I was lost as to why the Arctic icecap was getting smaller in winter....... LOL

Makes much more sense now!! /grin

I will blame it on a frozen brain box after spending the last hour plus clearing a foot of snow from drive ways and walk ways.

Does CTV realize how silly they sound when spreading this kind of nonsense? Do they even care or are they just too lazy to chase real news stories?

The last sentence pretty well sums it up for me. Waiting for Obama to save the climate.

Guess who's stuck outside, right in front of my house? A city snow plow, the poor guy has been there for a half hour and he can't get out. I'm in kind of an open area where the snow really builds up. I've lived here for 26 years and that's never happened before.

Likewise Ghost of Ed; Never seen this much snow in Southern Ontario before Christmas.

The scary part is the inference that waiting three weeks for Obama's inauguration may be the tipping point between the end of the world and his ability to STOP this now!

Ya got that right dp. Just wait another month and bingo! no more bogus media stories about ice sheets melting, oceans rising, etc. Just peace and light.

My mind's made up! Now don't confuse me with the facts!

Don't worry. The cultists will just roll with this. As a true believer said to me awhile ago "Did you know that global warming will cause an ice age?" Seriously. You can't make this stuff up. Cult like all the way. A classic closed system argument, immune from falsification.

Somebody please stick a fork in CTV and the rest of the "We're All Gonna Die" media, they are so over the top and pathetic with this never ending hoax, are they to stupid to see what all this Kyoto/ global warming crap has done to the Eurosnots. Give it up idiots, it is not happening!

Stopping by my usual haunts this week to wish everyone the best this holiday season and in the coming year.. and encouraging anyone who can to help someone else less fortunate.. I've donated $100 to a local foodbank today - pay it forward if you can..

Shalom!

I've forgotten, do we want it colder or warmer?

this is the most disturbing news since the "Day after Tomorrow " showed that global warming would cause an arctic super cell, kill off all of Canada , half the USA , and the hero would spend his unselfish time saving one of his own spawn in New York. and it all happened in a week. including rising sea levels.

actually the only really good part was seeing Hollywood get smashed by the tornadoes.

The Lonnie Thompson quoted in the article is the same Lonnie Thompson who refuses to release any of his raw data for outside scrutiny. He is a member of what Steve McIntyre calls the "hockey team", a group that refuses to let the fraudulent quackery of temperature reconstruction from tree rings. McIntyre and McKitrick broke the hockey stick over their heads, but the huckstering hacks like Mann, Schmidt, and Hansen and their poilitical enablers continue this quest to reorder the world to suit themselves.

The Mawson's Huts Foundation Expedition is currently trying to get ashore at Cape Denison but the poor weather conditions are keeping them from reaching their goal...

One of the team members who was part of last year's conservation effort has commented that the ice pack is heavier this year and conditions appear less than favourable for completing the archeological tasks planned.

Neither, they obviously want it to stay exactly as it is now, because this is obviously the absolutely perfect climate.

Hmm the PEW eh. who is this guy? Another Earth Scientist with a doctorate obtained by using USPS

Britain and Europe are about to get a blast of severe cold weather.

IN response, I'm setting up a Solar Output Change Hedge Fund, and am willing to sell rights to setting up derivatives. Consider it a carbon offset offset. Feel free to send me money. Preferably Irish currency. Thanks.

If you have not seen this episode, I highly recommend it.

South Park episode 908

Two Days Before the Day After Tomorrow

http://www.southparkstuff.com/season_9/episode_908/

Just out on CTV. Rather than celebrate Xmas in frigid snowbound Chicago, the chief global warming hypocrite and entourage are spending the festive season toughing it out at an exclusive enclave in sunny Hawaii. Kinda puts a whole new spin on climate change.

Obama's Hawaii junket also on Drudge via NY Post.

In a related note:

"Last weekend, that heroically diligent US meteorologist Anthony Watts noticed that something very odd had happened to the daily updated graph on the official Nansen website that shows how much sea-ice there is in the Arctic. Without explanation, as he reported on his Watts Up With That website, half a million square kilometres of ice simply vanished overnight.

This might have brought cheer to all those, such as Al Gore and the BBC, who have been obsessively telling us that the Arctic ice will soon disappear altogether. They were dismayed enough last winter when, after reaching its lowest point in 30 years, the ice bounded back to near "normal". This winter the freeze has been even faster and greater, making the extent of the ice, according to the other main Arctic website, Crysophere Today, 500,000 sq km greater than this time last year. How better to maintain the chosen narrative than to lose that half-million square kilometres simply by "adjusting" the graph downwards?"

Plow update. After almost 6 hours, that poor snow plow operator is out, with the help of a huge tow truck. You know, the kind they use for towing semis. Those guys deserve a medal.
The front of my property looks like a battle zone now. But I don't blame the driver or the tow truck. I blame that damn global warming. If it hadn't been for that evil AGW we probably wouldn't have any snow.
By the way, Weasther Guy Phillips has just announced there will be a White Christmas (he shouldn't call it that) right across Canada for the first time in 40 years.

Note that the Wilkens is estimated to be only 1000 years old, maybe a bit more. That is not very old and suggests that the Wilkens may not have been around during the Medieval Warm period.

From the CTV piece,

...Earlier this year, scientists were caught off guard when a chunk of the ice shelf roughly the same size as Manhattan collapsed suddenly.

Since we have only had the technology to observe and measure these "chunk of ice the size of Manhattan collpase" for a few decades
- NO ONE - could observe this before.

It does not mean it was not happening before, we just were not able to see it.

Understand that only 80 years ago or so people were DYING trying to go to the North pole.
We did not have airplanes( that could fly over the north pole) or satellites to observe from.

We do not have ANY data on any size of chunk of ice from previous centuries... all we know is that the existence of Icebergs has been known for a long time...

So today's observations are compared to what exactly?

To nothing.

Didn't the "unsinkable" Titanic go to the bottom after striking an iceberg about 96 years ago?
Where did that iceberg come from? Was there global warming in 1912?

They are allowing people to walk on the rivers in Winnipeg. First time anyone I know can remember that before Christmas.

MUST be AGW,...

Washington's Army at Valley Forge and Franklin's Lost Expedition would have welcomed a little more global warming!

There's global warming on five planets in our solar system, only one of which has SUV's.

Who caused the end of the last ice age, Fred Flintstone?

In the updated version of "The Day the Earth Stood Still," aliens have come to punish mankind for being a blight on our planet.

I'm sure glad we have benevolent aliens out there to wipe us out before we hurt ourselves.

I'm even more gratified that we have misanthropic leftists who wish to destroy our culture and economy for the sake of curing a non-disaster. I'm far more concerned about the end of the Mayan calendar in 2012 than I am with the Greenhoax Effect.

You'd think that after "Remember the Maine," Sergei Eisenstein, and Joseph Goebbels, people would have figured out that the deeper they pile the B.S., the higher your hip-waders have to be.

I'm in Nanaimo and can see the Strait of Georgia from my windows. Been here for 15 years. Right now, I'm having trouble shoveling the snow, simply because I'm having trouble heaving it high enough. The snow pile beside my back deck is now 5 feet high and the little lake across the road is frozen solid enough for hockey.

And this was all before the first official day of winter. The Jeep can barely get out of the driveway and my AWD Fusion is going to stay where it is until something like spring appears.

Tempertures? Starting to warm up as it's just -2C today, but the last 8 days have been more like -10C to - 15C.

If this were Flin Flon or Thunderbay it would simply be 'unusual' - but this is Canada's 'wet coast' where we're used to umbrellas and tennis.

Who should I believe? James Hansen or my lying eyes?

Now now, No Guff. Remember: unusually warm days, or heat waves, are definitive proof of global warming. However, the converse is not true: unusually cold days, or cold snaps, are of no significance.

Fellow B.C. resident here who crosses the Abby-Mission bridge every day. I can't remember the last time the Fraser was significantly iced over. The Albion ferry between Langley and Maple Ridge has been closed for the last two weeks for heaven sakes!

I'm getting so sick of the cult of AGW. I can't wait for a massive law suit against the likes of Gore and Suzuki, and major western governments, for advancing/supporting this fraud of all frauds.

Hey, neighbour. I've been following the Albion ferry thing too. The mighty Fraser! Ice-bound before the first official day of winter.

For Canadians who have never been west, the Fraser isn't a little podunk river like Calgary's Bow River (no offence, Calgarians), but one of the world's great high volume, fast moving rivers, draining much of British Columbia.

And if I recall correctly, at Fort Langley/Albion it's still a 'tidal river', so having it ice choked in mid-December is more than a little unusual.

Have to love how the AGW types have hedged their bets completely: it may get colder through 2015, but then get hotter after that. Or not.

Not only is it much colder than normal in BC but the BC lieberal government is collecting large amounts of carbon taxes on natural gas and heating fuel. My heating costs are up this year and I'm sure I'm not the only one cursing premier Campbell every time I pay my natural gas bill. Considering that the only current alternative to the BC Lieberal party is the BC communist party, I think it's time for all of BC east of Surrey to secede and join with Alberta. Alternatively one could swich to burning wood and start using up some of the massive amounts of beetle kill wood in the interior of BC.

"Alternatively one could swich to burning wood"

We're already using wood and we're still getting screwed on energy in B.C. Aside from our wood burning insert, we rely solely on electrical power.

Baseboard heating, well pump for water, etc. B.C. Hydro has just implemented a 'two-tier' billing system that penalizes 'all electric' households. First tier (lower priced) usage is minimal and virtually all homes, whether heated by natural gas, propane or oil, will still use some 'second tier' (more costly) electricity.

Those of us who rely on full electrical usage will pay much, much higher rates - the purported idea of course is conservation of energy. Instead, we cut more trees and pump more CO2 into the atmosphere than hydro generated electricity.

The number of additional taxes and fees at the muncipal, provincial and national levels are economy killers. Just as a small example, my wife bought a bottle of household bleach yesterday: there is now an additional 'eco-fee' on the plastic bleach bottle, over and above the recycling fees we already pay to deal with such plastics.
