It's an AP story by Ibrahim Barzak and Amy Teibel. It's same-old, same-old: Palestinian militants have been firing hundreds of rockets at Israel from Gaza for months on end. Now that Israel responds to the attacks, the EU and the UN, among others, suddenly step forward to call for "an immediate restoration of calm."

The tone of the AP story is familiar: the litany of casualties resulting from the Jewish response is treated as a collection of facts, all apparently independently verified by reporters with an apparent talent for prurience and purple prose, whereas the rocket attacks by the Palestinians are more in the direction of alleged, as in, that's what the Jews say -- "the Israeli army says Palestinian militants fired..." etc. Guess the reporters never saw 'em or heard 'em, eh?

In Gaza, the harm is enormous -- "women rushed into the streets frantically looking for their children." All this suffering simply because Palestinian militants had been "pelting" Israel with rockets -- a curious term to use, since pelting means throwing, more or less, as when you pelt people with stones. This pelting "traumatized southern Israel."

No further description necessary -- those Jews are just so melodramatic. Traumatized by the pelting.

The sooner the Isralis bring about a "Scorched Earth" policy for the Gaza, the sooner there will be peace in this region. They are so hate filled, even in grade school, that I think it's time for a reboot.

For anyone who listens to Canadian talk radio, I built something this afternoon which you may find useful.

"A Hot Media In A Cooling World

As I pointed out yesterday, this is precisely what is happening to our media with respect to the increasingly unequivocal ‘knowledge’ that we have now entered a cooling period in climate. They are starting to experience a powerful dissonance because of their strong promulgation over the last 20 years of the doomsday, catastrophic view of ‘global warming’.

Media reaction to the new ‘cognition’ is thus classic. It involves, above all, ignoring the cooling, but also mis-reporting the cooling, denying the cooling, or trying to create a new consonant cognition, one in which the cooling actually becomes a part of the catastrophic ‘global warming’ belief.

For some media, the dissonance is especially high, not because of the science of climate change, but because they have involuntarily invested so much air time, print, and uncritical emotion in hyping the more doomsday, cult-like elements of the ‘global warming’ trope, with dramatic images of drowning polar bears, collapsing ice sheets, flooded lands, and hard-baked deserts.

What Is Likely To Happen?

If the cooling phase in climate continues, media and political dissonance will increase to stress point. This will have one of two effects.

First, some media may become even more rabid in their presentation of ‘global warming’ disasters, showing yet more drowning polar bears, plunging ice sheets, dangerous mosquitoes, flooded cities, and barren lands. For this to happen, Festinger states that two conditions must be met:"

OTTAWA - A new poll suggests a significant majority of Canadians remain optimistic as they look ahead to 2009 - notwithstanding all the gloomy talk about a looming recession.

The Canadian Press Harris-Decima survey found that 58 per cent of respondents were upbeat about the coming year, and only 21 per cent were pessimistic. Another 20 per cent said their outlook was neither optimistic nor pessimistic.

Ironically, the poll found less cheer among the wealthiest respondents - those earning a family income of more than $100,000 a year - than among those earning less than $60,000.

In the lower income bracket, fully 61 per cent said they're looking forward to 2009. That compares to 54 per cent among high-end earners.

Losses on the stock market, or from retirement savings, may have impacted higher-income earners more."

BBC claimed the melamine scandal broke Sept '08. Using SDA's Apr '07 posting, I set the record straight. Thought you should get the kudos for breaking a story *17 months* before the beeb was even aware of it. (My name should click you through to my site if you want to see it.)

Cbc's coverage of the situation in Gaza is revolting. They now have an 'expert'explaining how the media spins the story in Israel's favour. The main point that is not being mentioned and probably won't be, is that Hamas had a choice between providing for the people or killing Jews. True to their religious beliefs,killing Jews is always the first choice.
