Canadian Journalism Project - Cast your vote for Canadian Newsperson of the Year

Ken Whyte backed up Mark and told the socks to stuff it. Go vote for him. [...] And lest people think I am trying to freep the poll, I found out about it via the Tyee weekly newsletter which is promoting David [Beers].

Did my bit yesterday.
Just over an hour since this was posted and Whyte is now winning. The power of SDA Nation is awesome! (lol)
He got my vote.
I was torn between him and Chantal... (as If)
Voted.
The Lynch-mob e-mail accounts are probably smoking right about now...
Who tf is this Beers guy?
j|c, David is a very smart, talented journalist who founded the online publication The Tyee which covers mainly BC politics.
SDA gets results! Check out the Google map below on the results page. Yellow rules.
"Who tf is this Beers guy?"
He runs Tyee.com an online magazine based on the premise that they have to counter the right wing bias of MSM. Many of the writers are global warming mongers and enjoy wallowing in the trough of Bush Derangement Syndrome.
If you’d like a taste of their product try; Tell Laura (Bush) I Love Her, written by one of their in house draft dodgers."...I dodged the draft, became an anti-war activist, took illicit drugs in exotic lands, and fled to Canada."

When I voted about 14 hours ago Beers was leading with nearly 50% and Whyte had about 17%.
Add Tyee to the list of small dead animals.

you know, sometimes it just doesn't seem like
a fair fight...
"DEATH TO JUICE"
a message from your "ARAT" brotherhood.

Michael Tolton has just posted a comment to the poll that it is being freeped by Kate from SDA.
I subscribed to MacLeans to support the Steyn defense. However, I won't renew. They're more like a junky version of People magazine. And Steyn seems to be gone.
What did it for me was the photo-shopped clown nose they put onto Sarah Palin. That's right down there with the worst of the lefties, and not their only attack on her, either.
Maybe Ken Whyte's revitalized the magazine, but if so, it must have been unbelievably terrible earlier, to make the present rag relatively worthy of praise.
Rick in BC:
You're correct — it was "unbelievably terrible" at one point. Ken Whyte's done a yeoman's job of pulling it up from the depths, and at the moment, he's trying to keep it financially viable (not an easy thing to do in this publishing climate).
Whether he'll continue on is anybody's guess.
Garth
And Tolton's little "freeping" hissy-fit's already been responded to over at the poll by both myself and at least one other commenter.
Garth
Ken's now at 54.4%.
David Beers has 24.8% now. SDA: WOW!
If you want to read an e-zine that describes PMSH as a "prime minister who disparages his own country" and who "wants to roll back decades of social progress" then the tyee is your urinal and Murray (ugh!) Dobbin is your urinalist.

Backing up Mark Steyn is more than enough to be considered not just newsperson of the year, but something like freedom defender of the year.
Thanks for the tip.
I saw David Beers speak at a conference at the Vancouver Public Library just before he went live with the Tyee. His whole point is that journalists should not just report the facts but try to make the world a better place. I believe most of the funding for the Tyee comes from unions. He was ahead of the curve for doing "serious" journalism online but the Tyee is at just a far left enviro site.
Well, well, well, guess who's involved in The Canadian Journalism Project?
I checked out "About Us" and discovered this about one of its operatives: "Newsroom Diversity - John Miller, Ryerson University".
He's the professor who asked for intervention status at the British Columbia Human Rights (sic) Tribunal (BCHRT) hearing against Maclean’s: although he was denied status, John Miller hoped to speak AGAINST free speech in the media and on the side of radical Muslim imam, Mohamed Elmasry and his “sock puppets”! John Miller further libelled Mark Steyn about the credibility of at least one of his sources in “America Alone”: the two then had a lively back and forth. (Mark won!)
I’ll bet John Miller’s none too happy to see this vote go so horribly wrong—and BECAUSE Ken Whyte championed the very freedom of speech that Miller is willing to sacrifice on the altar of PC diversity (sic)—check out his above “credentials”—and appeasement.
My sense of satisfaction, at imagining such elitists as John Miller squirm, is immense: left-wing journalists, such as he, used to control all the information that Canadians were allowed to know. The internet has changed all that and the cozy, little, powerful, non-diverse world of these privileged, totalitarian propagandists is crashing down around them—even at one of their own web sites. Schadenfreude!
I was going to vote for Derome, because he is no longer on TV. This is a good thing.
However, Whyte is the best bet. Macleans has improved since he took over and he stood by Mark Steyn.
Good on yer Cobber!
I noticed quite a few commenters on that site were complaining that the dastardly right was voting. Aren't we allowed?
A gem of a commetn:
This poll will become meaningless if the results are driven from a single website and it's readers.
Like any poll that the left doesn't like the results of.
every one of those candidates is an asshole
journalists have become worse than politicians
I despise them all
"I noticed quite a few commenters on that site were complaining that the dastardly right was voting. Aren't we allowed?"
The CHRC has to authorize all votes to ensure that journalists to not suffer hate and discrimination.
"I’ll bet John Miller’s"
Its Miller Time, but I want Dennis to talk about John to Bill O'Reilly, with Marvin Kalb looking on like he's just swallowed a tablespoon of exploding locusts dipped in dirty cigar butts.
My,my.The leftards are getting really upset over there.IMHO,there just isn't enough research $$ going into a cure for letardism.
And Kate. How dare you "freep" their poll...hehe.
And nowadays, isn't the word "journalism" an oxymoron all on its own? Cripes, the "Star" or "National Enquirer" has less bias.
