I think that that was the Washington Post, although I certainly agree that the New York Times is not a very reliable news source.

The reporter I was thinking of at the Times was Jayson Blair. But he didn't win the pulitzer. He was just an ordinary liar.

my understanding is that the Nobel family was in the arms business.

Their reputation suffered because of this, and they hired PR people who came up with the idea of the Nobel Prize to change the perception.

I guess it worked, because now everybody sees them as this prestigious, altruistic family.
