The “post-democracy which rules the EU”

This bizarre confrontation,

…which has been recounted and discussed with shock across formerly Communist eastern Europe, confirms the inability of the Euro-elite to accept that anyone holds different views from their own, on Lisbon, global warming or anything else. As we see from the way our own political parties are run, when it comes to “Europe”, the system has no place for opposition. Everything must be decided by “consensus”, directed from the top. There is only one approved “party line”. Apart from a few little powerless dissidents round the edges, the EU is thus in essence a one-party state.

  1. Exactly. Consensus, in this EU definition, isn’t an agreement derived within debate, questions and enabling dissent. It’s authoritarian rule.
All totalitarian regimes are ‘consensual’ in that no-one dares to dissent. If you do, you are defined as illegitimate by virtue of not representing The Truth, or The People or by some personal deficit in yourself. Your ‘bad’ behaviour is met usually by verbal and physical attacks.
The fascinating result of authoritarian consensus is that the regime screeches to a dead halt in its ability to adapt, evolve, progress. Why? Because change rests on ‘differences’. If everything is the same then, like a bowl of jello, we move into a state of immobility.
By the way, we have an attempt in Canada at ‘consensus’. The coalition is just such an action. It is authoritarian, where three people, Layton, Dion and Duceppe (and I’m including Ignatieff as well since he signed the document) tell us that our October election is invalid and doesn’t represent our will.
They tell us that any and all votes not placed for the Conservative party were actually not votes for the different political parties (Liberal, NDP, Green, Bloc, Marxist-Leninist, COmmunist etc).
No, we are told that our votes were really only about one thing: anti-Harper. Period.
These Wise Men don’t tell us why we chose to split our uniform anti-Harper votes into all these opposition parties nor even why there are these parties. They don’t tell us that this conclusions renders all Opposition parties as One; there are no differences between them.
They further tell us that they know even more about us; there’s no need for an election to choose them as our government. They will therefore, they tell us, save us the ‘waste of money caused by an election’ and set up their kindly governance over us…without an election.
A one party state. No opposition. They’ve set up the House so that Opposition is fruitless. No place for freedom of thought and speech. No place for the democratic right to choose our government.

  2. It works so well though when you’re the one controlling what the “consensus” is. Hey, where have we seen that in recent weeks?

  3. The far left has shown a disconcerting trend away from democracy, basic human freedoms, and fundamental justice. I guess the argument is that we tried these things during the 20’th century, and the desired utopia failed to materialize. Hence we must get beyond these limiting constraints.
The “elitocracy” governing Europe is just one more example of this.

  4. Times like this make you really understand why Euro-elites and our own lovely Liberals are so enamored of gun control.
Freedom is such an American thing. Ew.

  5. Great post ET! I went on the “62% majority” site I see no numbers on their petition, no surprise there. We only have one opposition party now and that is just how I intend to treat them. Why the media does not question these traitors is beyond me. We have been given no details of this deal with the devil, I have heard no proposals from them to adress the budget, same old same old, other than “jack” telling how the coalition saved Canada from the evil Conservatives. I saw P M Harpers interview yesterday it was good and clear, he has nothing to “apoligise” for if there were any apologies to be handed out the coalition and the lick-spittle media should be groveling.

When I read that book back in the early 50’s I laughed. I’m not laughing now.

  7. You could see this one-Euro attitude when Sarkozy advised the US to do the same as Europe did … move toward more state control of the economy.
With Obama in the US, Big Labour will have a bigger voice and the US will move closer to being the People’s Republic of America.
Layton sees this trend in Europe and the US and tried to seize the moment.
Thankfully, Canada has a huge immigrant population that came here to escape that type of Bolshevism of the elite and saw the Canadian Labour Congress power grab with sockpuppet Layton for what it was.
Harper was crafty enough to bust up the coalition by appealing to the traditional Liberal base, which Iggy represents. He’s doing that by isolating the Commies in the NDP and Bloc.
Once again, we came close to losing our country and history will show that Harper is the man that helped preserve individual freedom.
Thanks again that we managed to bring our free speech issue to a head. Now, we have a much better chance to emerge as the beacon of hope for free people around the world.
The US mob was suckered by the character assassination of Bush and voted more against the Bush legacy than for Obama.
I predict the Democrats will only control the house for another two years.
Republicans are positioning themselves as champions of the taxpayer and that will be a winning strategy in 2010.

  8. The EU, like all unnatural entities, is doomed to fail. It will take a lot of force to maintain this unstable grouping and take very little to break it apart. The cracks are already present – differing economic needs, immigration problems, decisions being made too far away without input from citizens, civil unrest. The consequences of the greenies demands in combination with an economic downturn will be the EU’s undoing. History has many examples of the collapse of artificially bound empires. Only in places like NA will you find successful stable governing of a big landmass. Our relatively short history has a few advantages over the Old World.

  9. Seems that what Napoleon couldn’t do with his Imperial Guard or Hitler with his SS legions is now being done by battalions of snivel servants in Brussels under the guidance from the Euro kingpins in Paris & Berlin.
Whether at the point of a bayonet, under the track of a panzer or through forced compliance of an EU Brussels “Directive”, it still amounts to the same thing.
    Surrender.

The Three Wise Men don’t come until January 6th, 2008.
Our erstwhile Keystone Koup Koaliton led by the Three Nutcrackers need to revisit the notion of democracy.
The EU group think is the same kind of rabble babble trotted out under the Communists just under a new guise. Before Marxism was going to “Save” mankind, now the Green Shaft will “Save the Planet”, etc. etc. Vaclav Klaus is simply on to them much sooner than the elitists would prefer. The Eurocrats like group think, it’s like the Borg and ultimate conformity. Other group think mentalities with pathological bent were National Socialism, Communism, etc.
Thanks we already have a Saviour, about 2000 years ago. Trouble is the elites, as then, still don’t want to listen; but would rather carry on with their agenda. As usual it is about power and money, always has been.
The troublesome concept with admitting the presence/reality of the Divine is that the ruling elites have to then admit that they are not really in “CONTROL” (!), which is what governing is all about. Oh heavens, Donner und Blitzen! we are not in control! Sound the alarm, it can’t be!
What a radical concept to serve the poor, the downtrodden, the broken, the sick, the imprisoned, the hungry,…ie the very ones the elites are exploiting.
So the October Revolutionaries, who liquidated 100s of millions, now spring their belated trap and become the November Keystone Koalition Revolutionaries! You dummies, you’re 91 years too late!
Get with the program, JC the original revolutionary, beat you to it by about 1900 years!
The thing that killed the October Revolutionaries was that the elites were in it for themselves, they certainly weren’t there to actually SERVE the public interest, but are rather there to SERVE THEMSELVES.

  11. The AGW may be summed up by facts & reasonable probabilities.
    FACT:
The Planet has 4.5 Billion years of past violent climate change and evolution, including 11 ice ages. Scientific theory has never once claimed that the cause has/may be traced to atmospheric or to the surface inhabitants. That is 4.5 billion years, some which did
    not include our existing atmosphere
What are the odds of probability that a delusional failed politician & a like delusional NASA librarian (collector of yesterday’s temperatures) have a reasonable theory that Climate change (AGW) is caused by mankind and can be controlled.
The “Mission Statement” in the AGW project is missing, the enabling science is missing. That is the footprint of a fruad, not Science.

  12. Klaus is a better man than I.
I’d have thrown the belligerent little eurotrash weasel out on his ass after the first insult.
Imagine the chutzpah of some German-French green-pansy lecturing a guy who risked death in a gulag on democracy. I’d have bitchslapped the teeth out of his mouth.

  13. Knowing Klaus’ past, this will only make him even more resolved to oppose the elitism and neo-liberal totalitarianism of the Euros.
God bless and speed him in his efforts.

  15. “Post Democratic” — that’s a good one. It will fit perfectly the left’s “progressive” urges. After all, how could one oppose being “progressive”? And when the current state of affairs is a democracy, however imperfect, well then, the next stage in “progress” must be something other than a democracy like, hmmmm . . . enlightened despotism? — old, dictatorship? — too transparent. I know, how about “real democracy” — you know, the kind where the ruler just “knows” what the people want. Yeah, that’s the answer — like the left’s hero, Castro. Yes, “post democratic” society — aka brutal, oppressive, utterly intolerant, murderous dictatorship, but this time you can end up “progressively” starved, tortured and killed. The left will be on it like a dirty shirt.

  16. It may take a while but that EU is in for a major surprize. I only hope that Conn-Bandit and his ilk wind up on the breadline.

Excellent insight. The lefties justify their undemocratic actions with a context of kindergarten-level philosophy.

  19. I sit here smugly smirking, as I’v said for 15 years now that LIBERALISM (in all it’s forms) will destroy democracy, and in this article lies the proof. Klaus is a gem amoungst fools!!

  20. Seems like the EU has taken its direction from the United Nations on how it is supposed to deal with opposition. Of course this is to be expected since the professional bureaucrats that infest Europe are interchangeable between the two organizations. All of them seem to believe they have a divine right to decide what is best for the world. The UN’s IPCC is a prime example of this one-view-only rule and the petty tyrants that slither along its corridors must be applauding the coercive attitude of their dictatorial brothers-in-arms .

  21. I have said it before and I will say it again,D day should have been in about 1950.I would have let those Europeans fight it out and then hung the winners.

  22. We all know what happens to one Party States.
They degenerate into a Personality cult run by a nut who thinks their the new guide to Utopia.
Than the real fun begins. A United Europe in war, is not a happy contemplation.

  23. “A United Europe in war, is not a happy contemplation.”
The EU will disintegrate well before that ever happens. Brussels was a cesspool of backstabbing corruption beyond the pale of even most politicians in other capitals when I was there 12 years ago, and I know it’s only gotten worse since then.

  24. So the Anarcho-Fascist Cohn-Bendit has resurfaced as a Euro-bureau! Wonderful! By the way, “Bob” Rae is one of that ilk – as he showed as a student Fuehrer at the University of Toronto.
One of my lab demonstrators was ex-Hitler-Juegend: a somewhat frightening person, but altogether a more sympathetic figure than either Cohn-Bendit or Rae.

  25. “I’d have bitchslapped the teeth out of his mouth.”
That’s what I like about you Warwick.

  26. “Imagine the chutzpah”
Warwick, did you mean, “insolence”? I think there’s a subtle difference there.
Then again, these days anyone with a clear head, careful thinking, patience and determination can easily be called, “arrogant”.
Sez the Peanut Gallery: There’s no time! We have to act/react right now! No time for thinking!
And of course, no matter what decision is eventually made, it was the wrong one.
