Just A Chief Of Staff From My Neighborhood

“A source familiar with the investigation confirmed … that Rahm Emanuel did in fact have multiple conversations with Governor Rod Blagojevich [and his chief of staff] about the senate seat…”

Don Surber on the man behind the curtain;

“DeLeo is a colorful fellow who drove Cadillacs, Jaguars and Mercedes as a $20,000 a year bailiff in traffic court.
Emanuel is ducking the press. DeLeo is ducking the press. Blagojevich is taking singing lessons.
And if he’s smart, Obama is vetting a new chief of staff.

Buchanan asks the question of the hour of a President-elect who claims there was no “contact”;

Blagojevich is overheard on the wiretaps complaining that all that Obama, whom he slurs nastily, was offering was gratitude.
How did Blagojevich know that?

  1. While we’re on the subject of Chief’s of Staff and conflicts of interest, anyone care to comment on Ian Brodie today? Does anyone really buy that “provide senior counsel to Hill & Knowlton clients across the country in government relations, whether provincial, federal, or international” will not involve trying to convince government to help his clients?
Sorry, I know, off topic, makes Conservatives look bad and hypocritical, makes it seem that they only want accountability to apply to others and not themselves. Carry on as you were.

PM’s former adviser accused of peddling access to corridors of power
OTTAWA — A former top adviser to the Prime Minister is joining one of Canada’s biggest lobbying firms, raising opposition hackles over the Conservative government’s failure to sever all its ties with the world of “government relations.”
Ian Brodie, who was Stephen Harper’s chief of staff between January of 2006 and July of this year, will be joining the offices of Hill & Knowlton in Ottawa next month as a senior counsel.
His new job comes three years after the Tories vowed to stop the revolving door between the federal government and the lobbying industry.

  2. Hard not to get sick and tired of politicians and their endless desire to abuse the system for their own personal gain.
For one there are far too many lawyers in politics.

  3. Unclear at the moment how deep Barry’s involvment is with this mess, but even the most loyal obamabot cannot begin to believe that he has had no say in who is going to get his seat.

  4. It’s inconceivable that nobody from Obama’s team had conversations with the man who was going to appoint Obama’s successor. It’s even more inconceivable given that that man was from the same party as Obama. There’s nothing wrong with having those conversations, which leads me to believe that the conversations were about more than who the successor was going to be: things like what the price was.

  5. If you turn over a rock, things are going to scurry.
That’s why our beaches have lotsa rocks.
‘Scuse me, my popcorn’s gone cold…

  6. Yeah, things are developing – without the blogosphere there would be no outcry.
Even CNN people were starting to ask softball, easily-deflected milquetoast questions.

  7. OK – quick! Who’s going to be the first to rise to the bait planted by the troll? You all know who I mean.

  8. This is exactly what happens when the media is in the tank. There was no proper vetting of Obama. There are huge gaps of info on his background. How can one be born politically in the worst cesspool of politics and not be tarnished in some way.I believe he is woefully unprepared for the task.

  9. I don’t know Diana, I think New Orleans and Louisanna in general would give the toddlin town a run for its money 😉

  10. Fact is that Obama already proved himself a liar with his Ayers lie of “just some guy in the neighborhood” which, after the election, Ayers set the record straight on. By ‘set the record straight’, I mean he backed up Sarah Palin’s version of the facts and showed his protoge Obama to be a liar. Except that Ayers claims he was not a terrorist because he was fighting for a nobel cause. I am sure that bin Laden believes the same.
Presidents need their credibility. Obama has none.

  11. I watched the news last night and had a sort of deja-vu flashback from the 1990’s when I heard the phrase that went along the lines of: “Let me state that I did not have contact with the Governor.”
Gee, even the tone and manner which said line was spoken… it had the same melodic ring as, “Let me state that I did not have sexual relations with that woman.”
    Lol!
The silver lining within the storm clouds of Western Civilization turning into a conglomerate of Banana Republics is the fitting way that virtually all Banana Republic Leaders are sent to meet their Maker.

  12. Pete-
Although the Chicago Tribune has entered bankruptcy protection, it’s competition, the SunTimes, has not. The merger has been suggested before, after Conrad Black’s “management” stint at the SunTimes, but not yet. Good one!
And to answer your question, the short list, and in order, would have been Valerie Jarrett, Emil Jones, or Jesse Jr..

  13. Bah. I went to Google News, and put in Obama. Headline banner – Obama quote exonerating himself. Pfff. There ain’t no Woodward and Bernstein anymore.

  14. Well, one can get a used Merc, Jag, or Caddy for pocket change, after all.
Though I imagine his probably weren’t very old or very cheap.

  15. Just A Chief Of Staff From My Neighborhood
It begs the question what kind of neighborhood did he live in?
Was he the only pure man or Family In America to live so close to all these Pirates of every hue? To a virtual river of thieves, leeches, conmen, with terrorists topping the cake. Someone should fumigate the place. Sounds like they have a rat & cockroach problem.
It sure ain’t Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. More like Sesame Street on crack.

  16. ah yah, sounds a little like back in the 60T’s
didn’t the one who would walk on water back then trip and git his head shot off by the “boyz”, me thinks that the new “ONE” should make sure he vetts his SS staff reeeeeeeal well

  17. GYM-
The point I was trying to make is not BHO vetting his staff, because he is not. Not his job. It’s a question of who’s going to get “sent” for his staff.
    And by whom.
The Chicago “way” demands a “fixer”, or a “minder”, and Rahm’s been, ahem, compromised.
    Outta popcorn again, ‘scuse me.
Can somebody check if somebody left a fan on, or something, on the porch? That breeze from up there is rough down here tonight.

  18. Revnant-
I know you will enjoy this bit of irony.
Whose seat did Rahm Emanuel take over in the US House?
    Put you drink down.
    Rod Blagojevich.
    Neighborhood schmeighborhood.
    Ain’t life grand?

    Whew, got away with it…

  20. The funny thing is BHO has pissed off many from the wackey left as Ann Coulter was snickering about the other day. And when they get bent out of shape, look out! This is going to be soooo much fun, the next four years!

  21. Obama’s practice of lying his way out of every difficult situation is going to hit him, sooner or later; perhaps now.
Obama may end up as the first President-elect to be impeached before inauguration.

  22. Governor Rod Blagojevich should just run away and join the circus.
He should do it asap, before the authorities arrest him and place him in juvenile detention.
