Blog Notes

Big problems today with the server, as you’ve likely noticed. I’m told it’s due to a variety of issues, most of them generated by the way MT handles comments, combined with the heavy traffic of recent days. It looks like a site upgrade is in the cards in the near future.
Until that’s been completed (and it’s going to be a few days), please refrain from engaging in idle chit-chat, debates, and one-liners in the comments. Before posting, double-check that your comment is on topic, brings something new to the conversation, and don’t hit post a second or third time.
Otherwise, I may be forced to shut down the comments in their entirety to relieve the demand on server resources. I don’t want to do that, but I may be forced to if the site keeps going down as a result.
Thanks for your patience. It’s been a frustrating day on this end, too.
(This chart by Vitruvius should help to illustrate the problem).

  1. Kate- some one-liners say more than a three paragraphs from certain “contributors”.

  2. Kate – Message heard loud and clear. Just to let you know that at no time since I have been going to your site have I been more appreciative to have it, not only as a great source of information but as a conduit for my opinions and feelings during the dog and pony show on Parliament Hill.
    Thanks Kate!

  3. Kate ,
AoS was having similar problems , usually with links taking up space . Having said that , yes , I am a moron and I don’t understand tinyurl , ( still semi-competent at HTML ) ……. time to learn tinyurl ?

  4. Make sure it isn’t a denial-of-service attack…
Have a look at your server logs.
I had this happen over the course of a few days before I realized it. Thought it was a plugin problem or a mysql problem.

  5. Mansbridge just announced that PMSH will do sit-down chat tomorrow eve on National. They will discuss the past week’s events.

  6. Sammy, if Harper doesn’t go into attack mode he is toast. Defensive positions are open to attack, attack positions have to be defended. I think Harper has to, without being perceived as aggressive, attack with questions that make chrome dome think instead of just reading his prompter.
