Via CBC where, for a change, our tax dollars are actually paying for something useful.
(And then there’s the I told you so riding.)
Heh. From reader Pete; “just saw the funniest CTV report ever from the front of the campaign office of Jerry Ritz. Apparently, unlike in the previous two elections, instead of being allowed to cover from inside his office, they have been reporting from outside his office. It looked pretty cold.”
And this just inNette Wiebe has just conceded to Kelly Block in Saskatoon – Rosetown – Biggar, which means they know the remaining polls to come in are rural – and Conservative.
Plus – the Twist Of The Knife award!

Well done, Mr. Bernier – may this “STFU” message from your riding to the Canadian media signal your return to cabinet.

  1. Kate…is that the parent insulting Monica Lysack of the ill-fated so-called non-partisan Liberal beaurocratic SOW-SWC supported childcare advocacy group?!
    SWEEEET!!!Justice!!! BWAHAHAH!!!
    Sask voters Rock!!

  2. Liking the results of this election. Close enough to a majority to govern
like you have one, but guaranteed to have another election in the next 12
months or have the Libs continue to humiliate themselves by being forced to
support the cons or not show up. Media is already setting up the narrative
of Harper as a failure. However, I think this
was the plan all along. Harper is out to destroy the Libs by making them
subservient to him in this parliament or by forcing them to fight 2 elections and a leadership
    race in 12- 18 months.
Publicly he is somber and thankful, privately he is shaking hand with the inner circle – this is exacltly what he wanted.
A Con majority would have given the Libs a chance to rebuild. No such chance now.

  3. Just to watch Lloyd and Craig on CTV almost in tears to see their beloved Liberals beat is the best one can hope for. In spite of the Liberal media machine the Conservatives are victorious. Time for the media to wake up – Fair and Balanced is what the people want.

  4. I considered adding Bernier, but he doesn’t really fit the knuckledragger theme. But yes, he gets a special twist of the knife award, as well.

  5. Craig Oliver will rock himself to sleep tonight chanting over and over…
    “it’s a minority,Bob…
    it’s a minority,Sandy…
    it’s a mmmm….Lloyd”
He’s probably too frightened to look at the poular vote numbers.

  6. At least now Craig does not have to ask Steffi if he can remove his nose, he can just take it out and insert it in BOB’S ass.

  7. “Da last one I want to talk to first is CTV!” – geez Dion’s a bit touchy right now….

  8. It may even signal a return of Bernier to Mlle Whatshername’s boudoir, or did he dump her?
Can’t remember these important details of our fascinating political drama.
    Any news on free speech?

  9. Lloyd, Craig, and the like still don’t get it. Watching Stephie’s speech and the banner is telling us all about the Liberal fortunes in Saskatchewan, mostly who was defeated. Nothing about 13 Conservative seats. And when talking of PMSH’s victory, they are still trying to pass it off as a failure, a disappointment, a loss etc.
I couldn’t stand to listen to Taliban Jack’s speech. I flipped over to David Letterman who sounded like a Rhodes Scholar compared to Jacko.

  10. It would be interesting to note if Mr. Bernier received more votes than his EX sold copies of her memoirs…
good for him, and I hope a lesson learned.

  11. So, in how many ridings were the greens even remotely close to winning? That will make three elections now where the green sympathizers pissed and moaned that they weren’t being recognized enough and this time they got pretty much equal time/attention and they got bupkiss (again). Time to begin treating them like Ralph Nader.

  12. Did no one else catch this? Craig Oliver was interviewing Ralph Goodale and I can’t say that this is exactly a correct quote but at the end of the interview what he said is (or words very close to this) “I’m sure that voters of every political stripe will be happy to see that you are re-elected”. While those may not be his exact words, they in no way misrepresent what Oliver said. How patently pathetic. When is this bozo going to call it a day?

  13. From what I can tell elizabeth may was the only green to finish second and the only one to poll better than 20%. Perhaps I am missing someone. Has anyone watching the networks heard any mention of the greens failure yet again?
    2. What are the chances that Ralph Goodale announces that he’s retiring in the next 24 months?
    3. What is the likelyhood that someone will request that elections Canada press charges against Danny Williams?

  14. check that…
There are 4 greens that finished second in … Alberta – none with better than 20% of the vote.

  15. Thanks . It is also interesting that Donna Cadman is about to be declared victorious. I don’t know how the media will spin this, possibly that those bully conservatives took advantage of her grief?

  16. Rex Murphy missed three major reasons why PM Harper did not make gains in Quebec: He is not from Quebec he is a Westerner, he does not speak Quebecois fluently and he is not one of the Quebec elite.

  17. Poor old Craig will never learn to call it quits – he doesn’t know whether to sh*t or go blind… Oops, too late.

  18. Norman, I’ll give you two more reasons why Tories unsuccessful in Quebec: No discernable organization outside of some pockets; and, no Quebec lietenant to deal directly with Duceppe and his maitre chez nous crowd.
Where was Jean Charest BTW? Was he torn between his federal Tory and provincial Liberal association? With his help Harper’s helpers could have dispelled some of the nonsense being spouted on the ground, such as accusing Tories of wanting to put 14 year olds in jail for life.
ET is right, Quebecers will not accept an outsider as their leader. So, Harper must find a prominent Quebecer of the highest reputation to be his intermediary, his emissary. This Quebec lieutanance must also build up grass roots support and election storm troopers, to borrow a term from CTV’s Jean Lapiere.
And Duceppe, who believes he has also won an election, must be dealt with, and not be allowed to leave the debate when he gets insulted. He is seriously isolating his province, refusing to let it act as one partner in the federation. He must be told to put up or shut up – to sit at the federal table or advocate separation, period.
A similar approach, BTW, can work for Danny the tantrum. He has pushed Newfoundlanders away from the federal table, and has left them without of a voice there. Someone from outside the province will have to act for them. A truly shameful performance on his part.

  19. The Green came in second in Calgary Southeast and lost to Jason Kenney by about a bazillion votes. Actually, that’s not too bad since the candidate’s campaign consisted of one sign on a boulevard that said only “Green Party of Canada”. The first time I saw the candidate’s name was on the ballot.

  20. Garth Turner…The Digital Democracy Guru…has been (ha ha…what can one say beyond that)…has been rejected by the good folks of Halton…better yet let’s just stick to the ‘Has Been’ part of that statement.
I’d like to feel your pain Garth but somehow I just can’t get up that emotion.
What’s on the horizon Garth?…dealing cards in Reno?

  21. Well Quebec rejected Albertas success again…but I bet the welfare bums with a 160 billion provincial debt won’t reject our transfer payments. Why don’t you just separate Quebec, we are tired of you screwing us and not even kissing us.

  22. a different Bob at October 15, 2008 12:28 AM
Yes, I noticed, too, craig oliver’s preposterous statement. Didn’t you hear me yelling at the tv?

  23. Long live the Bloc, and the Ndp!
As long as we have both, the conservatives will continue to rule.
With 38% popular vote, a majority was so close!!!!!!
Already the liberals are fighting with each other,
not only that, who want’s to lead this train wreck?
    God bless Canada

  24. Long live the Bloc, and the Ndp!
As long as we have both, the conservatives will continue to rule.
With 38% popular vote, a majority was so close!!!!!!
Already the liberals are fighting with each other,
not only that, who want’s to lead this train wreck?
    AND the liberals are BROKE!
They’re as good as lap dogs now.
    God bless Canada

  25. Make Rob Anders fishery minister, how much support from Danny Whine Williams can you lose.cut the duffsitting provinces tranfer payments now, ontario is broke

  26. Pudgy Don Martin at the National Post will be in crying mode too. He’s been whining ever since Harper was elected a couple of years ago. He’ll be out in the cold just like the crybabies outside Ritz’s.

  27. Another minority?
Dang, I guess we’ll have to keep our agenda hidden awhile longer.

  28. In Harpers speech tonight he mentioned Layton, May,and Duceppe, but not Dion. This slight will look good on Dion after all his screaming and yelling and calling Harper a liar many times.
If i was Harper i would not talk to Dion again until he gets a public apology.

  29. Maybe Julie was wrong about him after all!! Looks like he’s well liked in “La Belle Province.”
Better luck next time Julie cherie!!

  30. Craig Oliver said that Gerry Ritz managed to hang on to his seat tonight, in spite of his ‘damaging’ comments about meat poisoning. I wonder how Craig defines ‘hang on'(58.79 % of the popular vote!) Craig was sulking and snappy to Loyd Robertson – lower lip protruding. Had me laughing at him, he looked like a wet hen!

  31. cj: one of the exceptions that proves the rule.
And did any of the talking heads bring up the hapless perfromance of the greens?

  32. Thank God Bernier’s back in!
(For no other reason of course than we’ll be seeing more babes in the media instead of turgid pundits!)

    Re: The recent election results
Literally, the first blog I ever knowingly read was yours of August 11th when you wrote a considerable amount of fiction about me. In “Huckstered in Halifax”, your first stab at me, you said that I was a figment of someone’s imagination in the PMO, or a Liar, or that I lived on “millionaire’s row”. That day you revised your posting four times by my count and ended up with “Hoodwinked in Halifax”. Fortunately, a guy by the name of Steve Janke took the trouble to interview me before he wrote his blog column. He tore large strips out of your hide. I’ve watched both blogs on and off for the past two months with great interest.
I wish to congratulate you on your recent defeat. I couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.”

  34. Time now to focus our considerable abilities on completely taking apart the CBC, fully deconstructing the liberal media, and expunging the bloc and the fringe nutbars from the landscape. Now time to mop up. Serving notice to the Tranna twitterers it is now Game On!

  35. I couldn’t stay awake long enough last night to see the final counts but this morning both Pravda and Tass remained true to form and had Justin Turdeau and Boob Rae as guests. Oh, and a little reporter in the field asking if the Conservatives are contemplating a leadership change since the PM couldn’t deliver a majority.
What a load of crap! I flipped between the two channels to try and find the numbers only thing I got was media self pity for them and the Lieberals. Oh, those lot senate seats…

  37. I got fed up with CTV and switched to Global although CBC wasn’t bad, just boring.
I could not stand the non-stop barrage of interviews with failed Liberal leadership candidates.
And Brian Tobin was nauseating with his comments that the Liberals had enough of a base to make a comeback, a Rat Pack redux. Has he even bothered to check out the dinosaurs that are left in the Liberal caucus? Perhaps his new Rat Pack is Mark Holland and Justin Trudeau?
I’m happy with the election and completely done with Quebec. I hope Harper keeps on his path of returning the BNA model of Confederation but I truly hope he is done with pandering to those infants.

  38. Gotta laugh at Quebecers who are now no more than French speaking Newfies of sorts (I still like the newfies a lot more BTW)…We Conservatives Handed Quebecers potential keys to live in the castle and what do they do? Throw those keys down the manhole, sit on the sidewalk, point fingers and play victim. Again.
I guess a handfull of second rate artists (No I’m not talking about Celine Dion or Cirque du Soleil here) who still play their boring angry at “les anglais” folk tunes from the 60’s and can’t make a living on their own AND ALSO irresponsible parents who “raise” young criminals are more important for Quebecers to protect than having good Ottawa representation to have more power in creating decent jobs and real infrastructure fixes instead of road patches. I swear downtown Montreal skyline has not changed one iota since the 70’s and that province has not gotten one major mega job creator since the James Bay Hydro project(Also in the 70’s).
If Liz May said that Canadians are stupid then Duceppe has just proven to us that Qcers are really retarded. No logic and longterm view, just pure emotion drives them. It is still the same since Duplessis, the Premier who kept them in the dark and poor with a coniving Catholic church back in the 40’s and 50’s. In this case, Duceppe is as big a traitor to the prosperity of Qcers has Duplessis was then. Some hero.
And the cherry on the sundae?: Justin Trudeau elected. Duceppe could of shown some “Quebecois” conviction by putting more time and energy to make sure Trudeau looses being he represents the party that created the divisions in the first place: Liberal. But this just proves that it is not beneficial for the Bloc if the Liberals dissapear. It is to note that Trudeau would probably have been elected in downtown Toronto or Vancouver too.
It is high time Quebec makes up it’s mind on what it wants or leave the Confederation.
The 2 provinces that looks the most stupid today are Quebec and Newfoundland and believe me the former takes first place here.
What hurts me the most personally is the fact that I was born and raised as a French Qcer. I now reside in Ontario which I can say I am proud to be part of today.
