“Hello, my handle is Quiplash”
Dear Cecil Rosner;
The Black Rod is on your Trevor Kennard “story” like white on rice;
The CBC said they obtained the letter from Ryan Schultz “who came across the letters while conducting research for a book on the local gay and lesbian community.”
Uh huh.
Shultz told CBC he was shocked by the letter.
“My personal question to the candidate would be: do you still espouse these views, and if so, why?”
The careful phrasing of the question is straight out of a political party phrasebook. It would be comical if it wasn’t so deliberate.
[…]
The CBC didn’t think that Schultz’s political bias or his own use of anti-homosexual epithets was worthy of reporting.
They did run to Lori Johnson, chair of the school board at the time Kennard wrote his letter, for comment, but without mentioning that she is an open lesbian and a chief promoter of the school board initiative that Kennard was opposing.
Nor did they mention that [Kennard’s Liberal opponent] Anita Neville sat on the school board in 1999 and, perhaps, might have been instrumental in providing a researcher with a certain letter from a certain candidate.
Update: Marty Gold, in the comments;
I was hosting the drive-home show at CFRW right after Gerry’s show. We were on the air until the day before the format was changed, at the end of June 1999.
Fast was NEVER ‘kicked off the air’, or fired as CBC has alleged.
It is well known that it was John Collison, NOT Fast, who was fired by CFRW, and I was hired to fill Collison’s slot.
If CBC could not even be bothered to get that detail right, and proceeded instead to make a false claim that smears an honest man they went out of their way to find and get a quote from – in my opinion they cannot be trusted on any aspect of this story.

At the CBC;
Nobody at the meeting remembers Kennard specifically, but one attendee remembers meeting one man who “radiated hatred and homophobia.”
If anyone in the Winnipeg area can shed more light on this one, let me know. By “shed more light”, I mean I want the name of the reporter.
The other aspect of this story – someone in the school division made a decision to make this a story – by releasing a 9 year old letter from a parent and private citizen to the media. Now there’s the way to foster trust between school boards and parents. I find myself wondering why such an action shouldn’t be a firing offense?
Update – CBC has the online version here (without attribution to any reporter.) Note this passage;
Ryan Schultz, who came across the letters while conducting research for a book on the local gay and lesbian community, said he found Kennerd’s letter troubling.
Not to mention, timely.
Let that be a warning to any parent who dares to question school board social indoctrination of their children – your words may just “accidentally surface” some day and be used to paint you as an “intolerant homophobe*” in state-run media.
“Fire them all” isn’t good enough. We need to bury this wretched corporation so deep the worms won’t find it.
*typo corrected!

Federal elections – final stretch – massive manipulation.

That’s strange; when I clicked on Kennerd’s response (.pdf) it came up fine…
When I clicked on the original letter (.pdf) it comes up as an error?! Anyone else having the same problem?
How can I judge the quality of the debate without seeing the original? My initial reaction is ‘yellow journalism’…
“Liz”, how some of you Liberals sleep at night is beyond any reasoned person’s thinking. Then to say you’ve changed your vote, c’mon, that’s old, tired, and desperate, your vote was never in doubt as NOT for the Conservatives. Provide us with a link to substantiate your accusation.
This is another example of what we’re dealing with folks. There’s a frenzied attempt by the Liberals and their MSM team of supporters to seize power like we’ve never before witnessed in our history.
gordonkneehill writes: “There is NO SUCH THING as “homophobia”. “Homophobia” is a phony term…”
Homophobes were originally defined as people who didn’t like homosexuals; for several years now we have known that the term refers to people that homosexual activists don’t like.
Good on the CBC for putting up the original letter as well as Mr. Kennerd’s response from today. The 1999 letter is pretty tame. Judging by the comments from the article on the CBC website, it appears as though most of the readers of the article support Mr. Kennerd or think it to be no big issue.
Kate:
…paint you as an “intolerant homophone” in state-run media.
I often enjoy your wit; yet as I look at this statement several times, I conclude that this is not so much a case of wit as it is a case similar to that of “shrinking violent”. That “n” is a culprit in both cases. Cheers.
Cecil Rosner, Managing Editor of CBC Manitoba, wrote to Ommag (6:53 above): “As you know, there is increased scrutiny during elections of positions adopted by candidates and statements they have made in the past.”
Note the massive massive watch-the-hand elision of that statement: between the lines Rosner implies that it’s self-evident that a) Kennerd said something wrong and b)those who complain are complaining that it would be *brought up* years later. He avoids the real issue, which is that the “news” story, “Eyebrows raised over candidate’s decade-old letter on diversity education” makes the case that having or expressing a non Lib/left position is scandalous and damaging to a politician.
They don’t get it, they’ll never get it. Ridiculous, insulting, partisan — it’s a joke. Just Liberal election advertising, as ET said. Conservatives are among the taxpayers who pay literally thousands of millions of dollars to enable this bureau-state propaganda arm to scare Canadians off conservatism and to paint conservative, sensible views as “not acceptable.”
“Eyebrows raised over…”
It makes me sick. And The National’s coverage is getting worse by the day as the election approaches. Paul Hunter for one isn’t even trying to hide it; when he looks into the camera to wrap up, he’s not looking at Canadian voters/viewers, he’s looking to Liberal war room insiders — “See? Do you see what I’m doing? Is that good? Did you see what I just did? Did I really get away with that? I better wrap up quick here…”
It’s not right. Paul Hunter, Keith Boag, Susan Bonner, Peter Mansbridge — they’re Liberal shills and they know it. They’re proud of the work they’re doing — not their journalistic work, but the work they’re doing for their buddies behind the scenes in the LPC.
Privatize it. Or dismantle it — sell the cameras and mics and lights and satellite trucks. It’s an anti-democratic fraud and an insult to everyone who’s not an unthinking fan of the big-state lib/left.
And you know what? If Cruickshank is actually capable of watching the National and saying to himself, “Hmm, not bad. Overall, I think that was fairly balanced” he’s either incapable of standing up the entrenched forces at the CBC, or he’s tone-deaf to the point of retardation, or he’s actually in on it.
“Hunter, Boag, Bonner and Mansbridge”
Sounds like the warmup act for the Partridge Family reunion tour.
I can kind of understant where he may be coming from. My daughter goes to a public, French-immersion school which prides itself in its ethnic diverstiy, which is fine for me, except at Christmas time…I’ve been to the Christmas program put on by the students for the last two years and have yet to hear anyone or any group even refer to the term Merry Christmas, or even come close to the Christian portrayal of the Nativity…Just once for cryin out loud, just once..
Speaking of which…where is Hurricane Krista and her leather outfits these days?
As far as I can tell, Trevor Kennerd’s 1999 letter is spot on. Today’s homosexual agenda is not about tolerance; it is all about affirmation of a dubious lifestyle, indoctrination of children and adult toddlers, deconstruction of traditional values and use of the state instruments of political correctness to stifle any perspective which doesn’t promote normalization. Parents have not only the right, but the duty to insist that the state institutions to which we entrust our children don’t enable that agenda.
You go, Trevor! Bravo Antigonish!
frankthetank, you can complain–or at least request that the Winterfest AT CHRISTMAS TIME at your child’s school is connected to the centuries-old celebration of CHRISTMAS. If they haul out the “multicultural” reason why they can’t do that, remind them that Christians are PART OF CANADA’S MULTICULTURAL MOSAIC.
Chairman Kaga: “That would make me a concerned parent that is concerned with the educational development of my kids,” a statement with which any reasonable person would agree.
But you will soon discover that being “a concerned parent” is total anathema to school and board administrators. What they’re counting on, in order to forward their “progressive” social engineering agenda, is unconcerned, uninformed, ignorant parents.
The only good parent is a negligent parent.
That never stopped me. But it would have been nice, seeing as there’s safety in numbers, if the parents who actually agreed with me (I know they did, because they’d come up to me under cover of darkness and say “keep up the good work”!) had stood on the ramparts with me.
The Ryan Shultzes of the world are on the government gravy train while a “concerned parent”–aka Trevor Kennerd–is demonized. It’s a topsy-turvy world.
“Let that be a warning to any parent who dares to question school board social indoctrination of their children – your words may just “accidentally surface” some day and be used to paint you as an “intolerant homophone” in state-run media.”
Bring it on! The finger-waggings of the morally bankrupt mean nothing to me! So I’m a homophobe! Whoop-de-frigging-do!
Kate:
“The best part of this smear was getting Gerald Fast, a discredited former broadcaster, to comment. Of the seven hundred thousand people in Winnipeg, CBC just happened to pick a guy who was kicked off of the radio years ago for homophobic comments. ”
ABSOLUTELY UNTRUE.
I was hosting the drive-home show at CFRW right after Gerry’s show.
We were on the air until the day before the format was changed, at the end of June 1999.

now to ask the CBC how they missed mssr. Dions plagerized McCain speech.
The CBC I suppose is beyond redemption. Its like asking the scorpion to change its temperament. These are just words & as my granny used to say: “Words are cheap, actions speak”. They act like Neo-Marxists, they talk like totalitarians, the whole operation collectively like Liberal fascists, they support radical socialism to the max, at every take or comment. Gee I wonder what this duck is?
The only way this Vampire on the Canadian juggler can be exorcised. Is with a metaphorical stake in the heart while being exposed to the sun for the rancid political pusher it is. Like the roo courts of intolerance created by the HRC,s. Fire them all!! It has just become another instrument of subjugation by propaganda.
This station has nothing really to do with Canada. Its about a world view.
If you shut down the CBC, where else will Al Jazeera get all their up and coming journalists?
Dear folks:
Take care and keep the faith.
The leftist creature (CLPOC )still has a great deal to answer for.
Namely:
1. The betrayal known as the Sponsorship scandal.
2. The $500 million helicopter cancellation, which has cost Canadian soldiers LIVES, when forced to use ground transportation in areas of conflict.
3. “Abotech” where government cotracts had to go through a LIEBERAL MP’S shell company, operating out of his HOME and the directors were his KIDS.
4.AND let’s go WAAAY BACK, to fondly remember a solicitor-general who FORGED his whores husbands signature, in order to abort HIS fetus. LIEberals seem to have no rule book whatsoever.
Oh and yes, I wonder when HER book is coming out?
I could go on, but bandwidth being what it is…let’s just pass the word.
Liz J., I am not a Liberal. I am a card-carrying Conservative who desperately wants to see some “red meat” from the party. Harper is still the best choice for PM but the pressures of a left-wing opposition have left him pandering. I have thought long and hard about whether the party deserves the $1.75 in public funding it would get from my vote in a Liberal stronghold, where the Conservative candidate is projected to lose by more than 15,000 votes.
First of all, you want a source on Harper talking about the Conservative government increasing CBC funding? Here you go. The relevant portion reads thusly (italics mine):
You may continue to say whatever you like about me, but the simple fact is that I am a conservative first and a Conservative second. When it comes to principle vs. partisanship, I choose principle. If that means I’m a lightning rod for criticism amongst party faithful, fine. I know where I stand.
Re: “Fire Them All” [at the CBC] I see that you’ve missed the latest outburst from Heather Mallick.
I wrote about it here: http://pelalusa.blogspot.com/2008/10/canadas-very-own-hatemonger-continues.html
It’s public property.
Let’s vandalizaweb it.
I gave up on the CBC when they caved in to the ottawa purse string holders putting pressure on them because of revelations in the sunday news show ‘this hour has seven days’.
currently renamed and reduced to comedy sketches ‘this hour has 22 minutes’.
would the whole miserable lot of them have 22 minutes remaining in their journalism careers.
I think the intolerant homophone (sic) might be a certain Ontario lawyer initials R.W.
As for intolerant homophobes, too bad there weren’t a few more in the House in 2003.
Then we wouldn’t be in this waist-deep sewage of socialist mind control, granted it would likely be knee-deep, but one learns to look for incremental or excremental change in this brave new world of Section 13.
“Dion was involved with the sovereignty movement, first as a teenager attending a Jesuit college in Quebec City, and later as a university student campaigning for Parti Québécois candidate Louise Beaudoin in the 1976 election.”
…
“Dion has said that his involvement as “an activist for the separatist cause” ended during a five-hour, rum-and-Coke fuelled discussion with a federalist household while he was going door-to-door for the PQ, but he did not openly commit to federalism until much later.”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St%C3%A9phane_Dion
Heck, if we’re talking history, let’s talk history.
Looks like another “five-hour, rum-and-Coke fuelled discussion” gave us the green shaft.
More background on CBC’s story and selective reporting:
“The CBC didn’t think that (Ryan) Schultz’s political bias or his own use of anti-homosexual epithets was worthy of reporting.
They did run to Lori Johnson, chair of the school board at the time Kennard wrote his letter, for comment, but without mentioning that she is an open lesbian and a chief promoter of the school board initiative that Kennard was opposing.
Nor did they mention that Anita Neville sat on the school board in 1999 and, perhaps, might have been instrumental in providing a researcher with a certain letter from a certain candidate…
And while we’re at it, the CBC might want to rummage through its own news library instead of relying on tips from political hacks. There they would find the stories done by their own I-Team on Liberal candidate Ray Simard…
CBC has never said whether their story was wrong, or whether Ray Simard, the current Liberal candidate in St. Boniface riding, dropped his lawsuit.”
http://blackrod.blogspot.com/2008/10/smell-fear.html
I’m embarrassed. As someone who worked on the fringes of the Betty Granger campaign and saw the wreckage that Anita Neville caused, I never linked her school board time with the Kennerd letter.
I’m shocked I let this slip by. Thankfully, blackrod rules, and does all the heavy lifting for us.
Trevor Kennerd, I’ve heard that he used to kick pigs or animals or something. Probably anti-PETA from the sounds of it.
Just kidding, I was a Bomber season ticket holder when he and Camron were the legs of the Blue & Gold.
Kate
I think this proves that for 1.1B a year we are in fact running a worm colony. I think we should all go fishing.
Syncro
So where did the original letter come from….and how did someone just come across it.
Homophone. That’s good. Fixed!
If it`s on the CBC–it`s a lie!! End of comment!
Posted by EBD at 8:59 PM:
“It’s an anti-democratic fraud and an insult to everyone who’s not an unthinking fan of the big-state lib/left.”
Yow! Zing! The veritable distilled essence of the issue.
Where can I view this letter? Can’t find it on the CBC.
Dave, it’s on the upper right side of the CBC site, under the “Related” heading.
and here:
http://www.cbc.ca/news/pdf/kennerd-letter.pdf
The Canuckistani Broadcorping Castration has still not seen fit to correct its depiction of Mr. Gerry Fast, as per the update from Marty Gold. Somebody badly needs a tarring and feathering.

“Ryan Schultz, who came across the letters while conducting research for a book on the local gay and lesbian community…”
My question – Did taxpayers money pay Ryan Schultz for his research project; if so, where is it? How much did it cost to produce – put a link on the CBC website to his book if he got a grant or any public subsidy.
CBC and CTV are frenzied in their panic to protect their Liberano masters. The net has had a MAJOR impact on this election – people are not answering or making up responses to pollsters – with inter-relational data basis if you answer a pollster, your voting intention is PUBLIC. If the Liberano’s were to win they would get rid of all Conservative supporting workers in the public service (I know this from a personal experience).
We must all thank Kate and other Bloggers for making Canada a fairer, safer and free nation. My post Oct 14 post for Kate: “SDA has now spoken for the people of Canada”
The CBC ran this story because they were fed the story….
Still waiting for complete transcripts of the broadcast as the excerpt provided by News Manager Cecil Rosner does not jive with the reports from those who listened.
The BRod is folling exactly the same train of thought that I have been …
1 – Anita Neville is losing her position and knows it
2 – Sends out the call to supporters to find something, anything to use against Kennerd
3 – Gets help from fellow activists on the school board
4 – CBC broadcasts it with aspersions on Mr. Kennerd’s characer
5 – CBC gets an earfull
6 – CBC defends this as simply reporting the news.
As far as I can see so far the CBC has violated at least five of their own supposed rules.
Neville’s own involvement in the ’99 events is what should be under review.
She is the one who has been holding a seat in parliament for 3 terms now.
What of her associations with left wing socialist radicals and what of her views on using the public school system to promote those radical agenda?
Now the timing becomes a serious issue as well.
The Kennerd story ran Monday at 6 PM;
On Tuesday morning at 10.30 was a scheduled head to head debate on CJOB ;
On Tuesday evening the CBC TV News at 6 debuted a puffball taped featurette “Coffee with the Candidate”, going into their house to discuss “everything from hobbies to politics”.
First candidate profiled: Anita Neville, who before becoming MP was “a school trustee (no mention of it being in Winnipeg 1), talking with Donna Carreiro about her favorite fiction author, the Tory making no bones about wanting to “make the Liberal party extinct’, and why the Liberal child care program is better than the NDP’s (who have no chance in the riding).
Never mentioned by name or even alluded to: Trevor Kennerd or, for that matter, Stephane Dion or the Green Shift.
