Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Good choice! Good humour, not to dumbed down nor snooty.
I usually see your links the next morning at work and can’t investigate. If they’re all of this standard I’ll have to make SDA standard bedtime reading.
Those were the good old days of comedy and television. Absolutely priceless! Today, this would be fodder for the PC police and the HRC’s.
This brought back some great memories of my dad as he watched these shows and comedians when I was a kid. In the related videos section of this on Youtube there’s some roasts on the Dean martin show where Don Rickles roasts Bob Hope and Ronald Reagan and they are priceless. This was before political correctness had run amok.
Thanks 4 the laughs and memories Vit.

Life with Obama
Abortion champion.
By David Freddoso
The tiny newborn baby made very little noise as he struggled to breathe. He lacked the strength to cry. He had been born four months premature.
“At that age,” says nurse Jill Stanek, “their lungs haven’t matured.”
Stanek is the nurse who found herself cradling this baby in her hands for all of his 45-minute lifetime. He was close to ten inches long and weighed perhaps half a pound. It’s just a guess — no one had weighed or measured him at birth. No happy family had been there to welcome him into the world. No one was trying to save his life now, putting him into an incubator, giving him oxygen or nourishment. He had just been left to die.

I’m glad you liked tonight’s selection, C_Miner, Gypsy, and Glenn. I’ve mentioned this here before, yet it’s probably not a bad idea to reiterate it from time to time. Our objective here in the SDA LNR studios is to pursue the breadth of genres and the depth of time, within the scope of the SDA market.
Time has obvious limitations, due to the history of recording technology, though we did manage to hit 1899 last night. Genre is more tricky. Let’s be honest, I’m not going to post stuff here that I think would be inappropriate for this venue. We don’t do angry or strident music at SDA LNR; there’s enough of that in the comments already. On the other hand, there are items that I personally like and yet that I will still not post here (usually because they are modern works with inappropriate videos).
So it’s a mixed bag in practice, the short form label for which is generally agreed to be eclectic, and that seems to be well received. It’s a funny thing to say, yet I see SDA LNR as a brand (or sub-brand, really) that has a market to serve, so that’s what we aim for in the studios.
In order to achieve that your feedback is always welcome and indeed is necessary, so thanks for your feedback. Also, you may wish to see the omnipresent SDA Late Nite Radio link for some Guest DJ details and for, of course, the entire SDA LNR Archives.

I watched a piece on CTV Newsnet tonight on the brutal slaughter of three aid workers and their driver, two were Canadian. Sad and tragic for their families, these women gave up much to help other women over in that hell-hole…… They were driving unarmed in a marked humanitarian vehicle, which should have given them a measure of safety, but the Taliban don’t care about niceties and killed them anyways. CTV had the flipping audacity and ignorance to put a short clip of Flora MacDonald stating that when she was over there they frequently drove around in unmarked vehicles so they could easily blend in with the locals… This is outrageous. These women were in a marked vehicle and slaughtered. The only reason that I can think of that Ctv would air Flora’s remarks is to plant a seed of doubt in Canadian’s minds and maybe justify the Taliban’s actions. CTV,the Canadian Taliban Version, just f’en despicable.

Wallyj: There will always be those who will blame us for whatever the enemy does to us. At home we got the same treatment from the same suspects when WWll first began. Mr. Hitler was too formidable to oppose and we best just go along to get along. Then came Mr. Stalin. He really wanted peace but those terrible Americans would not let him be and just kept advancing the arms race. Ho Chi Min was just trying to reunite his country and fighting valiantly against a corrupt regime propped up by those terrible Americans.
And 9/11 was the American’s own fault!
For an eye opener, go to an arts college graduation ceremony and see who is graduating in the arts (and journalism). You will find it interesting indeed.
Ah well then, Mr. I’m Afraid of Dance, you probably won’t be interested in our June 7, 2008, SDA LNR show, featuring Cyd Charisse and Ricardo Montalbán dancing the tango Orchids in the Moonlight from the movie On an Island with You, featuring Xavier Cugat and his orchestra (1948, 2:28).
A Canadian archer (Jay Lyons of Winterpeg) has made the 1/8 elim’s and will shoot again on Friday. Curiously it’s a big story on CBC. Well okay I could find no mention of it on CBC even though he’s knocked off a couple of the medal hopefuls along the way.

New – you don’t get brain damage – you get dain bramage! You propably newer been in ring ring ring. Woudl some1 plese get dat?
Wallyj,
watched the same newscast 20 mins ago and had the same reaction. “If we weren’t over there the Taliban wouldn’t have to kill us.” How pathetic. Watch the slaughter which is about to occur over in Georgia and see the excuses the msm will use to justify the Russian genocide. I guess karma is a bitch for the EU now that they have to get their energy from the bear. Don’t like Amerikkka you say, well than let’s see what’s behind door #2.
Also, latest harris-decima poll has liebs out in front of the cons. 9% lead in ON and 6% lead in Que. I guess they are buying into Dion’s NEP II afterall. The in-out scheme is starting to hurt the cons as well I believe, the kangaroo court is having its desired effect. The optics are terrible for the CPC on this one.

Regarding the murdered aid workers in Af’gan, please note that there were something like 27 aid workers killed so far in 2008 and 14 or 17 in 2007.
The death rate of aid workers is FAR outstripping the death rate of Canadian soldiers over the last year and a half…why are there no cries to “bring home our aid workers”? (He asks rhetorically)
The Liberals may not have much money but they’re doing what they do best, lying. They’re lying their way through summer, it’s free until they get caught out.
In the summer recess, when the pollsters love to do polling, we get results of the Liberal lying, they go up in the polls. This is most evident in Ontario where Toronto bucks up the numbers because it’s the city of brain free voting, all Liberal, all the time.
Some evidence of the same in Quebec except they play a different game, it’s all about Quebec, they play all Parties like a fiddle.
We don’t need pollsters telling us how to vote, it’s a form of interference in our democratic process. They’re always skewed, the questions are phrased to get the results desired by the Party they represent.

TorStar: New poll puts federal Liberals ahead in Ontario, Quebec
http://www.thestar.com/News/Canada/article/478140
“According to The Canadian Press/Harris-Decima survey, the Liberals have pulled ahead in Ontario and Quebec… The telephone poll of just more than 1,000 Canadians was conducted Aug. 7-10…”
We all know that the Canadian Press are real fans of the CPC. (sarc/off) ‘Wonder what the questions were?
Fortunately, there’s an antidote of sorts to this poll poison by Gerry Nicholls in the Toronto Sun:
Is Dion Getting Delusional?
http://www.torontosun.com/Comment/2008/08/14/6444441-sun.html
“I mean let’s be honest. The Dion-led Liberals have about as much chance of winning an election this fall as John Edwards has of being named Husband of the Year.”
When I’m tempted to get depressed about the lying media and their lying polls, I remember the election of 2006 and, frankly, most elections. The media “seers” are rarely correct in their predictions.
“Rule #6: Once you ask a question, listen to the answer. Public figures are taught how to deflect questions by raising or answering a different one than what is asked.
Here’s an example. Question: “Why was Sunrise Propane legally allowed to set up next door to us when everyone within 1.6 km of the plant was advised by the police to run after it blew up? If everyone within 1.6 km was in danger, why was it given permission to operate across the street from our neighbourhood?”
Here’s how a politician might deflect this question:
Answer: “That’s a very good question. First, I’d ask you to join me in congratulating our police, firefighters and paramedics on the wonderful job they did.”
Then he’ll start applauding, until the audience joins in.
Then he’ll continue, “one of the things I hope to learn from you tonight is how we can improve our emergency response in these situations … blah, blah, blah.”
See? The politician deflected the question and trapped the audience into agreeing with him.”

“SAUDI ARABIA: BURNT ALIVE FOR CHANGING RELIGION”

The sentence could not be appealed: guilty for converting to Christianity, a young Saudi woman was set alight by her father, who first had cut her tongue. Not an ordinary father, but a member of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Against Vice, a sort of police watching over the moral behaviour of the citizens of Saudi Arabia and the full compliance with the rules of the rigid Wahabi doctrine.

Unconfirmed rumors also have swirled since the July 28 attack that al Qaeda No. 2 Ayman al-Zawahiri was either killed or seriously wounded in the same operation. An audiotape in which al-Zawahiri speaks out against Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf was recently released in an odd manner, in that it was given directly to a Pakistani news channel rather than via al Qaeda’s usual release pattern of having As-Sahab Media upload it directly to the Internet. The tape, in which al-Zawahiri speaks in English for the first time in a public pronouncement, is not convincing proof that al-Zawahiri was not wounded or killed. Obviously, al-Zawahiri’s loss would be another serious blow to the organization.
Al Qaeda’s current problems are nothing new. In fact, the United States and its allies have been attacking al Qaeda’s operational infrastructure consistently since 9/11. While the United States has not yet located and killed the al Qaeda apex leadership, it has done a very good job of eliminating senior operational commanders — the men in the al Qaeda hierarchy who actually plan and direct the militant Islamist group’s operations. The nature of their position means the operational commanders must have more contact with the outside world, and therefore become more vulnerable to being located and killed or captured…

The “Great Firewall,” the common moniker for China’s filtering system that blocks various Internet addresses and keywords, really only pertains to Internet sites and services hosted on computer servers outside China. Inside China, companies that host Web sites, blogs and chat rooms are held responsible for objectionable content posted on their services. All of China’s blog-hosting services, YouTube-style video sharing sites and the like hire entire departments of people to flag and delete things that may get them in trouble with the government authorities who could revoke their business license…

Why is Bombardier advertising so much during the Olympics? (BTW, the only time that CBC isn’t blocked on my TV is during the Olympics, so maybe these advertisements are year round.)
What purpose does this serve? Do they think I’m going to pick up the phone and buy some trains from them?
And if there is no expected return on these advertisements, how can Bombardier justify recieving handouts from the government? Maybe the next time Bombardier requests federal money, we should say “Sure thing!” and give them a load of time slots during “Little Mosque”. Those must be worth a fortune!
And can a person file a freedom of information request with the CBC to find out how much advertising Bombardier purchases from the CBC annually?
(The other one that disturbs me is seeing the Ontario alcohol monopoly advertising on the Food Network in Alberta, but hey, you Ontarioaniteians can spend your money how you wish…)

Liz,you are just showing your ‘pro-Con’ slant on the hearings!!!!….if you want an un-biased,honest and open report of this gong-show,just read the live-blathering by the always partisan Kitty Kady. That is almost worse than having to watch proceedings live. This farce, and Kady ‘reporting’ on what footwear Pat Martin is wearing,as opposed to the totally one-sided gang-bang on the Cons is an absolute horror.
Further to prior post, and the always over the top Pat Martin, this am he likened the ‘no-show’ witnesses to this circus,to witnesses in Hell’s Angels trials ‘disappearing’..and just now,he referred to Cons.side of the panel,as ‘Darwin’s waiting room’ Interesting to see him request a lunch break when Cons ask Mayrand to confirm ‘open’ investigations into Olivia Chow, and Lib party(specifically Dion)Almost seems the panel not so interested in hearing from Mayrand at this turn of events!
About the father who set his daughter aflame, having cut her tongue (out?) beforehand, because she had become a Christian:
“Not an ordinary father, but a member of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Against Vice…”
I guess in the Alternative Universe of radical Islam, mutilation and murder are virtues not vices.
I don’t think I’ve read, ever or anywhere, that a Christian father has set his daughter on fire and cut her tongue out for either not going to church or for converting to another faith.
Has anyone else?
But the charade of moral equivalence between Islam and Christianity continues apace in our chattering classes: Every religion is as bad as the other.
In the meantime, I’m off to my Christian church to help give hospitality and dinner to over 100 homeless people…who don’t have to prove their Christian, or any other, affiliation in order to be served. Are there any mosques around feeding the homeless?

That’s called the Westminster parliamentary system Liz J, and the functioning of the committee I think is according to the rules set under our constitution. I think your concern centres around the POLITICIANS (and I suggest, every political party) and their behavior. Sadly, politicians are grease sucking pigs, the lot of them.
It isn’t the process that fouls the source, it’s the inputs. And Canadian political discourse mirrors that of most of the democratized world.
Build more basketball courts!
Is this sarcasm from the Gaz?
…-
“No more money for elite sports
The Gazette”
“So here’s our proposal: Instead of spending one penny more on elite sport, let’s put any additional money we have for athletics, at every level of government, into building a few basketball courts in Montreal North, and all the Montreal Norths across the country, and for that matter every neighbourhood in the country.”
http://tinyurl.com/5ajay9
Yeah, maz2: Build more basketball courts!!!!!!!
I know you feel the same way as I do about building more basketball courts, Moro…er…Mayor Miller’s and every other left-hat’s solution to everything.
Why do you think the left-hats haven’t figured out that no matter how many basketball courts you build, it’s not going to make a rat’s ass of a difference to what ails us?
Look, at Jane and Finch and in Montreal North, you can make $15,000 a drug deal. What basketball court is going to act as a disincentive to THAT?
I say bring back tough love, which means corporal punishment in our homes and in our schools, do away with the UN’s “kids’ rights,” and expect parents to start acting like adults instead of their kids’ “best” friends.
NOW, those are initiatives that would get results. The other thing we need to do, is to look at all of the kids living in poverty who DON’T turn to drugs and violent crime, and find out what the common elements are. Emulate and encourage those factors rather than build friggin’ basketball courts.
I have long suspected that what you’ll find as a common thread through the situations of kids who live in poverty but turn out just great are involved fathers and church support, two variables that the left-hats run from like vampires from garlic.
Re kids turning out just great: Another common factor would be fantastic single moms who’ve made their children their priority and who are available to them because of great sacrifices on their part.
Thanks, wallyj, for the heads-up on the Calgary mosque. I’d love to see Muslims helping out their fellow man on the scale that Christians, the world over, do. It would make for a much more caring society.
Way to go $telmach, you d!ckwad. Hey Enkidu, tell me how wrong I am again? Way to go SK and BC, congrats on your new “advantage.”
VANCOUVER — British Columbia and Saskatchewan raked in another huge haul of cash from eager energy companies hunting for natural gas in northeast B.C. and oil in southeast Saskatchewan.
The results of the latest auction of exploration rights, published Thursday morning on the respective government websites, show that British Columbia pulled in $502-million, its second-biggest single sale ever, behind the $610-million received last month.
Saskatchewan attracted $243-million, also its second-biggest auction. Its four sales this year are its four best ever.
The results clearly demonstrate energy companies are still in a wild rush to pick up new exploration acreage in areas that have been known to contain natural gas and oil but only recently have been unlocked with new drilling technology.
The numbers also show that energy explorers have shifted geographic focus away from Alberta, in part because of increased royalties in the province but more so because the best new opportunities sit in lightly explored areas, such as rugged and remote northeastern B.C. The two hot plays there are known as the Montney – where gas is trapped in tight rock – and Horn River, where gas is contained in even harder to crack shale rock.
In southeastern Saskatchewan, the hot play is the Bakken, where oil is trapped in tight rock similar to the natural gas in B.C.
The latest sale pushes B.C.’s take so far this year to $2.08-billion, more than double last year’s record – and there are still four sales to go.
Saskatchewan is now at $848-million – more than triple last year’s record year – and is on pace to crack $1-billion with two auctions remaining in 2008.
Alberta, meanwhile, is having one of its worst years since the 1980s. It has collected $741-million to date and it will be the first time, if trends continue, that Alberta not only ranks behind British Columbia but also Saskatchewan in the auction of new exploration rights.

Not that I take much notice of polls but this one is at least positive for the CPC. http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Politics/2008/08/14/6449551-cp.html What I find amazing is “The plan includes measures aimed at halving the number of Canadians living in poverty.” Can someone plse explain to me how a plan that is suppose to reduce the carbon footprint and revenue neutral will reduce people in poverty. If the green tax is going to increase tax on business to offset personal taxes then businesses will relocate out of the country where they will receive preferential government support and lower labour costs. The poverty levels in Canada will increase as good jobs disappear from an intolerant fed govt. This is a scam for a Lib govt to take more money out of our pockets, maintain income tax and add a superficial additional “green tax” to augment the money required fund their socialist utopia. You’ll be able to get cheap daycare for your kiddies but you’ll only have minimum wage jobs left as industry flees the Liberal anti-economic business environment.
