  7. The earnest are the easiest to mock. Obambi supporters are nothing, if not earnest (defined as “characterized by a firm and humorless belief in the validity of your opinions”).
    On the other hand, most of us right wingers support McCain with an ironic distance, since we didn’t choose him, crossover Democrats did. Kind of sets up a dangerous humor dynamic that is not to Obama’s advantage.

  8. I saw it the same way you guys did – but I’m a young white guy born and raised in a small town inCanada where the people who didn’t look like me – I could count on one hand. If someone from a different background with different experiences(see my previous post) saw the ad differently than why should I judge their view as wrong. I can’t compare my judgement on race relations to someone who grew up in the deep south and through the time of Jim Crow laws, and vigilante lynchings that’s all I’m saying.

    I will mention that most Americans have bent themselves into pretzels to accommodate, elevate, educate, hire, admire and make friends of the black community. Many of Obama’s pals, preachers and associates have completely missed that point.
    Black people are their own worst enemies. As Bill Cosby, Thomas Sowell, Condi Rice, and any other of the intelligent, self-made successful black folks in America and they will agree with me.
    Africa, the continent that is largely populated and ruled by black people is the most miserable failure one can possibly imagine. Why is that? Jamaica is no shining example of Black pride either.
    Most white people want black people to be successful, I know I do. We are just tired of being blamed for what they do to themselves.
    And by the by. The southern USA is a very different place now than it was fifty years ago. Things have changed in the greatest country in the world. Those of you (todd) who are still beating on behalf of the formerly persecuted blacks in America need to change too.

    As anyone who has been paying attention understands, the devolution of all discussions on how Obama is criticized in the campaign was a forgone conclusion. It was not a matter of whether or not it would become the default position of Democrats that ALL opposition/ criticism is a a racist conspiracy. It was only a question of when it would take hold.
    The default position of the LEFT is ALWAYS … to shut down debate with claims of racist motivation lobbed at the other side. Need any more examples??

    Things change when the time and conditions are right for it. It is too bad that history unfolded too slowly to suit you, but that’s how it is.
    FYI I am a brown person (mediterranean) I grew up in a quite white small town back in the fifties and sixties. I didn’t have a separate drinking fountain, but I was very obviously exluded from the cliques at my high school. I have been called some pretty unsavory names … ‘wop’ and ‘greaser’ come to mind. I felt bad at the time, had a few fist fights too, but when I grew up, I realized that was then and this is now. I know that those same people feel differently now because later in life some of them became good friends and they grew up too.
    Perhaps I know more than you think about this topic.

    And those who _didn’t_ grow up in that time have no excuse for their insistence on living in a past they didn’t even experience.

    Well said. I thought it was rather obvious what the ad was about. To me, it appeared the ad did presume upon one stereotype – that one being … blondes. The narrator used the word celebrity at the same time that the two women in question were shown.
    I thought it obvious that the message conveyed was that Obama’s policies are as well thought out as the thought processes that a sterotypical blonde would put into the same policies. Now, whether that sterotype is justifiable or not is another matter.
    The only race displayed in the ad was the Presidential one.

  19. Racial stereotyping and typecasting will continue on forever mainly because people like Sharpton, Jackson, Herbert et al are profiting by the industry and it is an industry. I have lived down south and believe me there are some people who, if you talk to them would have you believe that only last year they were pickin’ cotton for the evil white master. These same peole will actually come out and say you can never understand because you aren’t black. It is kind of like some Indo-Canadians are still miffed about 1914 and their forefathers not reading the fine print. Some people are never happy. The sins of my forefathers are not mine.
    btw, it is also tough being a middle aged, married, heterosexual, gun owning, non-vegan, english speaking, middle class tax paying dude too. Everything seems to be my fault.
    FYI, like everything else, not all of the “oppressed” people are whiners, most are real people trying to get along in life. I have met, worked with and have friends of every flavour and it all boils down to who they are as a person, period.

    I said earlier I didn’t see the racism in the ad, my point was – if some people do see it then what’s so strange about that in terms of theories that go around on the left and right. Yes things have gotten better in the US for blacks, and I’m a personal responsibility kind of guy so don’t give me that victim crap, but to pretend that the past has nothing to do with the present is just sticking yr head in the sand. Everything now is the way it is because of what came before.

    Lots and lots of non-Jews are powerful in media, but you’ve formed your question as being directed specifically at Jews. Thus, in order to deal with your question about the media’s behaviour re: Obama, we are expected to accept that we are really talking about Jews.
    Had you asked simply about the media’s behaviour, your question would be reasonable and worthy of answering. But by singling out Jews, you have let your anti-Semitism ooze out.
    As for the media’s behaviour over Obama, I agree that it is starting to backfire. The Jews have nothing to do with it.

    Go back and read Kathy Shaidles comment. You are completely missing the point. Whatever was back then is not what it is now. Get into the present. We live in the present. It is the only time plane we are able to inhabit. The past is hindsight.The hind is an ass. Don’t be an ass.
    To continue lamenting the bad shit that has already happened is a clear sign of a dead mind a stunted spirit and an unprogressive attitude.
    And ‘progressive’ doesn’t mean what the left defines it as. It actually means to move forward. Funny how they got that so backward too.

  29. Jon Stewart did an amusing bit on this laughably lame claim. The clip showed The One preaching with the two foam-covered microphones graphically encircled in white (!!! in white !!!) and referred to them as subliminal representations of Obambi’s big black balls.
    I’ve had a theory all along that when Obambi’s airheadedness became fully manifest — when he became the butt of jokes on TV talk shows, he’d be toast.
    My only quibble about the ads is the gratuitous insult to Brittany Spears and Paris Hilton who sold their crap honestly to willing buyers in the free market.

    Tex, you couldn’t have hit that nail more squarely! That is precisely why there continues to be such a division persisting in the US – after all, what would those guys do for a living if real harmony was to finally take root? And seeing a couple of fight-for-their-ratings cable news guys wade into it in a laughable attempt to manipulate the thoughts of those (woefully many) who prefer not to think for themselves for precisely the same reason is reprehensible.
    And Me No Dhimmi, I missed the Stewart episode but he is the most unapologetic true blue democrat there is and he obviously views the whole thing as absurd as well.
    Having said that, I did think the ad was pretty tasteless but then I object to Paris or Lindsay ever getting undeserved publicity.

Both are almost exclusively lefty industries. In the last two elections the Jewish vote was 76% voted for Kerry, 79% for Gore. I doubt that their will be that big of a change in the numbers this election.
    Obama would throw Israel under the bus in a heartbeat. Black leadership has history of anti-Semitism from Jessie Jacskson’s “Hymietown” to Louis Farrakan to ex-Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney dad’s smear at Jews. My comment and question weren’t unreasonable. How can this disconnect with Jewish voters be explained? My theory is that too many white liberals are self-loathing creatures. You don’t serve up degrading racial stereotypes of whites as a white like Olbermann and Alter did unless you are self-loathing. It’s my opinion and you can extrapolate your own conclusions by the numbers.

What does that prove? Nothing. With any identifiable group one can find a “disproportionate number” involved in any number of endeavours.
    Are all “Jewish controlled” media liberal? Are all “non-Jewish controlled” media not liberal? Or is the issue here really the liberal media?
    You make a switch from talking about “Jewish voters” to “white liberals” as if they are one and the same. Are all Jewish voters white liberals? (Not according to the stats you quoted). Are all white liberals Jewish?
    You could have chosen to focus on an industry (the media). Or you could have chosen to focus on a political philosophy (liberals). Or the two combined (liberal media).

  43. Todd, I grew up in the south. Arkansas, then university in Louisiana, and work in Tennessee. My family was racist. My grandmother blacked the whole day off the calendar when Martin Luther King Jr day was proclaimed a holiday.
    Guess what? All those people in my family are now dead, and I don’t know of a single cousin who is racist today.
    In my own case, being gay is probably the reason I am not racist. I knew the family was wrong about the gay people, so I knew it was possible they were wrong about blacks, jews, catholics, and Mexicans too.

  45. I didn’t think the ad was racist, I was referring to the way the links were written on this site and I too believe cries of racism only hurt Obama. Did Obama himself ever say this ad was racist? No way. Never happened. Did McCain claim Obama secretly leaked his prayer note to the press? No. Both theories are stupid and spread by the very same people condemning the theories. I internet is making us all stupid. BTW whoever said I was progressive – take it back – I can’t stand those people who don’t believe in personal responsibility – I wouldn’t call myself conservative either – more of an existentialist with some Christian values of the Dostoyevsky and Thomas Jefferson variety.(at odds with each other in someways but the key being independent thought, rather than a restricting ideology)

    You think I jest? I have seen bar fights start over it. Not that you need a good excuse for a dust up in a saloon here in Alberta.
    Yeah I am a guy, but I watch the watchers if you know what I mean. Always have when it came to observing human behavior in action. Personally speaking never felt the need to “compare”. Quite happy with what God gave me. I do enjoy the humor of others insecurities that manifest themselves in odd behaviors. I find my own even funnier.

  50. Come to think of it, that is one decent justification for strict gun control, better barfights. I have seen a bar fight break out in Australia over the guys watching one guy’s hot girlfriend dance. Over a guy who thought he got short changed at a bar, .. and over stuff where I had no idea what happend. Now I see a report of a barfight, however suspect, in Canada over urinal peeking… In the US, I have never seen a barfight over something that trivial, probably because gunplay might soon follow. Keeps people civilized, but a rousing good barfight… hmmm… I may have to rethink my position.
