Reader Tips

Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. Tonight, for your delectation and pursuant to our Saturday night contemporary music show, here are Chicago performing 25 or 6 to 4, live in Amsterdam, in 1969 (4:49).

Your Reader Tips are, as always, welcome in the comments, and if you like, pick Continuing Reading for my dedication of this song to late nite bloggers.

If you follow the links above you will find that there is some controversy over the intended meaning of the lyrics, but then, if there wasn’t it wouldn’t be a poem, would it? And so it is that to the degree that the lyrics are ambiguous, they can be re-interpreted post-hoc into new contexts. Thus I dedicate this song to all the late nite bloggers:

Waiting for the break of day
Searching for something to say
Flashing lights against the sky
Giving up I close my eyes
Sitting cross-legged on the floor

Staring blindly into space
Getting up to splash my face
Wanting just to stay awake
Wondering how much I can take
Should I try to do some more

Feeling like I ought to sleep
Spinning room is sinking deep
Searching for something to say
Waiting for the break of day

With the proviso that where it says “Flashing lights against the sky” you should substitute your twinkling browser windows.

  1. Chickle of the day.
How do you starve a farmer?
    Weld his mailbox shut.
Cdn version should say have the Canadian Wheat Board sell his grain!

  2. Chicago~: As a man who was wont to overdo reverb in his youth, I especially appreciate the tight, crunchy, DRY sound. HOT. Thanks Vitruvius.

  3. A chickle is a chuckle you don’t chuck out! It’s also quieter, more subtle. Not unlike a titter.

  4. Good news: Obama is tanking:
“The race for the White House is tied. The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Saturday shows Barack Obama and John McCain each attract 43% of the vote. When “leaners” are included, Obama holds a statistically insignificant 47% to 46% advantage. Today is the first time that McCain’s support has moved above 45% since Obama clinched the nomination on June 3.

For most of the past month-and-a-half, Obama has led McCain by approximately five percentage points.”

  5. The Salutin piece of “journalistic” faecal matter linked above says it all about the moribund state of the newspaper industry.
A tree-murdering industry has the temerity to take a swipe at our PM for ‘piling on’ to Zimbabwe? WTF!!! The rag cannot go out of business soon enough for staining our country in such a manner.

  7. The end result of Salutin’s socialism: It’s PM Harper’s fault.
    Zimbabwe:
One butternut squash = 30 billion dollars.
    One month’s wages = 28 billion dollars.
Conclusion: Salutin is a sob; a socialist, gobsucking parasite.

    News – July 2008
    “I am failing them
    Saturday 12th July 2008
    Dear Family and Friends,
In the main supermarket in my home town this weekend there were too many empty shelves to count. In the fortnight since Mr Mugabe was sworn in as President for his sixth term, everyday life has gone from struggle to complete crisis. No one is coping now and in the last two weeks virtually all foodstuffs, toiletries and household goods have completely disappeared from stores. On what should have been a busy weekend morning in our once thriving town, the car park was virtually empty and the only things to buy in the cavernous supermarket were cabbages, butternut squash, lemons, fizzy drinks and a few packets of meat.
“Where are all your goods?” I asked one shop attendant.
“There is nothing,” he said, “the suppliers say they have nothing to deliver.”
I stood while he weighed the butternut squash I had chosen and exclaimed in shock at the 30 billion dollar price sticker he fixed to the vegetable.
“Can I show you something?” the man said and before I could answer he took his most recent pay slip out of his pocket. For an entire month the shop assistant had earned just 28 billion dollars – not even enough to buy one single butternut squash.”

  8. Sammy (and others)-
The Garth will get a chance to explain himself Thursday, July 17 as he will be a guest panelist on CTS-TV Michael Coren Show at 8 pm Eastern, repeating next day at noon. Other panelists are Conservative Jeff Watson and NDP’s Peggy Nash.

  9. Socialism is a pyramid scheme.
Sikhdom is an untouchable pyramid scheme.
    The HRC agrees.
One cannot move down or up.
Two upper caste Sikhs learn a painful lesson from/about the HRCs.
The lowest “untouchable” Sikhs will not allow the upper caste Sikhs to become members. The HRCs agree.
“Dalits”, formerly referred to as “untouchables” are still “untouchables”; “Dalits” love their untouchability. They remain bound by their invisible chains.
This is the caste system brought to Canada by the PET Cemetery; remember, PET’s “Zap, you’re frozen”.
The HRC agrees; the Sikh untouchables are untouchable; frozen Sikhs.

“Two Sikhs lose B.C. rights challenge
    Temple can limit membership
VANCOUVER — The B.C. Hu-man Rights Tribunal has dismissed a complaint by two members of the Indo-Canadian community who were denied membership in a Burnaby Sikh temple because of their social ranking in India’s caste system.
Gurshinder Sahota and Sohan Shergill said they were discriminated against by the Shri Guru Ravidass Sabha Temple because they belong to a higher caste in the traditional system of social ranking than do temple members.
Caste is a complex and much-maligned hierarchy that has historically divided Indian society according to occupational categories.
The 900 members of the Shri Guru Ravidass Sabha Temple belong to the lowest group, Dalits, formerly referred to as “untouchables” and often considered outside the caste system altogether. Sahota and Shergill are from the jat caste, which is traditionally a land-owning class in the Punjab and now makes up much of Metro Vancouver’s Sikh community.”

  10. Regarding Maz2’s Sikh link, you can see the BC HRT’s thinking: stick it to the perceived “oppressors”, and not realize that by doing so the concept of caste is welcomed with open arms into Canada, allegedly the land of equality. Idiots.

  11. MSM sets up for Citoyen Dion and LizzMay, aka the Red-Green Show.
Barf, the Gooroo, will advise that the GreenShafters must immediately press conference in Hafilax to announce that the GreenShaft will give a windfall of $3,200 to each voter in the province of Nova Scotia.
Now, from which province will Red-Green get/transfer/steal $3,200?
    U-Know-Where; it starts with “A”.
    Here is the money quote:
“For 22 years the federal and provincial governments were unable to agree on terms until October 2007, when Prime Minister Stephen Harper and MacDonald agreed in principle to settling the dispute.”
    …-
“Nova Scotia expecting big payday on Sunday
Nova Scotia stands to make a nearly $1 billion windfall on Sunday upon arriving at an agreement with the federal government over ownership rights of offshore resources.
Provincial premier Rodney MacDonald and Defence Minister Peter MacKay are to make an announcement today confirming the Crown Share Adjustment Payment, pegged by government sources to be worth more than $800 million.
“In 1986, Nova Scotia ceded many of its rights to revenues from offshore drilling in exchange for a future payment of similar value. For 22 years the federal and provincial governments were unable to agree on terms until October 2007, when Prime Minister Stephen Harper and MacDonald agreed in principle to settling the dispute.
The money will likely pay down part of the province’s debt.
In the unlikely circumstance that the money is handed over to the citizens of the Maritime province, each resident would stand to make more than $1,600 from the transfer.”

  12. I loved that band. Terry Kath was the heart of Chicago – when he died the magic was gone. I saw them play at the CNE in 74 – still have the ticket stub – $5.50. Top price if my memory serves ws $6.50. I still play all the old stuff – recently got a CD of Chicago VII. Just like their first two albums, it really stands up.

  13. maz2: Conclusion: Salutin is a[n] sob; a socialist, gobsucking parasite.
Agreed, maz2. I occasionally see him in my ‘hood, and am always struck by his unwholesome looks: a bit like the night of the living dead, even though he’s walking in broad daylight.
I guess having opinions like his shows up in his face, sort of like the portrait of Dorian Gray. We become what we think…

  14. MSM doesn’t put this headline up:
Liberal MP told he should pay back $13Gs.
MSM doesn’t put this headline up:
Librano$, aka Citoyen Dion Liberal$, ordered to pay back $100,000,000+ to Canadians.
    >>> But, imagine! Canadians are on the streets protesting against the Liberal$. In TO, even.
Kudos to Gord Moore and Brayden Akers, 20.
    It’s a first. More, please.
Who is the Liberal MP double-dipper?
John Godfrey, Liberal MP Don Valley West, TO. Until 01 August, 2008.

  15. Chicago – always loved how they worked the horn section into their tunes. Definitly a part of the sound track to my squandered youth.
By the by is the ‘Blogging Tories’ page stuck/frozen on from a day ago ? – or just my computer..

  16. One (1) Red Tory, one (1) socialist-NDP, two (2) socialist-Liberals, one (1) with political party undisclosed.
    Transfer payments it’s called, eh?
The fraud/scam was a good thing while it lasted. The total loot is, no doubt, much more than this:
“The auditor general found the five MHAs overspent their allowances by nearly $1.6-million between 1998 and 2006.”
    …-
“Newfoundland sues to recoup cash from five ex-politicians”

  17. maz2: Thanks for the highly significat Sikh story. I live in Vancouver not far from the Sikh City of Surrey.
On another thread, someone opined that the Wahhabi phony Soharwardy (sp?) may have dropped his complaint against Levant out of concern that the HRCs may turn the table on the Muslims. I found that view charmingly naive. Your link supports my cynicism. The customs of “the other”, it seems, are sacrosanct in Canada, eh?

  18. Godfrey isn’t concerned for his health by “not taking a holiday” from his taxing job as a Liberal MP? Jeezus, another Liberal so conveniently dedicated to HIS cause.
Wasn’t it Godfrey who was all concerned about his health, used it as an excuse to bow out of the Librano leadership race?
Guess he had a miraculous/divine intervention.

  19. I don’t know if you people have listened to the Crime stoppers commercials lately. Now they include hate crimes like jokes, slurs, profiling, & a bunch of other stuff only the HRC,s would promote. There using this organization to normalize hurt feelings as a misdeed. They even included racial jokes as a crime. I am outraged that these Marxist, Islamists ninnies have now destroyed another effective crime preventing tool by making it politicizes instead of a real crime line.
Its not crime stoppers anymore its the Beria Brigade rat line for the thought police.
What worries me most is they include in the radio ad a list of real felonies to call about in a real bad situation. The bogus hate crimes added to the real crimes as normal, thus telling people being slurred or feeling hurt is now a transgression of the law. Who pays for this now? Us again to be persecuted by there ( these busy bodies with dollars signs in there eyes) definitions of crime, not even part of the criminal code, except the HRC‘s. I am so mad I could spit radioactive nails.
Look behind this rock folks & you will find the same slime at work.
This is no coincidence, this is a campaign to re- normalize them. Who is behind it & do they have government sanction to corrupt a good program for citizen action against lawlessness?
I can’t believe this is happening in Alberta, but I guess you go for the pillar (conservative) before the post (NDP). In the end these soft fascists will engulf them as well.

  20. Did anyone have nothing better to do than to watch CTV’s QP today with Giggles and McGoo?
If so, wasn’t it a warm and fuzzy Liberal love in?
Guess they can’t really take that program off for the Summer, who would take over the slagging of Harper and the Conservatives?

  21. Stephane Dion is a dual-citizen of Canada-France.
He describes himself as “a citizen of the planet”, “a proud Quebecer, a proud Canadian”, and, a “human being above all”.
Dion does not mention his French citizenship.
Here is Dion describing his pride:
“”The sense to be a citizen of the planet has always been, in my case, a strong motivation,” Dion said. “Yes, I’m a proud Quebecer, a proud Canadian, but I’m a human being above all.”
    http://tinyurl.com/6hh2fp (canpress)
Why doesn’t Citoyen Dion describe himself as a proud Frenchmen?
Is Dion ashamed of his French citizenship?
Is Dion ashamed of his French government’s active complicity/participation in the genocide in Rwanda in 1994?
Is Dion, being a French citizen, ipso facto, guilty of genocide?
Are these the facts of which Citoyen Dion is ashamed?
    [Genocide in Rwanda]
“”*People all around us writhed and screamed in pain. Others lay dead as relatives and friends wailed. … The wounded came in wave after wave,” he writes, describing the scene at the hospital.”
“*He [Orbinski] describes how the French government continued to supply arms to murderous Hutu government forces.”
    …-
“*A humanitarian hero on the front lines
Former médecins sans frontières chief James Orbinski, who grew up in Montreal, provides a profoundly moving account of his work in Rwanda, Somalia, Yugoslavia and elsewhere”

  22. I agree — the Salutin piece was totally bizarre. Pure venom, no perspective, and very unprofessional. What’s with that guy?
