  1. I grabbed this from Warrens own site. It is pretty much his resume.although they didnt rank punk rockers I suspect they are down there too.
An Angus Reid poll that you’ll not see reported tomorrow
“In the online survey of a representative national sample, a large majority of Canadians say they have a great deal or a fair amount of respect for doctors (94%), police officers (83%) and teachers (83%). At the bottom end are politicians (25%) lawyers, (44%) and journalists (49%).
The professionals who endured the most noticeable decline are journalists. In 2008, less than half of all respondents say they have a great deal or a fair amount of respect for journalists (49%), compared to 73 per cent in 1984

  2. Progressive opinion
at its finest as written on the Australian broadcasting ABC website linked with the usual hilarious commentary by the Great Steyn (“Bill was denied, people died”) via Tim Blair.

Will the author, Bob Ellis, learn to love America again, or at least respect it in the morning, when Obama is elected? Hand-wringing American liberals can only hope.
And here I’d thought the Supreme Court and the Left in general were talking about something else when arguing in favor of the “oral tradition.”

  4. 1215 – so you don’t like cops! 1215 – is that the number below your mug shot?

  5. This pity party for Ms.Martin has gotten past ridiculous.first the msm blasts the Cons/PMSH for not doing enough..now,they are bitching about the lengths they went to to get the thankless bi*ch home! The absolute height of stupidity occurred on MDL on thurs, when Bletcher told Mike about poor Brenda having ‘bowel problems’…way too much info Momma!I for one, could care less about Brenda’s bowels,or any other problems she is having. When is this going to end?In today’s TO Sun,we learn poor Brenda didn’t sleep well..so what!As for Ms.Bletcher telling us about the bowel thing, where’s Brenda’s right to privacy now.and all the media(Dan McTeague’s ) outrage about Brenda’s privacy.Just STFU and go away!

  6. Today on my way to work I was informed by the news on the radio that Brenda Martin was enjoying something she missed dearly, peanut butter. My day is now complete knowing this.

  7. NDP Pat Martin is accusing the Tories of ‘hate speech’ for sending out flyers calling Jack Layton Ontario-centric and showing him standing in front of the CN Tower.
Pat Martin said “We don’t circulate pamphlets with (Prime Minister) Stephen Harper next to an oil derrick or the Husky Tower as if that was a reason to hate a person”
Which is really funny because it takes about 2 seconds to find that very picture. Visit the NDP site and you’ll find PMSH dressed as an oil worker standing in front of the oil fields ‘as if that were a reason to hate a person’

  8. Has anyone heard anything about how Sowahardy’s walk across Canada is coming along? I remember about 10 days ago seeing an item on him dipping his foot in the Atlantic and starting off,but nothing since. A google search came up empty, and cair-can has zilch about it also. Was it just another PR stunt?

  9. I don’t believe this qualifies as a ‘tip’, however I am curious to how many others here may be coming to the same realization as myself.I should think the topic would at least be captivating to anyone who wants democracy to survive in the western world.
An experience my 86 y o mother had last evening has been bothering me and is further evidence of my beliefs.
You see, she was invited to a meeting with Minister Ambrose, some local politicians and a few other guests to discuss senior’s issues.I believe her 27 years as a volunteer peer and grief counsellor would make her a valuable commodity to anyone making public policy for seniors.
To make a long story short, the meeting was totally political with Ambrose saying all those nice fuzzy meaningless words we have all gotten used to LPC members gushing in the past.
My mother tried to explain that elder abuse was a serious problem in these times(mostly financial but still devastating) and Ambrose offered platitudes and talks of forming commitees.
She did manage however to introduce the new conservative candidate for our riding and allow her a mini election speech before she dashed off to the airport.
What does all this have to do with anything?
It just reenforces the realization that there is currently very little to choose between the left and right in this country.
Where I give Harper credit for accomplishing some good things as a minority government, thanks mostly to a non-existent opposition, I am quite disturbed at many other things I see.
Absolute control from the PM’s office….STILL.
Endorsing the fraudulent MMGW purely for the political points.
A House of Commons more undignified than ever.
I heard just this AM the feds have closed a resource allowing Canadians easy access to all previously released documents under the FOA.
Remember….those outrageously perverse travesties of justice known as HRC’s currently operate unopposed by our conservative government.Even funded by them.
Then there’s the health care “waiting times guarrantee”?You don’t get any more liberal than that kind of tripe.
Generally, just more of what I was hoping I helped eradicate when we got rid of the LPC.
That is A GOVERNMENT AMBLING ALONG MAKING POLICY AND SPENDING BILLIONS BASED ON POLL NUMBERS AND STAYING IN POWER.
I fear many here, and on countless other political blogs, are so deeply entrenched in their thinking that they have become part of the problem. For surely intelligent people can see that it is ALL POLITICIANS who are the enemy of democracy.Lib, Con, Dipper, Greenie…it doesn’t matter.Enough time in power and they ALL will become patronizing, arrogant and corrupt.
People are so involved in the battles they are missing the flow of the war.
Glenn Beck said it well when he described the divide and conquer policies of the dems and reps.
OUR SOCIETY’S PROBLEMS ARE NOT BEING DEALT WITH BECAUSE ALL THE FOCUS IS ON A NEVERENDING POPULARITY CONTEST.
How can anyone watching the current political soap opera in the US have ANY faith in our politicians or the media flakes who endorse and enable such meaningless dialogue and vacuous policy statements.
Again….How can anyone watch politics in NA and not be afraid for the future of democracy on this planet?
WE need to change the SYSTEM!
As usual Kate, I thank you for the opportunity to express myself on your bandwidth.

  10. Brenda Martin likes peanut butter. maybe if she fills her mouth with it we wont have to listen to little Cindy Boo Who anymore.

  11. Cutting-edge artist Aliza Shvarts explains her latest work:
“For the past year, I performed repeated self-induced miscarriages…From the 9th to the 15th day of my menstrual cycle the fabricators would provide me with sperm samples, which I used to privately self-inseminate…On the 28th day of my cycle, I would ingest an abortifacient, after which I would experience cramps and heavy bleeding.
“Just as it is a myth that women are ‘meant’ to be feminine and men masculine, that penises and vaginas are ‘meant’ for penetrative heterosexual sex (or that mouths, anuses, breast, feet or leather, silicone, vinyl, rubber of metal implements are not ‘meant’ for sex at all), it is a myth that ovaries and a uterus are ‘meant’ to birth a child.
“The reality of miscarriage is very much a linguistic and political reality, an act of reading constructed by an act of naming — an authorial act. It is the intention of this piece to destabilize the locus of that authorial act, and in doing so, reclaim in from the heteronormative structures that seeks to naturalize it.”
Hmm….I think I can feel a Canada Council grant coming on…it’s….nope, it’s just gas.

…media have a responsibility to put their writings through a “human rights filter” before publication, and said the commission is keen to call out those who do not, jurisdiction be damned.

“In the past four months, six Muslim women living in Berlin have been brutally murdered by family members. Their crime? Trying to break free and live Western lifestyles. Within their communities, the killers are revered as heroes for preserving their family dignity. How can such a horrific and shockingly archaic practice be flourishing in the heart of Europe? The deaths have sparked momentary outrage, but will they change the grim reality for Muslim women?”

    By THE CANADIAN PRESS
HALIFAX – Long-stem red roses have been tossed into Halifax harbour to mark 65 years since the turning point of the Battle of the Atlantic.
Veterans and dignitaries, including federal Veterans Affairs Minister Greg Thompson, gathered at a waterfront museum today to remember the thousands of Canadians killed in the battle, many of whom set sail from Halifax.
The battle, which began in 1939 and ended in 1945, saw Canadians shield Allied ships from German attacks during the Second World War.
May 1943 is considered the turning point of the battle in favour of the Allies.”

  16. the long slow slide of record levels of insensitivity to genuine belief one has just been the first witness of a suicide.
orwell predicted this with the scene in ‘1984’ where a woman holding a child is strafed by the ‘good guys’ in a jet fighter.
it continues with ’embedded’ coverage in iraq courtesy the ‘liberal media’ fox news.
    looooong slow slide.

  17. Canadian Observer, here are three recent items put into law as Harper promised.
As of May 1st, three new laws from the Conservative Government’s Tackling Violent Crime Act went into effect.
“The age of sexual consent has been officially increased from 14 to 16.
Individuals charged with gun crimes will find it much more difficult to get bail.
And criminals who are convicted of gun offences will face stiff mandatory minimum sentences that will keep them behind bars and off the streets.”
Each one was fought against by the Liberals and will be weakened if they return to power. Harper is continuing with his agenda but as we expound upon so many times here at SDA little is reported in the leftist media. We as Conservatives expect a lot and Harper has delivered and will continue to deliver needed legislation. I have asked in letters to him to go on TV or use the internet to speak to the country and deliver your message and vision, mail outs don’t do it.
Just in a discussion last week with a good friend who stated he liked Harper but didn’t trust him with a majority. As a former Liberal it is still hard for him to shake the oft-repeated message about trusting Harper especially after the financial fund reversal. So you see it is still an uphill struggle for Conservatives to win over the populace. It is easy for the Liberals when over 30% like our trolls here just blindly support them.
    Keep the faith.

  18. mr g, the age of consent news was in the Nat Post and on several blogs, announcing it would come law, the day before it happened. Sorry you missed it,
It is posted at crux-of-the-matter, under achievments of this government.

  19. This is a real tip. Time to tighten up your finances and get ready for tough times ahead.
Two phones? Get rid of your landline. Cut the extras that are costing you money here and there every month. Revert to the *Basic* TV package.

  20. Since the “jagged variability” of global warming could experience a chill wind that blows no bad, I wonder…
Should I pop into Vostok next Thursday (May 9, 2008), how much better off will I be when a forecast of -101 degrees F equals -79 degrees Realfeel (by Accuweather)?
Also, how the Realfeel (TM) index might include the approaching Unclear Winter of jagged variability.
Maybe it’s time we had an UnRealfeel index for Global Warming.

    Hmm… free speech advocates anybody?
Universities the places for the free exchange of ideas.
Climate Change: Colorado State University says it’ll no longer promote the work of Dr. William Gray. Is it really a cost-cutting move or are CSU and eco-fascists trying to silence the godfather of hurricane forecasting?
    Read More: Global Warming
The university says its decision is based solely on the burdens of keeping up with media requests and inquiries about Gray’s work that overwhelm a lone media staffer.
It says the decision has nothing to do with the fact that Gray, professor emeritus of CSU’s atmospheric department, has been an effective voice offering inconvenient truths debunking Al Gore’s climate disaster theories.
If these requests are too burdensome, we’d suggest CSU divert some funds from Frisbee 101, or whatever passes for higher learning these days, and hire another media staffer. We don’t buy the excuse that inquiries relating to Gray detract from the promotion of others’ work. The man is America’s most reliable hurricane forecaster. If anyone’s work should be promoted, it should be his.
In a memo to colleagues after CSU officials informed him that media relations would no longer promote his forecasts after 2008, Gray wrote: “This is a flimsy excuse and seems to me to be a cover for the department’s capitulation to the desires of some who want to rein in my global-warming criticisms.”
And critical he has been. At last year’s National Hurricane Conference in New Orleans, Gray called Gore a “gross alarmist.” “He’s one of those guys that preaches end-of-the-world type of things,” Gray told AP. “I think he’s doing a great disservice, and he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”
Gray says fluctuations in hurricane intensity and frequency, exhibit A in Gore’s inquisition, have nothing to do with carbon dioxide levels or human activity, but with natural variations in ocean currents. He points out that 101 hurricanes occurred from 1900 to 1949, in a period of cooler global temperatures, compared with 83 from 1957 to 2006, when the earth warmed.
Regarding moves to establish a climate change curriculum in public schools, Gray said: “We’re brainwashing our children. They’re going to the Gore movie and being fed all this. It’s ridiculous.”
More recently at the University of North Carolina, Gray told meteorology students, “The human impact on the atmosphere is simply too small to have a major impact on global temperatures.”
“It bothers me that my fellow scientists are not speaking out against something they know is wrong,” Gray once said. “But they also know that they’d never get any grants if they spoke out.”
An increasing number are speaking out, inspired by Gray’s courage. Gore and his ilk complain about government censorship of their views. But their opponents are the ones being silenced.

  22. WE need to change the SYSTEM!
    Canadian Observer,
The single most effective change would be to abolish self-regulating authorities that have or are failing society.
    a) Bar Associations replaced with Elected/Appointed Citizens (Not lawyers)
The US has the same problem and the US Supreme Court has moved on some issues that have been roadblocks.
    1) International Law is DOA Vs. the US constitution. This places the UN in the same position as the “league of Nations”. Time for the UN to “go fish”
    2) The Death penalty use of drug cocktails is Constitutional. Back logs cleared & hundreds of lawyers will need new clients
    3) The laws requiring a photo Id to vote are constitutional. This has serious consequences for Illegal Aliens because if they vote they are representing themselves as US citizens.
The Democrat busses will be empty, in Nov, in those states that respect the rule of law
    4) Gun law due in June
    5) 13 cases in the 9th circuit heading for the SC
BTW: Obama is not a bad thing happening in the US. The Black corrupt leaders have lost their flock of victims, win or lose he is now the voice of black America.

  23. Christianity without Christ
This Alice did take the wrong pill. Besides the cotton clouds & frolicking bunnies of her diatribe. There is a great pit you can sense in a life abandoned of all meaning. She has lost any sense of reality by fleeing to this haven it seems for her, not because of religious reasons.
I suspect the congregation is NDP or so small it now just a meeting hall for old friends. Most of these progressive churches are. I think this line in the article says it all:
Ms. Vosper did not change her views over time but said she felt the same way when she took her divinity degree at Queen’s University in 1990. She said when the creed was mentioned, which contains those declarations of faith that acknowledge basic Christian tenants, it was uncomfortable. “I fled when I had to read the creed,” she said.
    http://www.nationalpost.com/news/canada/story.html?id=490325&p=2
One wonders why she stays at all. Probably to incompetent for another job except social work, & as Kate posted that may be too eye openly real. She would start running again.

  24. WE need to change the SYSTEM!
Posted by: Canadian Observer at May 3, 2008 2:56 PM
WE had the chance to but the MSM decided that the Reform Party of Canada was racist.
It may be crying over spilled milk, but sometimes it’s good to reflect on where we as a country could have gone had the electorate not been so easily stampeded.
    1. The made in Canada recession would have evaporated in 2 to 3 years, instead of 8 to 9; due to lower taxes and balanced budgets.
    2. A paid off national debt.
    3. An elected Senate with Veto power.
    4. Justices chosen by a Senate Committee.
    5. No money wasted on Gun Control.
    6. Effective Health Care.
    7. Fixed election dates in the Constitution.
    8. A Canada too prosperous for Quebec to ever entertain leaving.
    9. Etc; etc.; etc.;

  25. Good one, Gunney99. Unfortunately, what your post empahsizes is that we have an irrational electorate, fueled by an unthinking and inattentive media. Reform ideas were not given the time of day. Today the Conservatives continue to fight the same battles particularly with MSM — although some of the issues you name have, sadly, been dropped from the public agenda. My believe is that Reform tried very hard to change Canada for the better — and they were never given a fair hearing.

  26. The risk to democracy in Canada comes from the voters who prefer not to look at our politics. They, if they vote at all, just vote to get it over with and out of the way.
Trouble is these Canadians seem to vote Liberal or NDP for some reason.
I try to shed a little light on some Liberal blogs with the mention of *Scamslist*[Google it], or one of the lists of 200 Liberal scams.
So far, all these shallow thinking voters have heard rumours of Mulrony kickbacks.
They fail to realize the money is an industrial promo fee for a military vehicle plant in Quebec. Not tax money at all.
They have heard other rumours that seem to go nowhere about the Conservatives.
How many casual voters know the stories are without much merit?
Liberals seem to think all it takes are rumours of rumours to win elections.
I fear there is some method to their madness. = TG

  27. “is that the number below your mug shot?”
I bet they don’t like him either.
“Reform tried very hard to change Canada for the better”
