Tony Blair’s Britain

Where the foxes caper unmolested, the government packs your school lunch and no more “Pirates Only” water fountains;

The British government on the other hand, to the incredulity of many in the maritime industry, has taken a curiously pathetic approach to piracy. While the French were flying six of the captured pirates to Paris to face trial, the British Foreign Office issued a directive to the once vaunted Royal Navy not to detain any pirates, because doing so could violate their human rights.

  1. The problem is if we were to fly these people to a court in London they would claim asylum and we would be lumbered with them. If you recall a few years back a group of scumbags from Afghanistan “hijacked” a jet and claimed asylum on landing at Stansted. All of them are still here.
Hanging from the nearest yard arm is what they should do, but like all good Eurodhimmies we can no longer do this thanks to Tony Blair, his moonbat wife and our subservience to the European Human rights laws.

  2. Thank gawd Captain Jack Aubrey was a fictional character, or he’d be turning somersaults in his grave.

  3. Here I thought that it was Trudeau, Chretien, Martin et al that brought that kind of idiocy to the Canadian justice (oxymoron) system when all along we got it from the Brits. Go figure.

  4. Would that be the same British navy whose behavior last year provoked this response:
Here are some questions the board should address. Why was HMS Cornwall not able to protect its sailors and marines? Why did the Lynx helicopter leave station before the boarding was complete? Why did the Rules of Engagement not permit the 15 to open fire until it was too late?
Why were the 15 apparently unprepared for what was mild mistreatment and some fairly basic mind games? Lieutenant Felix Carman RN, the senior officer among them, stated: “The questions were aggressive and handling rough but it was no worse than that.” Watch him chatting to Iranian TV here, offering to “promote” the country and hoping he will return.
Why is Britain training officers who seem to think that their number one priority is to do nothing that could risk the lives of personnel? Why did they not have the most basic appreciation of how their briefings and apologies in front of nautical charts would be used for propaganda purposes?
Why did many of the 15 – with Lt Carman front and centre – believe it was appropriate to greet the news of their release with giddy excitement, grins, waves, back-slapping and grovelling gratitude to President Ahmadinejad?
The British navy in the shape it’s in now would surrender to a 5 year old trick-or-treater in a pirates costume, for God’s sake.

  5. The British Navy is now wimpier than both the French and the New York Times. That really takes some work.
Those who commented that blowing the pirates away is the right solution are absolutely right. Corpses have a very difficult time asserting that their human rights have been violated. They also don’t testify very well.

  6. Is there no end to the madness? Sometimes I think an Islamic takeover would actually improve Western Civilization, our softness and rot being as pervasive as they seem to be.
We could use a Pompey, now. Charged by the Roman senate with purging the Mediterranean of pirates in three years, he did the job in three months. He is not on record as having voiced any concern for the human rights of his prey.

Are you two really as stupid as you sound. It wasn’t the RN who did this they just followed orders, you know like the Canadian military.
Its not the fault of either military that they have idiots civilians giving orders, you know like disbanding a para regiment for getting friendly with the locals and banning alchol in a war zone.
Oh and by the way Kate the UK is now run by a Scots twit not Blair. He escaped through the backdoor.
By the way Penny when do you think Canada will ever get another navy, or will we keep buying rusting submarines.
    From the British!

  8. By the way Canada would do the same as the French and when they got here and claimed refugee status would be here for years, while Penny, Silicon Valley Jim and the rest of us payed for their keep for the rest of their lives.
But at least it would mean they woulds no longer be pirates.

  9. Sink the pirates, then forget to file a report. No human rights violated, as nothing happened.
btw, most of today’s pirates, anywhere in the world, are either tied to black market dealers, or muslim. Or both.

  10. many years ago i was aboard a vessel that was held under the gunsights(looked like a 50 cal) of an albanian PT boat…it was for an alleged violation of the offshore limits which was a bone of contention in the day…it was 3 miles here…12 miles there and 200 miles somewhere else…all very confusing.
the american on board was all for calling in the USAF from Brindisi…one or two A4 skyhawks would have been appropriate….my feeling was we let them take us in so i could see the town…i had a penchant in those days for seeing the squalor behind the iron curtain…
at any rate the skipper just kept ooching closer and closer to Corfu and doing the old no speakee no understand thing till the bad guys got bored and split..our armament consisted of three handguns(44 cal) we always bought in the american virgins for ‘trade purposes’ with a certain freebooting element in Marseille.
the point being if the old man had told us to repel boarders we would have done so without question.legally putting the boot in to some commie asshole would have been like christmas in july.
ahhh..stories….i got a million of ’em.

  11. Guess we know what Britain fears if it holds these fellows in the slammer. There would be no end to the seething. And all recorded on video, to boot.

  12. I think it’s time for the International War on Pirates to go mainstream (until now it’s been limited to myself and a few close friends; heretofore, we’ve been entirely unsuccessful).
So we know the Charter doesn’t apply to the Taliban. But how about pirates? If we get Harper on board I bet we could get some sweet anti-pirate legislation passed. Even if the Charter does apply to pirates, I think we’d have a strong s. 1 case.

  13. Hey and I thought the Hell’s Angels Toronto chapter accused PM Paul Martin of being a hypocrite and the “Pirate of Canada”!
    Arghh matey’s!!

  14. British warships patrolling the pirate-infested waters off Somalia were advised that captured pirates could claim asylum in Britain and that those who were returned to Somalia faced beheading for murder or a hand chopped off for theft under Islamic law.
Message really sent to RN Captains:
“Kill pirates and throw their bodies in the ocean. And definetely NO press conferences”.

  15. At the risk of feeding today’s troll:
It wasn’t the RN who did this they just followed orders, you know like the Canadian military.
Oh, well, that’s all right, then.

  16. From the article: “…the British Foreign Office issued a directive to the once vaunted Royal Navy not to detain any pirates, because doing so could violate their human rights.”
What’s the problem here? “Take no prisoners” has a long and proud history in the British Navy.

  17. No reason to diss the Royal Navy. I am sure most of the navy people would love nothing more than to blow these murderous pirates out of the water and leave those who survive to the sharks.
I think that the guts of the common English people remain intact, but that the guts of the goverment have been totally eviscerated by 2 generations of leftist pap and political correctness.
Basically, they’ve come to the point that the justice system in England is so messed up that they are better off not bringing people to justice. An abject lesson to the Western world.
How far is Canada from the same situation?

  18. Can’t happen in Canada lori, we don’t have a navy. What we have is eight frigates, three of which actually work on any given day.
BTW, anybody know if they ever got that upside-down Sea Thing off the deck of the HMCS Halifax? Or is it still there?

  19. “How far is Canada from the same situation?

How about tied, lori. And why force the poor sharks, even though they are good garbage eaters,to have to eat the slime left alive? My gawd. Just think. PETA would have it s%&t fit!!

  20. This could just as easily been named “not waiting for the asteroid” also. Along with most posts concerning Britain.

  21. Excuse my language, but what happend to the
British that turned em into such pussies?

  22. OT but what the heck happened to Captain’s Quarters? My link just sends me to Hot Air.

  23. My rhetorical question with regard to how far Canada is from the same situation referred to the notion that the increasing power of “human rights” courts so trump common sense and natural laws of justice that police are better off not policing certain group. I wasn’t specifically referring to the navy, although I could see a situation where some of our boats in the gulf pick up some refugees from Iran or Iraq, and they suddenly become a Canadian problem.
In a way, we are there… that’s what all the fuss about afghan Taliban prisoners is about. Amnesty International wants us to give them the rights of Canadian citizens.
    It’s just so stupid…

  24. i knew lots of andrews…lots and lots…i was a milkman in Gibraltar once(beggars belief i know)…army navy and air force messes were my route…and i always timed my delivery to the frigates and submarines at tot time…and bigod if they aren’t the scariest but nicest men in or out of drink then i just don’t know…all they want…all BRITAIN wants is to have the leash slipped…to take the bit in their teeth and run.
but alas…man(government) only reacts to crisis…

  25. May~ Ed Morrisey of Captain’s Quarters is now part of Hot Air. He’s getting even more people there than he had CQ- and far less trolls.

  26. Sad to think that, just under 200 years ago, the Royal Navy was putting paid to slaving ships and the abominable trade in human cargo with a zeal and gritty determination that still brings honour to the name of the Senior Service.

  27. Well, if there is an issue with human right’s violations in killing pirates, that being the dark skin behavioral exemptions imposed by the guilty white boy left, I’m guessing killing terrorists will be a human right’s violation in time too. That is where they are going with this.
The more the left exposes its spineless and craven self, the more I don’t care if they survive what’s coming from the thugs they protect.
Oh, and, pissedoff, that little Scots twit running Britain is nothing more than Blair’s poodle. He wasn’t elected into office. Kate’s references to “Blair’s Britain” is apt, just like “Putin’s Russia”. The names change, but, the pathology isn’t rooted in the disciples that follow.
Silicon Valley Jim gets the prize today for best comment.

  28. ahem…i think silicon jim was very creditable indeed….a fine post but i think my ponderous Dalian ponderings are worth twice his effort.
so ah…if there’s a prize or money involved i say vote for me….i’m consistent see…which is gold nowtimes.

  29. Thats the way I read it ,Phantom’s got it,…no prisoners ,no questions,no problems…clear the guns

  30. well now!!! me thinks the dutch navy has the brits beat to hell, they would probably have UNION negotiations on the matter, yup, those fools (dutch sailors) are unionized, go figure!!!!

  31. What happens at sea, stays at sea.looks like open season, pity the poor bastards…NOT…the Brits will not be outdone by the French, tis a game now.I see …could be a bet gone astray
Drake was in her majesty’s service,he helped define the pirate,I can’t think the Royal Navy will not come up to the line

  32. Privateers! Awesome idea.
How about some nice, fat Q ships too? That’d be your armed merchantman, maybe a juicy cruise ship mounting Bofors guns all over the place. Just the thing for seeing off a pirate speed boat.
As Marie Antoinette would have said had she thought about it, let them eat lead.

  33. Aye ,there,,brings back memories now …Q ships…once the scourge o’the seas…nobody knew what to expect in those days….would make a cruise more fun,if ye give ’em arms.Nothin like a 50 cal in front of ya.even just the practice ,thenya no….probly put a damper on them pirate types,I’m sure
    Rock en Roll

  34. Penny –
Thanks for the praise. I’m blushing.
    john begley –
If you want to come to Mountain View, I’ll buy you all the bear you want. Maybe not as good as gold, but still pretty good.

  35. “all the BEER you want”, not “all the bear you want”
Not that I’ve ever been known to drink a bear, uh, beer, before posting, you understand.

  36. The only thing these pirates deserve is for france to dust off the guillotine and behead all six of them and use that as a warning against piracy like they used to do until they became part of the euroweenie union

  37. On the open seas, pirate ships should simply be engaged and sunk with all hands.
Once enough of them “disappear,” piracy will quickly lose its appeal.
    Q ships indeed!

So you two really are as stupid as you sound. By your logic when Harper pulls the troop out of Afstan next year they will be cowards and running from the fight, instead of actually following the orders of a bunch of pantywaist pols in Ottawa trying to save their butts for the election coming next year.
Front line troops really love armchair crtics like you.
Penny I know all about that Scots twit Brown and he has been in charge long enought to be responsible. After all as you say he was Blairs right hand man. Also a good reason why the English are all for Scottish separation.

  39. By the way Penny what was your crack about Putin’s Russia, the last time I looked he was still president, at least until May and no matter what you say at least the next guy was elected.
