“Identity Politics”

… can actually exacerbate suspicion and resentment. If some notional “communities” are being treated differently and being encouraged to cultivate difference for social or political leverage, then getting past a person’s skin colour or place or origin seems more difficult, not less. One is continually being reminded of how different a person is, or thinks he ought to be. A cynic might point out that the racial grievance industry – and the various commentators and lobbyists who benefit from it – depends on people being preoccupied by the colour of a person’s skin. And therefore, one might suppose, there’s an incentive to make sure lots of people are.

  5. Perhaps grouping people in this way makes it easier, for those so inclined, to allocate the resources necessary to achieve equal outcomes for all. It would be very difficult task if one had to consider each individual’s aspirations. Probably not something that a government could do, and then where would we be?

Identity politics is a modern repackaging of Marxist class politics in a form acceptable to north american liberals. Its sole purpose is to replace the traditional concepts of the empowered individual and his rights, freedoms and equality under the law, with collectivist social constructs of group entitlements meted out by committees on a basis of need…in this case the need for extra entitlement is determined by ones disadvatage due to identity group victimhood degree.

  8. Crack Obama,
Canada has risen above that. There are so few comments here simply because we are interested in the person and not the colour.= TG

  9. The US election is not about race. The democrats are going to lose because of Anti-American policy. Obama’s problem is he is a far left ideologue with a hate America message. Bill Clinton was right when he said Hillary & McCain are the American candidates, but that is not a racial slur. If the social experts keep injecting race, they may just conjure up some ugly consequences.
The Global warming BS has already resulted in increased price. The $4.00 a gallon for diesel has the trucking industry reeling, demonstrations and full bore Strike threats. The Barbara Boxer (CAL) Senate bill (due in June) will destroy the democrat party.
