Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Hey Iberia! Get a grip on reality. Unlike left wing socialist skin wasters, Ezra has undoubtedly repaid that amount to the gov’t in spades in jobs and income created resulting in increased taxes to the gov’t. Try saying the same for your artist friends that hang rabbits from trees or whatever the hell it is that you leftard freaks do to justify sucking money out of my hard filled wallet.
PS: I find what you have said highly offensive. Now, as a right winger, my family and I are afraid to go out on the streets. Whatever shall I do?
Why do lefties insist on demonstrating their lack of economic intelligence (and intelligence in general) on such a regular basis.
Anyway, have a good day Iberia, and Happy New Year by the way. Hope you’re enjoying living off the hard work of conservatives. (You’re welcome)

The plot behind the cartoons is clearly explained by a well educated journalist / producer with connections. Ms Fatah.
Seems to be above any CBC spin effect and very informative, yet I wonder if it had any exposure. Only two comments.
Took some digging to find this.

Knowing this, you can see why Ezra was correct in letting Canadians see the cartoons. = TG

What the he11, Beria, does the rise and fall of the enterprise known as the Western Standard have to do with Mr. Levant’s heroic position before the state censors? You wish you could be so noble, honey.
something cool from deepest space
http://www.space.com/bestimg/?guid=4499b31bec4c9&cat=strangest
My dear Vitruvius:
Levant is a hypocrite, and not only when it comes to business. In an earlier incarnation, Ezra Levant worked to punish a newspaper for publishing a cartoon. The cartoon was published in the Gateway in the University of Alberta during the early 90’s. It depicted Jesus being born now, with an Israeli soldier declaring the need to smash down the manger in which he was born “because the manger was an improperly registered dwelling.” Levant jumped into this controversy using it as his platform to eliminate evil “left-wing anti-Israel” bias in university publications.
Yup, he’s all about freedom of speach.
Iberia makes a big thing out of a magazine publication assist fund grant.
Because of the publications giant to the south, Ottaw provides publishing assist grants so we can see some Canadian content at the local drug store.
Iberia forgot to mention that about 1280 other publications and periodicals got grants as well. Tsk tsk. = TG
You are entitled to your opinion, my dear Beria. Or at least until someone
complains to the inquisition. I wish you good luck. If you win, you’ll need it.

Scratch a conservative, find a hypocrite.
manny, get over yourself.
I have a real simple solution to the “Ezra getting a grant” situation. END ALL GRANTS TO ALL MEDIA!!!!
Which, of course, would include no more money for the CBC, TVO, etc, etc!
And while we are at it, mandatory drug testing for all welfare recipients, no more money for Bombardier and the rest of the corporate bums, no subsidized day care, no free lawyers for refugee welfare bums, eliminate all grants to artists, etc, etc, etc!
Thanks for bringing it up moonbat! Hopefully we can start a movement to end ALL welfare in this country.

Financial advisers’ No. 1 worry: A Democrat in the White House
By Aaron Siegel
January 14, 2008
Nothing worries financial advisers more than the prospect of a Democrat’s being elected president in November, according to a quarterly poll by Brinker Capital Inc.
The fourth-quarter edition of the Brinker Barometer, which polled 236 advisers in December, found that 22% indicated that a “Democrat in the White House” worried them more than all other economic or geopolitical concerns.
Rounding out the list of concerns was “global unrest” (15%), “U.S. economic growth” (15%), “a terrorist attack” (13%) and “a recession” (13%).
When asked what their greatest tax concern would be under a Democratic administration, 81% of advisers cited a potential increase in the capital gains tax, an income tax increase and heavier taxes on dividends.
[…] The results jibe with a poll that Brinker conducted last summer in which 60% of advisers said that Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., would be the worst choice in terms of the economy and investing.…
“The German scholar Matthias Küntzel tells us this is a mistake. He takes anti-Semitism, and in particular its most potent current strain, Muslim anti-Semitism, very seriously indeed. His bracing, even startling, book, “Jihad and Jew-Hatred” (translated by Colin Meade), reminds us that it is perilous to ignore idiotic ideas if these idiotic ideas are broadly, and fervently, believed. And across the Muslim world, the very worst ideas about Jews — intricate, outlandish conspiracy theories about their malevolent and absolute power over world affairs — have become scandalously ubiquitous. Hezbollah and Hamas, to name two prominent examples, understand the world largely through the prism of Jewish power. Hezbollah officials employ language that shamelessly echoes Nazi propaganda, describing Jews as parasites and tumors and prescribing the murder of Jews as a kind of chemotherapy.”

Seeds of Hate
One day in Damascus not long ago, I visited the understocked gift shop of the Sheraton Hotel, looking for something to read. There wasn’t much: pre-owned Grishams, a hagiography of Hafez al-Assad, an early Bill O’Reilly (go figure) and a paperback copy of “The International Jew,” published in 2000 in Beirut. “The International Jew” is a collection of columns exposing the putative role of Jews in such fields as international finance, world governance and bootlegging. “Wherever the seat of power may be, thither they swarm obsequiously,” the book states. These columns, which are based on the “Protocols of the Elders of Zion” — they are a plagiary of a forgery, in other words — were first published in Henry Ford’s Dearborn Independent more than 80 years ago.
Next to “The International Jew” was a copy of “The Bible Came From Arabia,” a piece of twaddle that suggests the Jews are not Jews and Israel isn’t Israel. And then there was a pamphlet called “Secrets of the Talmud.” Not knowing these secrets (I was raised Reform), I started reading. The Talmud apparently teaches Jews how best to demolish the world economy and gives Jews the right to take non-Jewish women as slaves and rape them.
The anti-Semitic worldview, generally speaking, is fantastically stupid. If its propagandists actually understood the chosen people, they would know, for instance, that no one, not the chief of Mossad, not even the president of Hadassah, could persuade 4,000 Jews to stay home from the World Trade Center on Sept. 11. (“And why should I listen to you?” would have been the near-universal rebuttal to the call.) Anti-Semitic conspiracy literature not only posits crude and senseless ideas, but also tends to be riddled with typos, repetitions and gross errors of grammar, and for this and other reasons I occasionally have trouble taking it seriously. …-

All Kidding Aside, Obama For President?!?!
By Burt Prelutsky
[…] Why is it, I wonder, that nobody is asking Barack Obama about his religious convictions? From what I’ve gathered, they’re far more fascinating than Mitt Romney’s.
For over 20 years, Sen, Obama has been a faithful member of Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ.
The other day, I paid a visit to Trinity’s website. There I read that the vision statement of the TUCC is based upon something called the systematized liberation theology that began in 1969 with the publication of Dr. James Cone’s book, “Black Power and Black Theology.”
Dr. Cone believes that black Christians should not follow the “White Church,” as it had failed to support them in their struggle for equal rights in America. I suspect that most white Christians would disagree.
Trinity United boasts that it is a congregation “Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian.” What’s more, “it is a congregation with a non-negotiable commitment to Africa. We are an African people, and remain true to our native land, the mother continent, the cradle of civilization.”
Its pastor, Reverend Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr., has referred to “white arrogance” and “the United States of Whiter America.”
To my ears, that sounds unashamedly black, but I’m not so sure about the unapologetically Christian.
Furthermore, Rev. Wright’s church publishes a magazine, The Trumpet. Not too surprisingly, all things considered, the recipient of the 2007 Lifetime Achievement Trumpeter Award for Social Justice was none other than Louis Farrakhan, the fellow who plays the race card even better than he plays his violin.
Now, my own reasons for hoping that Sen. Obama is not elected president next November are pretty much the same reasons I object to Hillary Clinton and John Edwards. I consider all three of them to be anti-military, tax raising, left-wing flyweights who would bury this country in entitlements while essentially ignoring Islamic fascism. I regard them as three run-of-the-mill hacks who would bring tears to the eyes of John Kennedy if he were around to see what’s happened to his party’s leadership over the past 45 years.
That being said, I have no idea how a member of a black church that apparently feels it owes greater allegiance to Africa than to America and that pays homage to a bigot like Farrakhan, has the gall to present himself as the one candidate who can bring us all together.
To be fair, I acknowledge that he has a pleasant smile and speaks better than most politicians. The truth is, he sort of reminds me of David Duke.
Indiana Jones meets the Da Vinci Code
By Spengler
Islam watchers blogged all weekend about news that a secret archive of ancient Islamic texts had surfaced after 60 years of suppression. Andrew Higgins’ Wall Street Journal report that the photographic record of Koranic manuscripts, supposedly destroyed during World War II but occulted by a scholar of alleged Nazi sympathies, reads like a conflation of the Da Vinci Code with Indiana Jones and the Holy Grail.
The Da Vinci Code offered a silly fantasy in which Opus Dei, homicidal monks and twisted billionaires chased after proof that Christianity is a hoax. But the story of the photographic archive of
the Bavarian Academy of Sciences, now ensconced in a Berlin vault, is a case of life imitating truly dreadful art. It even has Nazis. “I hate those guys!” as Indiana Jones said. […]
Higgins’ account begins,
On the night of April 24, 1944, British air force bombers hammered a former Jesuit college here housing the Bavarian Academy of Science. The 16th-century building crumpled in the inferno. Among the treasures lost, later lamented Anton Spitaler, an Arabic scholar at the academy, was a unique photo archive of ancient manuscripts of the Koran.
The 450 rolls of film had been assembled before the war for a bold venture: a study of the evolution of the Koran, the text Muslims view as the verbatim transcript of God’s word. The wartime destruction made the project “outright impossible”, Mr Spitaler wrote in the 1970s.
Mr Spitaler was lying. The cache of photos survived, and he was sitting on it all along. The truth is only now dribbling out to scholars – and a Koran research project buried for more than 60 years has risen from the grave. Why Spitaler concealed the archive is unknown, but Koranic critics who challenge the received Muslim account suspect his motives. Higgins reports, …-

To the Wanna-be Communist murderer (lberia):
You are still showing yourself to be a moron. You have no grasp whatsoever as to what this is all about.
Levant is not railing against the Muslims for being upset about his publishing the cartoons, he is railing against the state for their attempt to shut down free speech.
Levant acknowledges that people are permitted to be upset and to take action against that which they oppose. The Muslims were free to protest and write letters of condemnation and go after the advertizers with demands that they boycott the Western Standard. Which, I suspect, is exactly what HE did in regards to the Gateway paper cartoon issue.
Levant violently opposes the STATE from saying “you aren’t allowed to say that” for statements that are not illegal (eg. libel, slander) but are simply distasteful.
Levant did NOT call down the government or any government agency onto the Gateway paper to forbid them from publishing certain offensive things, did he?
Ergo, he is not a hypocrite…you are just a moron.

Suddenly, Cameron’s fellow journalists were falling all over each other to distance themselves from her.
Ottawa Sun columnist Michael Harris, after disclosing the juicy tidbit he was familiar with Cameron’s bedroom, described her as a gossipmonger who flitted from source to source and betrayed the public trust.
Globe columnist Margaret Wente–who also declared herself a Cameron admirer but didn’t mention bedrooms–accused her of being “complicit in one of the most contemptible, absurd, politicized prosecutions of all time.”
Even Zerbisias leaped into the fray, describing Cameron as “buried in a dirt pile of her own making.”
And then there was Montreal Gazette writer L. Ian MacDonald, author of a fawning 1984 biography of Mulroney. He dismissed Cameron as a “recipe writer” (early in her career, Cameron was assigned to a newspaper food section) and likened her to Martha Stewart (who, unlike Cameron, was actually convicted of a crime).
But the clumsiest move by far was made by the executive of the Canadian Association of Journalists, which issued a formal press release stating that the 1,300-member organization “denounces” Cameron’s actions but also stating that “much more information has to come out before any final conclusions can be drawn.” ..-

Bret Stephens, Ron Paul and Foreign Policy
Dr. Paul is a libertarian, and a libertarian’s core belief is that a person’s pursuit of happiness is, or ought to be, his own affair. Up to a point, most of us are probably sympathetic to that argument. But is it true of all people? And is what’s true of some or all people also true of countries? The libertarian conceit — which now extends well beyond Dr. Paul’s cult-like following — is that it is…
These details of history pose a problem not just to Dr. Paul’s views of the Middle East, but to the intellectual architecture of libertarianism itself. Liberal societies are built on the belief in (and defense of) individual rights, but also on the overawing power of government to transform natural rights into civil ones. In the same way, trade between nations is only possible in the absence of robbers, pirates and other rogues. Whose job is it to get rid of them?

A man owned a small farm in Kelowna
The BC Human Rights Commission claimed he was not paying proper wages to his help and sent an agent out to interview him. “I need a list of your employees and how much you pay them,” demanded the agent.

The cook has been here for 18 months, and I pay her $150 per week plus free room and board. Then there’s the half-wit who works about 18 hours every day and does about 90% of all the work around here. Well, in the case of Soharwardy, it appears that he himself is the subject of a human rights complaint — for discrimination against women. There’s a shocker. It was filed with the Edmonton and Ottawa offices of the Canadian Human Rights Commission. Some women in his mosque allege that:
[…]
I’ve asked a dissident member of Soharwardy’s mosque for a copy of the DVD of that meeting, referred to in the complaint. I’ll post some excerpts from it when I get it.
Being a sharia sexist is not the only complaint against Soharwardy; some of his same dissidents have complained to the police about his financial probity. Here’s a copy of that letter of complaint. And it gets uglier and weirder.
These are only allegations; I haven’t heard Soharwardy’s side of the story. I’ll be happy to publish it when I do, even if it’s just a tearful statement of how offended he is.
Let me be clear: I don’t wish the women of Soharwardy’s mosque success in their human rights complaint against him. All of my arguments against the commission apply to their complaint as much as it applies to Soharwardy’s complaint against our magazine. But there’s something poetic about Soharwardy being hoist on his own human rights petard. …-

“Austrian politician faces two years in jail for insulting Islam”
Austrian politician faces 2 years in prison for insulting Islam
Sharia Alert from…Central Europe. It has come to this: Susanne Winter faces an investigation and possibly two years in prison for speaking negatively about Muhammad and Islam. I wonder if, regarding Muhammad’s marriage to a nine-year-old and its value as an example for Muslim men and Islamic jurists, truth and accuracy could be a defense. And I also wonder if she would be facing similar prosecution for insulting Jesus and Christianity. What do you think?
“Austrian authorities investigate Islam-bashing by rightist lawmaker,” from Deutsche Presse Agentur (thanks to Marked Manner):
Vienna – Remarks by a right-wing politician denouncing Islam and accusing the Prophet Mohammed of having been a paedophile provoked widespread outrage in Austria on Monday, with authorities investigating whether they constituted hate speech.
Susanne Winter, a candidate for the Freedom Party in local elections in Graz in south-eastern Austria, said on Sunday that Mohammed’s marriage to a 6-year-old girl would make the prophet a ‘paedophile in today’s system.’
Speaking at a rally, Winter demanded that Islam should be ‘thrown back where it came from, beyond the Mediterranean Sea.’
Winter later justified her attacks. ‘There is widespread child abuse by Muslim men,’ she was quoted as saying by the newspaper Oesterreich.
‘Why can’t I say this? That has nothing to do with hate speech. We want neither Austrian nor foreign paedophiles. I did not want to incite hatred, or offend a religious community,’ she said.
Austria’s authorities were investigating whether Winter’s remarks constituted incitement to hatred, a spokesman from the prosecutor’s office said. If found guilty, Winter could face up to two years in prison.
Austrian Politician Calls Prophet Muhammad a ‘Child Molester’
A candidate campaigning for the Graz city council in Austria says it is time that Islam was “thrown back … behind the Mediterranean,” and alleges Muhammad wrote the Koran in “epileptic fits.”
Election campaigns, it would seem, are uncomfortable times for immigrants to be in Europe. First, it was Ronald Koch, the conservative politician in the German state of Hesse who turned up the rhetoric and began railing against “criminal young foreigners” in his country. Now, an Austrian politician has followed suit.

She also said that it is time for Islam to be “thrown back where it came from, behind the Mediterranean.” Not yet finished, she also claimed that Muhammad wrote the Koran in “epileptic fits.”

Speaking of Koran:
El Baboso said…
I think if you want to go after Islam, you don’t attack the Koranic fortress but rather assault the outposts of the Hadith, Sharia and the Sirah first. Lidell Hart’s indirect approach is the path to take. Show how Sharia is merely a repackaging of extant Arab tribal law. Prove that the Sirah is an ahistorical pious fraud on the order of say the infancy Gospels. Point out the contradictions in the Hadith. Once you have destroyed these, then you are perfectly positioned to attack the center of gravity of Muslim faith, the Koran.

Every time Israeli student Iris Yoffe takes the bus to Jerusalem, she has to be ready for abuse from ultra-Orthodox Jews who say she should be kept off because she’s wearing trousers.
Assuming she makes it onto the bus at all —
