  1. What amazes me, on The CBC’s own blog, is how ordinary Canadian commenters do a better job of taking down Peter Mansbridge than Peter did of John Doyle (G&M). His intended target.
All, over who likes or dislikes our Canadian Military.
Ya see, it is just that The CBC is always and always reporting on the good things — like Afghan girls now attending school.

  2. That theory about Pakistan pretty much sums up what I was thinking. Yesterday we have news of Musharraf releasing a bunch of goons from prison, and it occurred to me then that there is a deal afoot. Lessor goons in exchange for the big goon. We’ll see, I guess.

  3. CTF Releases S.O.S. (Stop Ontario’s Standoff) Caledonia Petition
Brantford: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) today released a new petition calling on all levels of government to stop Ontario’s standoff in Caledonia. CTF Ontario Director, Kevin Gaudet said, “The people of Caledonia are definitely in distress given that for 21 months now they have suffered through this standoff. That is why we are issuing an S.O.S. distress signal today in an effort to spur governments to resolve the matter.”
The CTF issued the petition today while visiting groups in Brantford and Caledonia. Gaudet is meeting with a group of seniors in Brantford, a group of citizens in Caledonia and the mayor of Halimand County…..

  4. Having read this blog only a few times, I’m struck by the hateful tone that pervades.
Kate McMillan and most of her readers seem to be a fairly miserable lot.
As a Torontonian, it soothes me to know that most of you people live elsewhere.

  5. That’s exactly what Toronto cops did to Otto Vass a few years back: walked up to him and reduced him to pulp.

  6. Carolyn, I don’t want to upset you – but of the 43,000 unique visitors who have read “this blog” in the past two weeks, a good number of them are centre-of-the-universers just like you.
I promise not tell them where you live.

  7. A retired Air Force colonel decries the evangelicalization of the Air Force academy. I’m submitting this link for two reason, somewhat at odds with each other:
    1. The article itself is a plaint from an old-style U.S. military officer decrying the desecularization of the USAF. The fellow deserves a hearing.
    2. The comments show hints of what the hard Left believers have swallowed. At one point, I discerned that there are some lefties who believe that 9/11 was an ‘inside job’ solely on the basis of an emotionally exciting comparison to the Reichstag fire. Nothing more – just an exciting image designed to tap into those people that think that World War 2 is still worth ward-heeling.
Up to this time, I thought that the ‘Bushitler’ term was used cynically, as part of a calculated smear job. Now, I’m actually beginning to believe that there are lefties who seriously believe it.
Memo to Ron Paul supportes and sympathizers: You don’t have to be a Pliate to say “a plague on both your houses” and mean it.

  8. Ahhhhh, Carolyn needs a hug. You do have to read a bit more of the comments found here before jumping to conclusions though. If you do you can see how Kate and her so called legion of faithful followers get slandered when ever the debate isn’t going the way the leftoid crowd wants it to. The hitler, nazi, kkk alligations start to fly as if they are an intelligent response to a debate. Heck, Kate can just post an article from another source without personal commentary and someone will try and put words in her mouth.
Stick around a bit longer Carolyn and participate. not everyone hates Toronto, just the wankers that think it is the centre of the known universe. (btw, I have friends and family there too)

  9. “BUSH Hatred ‘Insane’?”
This is too FUnnie! A STORY by Peter Berkowitz appears in the Wall Street Journal about “The Insanity of Bush Hatred.” So the DUmmies angrily deny they are insane and post denials which makes them look, you guessed it, INSANE. You can see their insane denials of BDS insanity in this DUmmie THREAD titled, “BUSH Hatred ‘Insane’?” So let now watch the DUmmies rabidly deny their own BDS insanity in Bolshevik Red while the commentary of your humble correspondent, reminding them that lithium is their friend, is in the [brackets]:
    BUSH Hatred “Insane”? (WSJ)
    [I’m wif loony!]
“Hating the president is almost as old as the republic itself. The people, or various factions among them, have indulged in Clinton hatred, Reagan hatred, Nixon hatred, LBJ hatred, FDR hatred, Lincoln hatred, and John Adams hatred, to mention only the more extravagant hatreds that we Americans have conceived for our presidents.”
“But Bush hatred is different. …-

Oh you Mean ‘ol poopy-heads…I hope you all burn for having any opinion that differs with the sanctimonious denizens of the city at the center of the known universe…mean ‘ol poopy heads…you’re all just hateful an’ mean, an’ double bad ungood….(resumes fetal position, replaces thumb in mouth and rocks back and forth humming Kum-Bye-ahh)

  11. In Toronto a building that looks like a penis? It compliments the city hall that looks like a vagina!

  12. Lots of people like Carolyn are the reason somebody is paying Libeskind to build an enormous glass dick at the corner of Yonge and Front. She’s so desperate to be “accepting of new ideas” that even a building that looks exactly like a giant wiener at attention doesn’t trigger her bulls–t meter.
People like Carolyn do live in Hamilton but at least they don’t run the place. They lost the struggle for control to the Mob. Here you see lots Italian-looking things springing up here and there, like the mico-park they built down the middle of Barton Street. Nice flowers and fancy street signs in the center of urban decay so advanced even the crack dealers moved out.
Its still a waste of money, but at least it isn’t a giant glass wiener.

  13. Surfer dude stuns physicists with theory of everything
An impoverished surfer has drawn up a new theory of the universe, seen by some as the Holy Grail of physics, which as received rave reviews from scientists. […]
Lee Smolin at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, describes Lisi’s work as “fabulous”. “It is one of the most compelling unification models I’ve seen in many, many years,” he says. …-

  14. “”In Toronto a building that looks like a penis? It compliments the city hall that looks like a vagina!””
Ya know Joe..that IS cryptically symbolic in a city where the taxpayer gets screwed more often than a Jane street hooker. 😉

  15. Cal2, is that Daniel Libeskind post yours? Looks like TO is trying to compensate for no longer having the world’s tallest phallic symbol by increasing the number of them. Looks like they’ve adopted the opinion that size doesn’t matter.

  16. Normandy beaches, by land and sea

    John Bolton Bloggers Call
One Jerusalem held a bloggers conference call yesterday with Ambassador John Bolton….He spoke briefly about his new book “Surrender is Not an Option” and then answered questions about (among other things): (a) Condoleezza Rice’s Annapolis conference…; (b) the culture at the State Department…; (c) the Iranian nuclear weapons program…; and (d) the foreign policy implications of the 2008 election (which will demonstrate whether we have learned, or forgotten, the lesson of 9/11).

  17. Congrats on the new babies Kate…photos coming soon I hope?In the midst of all the garbage swirling in the media, some good news.Nothing sweeter than new puppies. As the proud Mama of 3 dogs I find great comfort in having my big Newf lay his head on my lap,as I watch the pundits pick away at PMSH,and spew hatred.I’m thinking Carolyn needs a dog to calm her.

  18. “As a Torontonian, it soothes me to know that most of you people live elsewhere.”
I’m a born and bred Torontonian and wished you and your ilk didn’t move here, further wrecking this town.
Perhaps, before posting your ridiculous feelings, you should check in with your constituents at rabble.ca, myblagh (if it’s not dead), bigcitylib, and other assorted, mainly Toronto based, hate blogs run by the left.
Makes this blog look squeeky clean.

  19. martinb . wasnt me, but Im staring at the pe nis on the prairie right now. the calgary tower, with pierre trudeaus , dual digit thrust to western canada in the background. les tower du petro canada.

  20. Well it seems that the Student Union types from UVic have been giving ideas to the chattering class.
“Group wants recruiters out of schools”
The group being folks like Margaret Atwood, Muade Barlow etc.
Thankfully the commenters have put their feelings about this elitest crap very bluntly.

  21. KHS to be sent back .
    the horror , the horror.
the mock horror on Borat Dions face tonight will remind us all of the days when Ed Broadbent would bug his eyes and rant about everything and anything.

  22. Nice of Carolyn to drop by to drop a few condescending remarks.
She leaves little doubt the construction of an enormous glass dick at the corner of Yonge and Front is soooo fitting. Toronto, the city that USED to be known as Toronto the Good has now become home to Dick Heads Unlimited.
The glass dick will also titillate the fancy of all the Lefties, Libs and Dippers in that place who are orgasmic at the prospect of tarnishing this Harper government with Mulroney
Poor Schreiber, gotta go back home to Germany to face more charges and Mulroney suing Robert Theibault. Jeez, enjoy the ride there Carolyn.

  23. cal2 “wasnt me, but Im staring at the pe nis on the prairie right now. the calgary tower,”

  24. I just noticed this link on Drudge. Words fail me.
A court in the ultra-conservative kingdom of Saudi Arabia is punishing a female victim of gang rape with 200 lashes and six months in jail, a newspaper reported on Thursday.
The 19-year-old woman — whose six armed attackers have been sentenced to jail terms — was initially ordered to undergo 90 lashes for “being in the car of an unrelated male at the time of the rape,” the Arab News reported.
But in a new verdict issued after Saudi Arabia’s Higher Judicial Council ordered a retrial, the court in the eastern town of Al-Qatif more than doubled the number of lashes to 200.

  26. Thanks for the link, maz2. I’ve long thought there was something funny about Bush hatred, which caused me to shy away from it.
Now that America’s chattering classes have dropped the pretense that they’re anything other than regular Americans, do you think they’re ready to imbibe the doctrine of the Rule of the People?
Otherwise known as the ‘paranoid style of American politics’? (Come to think of it, they have done so operationally: I mean ‘theoretically’.)

  27. It’s the Maude-Maggie Show.
The best line is Cliff’s: “the traditional role of the military has changed,”; Cliff fell into that one; he cribbed it from Maggie’s latest oeuvre/novel, Warr and Piece*.
Prediction: This show will win a Juno, er Nelly, er Ordure of Canada to be presented by Gigi in 2008.

Group wants recruiters out of schools
The Council of Canadians, founded by well-known nationalists such as Maude Barlow and Margaret Atwood, wants to stop the military from recruiting at high schools across the country.
A resolution was passed at the group’s annual general meeting Oct. 29 after a young member of the Ontario chapter objected to recruitment visits at his high school.
Cliff White, spokesman for the council in the Atlantic region, said the move is partly in response to Canada’s current mission.
“The fact that we’ve moved from peacekeeping to war fighting … the traditional role of the military has changed,” he said. …-

SCC won’t hear refugee appeals of U.S. deserters
OTTAWA – Two U.S. army deserters who fled to Canada and sought refugee status on the grounds of their opposition to the war in Iraq have lost their bids to have the Supreme Court of Canada hear their cases.
The court refused Thursday to hear the appeals of Jeremy Hinzman and Brandon Hughey, who were rejected by the Immigration and Refugee Board in 2005.
The board ruled they would not be at risk of their lives if they returned to the United States, nor were they at risk of “cruel and unusual treatment or punishment.”
Both would face jail time if convicted of desertion. …-

  28. I’ve been working, actually. No naps yet. No puppy pics either – they look a lot like shiny slugs at the moment. Give me a day or so.

  29. Carolyn, thanks for dropping by and sharing your benevolent feelings with us. I haved lived in both Calgary and Toronto, and do prefer Calgary. I am glad you are happy out there. Tonight,I hope you sleep tight and don’t let the bedbugs bite.

  30. Forgot about that, wallyj, the bed bugs have invaded the Ontario Capital. They’re buggy in more ways than one.
