I just learned this morning that Van der Galien Gazette endorsed SDA in the Weblog Awards – consider returning the favour in the Best European category. There are still a few hours left to vote, afaik.
If you were unwittingly exposed to the wretched excuse of a “report” on it by the wretched excuse of a “reporter”, CBC’s Neil MacDonald a couple of nights ago – here’s the text of the speech by France’s President Sarkozy Before Congress.
My apologies to those of you who experienced problems with the way SDA was loading this morning. I played with the template, and it affected some browsers. Drop a line in the comments if you’re still having problems.

  15. Alistair. Unless you sip lattes, listen to jazz, and encourage sexually deviant lifestyles, dippers will always look down on you. They scream for diversity, but only the diversity that they approve of. Although I am not a big country music fan, I would never insult a person because they enjoy that particular type of music. I would much rather associate with CM fans than elitist opera idiots. I mean, really, people enjoy listening to fat howling Italian women screeching opera? At least CM has very deep roots in real Canadian culture. Can’t say the same for opera, jazz or classical music.

I’ve had a number of conversations with people who ‘hate’ country music but love Johnny Cash,just because he covered a Nine Inch Nails song and was produced by Rick Rubin,as were the Dixie Chicks. So similar to you said about diversity, the only country music that’s cool is what they deem it to be. Some idiot said to me that all they play in hell is Rascal Flatts. Well for me,that would be better than Devendra Banhart.

    During recent voting for best Canadian website, I believe you solicited votes rather agressively, rather like the career-minded, manipulative politicians many of your readers (myself among them) dislike. Now, to return a “favor”, you are urging your readers to vote for a European website in a similar election, seemingly without regard to whether or not the reader has ever visited the site. I think you should reconsider your approach to dialogue. The best, most persuasive stance in the long run is that of patient, non-combative seeker of truth. If you became a power seeker addicted to applause, that outcome would be a sad undoing of your potential.

    The best solution: JOBS! Which may mean skills training for the parents and things like lower corporate taxes to encourage businesses to expand to create JOBS.
    Addictions programs. YUP. We all know but maybe it is not socially correct to say it – FAMILY poverty is often linked to drugs, alcohol and gambling addictions.
    Parenting training – Gosh – Dion may just believe that it is the Nanny government who should hire unionistas to provide parenting but some would disagree with him.
    Fetal alcohol prevention programs…etc.
    But it looks like Dion’s big news will be lots of handouts to those who should be encouraged with a hand up to help themselves.

    Scientists have discovered giant “tongues” of ozone routinely swoop down from the upper atmosphere over Eastern Canada and can exacerbate smog problems on the ground.
    In one remarkable instance, ozone levels in a 1,000-kilometre swath from Montreal west across the Great Lakes almost doubled after an “ozone intrusion” dropped out of the stratosphere, the team reports in the journal Nature today.
    The heavenly intrusions can have “significant” impacts on the ground, the researchers report, and are much more common than expected.
    “The assumption is that when you get this big increase in pollution it’s all manmade,” says team leader Wayne Hocking, an atmospheric physicist at the University of Western Ontario. “What we are finding now is that at least some portion of it can be a natural.”
