Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

It’s the PC Remembrance Day!
I’m not speechless enough that I could send these idiots a blistering email. How DARE they?
Oh, look, an e-mail addy of the producers.
Fire away, all!
Argh. “COULDN’T send these idiots a blistering email.”
That sucks.
Just when you thought that Rememberance Day couldn’t possibly be commercialized…
I think I’m going to puke.
Got to admit…it takes a lot of stones to do something like this. Remembrance Day adverts running before Hallowe’en?
Never mind email, I called the bast@rds…
Hey, a newspaper has to make money where it can 🙂
How about spinning this “ad” in a positive way:
Hiking with Uncle Rob: Only happened in my dreams. Uncle Rob was killed while serving with the RCAF in 1941.
Sailing with Ted: Who commanded a Sherman tank while participating in the liberation of the Netherlands.
Playing cribbage with Dad: While he told me stories of his time in England flying Lancs.
Listening to my wife’s grandfather talk about serving in the trenches of WW1 and his lasting problems from breathing in the gas.
Spending time with Oliver who flew “Hallibags” over Germany.
Nov 11th is the day I do indeed remember ALL the special people who have contributed to my world, unfortunately many are now dead and many I never got to meet as they died long before I was born.
Many are dead
I remember my WWII vet grandfather beating up some commie who worked for a newspaper. Okay, I don’t, but I wish I did right now after reading this pap.
I called them and their response was a voice message from last Friday. So I found their email address and sent them the following:
“I am almost speechless about your ad relating November 11th to things like “Mom’s cookies” and “Dancing on Dad’s feet”.
What kind of idiots are you?
Do you not comprehend that November 11th is a solemn day of rememberance for those who have fallen, in the defence of our country?
IT’S NOT A FREAKING HOLIDAY!
Suffice to say, after seeing this outrageous advertisement, I have instructed those running my several businesses to have absolutely nothing to do with your organization. And that is permanent. Period.
You ought to be bloody-well ashamed of yourselves…”
Given that the pin-heads running the business obviously approved the initial ad, I doubt that I will ever receive a pesponse.
It’s the santaclausation of Remembrance Day.
Here is the content of my email:
I’ll play devil’s advocate.
I’ve noticed in the Wpg Remembrance Day papers that family members put in Memorials for their loved ones who died. It’s a great idea that I wished would catch on across the country.
I know it’s possible this ad doesn’t include Memorials, but I’d like to think it does. That would justify the Remembrance Day sale.
Short-term memory loss due to age is my only excuse.
This is an opportunity for family members to honour their loved ones. Instead of knocking it, praise them. Do you know what it costs to put in a memorial and photo? Very expensive.
Good for them. 50% off makes this affordable for more people.
I’ve received the following via email:
“I am so sorry, I take responsibility for not proof reading the ad prior to it going to press. The corrected version will be in our next edition. My Remembrance Day is spent with my best friend and her 91 year old father who served in France. I am so sorry the ad was run the way it did.”
Just when you think things have hit bottom! never ceases to amaze.
djb – I received a similar response:
“Neil, thank you for emailing me. I take full responsibility for the ad and failed to proof read the ad thoroughly. The correct ad will be in the next edition. Personally I attend Remembrance Day celebrations with my girlfriend 91 year old father each year. So sorry.
I think it’s enlightning to read about of these men and women and their exploits of what it really took to win these wars.
but none of the above mentioned crap covers as something to celebrate on Rememberance Day.
it is very similar to “happy holidays” on my “offense meter”.
Well, the response at least seems… reasonable: “Whoops, I screwed up.” (Why, yes, yes you did.)
And I do like how the respondant says *I* not “we”. Less weasely.
Of course, it could just be retro-active posterior covering, but let’s be charitable and assume the best. For now.

good to note that “I” vs “we” difference…
I don’t see that too often
“No purpose in piling on – I think the point has been made.”
…dang! Missed the feeding frenzy again!
“No purpose in piling on – I think the point has been made.”
Not really. Although the editor took responsibility for not proof-reading, what about the author?
Pissing on the War Memorial Chapter II.
“…dang! Missed the feeding frenzy again!”
I saved a femur for you.
And remember that the freedom to do all things on that list came by the hard fought wars against tyranny, but tough brave young men, many of whom never lived long enough to do that list.
What an ingrate society we have. We need a draft in this country to teach some values, self-reliance and respect.
What an utter disgrace from an obviously leftard author. The editor should be canned for not firing this twit at the word go.Sorry Kate. Disagree. We can’t pile on PC’ness enough!!!
john west. a draft. my, why would we need that. here in ontario our little darlings have to do 40 hours of community service to graduate.
As a member of a military family(8 vets in the last three generations)let me offer my two cents worth(3 cents American). Cut the kid some slack. He apologized, and we should just move on. And as far as a “draft” is concerned. Ever serve with conscripted soldiers? I have. Useless as f#$%. No draft for Canada required, just a purge of the leftard moonbats from our education system would suffice. The damage could be undone in a generation or two. GO ARMY!
Our community is holding a veterans day parade this saturday which is something you wont see in SAN FRANCISCO not when their too busy with those stupid gay day events
“Ever serve with conscripted soldiers? I have. Useless as f#$%. ”
The German Army was pretty good. So was the North Vietnamese, the Russian, the
I find it refreshing that when called to account, the person responsible didn’t hedge or twist but took full responsibility.
In my mind, that is class.
Now the people responsible for writing the ad are another matter. I’d say a day spent at the legion hall on rememberance day would be a start. Maybe meeting the people who provided their freedom while those vets remember those who didn’t come back would put the point of rememberance day firmly into head.
The German Army was pretty good. So was the North Vietnamese, the Russian, the

LOL sure if you threaten to kill their families if they do poorly they might be ok.
The reason Canada did so well is beacuse we were mostly volunteer.
I’ve been with the French and they sucked. Imagine taking a bunch of hippies and putting uniforms on them.
Uncle Tom’s nephew and favorite hiking buddy @bcclassified.com didn’t need to “proof read the ad thoroughly”. He just needs to add 11 days and take a little hike to get a job south of the 49th.
If Tom’s nephew showed as much obvious disrespect for Veterans Day in the States as he did for Canada’s Rememberance Day in that pathetic add he would be roasted and eaten like the first Thanksgiving turkey caught by the pilgrims…tail feathers and all.
