Sask NDP Fall For My Ruse

Hoping to take advantage of my declared absence, Lorne “small dead animals doesn’t speak for the people of Saskatchewan” Calvert has scheduled his nomination meeting for Wednesday night.
And not a moment too soon – with no more pulp mills left to “invest in” or casino cash to toss around, the only thing left was a last minute university tuition cut announcement and we’re good to go.
Your Saskatchewan election venting/predictions here!
Update: We go to the polls on November 7. Elections Saskatchewan scoops the Premier. (via 650 CKOM)

  1. I predict that the NDP record of turning a blind eye to fraud, blatent mismanagement of the public sector, indifference towards the needs of both young and old, incompetent administration of the health care system, and a complete lack of public confidence in the administration of justice will be major election issues.

  2. The Dippers will run a Chretien-style campaign, with lots of noise about the Sask Party’s hidden agenda and the threat of losing something or other called “the Saskatchewan way of life,” which an outsider might consider well worth losing anyway. You won’t hear much about sheep again, but something or someone named George W. Alberta could make an appearance.
Inertia being what it is, it’ll be close, though: Sask Party 37; NDP 21, or thereabouts.

  3. Having seen what the Asper owned newspapers did to John Tory I predict with a high degree of certainty that they will go after Brad Wall and the Saskatchewan party with all they’ve got.
Oh, they’ll pretend to support SP and write a stodgy two paragraph editorial officially endorsing SP, then they’ll let their capital L Liberal reporters and columnists have their way, and it won’t be pretty.

  4. Just what the hell has happened to the Education tax cut that is so needed for homeowners. I pay more for property and education taxes combined on my 950 square foot 4 level split in Saskatoon, valued at 200,000 than my father pays for his two story , 1800 square foot, in Ardrie Alberta valued at 470,000. Lorne Calvert needs to rethink his priorities. In the last 3 years Calvert has increased payments to welfare recipients each and every year. My property taxes have gone up every year.Do you see what I’m getting at?
Lorne Calvert has got to go.

  5. It’s only Sask. that has this extreme high amount of Education taxes on property. Thanks Lorne. We need a government with priorities. Raises to welfare and those who choose not to work and contribute must end. Lorne Calvert and his government must think more of the people on welfare than me and my children. Why is Lorne taxing me and my wife (both working) to death with EDUCATION TAXES so a welfare person can sit around and do nothing? Why Lorne, Why ?

  6. dj,
You are so right! A few years ago I was visiting my relatives in Surrey, B.C. and we started talking about property taxes. My Aunt and Uncle paid $2100.00 a year, education included, for a 2700 sq. ft. house, with a 2000 sq. ft. shop, sitting on an acre of land in the city of Surrey. I pay $2000.00 on a 1050 sq. ft. house with a 800 sq. ft. garage on a 50′ by ‘110 foot lot in Saskatoon. With what you same on property taxes in B.C. or Alberta you can pay you annual utilities.

  7. Calvert to return with a small majority.
Sask voters willfully blind to incompetence of socialist government and oblivious to self serving unions and public sector parasites.
Much as Manitoba did and Ontario is in process of doing as we type.

  8. It is a sad thing to say BUT,there appears to be a good deal of residents in this province that JUST DO NOT GET IT and will gleefully vote for the NDP…I just don’t get it BUT they must enjoy parting with their hard earned dollars to give away to everything that the “fist nations people” want instead of the working people….why do the first nation’s need their “own” university, their “own” trade schools…aren’t ours good enough??? no matter what we do for the “first nations” is ever going to be good enough…it is never enough..look at the great Casino deal they just got..who else gets a deal like that….I start a business I have to buy my own equipment etc..etc..but not them we OWE IT TO THEM….everything is always the white people’s fault and it always will be….SO KEEP DISHING OUT THOSE $$$$ they are being put to good use I am sure….
oh yeah by the way…we have a 1350 sq ft house and pay $4770 taxes each year…$2700 for educational taxes in a small town population of 509 people…all working except those that are retired……..but St.Brieux is a great place to live and so is Saskatchewan but why do the taxes have to be so HIGH???

  9. This morning I read James Woods article about the $1000 University tuition cut in the Star Phoenix. Woods, a dedicated socialist propagandist, only briefly mentioned that during the 1999 election Roy Romanow promised to eliminate the first year of tuition all together. Woods, being loyal the the socialist cause, goes on to write ‘But the promise proved highly unpopular as the NDP was reduced to minority status and was never implemented.’
Can anyone believe that? How much more biased can a person get? Woods makes an excuse for the NDP failing to keep a promise! Not only does Woods completely fail to mention that Romanow made the EXACT same promise in 1995 and broke it, but Woods goes so far as to explain why Romanow broke his promise in 1999 by way of a lie. Romanow, like all KKK/CCF/NDPer’s, made a bunch of promises he never intended to keep and quickly dismissed them right after to election. The tuition promise/lie worked for him two elections in a row!
With the MSM so blatantly bias, I am so grateful for the Internet, otherwise we would all be nothing more than a bunch of socialist sheep.

  10. I think you will be significantly more pleased with the results of the Sask election than you will of the Ontario election Kate.
Sask Voters have wised up a lot in the last decade to the evils of long term socialist ruling regimes.
The voters down in Onterrible are positively comatose.

  11. It will be a Sask/Con majority, the size of which will be determined by how good Wall is at keeping his candidates mouths closed and how long he can go without actually speaking about real issues.
Education, Property taxes, crime, healthcare and change will dominate the day-to-day campaign.

  12. Saskatchewan voters now will have a chance to pass a verdict on the NDP enviromental policy-letting our roads and highways go back to nature.

  13. Well Lorne has bought the senior vote with his cheap drugs, the Indian vote with a new casino deal, the metis with renewed funding, the Pa vote with a supposed scheme to buy another sawmill and fake opening of the pulp mill, and now university vote for $1,000.
Who is going to pay. The civil service can afford it with new raises, but the rest of the population who pays taxes {Approx 128,000 private sector employees} are stuck with the bill,
Remember Lorne’s solem promise that the status quo was no on with regards to property taxes. We thought maybe the education tax portion would get relief but instead look for big increases as you “rich” property owners now have increasing value in your homes. Wait for your new assessments!!
The not for profit health care sure provides a lot of profit for the workers who by the way have superior health care with dental, optical, and full service packages that the civil service demands but the ordinary working stiff only dream about. Talk about two tier health care!
I guess another 4 years of socialism will prevail in Sask., and soon all forns of capitalism will be driven from the province as the Regina Manifesto states

  14. I love how racist these comments are.
please, right wingers, continue to show your xenophobia. it’ll only help the campaign against you and your sickening ilk.
“their” own school? what a wonderfully ignorant view of history. thanks again for proving exactly why Saskatchewan rejects your thinking in government again… and again… and again…

  15. jason d,
Your party, the KKK/CCF/NDP, was founded by the KKK, and yes, I can prove that. Why don’t you take a little time and read up on Daniel C. Grant, Tommy’s mentor and fellow grand wizard in the Klan. While you are at it you can read Tommy’s thesis on eugenics or watch him comment on homosexuality being a “mental illness” during the 1968 televised debates.
I have lived in Saskatchewan almost my entire life, only left to work in Alberta, and I can testify that the NDP are the most bigoted and racist people in the province if not the country.

hmmmm seems to a blatant case of teensy-weensy, very tiny penis syndrome. When you can only measure in millimeters, you tend to lash out in child like fashion.
    Doctors can help you.

  17. Re: The Troll
Please leave this up….it displays the intellectual depth of the new left so well we need not expand further…. except to acknowledge it as a public declaration of cerebral harikari.

  18. It’s not respectful to Kathy to leave that “troll” up. That person is either a child or a person who is an adult physically but remains a child mentally. Is there someone who can remove it?

  19. It’s not respectful to Kathy to leave that “troll” up. That person is either a child or a person who is an adult physically but remains a child mentally. Is there someone who can remove it?

  20. Troll,
I think it should come down, it is distracting as well as a rip off of South Park.
However, it is nice to see how angry and desperate the NDP are.

  21. “Raises to welfare and those who choose not to work and contribute must end.” dj at 9:14
You mean the SK Party is going to get those free-loading farmers off the public payroll??? Go Brad, go.

  22. Many people in history have said that the government that governs least, governs best.
One of the reasons they say this is because every dollar a govt worker is paid with is a tax dollar, in other words govt employees PAY NO TAXES.
If a govt worker is paid $100,000/yr, the govt has to tax private industry workers to get that $100,000 tax dollars per yr.
If you laid off that same govt employee and they went on welfare of $30000/yr, then the govt would only have to get $30000/yr in tax dollars from the working people.
And save the govt (working people) $70000/yr in taxes.
Look, the two biggest destroyers of wealth are governments and war, and wars are almost always started by governments.
    Governments do not create wealth.
Governments squander it, destroy it, mis allocate it, misappropriate it, they play with it, and generally make asses of themselves in pretending that they have suddenly have become Captains of Industry simply because they have been elected.
There are no statues erected of socialist committees, ie the collectivists, which have done great things.
Statues are erected to salute INDIVIDUALS who have done great things.
For a nation to do great things, they have to have a govt that encourages individualism, which why the USSR failed and why the United States is still the world beacon of freedom and democracy.
And please note that Communist China’s sudden rise in the economic world has been started by their increasing acceptance of capitalism.
    Go Sask Party.

  23. Here’s a good prediction from one of Canada’s top political analysts, goateed law school student and Blogging Tory A-List blogger “Kerplonka”:
“Prediction: NDP majority. Calvert’s not done anything terribly awful, and with Saskatchewan doing well enough, there’s no reason not to reward that. No reason not to have one.”

    http://kerplonka.blogspot.com/2007/10/howard-who.html
The above propaganda is brought to you by The Blogging Tories.
    The Blogging Tories.

This is why these brain damaged liberal idiots [redundancy] should only be mocked and ridiculed. We wouldn’t take theses losers opinions on any matter so why the hell would anyone listen to their idiotic ramblings about politics? Leave the methadone clinic miscreants to hyperventilate in the gutter; if America [and probably Canada] had drug testing or a quick IQ test prior to voting the leftists degenerates wouldn’t win another election, ever.

  25. Hey folks, manny wants to be a farmer! Its easy, see the real estate ads in the Western Producer or visit one of many real estate agents in Sask.Ever hear of a welfare recipient offering to sell out so someone else can receive all that free money?

  26. Gail Radford-Ross, who wrote two commentaries for the Prairie Policy Centre regarding the Meadow Lake Pulp Mill, is a guest on John Gormley today at 11:15. She uncovered some interesting things regarding the ethics of Asia Pulp and Paper, the company that bailed out the Sk company.

  27. no kidding . . I wonder what the number would be at U Sask ?
“A study finds that 17.6% of social scientists at American universities self-identify themselves as Marxists. And the study’s authors find this percentage to be “low”. By the way, had Coyote been responsible for assigning the Marxist label rather than just self-idntification, my guess is the number would have easily cracked 50%.”

  28. Re the troll….it must have learned a new word today! I think it is a lovely testament to just how low and childish the left are. Way to PO them, Kathy!!!

  29. Posted by: rockyt at October 10, 2007 11:53 AM
    good post.
I’ve been lurking around here for a couple weeks now. I don’t have a problem with Marxism, I actually wish this idea could work. The fact is, with people not willing to work as hard as others.. a system like this will never actually work. Socialists are the ones that don’t like to work as hard as others, but love the idea.
Private industry moves unbelievably fast. Saskatchewan would be a power GIANT if we had well-run coporations directing the progress. Instead, Saskpower sells us dirty coal – for such a dam bargain who wouldn’t vote for the NDP?..
It’s the government that is too slow to adopt environmentally sound building methods. In California, they have made it so people with solar panels on their house can sell electricity back to the power company. Will Saskpower EVER initiate this?
“Posted by: saskboy at October 10, 2007 9:41 AM”
    – Our provincial NDP govy isn’t responsible for this, being it fedral. I don’t see the problem investing in the future of Native peoples, if the money HAS to go somewhere.
Is the money wasted along the way? Could it be done more efficiently? Could everyone share the same schools?
seems easy, but….. people are blind and retarded.
Sorry to drag on, Hello everyone! I’m learning a lot here.

  30. It’s the government that is too slow to adopt environmentally sound building methods. In California, they have made it so people with solar panels on their house can sell electricity back to the power company. Will Saskpower EVER initiate this?
SaskPower, after many years of fighting its own customers on this matter, despite being desperate for new sources of electricity, finally is now allowing this. Coincidentally, Lorne Calvert made the announcement on the eve of an election, which smacks of politics, not good technical or economic policy.
However the SaskPower policy is that they will only allow ‘net metering’ on ‘green’ sources of electricity. Someone wishing to heat their building with a co-generation unit fired by natural gas isn’t eligible. Its restricted to wind, solar, biomass, or water power.

  31. Lorne and Company screwed us royally!! Especially the folks of small town Sask. It’s payback time! We (Sask Party) need to fight tooth and nail on this one!! Not only do need to win the election, we need to pave the road (no pun intended) for the next election in 2012!

  32. Posted by: Mark at October 10, 2007 1:45 PM
I’m really glad to hear this.. but…
Another failed election promise from our friends?
I will believe it when I see it.

  33. forLorne is promising a car on blocks in every garage and either a chicken or some pot in every kitchen.

  34. Sask going to the polls? I’d love to be proven wrong but I doubt if the average voter would ever realize they’ve been bought with their own money and will stay socialist.
Please prove me wrong because I’d dearly love to travel across Saskatchewan again without having to buy a new pair of shocks.
I’m still waiting for the “Elect the NDP in Saskatchewan to keep the Conservatives in Ottawa away from our resources” argument.

  35. James Wood is one of the worst political reporters in the country. He’s a leftist, he’s lazy, and he feels entitled.

  36. Mark,
Net metering has been around since about 2004. The NDP are just re announcing and actually making it tougher to do. Before you could use any technology.
    Here is their new policy.
    http://www.saskpower.com/poweringyourfuture/pdfs/SaskPowerNetMeteringPolicy.pdf
Here is part of an e-mail I received from Saskpower in 2005.
SaskPower’s policies for electricity generators that
are interconnected to the SaskPower electric system
depend on the size of generating plant under
consideration. For relatively small generators, less
than 100 kW in size, SaskPower has implemented the
    SaskPower Small Power Producers Policy.
The following is a brief summary of that Policy:
The Small Power Producers Policy is designed to
accommodate customers who wish to generate up to 100
kilowatts (kW) of electricity for the purpose of
offsetting power that would otherwise be purchased
from SaskPower. This applies to wind and
solar-powered facilities, as well as other viable
    generating sources.
Customers may interconnect a generating facility, up
to 100 kW in size, to the SaskPower Electric System
    subject to the following conditions:
The generating facility must meet SaskPower’s
    interconnection requirements for safety, protection
    and power quality;
The generating facility’s design and equipment must
meet CSA standards, and will be subject to inspection
by the Electrical Inspection Branch including all
    necessary inspection permits and charges;
Two-way metering will be required to separately
measure energy provided to the grid from the generator
    and the energy provided by SaskPower to the customer;
The operator is responsible for the metering and
billing of any energy provided to SaskPower’s grid. At
the customer’s option and expense, SaskPower will
    supply the necessary metering and billing service;
SaskPower will purchase energy provided to the grid at
a firm price of 3.16 ¢/kW·h. This price is based on
SaskPower’s variable cost of electricity from all
other sources and is calculated annually from
information taken from SaskPower’s Annual Report.
Banking of energy is not allowed (i.e the meter does
not turn backward when the generator is feeding power
    to the electric system);
The operator of the generating facility must pay for
    all incremental interconnection costs including
    metering and any upgrades necessary;
The operator must enter into an interconnection
agreement and operating agreement with SaskPower prior
to connection to the grid; and
It will be necessary to supply the energy at one of
    SaskPower’s standard supply voltages.

  37. Troll,
You are typical of what we have come to expect from the left.
Speaking of bravery, I wonder if you, understanding that you truly believe the rhetoric you espouse on here about Kathy, would show us your “grapes” and reveal who you are, with name, address and home and work numbers included. (Mind you if you have that much time on your hands to create such lovely poetry, I doubt that you are gainfully employed)
Let’s see your grapes… Or are you just one of those Internet drive-by cowards?
If you believe your position, state your name.
(And none of that childish, “you first” business. If you can call names and refer to Kate’s “grapes”, you can tell us who you are, big boy….)
    *crickets chirping…*

  38. The Greek…good luck. That worthless piece of crap has disappeared, and never did have the gonads to reveal itself.Like I said earlier, way to go Kathy.Reveal these bums for what they are.
Oh. And they seem to hate Kate also.Wonder why? Truth hurt leftards?

  39. Troll:”Notice how the bint who owns this blog didn’t have the grapes to leave it up.”
Or the troll the grapes to put his real contact info beside his sniping obscenity.
I’m getting a mental image of you as some demented lab monkey that throws its own feces at any sound the other lab animals make from the safety of a cage.
Cowrdly, vile, demented…am I getting close?

  40. Troll:”Notice how the bint who owns this blog didn’t have the grapes to leave it up.”
Ummmmm.I hope not.She is female after all,but more man then you will ever be.So how long have you had a hatred for women?Or do you just hate the one’s who out you?
WLMR…..coward? Nah.It doesn’t have the gonads to be a coward.Being a coward at least takes the ability to admit you are afraid of something.

  41. I was listening to the Murray Wood talk show today and he had a poll asking listeners if they had made up their mind as to which party they were voting for and which party that would be. There were some half-wits who were going to vote NDP because things were going so well in the province and the government had brought in lots of good new programs. What they failed to tell the listener is that probably 90% of the good things they have done in the last two years they stole right out of the Sask Party playbook.
Imagine a wood puppet of Calvert sitting on Brad’s knee repeating what the Sask Party has been advocating for several years now. Time to throw away the puppet and just go with the puppet master. Can’t wait for D-Day!!!

  42. Speaking of polls, remember how much ahead the Sask Party was the last time heading into the election. I for one am not counting on any polling data for granted this time. I am going to get out there and help my Sask Party candidate in every way that I can. Take nothing for granted – get out there and beat the drum! (even though our “candidate” is Brad. (ya,that Brad)

  43. My employer, Babcock and Wilcox Canada, laid off myself and 47 other workers because Culvert didn’t want to build his clean coal outfit. The $20 million he spent in “research” would have paid our wages for 10 years.
