“Soldiers Hand out Newspapers and Rice”

Michael Totten is right, that doesn’t make for an exciting headline. But when that’s the nature of the mission these days for soldiers around Ramadi, that is good news. Read Michael Totten’s excellent latest report from Iraq for the current situation in Anbar province.

  1. Coalition forces lost 45 troops in Sept. – the fifth month in a row the losses have decreased.
Should the pace of casualty reduction continue, the number should be 30 in October a number only seen once since Sept 2003.
While it is somewhat misleading (not to mention callous) to equate casualty rates with victory, this trend, IF it continues, will go a long way to winning the war at home.

  2. This is good. Improvements in hours of power per day, is another good measure. Power allows water purification, gasoline pmps, air conditioning and lights to stay on, business to run.
That is the real victory, when the society gains some sense of normalcy. Then they will notice he difference if it startes to slip again.
You have got to believe that once iraqi’s have some level of peace back they are going to beloathe to give that up after what they have been through.
    Let’s hope it continues

  3. the same can be said of Gitmo. soldiers hand out newspapers, rice , lazy boy recliners. but no headline.
Gitmo detainees gain weight. the only other overly oppressed group to gain so much weight live on the blockade at Caledonia.

  4. I guess that breaking story is right up there with Democrats acknowledge the surge in Iraq is working.

  5. It may lack the excitement of an ambushed convoy or a counter insurgency raid, but it is still damn fine journalism. A tip of the hat to Michael Totten.

  6. Outstanding journalism!
IMO, Totten is a far better journalist than most of the lazy, ideologue, lefty hacks I see or read at The Usual Suspects in broadcast or print journalism.

  7. Totten’s an information hero…people like him are one of keys to victory in securing Iraq from Islamic extremists and nurturing a major democracy in the region.

  8. The US government lied about every aspect in case for going to war in the first place. The media did little to conject the lies. Both have also said the situation has been getting better since the situation begun.
How can anybody believe the gov (and it’s affiliates) and the media now?
We learn by history. And self evidently history is screaming at us not to believe them now.

  9. Johnny, you make a good parrot. Keep on spouting the mindless crap – it’s good for a laugh. Who knows maybe you’ll get a cracker.
