"About 420 bottles of fake blood protein, albumin, were found at hospitals in Hubei province but none had been used to treat patients .... "
is this as bad as the bad blood company set up by Hill n'Billy Clinton that sold tainted blood from prisons?
I'm just glad it didn't get exported.
I hope and pray that it didn't.
Coming soon to a super store near you.....
"No, no, no, dis brud not fake, dis brud good. You buy now! You buy now!"
Of course the 420 bottles were not used to treat patients...... that would be stupid....
It is the other 3,963 bottles I would worry about!
Get used to this type of thing folks. China will be our major supply of food, Pharmaceuticals, toys, clothes, health products, electronics, you name it, in the next 10 years.
The world's population will be relying on China to supply its needs as we tax our industry out of competiveness.
And the situation will get worse as our governments Kyoto tax our fuel efficient industries into curtailing production in the hopes of controlling the climate.
The climate is a red herring as the whole United Nations thrust in Kyoto was to re-distribute the world's wealth. By making Developed economies more in-efficient by making them purchase CO2 credits worth billions of dollars the world's industrial production will be transferred to 3'rd world countries that use the most in-efficient energy to produce the same goods here..
People will still want to eat and demand the lifestyle we have been accustomed to. China is building 500 Coal ( CO2 ) power plants in the next 10 years to provide electricity to accomodate China's expanding economy....just for us and our governments, and NGO's
"China is building 500 Coal ( CO2 ) power plants..."
...and where does all that soot and air pollution end up?
Here.
Of course the fake blood was used; why else was it in a hospital?
The thing about China is that, in its race to industrialize, as well as to move its still massive rural population out of a peasant subsistence agriculture - the rules of health and the welfare of the people have dissolved. Even in China, it's very much 'buyer beware'.
The Chinese entrepreneur has one goal and only one goal - to make money. If his product is fake, is harmful, is even poisonous, if it will break after using it twice, - none of that is relevant. All that is relevant - is making money.
The Chinese government is lagging behind; it hasn't caught up to regulating a capitalist industrialism, ie, one where products are owned and manufactured by individuals rather than the state.
The reaction of the West, as consumers, to its unregulated products, is very important. China cannot afford to lose the consumers of the West.
For a comparison - Mexico has offloaded its peasant population on to the USA. Mexico hasn't made any effort to build an economic and social infrastructure to support its lowest economic level; it's just shipped them off to the US, where they have jobs - that enable them to send billlions of dollars back home to their unemployed family. Meanwhile, Mexico concentrates its economic focus on its increasingly wealthy middle class. Because it doesn't have to look after its peasants.
China is trying to deal with its peasants - but, it's got to get its new industrial entrepreneurs regulated - or the Western Consumer will reject Chinese goods.
The lesson here is not to put anything into your body, including the family pets, from China. It's the worst of the Third World.
Here's a future Soylent Green scenario, after we plow under every inch of food producing acreage in NA to please the envirno nuts for ethanol corn, China becomes our major food source.
A note to any Canadians visiting Florida: don't eat the over-hyped alleged local grouper here. It's pricey and iffy, a good portion of it is Chinese farm raised catfish, a fact.
This tells me a lot about what's really going on in China. If they're breaking their necks to make a buck, to the point where a large company will really truly sell fake blood and they really truly don't care if it kills people, two things must be true.
1)Really bad things happen to the poor, but if you have money you can get away with murder.
2)Life is cheap, morals are cheaper.
no, phantom - the Chinese don't, like us, trust a contractor to 'do the best'. They'll watch him like a hawk when he's on the job. We, on the other hand, will have the contractor in, or hand our car over to the mechanic - and leave.
Then - we find out that expensive repairs have been made to the car that weren't necessary; that the repairs were botched; we find out that when the walls are leaking that the plumbing put into our new room was substandard; we find out that the wiring is a mess and so on.
Elderly people here in Canada and the US are bilked out of their money by home contractors, by insurance scams, by whatever.
So, your two categories of a and b - happen elsewhere in the world. Like here.
JP -- can you speak Chinese fluently or at all?
ET, the difference is one of kind, not merely degree. Here we have a minority of shady operators who get chastised when caught. There shady operation is accepted business practice, and those who get chastised when caught don't have the right connections.
We're talking fake blood here, not a crappy paint job.
That would bring tears to draculas eyes
Friends, Get used to it, China will supply us with everything we need in the next 10 years.
China is not part of Kyoto and business will naturally gravitate to this part of the world to manufacture all the things that the western world wants without having to put up with the Y2Kyoto scam that Citroyen Dion and Taliban Jack, and Elizabeth Green preach.
Don't be worried we'll still get our stuff albeit from China rather than from North American industry...
We may not have those high paying jobs in mining, manufacturing etc... but we'll have lots of jobs flipping hamburgers as most North Americans will still prefer to eat out.
Yeah.... Go Mcdonalds....our future lies with you.
To quote a rather articulate women: "Have they closed the borders yet?"
Right wingers should be happy: "quality" goods from China are a perfect example of globalization and free trade in action.
Aren't man-made systems wonderful?
It's the Left who are ecstatic with China trade, just ask one of their Patron Saints, Mo Strong.
Jean Chretien is another big pusher, vested interests will do that.
Free trade for most of us meant free trade between Canada and the US. Can't conveniently blame free trade for unscrupulous Chinks. Chinks is not a PC term for Chinese but it's fitting when we're being sent dangerous products, whether in the form of foodstuffs, raw materials for drugs or pet foods.
Where that fake blood would end up doubt even Confucius would know but it was going to be used for something.
It's up to the consumer when governments don't act. We stop buying Chinese. We better be wary of Chinese food as well. Where do ethnic Chinese restaurants get their foodstuffs?
Boycotting Chinese imports will take a long time, it crosses just about everything we buy. They are the experts at creating knock-offs on everything from jewelery to fake poop.
Quality goods from China is an oxymoron.
Everything from there is crap, crap, crap!
Tired of that crap. Want to buy something good quality but can't find it - Chinese crap everywhere. The stores don't stock anymore - can't call that stock - it's rather pollution, infestation, you name it.
I would gladly pay twice more for a tool that won't break because it's made in the US, but it's not available, because the factory is bankrupt long time ago when they moved manufacturing to China and the gooks stole their trade secrets and built 10 more factories like that.
We got ourselves into this mess, because our corporations pay the managers for the year end results. They come up with idiotic cost cutting methods that have life span of two years, get their bonuses and take off, then the companies are left with the mess the management never told them about, like intellectual property theft, unreported semi-counterfeit surplus production etc.
Counterfeit Colgate was indeed made by Colgate, but in the best traditions of socialist theft based economy it was stolen before QC with the blessing of communist party officials and union leaders etc. Where in Colgate business plans certified by the big 6 audit companies there is a provision for that?
Ralph Nader is onto the new "China Syndrome" today criticizing his government, we need someone to tweak our powers that be to get onto the problem.
Who ya gonna call is the question, we don't need to worry about any help from Mo Strong and his cronies.
