Is a dish best served on the front page of a competing newspaper.
My next column was an attack on the pretend-solidarity of the Socialist Party leadership. It claimed to be on the side of the oppressed but in practice always sided with dictators, provided these dictators opposed the United States. Hegeman didn’t like it. At all.As she herself put it, she “just didn’t agree”.
‘And if I insist?’ I asked.
“Well, then we have a serious problem,” she replied. There it was, censorship raising its ugly head.
Now what was I going to do? I’d spent the weeks in between columns two and three thinking about that question. An obvious choice was to blow my top and hand in my resignation. But the more I thought about it, the more I was persuaded that there was a better way. I wasn’t going to get mad. I was going to get even. I was given a unique chance to show the Dutch viewing audience what really went on behind the scenes of Dutch public broadcasting’s flagship current affairs program, and I wasn’t about to walk away from it.

Joshua Livestro could teach ambush tactics to the special forces of the world.
Brilliant!
Were's our CBC Trojan Horse? I personally don't listen to it, and I imagine that there is no such animal as a conservative CBC'er. Now if Kate, or one of you other bright sparks could tolerate a short stint at CBC, theres a chance we could all at least have a good laugh as those leftly rats scurry about searching for cover while spewing denials over their shoulders.
A great read!!
Geothermal says it all. Time for the Camo Kate to emerge. CBC/Pravda is your assignment.
Pat
I sti;; don't understand why conservatives expect anything less than unprincipled/uncivil out put from socilaists.
Socialists do not "debate" their sacred dogma...they propagate it, they indoctrinate with it, but they do not "debate" it...das is verboten!
A conservative doing into a "debate" acommodated by lefty apparatchiks can expect a personal ambush and the conversation to scatter over a gazillion irrelevant issues but the one thing that will not be "debated" is the sacred lefty dogma and its icons.
Interesting isn't it - Lefties in Holland's taxpayer funded media, same thing at BBC in the UK, same thing in Canada at CBC.
All lefties all the time kept by government coerced taxed money!
It's time for conservative bloggers the world over to join voices and rout these cancerous taxpayer funded media from their leftist feathered nests!
Don't forget PBS and the NPR in the States Joe.
The only thing that I think Livestro has wrong is his claim of censorship. He wasn't censored. He is still free to publish his column elsewhere. The refusal of a medium to publish, broadcast, or otherwise disseminate something is not censorship. There are ample reasons to critize NPS here, but their actions do not constitute censorship.
Usually, it is left-wingers crying "censorship" when, for example, a country radio station won't broadcast recordings by the Dixie Chicks. They're wrong, and Livestro is wrong to claim censorship here, although he is right to object to NPS's behavior and call our attention to it.
SV Jim the point your missing is that this is a public broadcaster with a requirement to present all sides. I don't believe in government funded broadcasters but if the government is going shake me down to pay for a TV station the least they could do is include my point of view instead of wall to wall leftards (CBC anyone?).
Problem with doing the CBC version of this is that they'd never make the 'mistake' that NPS did of hiring a conservative. There could be no equivalent ambush, unless a conservative pretended to be a leftie first.
DDT, I couldn't agree with you more. If hope the damned thing gets privatized PDQ. They can promote whatever slant they want, as long as I don't have to pay for it.
What Joe Molnar said!
Wow. That was a good read. No doubt this happens at the CBC and BBC as well.
There's a reason why lefties control a government funded communications network - there are not a lot of people on the right side of the spectrum who could look at themselves in the mirror every morning if they were sucking on the public teat like that.
The usial plan of dirty leftists scum lie to the unprivlaged workers once you take power then send out your thugs and kill the workers SCREW KARL MARX
When a public network goes looking for directors and staff they will never get the cream of the crop.
That's how the second raters get to be in charge.
It's only natural that lefties end up running the show and they surely don't want to shown up by someone with real talent.
Mr. Livestro's tale is well told but no surprise.
What the CBC tends to do with conservatives is ask them to come on to speak their point and then cancel them at the last minute saying they decided to not run the story. Think the last published case of this was about the governments decision to allow police representation on judge selection boards and a SK woman.
Regarding censorship
It is true this isn't Chavez closing a TV station because they were critical of him and it isn't the actual government outlawing a point of view. It is true that other media outlets are and were quite happy to publish his comments.
What we have here is an entity hiring this person, which means that he would not really have rights to publish elsewhere, you work for us, we publish your stuff. All the stuff published regarding this ordeal happened after he left the station. This entity controlled what he could publish during his time there and refused to do so even though they are mandated to publish a varied set of views. It seems they wanted a pet conservative talking about inane items. Perhaps they thought that some might tune in, see the drivel published by their pet, see some of the "progressive ideas" by others and have an epihany and convert.
One of the interesting things about politics is they tend to label themselves with terms that are opposite to what they intend. What really is progressive about socialism?
