Intellectuals
def: an Air-Head who pretends to understand stupidity and then looks down their nose at others who see the folly for what it is. Intellectal-ramus also is useless when it comes to anything productive such as building a house. Habitat; Starbucks.
[ As George Orwell said -- and I'm sure, would have said specifically about the rage over CO2 levels -- there are some ideas so silly that only intellectuals can believe them. Alas, intellectuals hold power out of all proportion to their numbers in any literate society.] David Warren, Ottawa Citizen.

Why Intellectuals Like Genocide
by Theodore Dalrymple (July 2007)
Seemingly arcane historical disputes can often cast a powerful light on the state of our collective soul. It is for that reason that I like to read books on obscure subjects: they are often more illuminating than books that at first sight are more immediately relevant to our current situation. For, as Emily Dickinson put it, success in indirection lies.
In 2002, the Australian free-lance historian and journalist, Keith Windschuttle, published a book that created a controversy that has still not died down. Entitled ‘The Fabrication of Aboriginal History,’ it sets out to destroy the idea that there had been a genocide of Tasmanian aborigines carried out by the early European settlers of the island.
For about the previous quarter century, it was more or less an historical orthodoxy that there had been such a genocide. ...-

Cannibalism as doctrine: an archaic rite. God within.
Doctrine of Transubstantiation
Eleventh century dogma of the Catholic Church; proclaiming that in Holy Communion, the bread and wine of the host are transmogrified into the body and blood of Christ; doctrinal basis for the validity of what is obviously a placebo sacrament.
1959 Wasson Trans. New York Acad. Sci., 21: 333. The faithful were not obliged to accept the dogma of Transubstantiation in order to know that they had partaken of the body of Christ(deoxy.org)

When we see ultra insiders like the Rothschilds have seen economic gains for their cartel in profiteering from the fear mongering of GW, we know the con is as big as it gets.
I wonder if the toxic irony of young Baron de Rothschild offering advice to the muddied masses to save the planet by limiting their mobility and food purchases yet the Baron jets all over the world running "eco education adventures" at 250K$ a pop, is lost on the GW disciples who blindly follow this elitist apostle of sustainability regulatory tyranny? ...well, at least regulatory tyranny for the soiled masses but obviously not for the illuminated economic elite.
I think the hammer and sicle just got a fresh coat of green paint....and it's well heeled apostles are not prepared to lead by example where the sacrifies are concerned.

The Global Warming - Radical Islam Convergence
One of the London car bomb suspects told relatives he was working on a top-secret project related to global warming.
A CAR bomb plot suspect allegedly asked his family to pray for him just hours before crashing a burning Jeep into the front of Glasgow airport.
Engineer Kafeel Ahmed, 28, told relatives he was working on a top-secret project in the UK “linked to global warming” and would complete his mission.
In a last phone call he said, “An earlier presentation had failed” – an apparent reference to the two failed car bombs in London’s West End. Ahmed, who is suspected of making all three car bombs, had said weeks earlier that he would soon be “inaccessible” for up to a week. ...-

The fact that no one in the news media writes a column or story criticizing this behavior is pretty strong evidence that thier ethical standards are just as lax.

TORONTO (CP) - Canadians are being warned not to eat some fresh and frozen ground beef products.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says the meat may contain E. coli bacteria, which can be deadly in some cases.
There have been five reported illnesses connected with the tainted beef.
Affected fresh ground beef was sold in Safeway and some independent grocery stores in British Columbia and Alberta between May 24 and June 5.
Consumers are also being told to avoid frozen beef patties sold under the Butcher's Cut and Sunny Dawn brand names.
The contaminated patties were sold after May 24 in Safeway and independent stores in Western Canada, Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Ontario west of Thunder Bay.
Ron, thank you for your input. But sorry I *HAVE* to say this, NOT GOOD ENOUGH.
If a person defending journalists can only come up with four well known examples of news people who watch dog the ethics of their own industry then that pretty much proves *MY* point.
That's like saying FOUR drug dealers saw the light and gave up dealing and turned in their suppliers so drug dealers aren't so bad.
Nope, 'fraid that doesn't work.
Journalists are low lifes who lack the humility to be satisfied as just living as an unknown "one of the crowd" and are incapable or too lazy to achieve anything remarkable themselves so they they leech fame off the triumphs & tragedies of others.
Ron, thanks for that link to Warren's article.
HWM. pay not mind to the leftoid anti-American columnist. I believe her rant is mostly about using an "toxic political baggage" symbol from those damn Yankees to make a statement. It is essentially akin to saying the "V-for Victory" sign is nothing more than a British propaganda started by Winston Churchill.
I'll give her credit though, she implores readers to lobby government for better pay and equipment for our forces, volunteering and supporting the legion. This is much better advice than Taliban Jack could ever give.

Try this instead:
"While they were eating, Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and giving it to his disciples said, "Take and eat; this is my body." Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins. " Matthew 26:26-28

"Carbon dioxide from man-made sources rises to the atmosphere and then stays there for 50, 100, or even 200 years. This unprecedented buildup of CO2 then traps heat that would otherwise escape our atmosphere, threatening us all.
"This is nonsense," says Tom V. Segalstad, head of the Geological Museum at the University of Oslo and formerly an expert reviewer with the same IPCC. He laments the paucity of geologic knowledge among IPCC scientists -- a knowledge that is central to understanding climate change, in his view, since geologic processes ultimately determine the level of atmospheric CO2."

I don't accept the Catholic doctrine of transubstantiation but rather hold to the idea that if God who has no flesh said that his flesh is bread then when I eat that bread I eat the flesh of God. Likewise the wine or juice. God has no blood except that which He calls blood and so I drink it when I partake in Holy Communion.

The Globe and Mail has had a poll running all day Sat.
Do you agree with a civilian (presumably this particular civilian) being appointed Commissioner of the RCMP
At 7:30 pm MST the total count was 6602 votes with 82% recording a "yes".
I guess we will find out in due course if this support has any meaning. Whatever, no doubt it will be used as political fodder for the Yes side anyway.
Really what has been gained. The Liberals covertly and systematically molded the force into what it is today by forcing their hiring policies (a great deal), transfer (not so much), and particularly their promotion policies (covertly, of course) to the ranks of Inspector and above. Those who supported the Liberals and their ideological premises did fine while others didn't fare all that well. Dissonance was punished. The Mulroney/Liberal people had lots of time to make changes they knew should be made but it was not in their own interests to do so. It has been the rank and file of the Force that has paid the price.
Splitting the RCMP apart and setting up CSIS as was done by the bureaucrats/politicians was a disaster and many wheels have fallen off since 1983/84. This has the makings of another disaster.
Now we have a civilian head who has been a professional bureaucrat and with probably barely enough "insider" information to think he has all the answers. Not likely. He came up in the same system that has wrought far to much "bad stuff" that is affecting huge parts of the force today as well as far to many other federal institutions.
I suppose it is only fitting that the commissioner now be a politically correct politician/bureaucrat because that is in fact what the hierarchy of the Force has, in to large a part, become anyway.
While Day is making a big thing about the job search being done by an outside agency, check out the people who were in on the short-listing of the eight (?) candidates (Globe, Sat) - most all present/former politicians or bureaucrats. There was an opportunity here to consult with a whole lot of Sgts/SSgts/Inspectors, and Superintendents as to who might be capable of bringing about the changes that most all of them know are needed. These are operational people who for the most part, should have been listened to very carefully prior to the appointment but were probably not. They certainly are not going to speak their mind right now as it could be career threatening or even worse, career ending.
Now we have a government that is intent on overtly controlling the federal police force despite what they might say in defense of this appointment.
The only thing left now is to see how many present/dated politically correct politicians/bureaucrats will end up on the new Task Force that will be on the inner circle of control of whatever change occurs.
I'm getting a kick out of watching the celebs on this Live Earth fiasco.
Dave Matthews, who is a tremendous musician, could barely keep a straight face while telling the folks at home how he's getting his family to cut down on energy use. He says his daughters sometimes turn off the tap while brushing their teeth.
Cameron Diaz wasn't much better. She suggested turning the water off when you shave your legs.
Thank gawd for celebrities making the big sacrifices to ensure the planet is saved. Now I can sleep at night in my home that would get lost in Diaz's pool house.
Calgary Clipper, you have made some huge assuptions and put them out there as fact.
Show me where the Government is wanting to control the Force.
You cant claim to read Mr. Days mind.
Mr Elliot will probably make a fine commissioner.
You dont need to have a background in the force to be able to solve their problems.
I read Mr. Elliots statement, and nowhere did he claim to have the answers.
Any one person who claims to have answers to problems of this type are fools.
What i heard Mr. Elliot say is that he will work with the force, and help them find the answers. Thats what a good manager does.
In fact, in my experience, it takes someone with no knowledge of the work to help find the correct answers.
If the members of the RCMP are smart, they will get behind this man, and assisst in getting the force in shape.
In light of the above references to transubstantiation I thought it might be of interest to look at a definition from MacGregor's Dictionary of Religion and Philosophy for consubstantiation.
"Against the eucharistic doctrine of transubstantiation, which by the 12c. had become widely accepted and then made the de fide as the official doctrine of the Church by the Lateran Council in 1215, Luther offered an alternative formula. According to the transubstantiation theory, the substance of the bread and wine is changed during the mass when the priest consecrates them. Luther offered instead the theory of consubstatiation, according to which, after the consecration, the substance of the bread and wine, on the one hand, and, on the other, of the Body and Blood of Christ, co-exists. He used the analogy of iron put into the fire: they are united, yet each remains unchanged. Both doctrines depend on and perpetuate the categories of an Aristotelian philosophy, which, despite its brillian ingenuity, in the time of the 4c. B.C.E., is generally regarded as outmoded in respect of this part of its vocabulary; nevertheless, both transubstantiation and consubstantiation were serious attempts to state the Catholic doctrine that Christ is really present in the consecrated bread and wine, not only symbolically as a wedding ring is a symbolic token of a marriage, although by no means necessary to the reality or validity of the marriage."
While this is all a bit of an oversimplification, can you see on the basis of these two arguments why the major rift in Christendom should be sustained???
Neither can I.

The late Rev Grady Nutt once posed this question; What do you have when you have two Christians in a pew? Answer; A Fight!
Truth be known there is much more keeping the protties and the dogans apart than the mass/communion debate. I hold that if everyone thinks the same no one is thinking at all so in my view competition between the churches improves all the churces. Put another way, the fear of challenging authourity is the one sure way to bring about dictatorship.

HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) -- Police arrested 16 more business leaders in a crackdown on those suspected of violating the government's order to slash prices by 50 percent, the official media reported Sunday. The falling prices have caused stampedes, panic buying and near-riots by impoverished Zimbabweans. Pakistan facing another Lal Masjid
The Hindu ^ | 7/8/07
Islamabad, July 8 (PTI): Battling the radicals holed up in Lal Masjid, Pakistan security forces are gearing up to take on another set of well entrenched extremists led by a cleric, in a tribal area, who has issued a decree asking people to attack anyone supporting the crackdown on the Islamabad mosque.
The Government has decided to launch a massive operation against the banned Tehrik-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat Mohammadi (TNSM) leader Maulana Fazalullah in the tribal Malakand agency of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP), media reports said here.
Fazalullah is a close associate of Lal Masjid cleric Abdul Aziz, arrested while trying to sneak out from the besieged mosque in a burqa four days ago, and his younger brother Abdul Rashid Ghazi, who is leading the resistance.
Fresh deployment of troops started following an announcement of war against security forces by Fazalullah after the operation against Lal Masjid, the Post daily said.

The case for mistrusting Muslims
By Theodore Dalrymple
ARRIVING IN BRITAIN by air the day after two men crashed a gasoline-laden Jeep Cherokee into the main terminal at Glasgow's international airport, and a couple of days after two car bombs were discovered in the heart of London, I was surprised by how calm everybody was.
Apart from the prohibition of passenger drop-off and pickup next to the terminal building at Birmingham Airport, everything was as usual. Men and women in Muslim garb mingled in the crowd with perfect tranquillity, expecting neither violence nor even verbal reproach.
Was this a sign of the admirable tolerance of British society, or of its bovine complacency born of an inability, or unwillingness, to make the effort to defend itself? Was it decency, cowardice or stupidity?
I really don't know anymore, which is an indication of the problem: Only time will tell, and by then it might be too late.
A friend who met me at the airport said something that must by now be true of many ordinary British people. Just as we used to wonder, on meeting Germans of a certain age, what they had done during World War II, so she wondered, when she found herself next to a young Muslim on a bus or a train, what he thought of the various bombings perpetrated by his co-religionists and whether he might be a bomber. She found herself looking for the nearest exit, as we are all enjoined to do by flight attendants before the plane takes off, in case of the need for swift exit....-
