Aaron Hanscom visits with in-laws in Spain;
Spain was under Islamic rule for 800 years, and many Muslims blame Spaniards for the loss of Al-Ándalus. Spanish politician and terrorism expert Gustavo de Arístegui has documented how there is already a policy underway to reconquer land and monuments that were once under the domain of Islam. In an interview with me last year, Arístegui said, “Spanish society today is not willing or ready to accept the threat we face.”My conversations with Spaniards this month gave me reasons for hope and despair. While most people seem to be coming to the reluctant conclusion that radical Islamists pose a threat to their way of life (the first step in defeating radical Islam), they remain unsure how to fight back.

From the same article:
Then there was the discussion I had with my other brother-in-law and his girlfriend in Madrid. They asked my wife and me if we ever considered moving to Spain. We told them that our fear about the future of Europe was a main reason we never gave it serious thought. They agreed that tensions with Muslim immigrants would only increase in the future. However, they both still clung to the idea that Spain would be safer if it continued to keep its distance from the United States.
I wonder if, or perhaps when, Islam takes over Spain and starts beheading non believers who they will call on to save their sorry butts.
Interesting article.
I recommend one also reads the comments following the article.
Where's "El Cid" when ya need the guy?
"... remain unsure of how to fight back."
I call bullshyte on all Spaniards who feign ignorance on how to fight back against islamism. Bull. Shyte.
In case the Spaniards need it spelled out:
1. Throw aside the notion of multiculturalism -- the "we are the world", every culture is of equal inherent worth nonsense that has brought Spain to this place. (Unless this occurs, it's all hopeless.)
2. Tighten immigration and legislate profiling.
3. Bring back the death sentence for assisting in terrorist acts, aiding and abetting the perpetrators of terrorist acts, or conspiring to commit terrorist acts on Spanish soil. (You want to die for Allah, we will expedite that wish while preserving the peace of the citizenry.)
4. Immediately deport imams and mullahs who preach hatred of the West in mosques and/or distribute such material. (From the mosque to the airport; first flight to Algeria or whatever islamic nation they so desire; family may fly with the imam too.)
5. Send Spanish troops into the world and start POUNDING THE LIVING HELL out of islamofascists the world over on their turf.
I actually think the Spaniards know how to fight back but lack the moral clarity and political will to see it through. The islamists are correct on this part: the West, by and large, is too decadent and unprincipled to deal with the reality of islamist ideology.
It isn't impossible to greatly mitigate the likelihood of islamists reconquering Spain. But as Mr. Hanscom says, the key is realizing the THREAT.
I think too many people in the world think that this is a U.S. vrs radical Islam conflict and that if they stay out of the way , they will be safe. Unfortunately, radical Islam understands that this a global conflict, and that the U.S. is just a roadblock to the greater goal.
OFF TOPIC:
Kate,
It was nice to meet you at the Saskatchewan Picnic.
I sent you an email with details of photos and my post etc.
I enjoyed your political blogging stories!!
Always amusing to read about Islamist claims on Spain (Al-Andalus) and their grumbling about the Reconquista.
But hang on now! RE-conquista?
"Reconquista" means "reconquest." Yes indeed, Spain was conquered by the Muslims in the Eighth Century then finally fully reconquered by 1492.
So there we have it: a mark of the insanity and delusion of the Islamists is their obsession with an event that occurred over 500 years ago in reaction to event that occurred over 1200 years ago!*
I have to say I've had some good discussions with Spanish military officers in my time. One of them once very frankly told me that his countrymen were in deep, deep denial about the Islamist threat to Spain. It was far less intellectually challenging to blame it all on Bush and head for cover...
* Which, I suppose, points them in the same delusional club as those still fussed about the Plains of Abraham, the Battle of the Boyne or Kosovo Polje.
"What I cannot understand is that Spaniards are so blind as to what is happening all around, like they are living in denial…”
Couldn't the above quote also have been made the average Canadian?
Have the Spaniards ever considered using guns to fight back. That's more or less how you fight back against a mortal enemy isn't it?
I urge everyone to read America Alone by Mark Steyn.
Radical Islamists will be nicer to them if they surrender faster. no? Andalusians aka 'Spanish' are too funny. they'll probably enjoy an inglorious death.
the Spanish already rolled over and submitted to the will of Allah. note their last election.
