  3. MPs in GTA oppose seat reshuffle
    Under Bill C-56, Ontario is projected to get 10 new seats by 2014. But Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty has already come out swinging against that formula, saying it’s not enough and not fair, and now it seems most of the GTA MPs in the Commons are levelling the same critique.
    Ahhh, but what about Premier Jean Charest, who is also against the formula, but for reasons opposite to McGuinty. And what about the Quebec Liberal MPs, who have been strangely silent on how this re-distribution reduces Quebec influence in Ottawa.
    If played properly by the CPC, and with some help from the media, this issue could produce another division within the LPC. I know it’s asking too much, but couldn’t the media press Dion to state specifically how he would do this seat re-destirbution differently from Harper ?
    We’ll know more when this Bill goes to Committee, and Liberal MPs get on record as to what changes they want.

    Online criminals have wasted no time in exploiting Friday’s much-hyped launch of the iPhone.
    The Sans Internet Storm Centre has warned of an email scam that lures users with the promise of a free iPhone.
    Recipients who click on the link in the message are guided to a webpage that attempts to exploit several known flaws in Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser to recruit the victim to a botnet.
    A second attack uses a mixture of social engineering, malware and cross-site scripting to defraud victims.
    The attack is launched when a user visits a specially crafted web page that attempts to exploit a number of previously disclosed vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer 6 and 7 to install a Trojan application.
    The Trojan activates every time the user visits Yahoo.com or Google.com, at which point a pop-up is launched advertising a site named iPhone.com.
    Normally, http://www.iphone.com will redirect to Apple’s iPhone page, but the Trojan spoofs the iPhone.com domain name and directs users to a fake retail site claiming to be iphone.com and using Apple’s logo and iPhone images.

  13. It’s pretty common to bash the CBC news here, but does anyone realize just how irrelevant it’s become? It not only trails perennial leader CTV News with Count Floyd, but upstart Global National with Kevin Newman also beats out lamebrain Mansbridge. Combined, CTV/Global have more than 3 times as many viewers than the CBC, which has less than 700,000 viewers. The CBC has been losing viewers ever since Barbara Frum’s unfortunate death (and I’m not ashamed to admit I used to love watching her on the Journal; she was my idea of what a good journalist should be. She wasn’t rude or condescending, but she was persistent and wouldn’t accept evasive half-answers. Too bad the CBC never developed anyone else like her.).
    At any rate, I’m not going to worry anymore about what CBC news reports or doesn’t report; the only people listening are the leftards whose minds* are all ready made up.

  24. Update on “Bless the Beasts and Children” [MSM ignores massacre]

    Since the publication of “Bless the Beasts and Children” many questions have arisen: some of which I can and will answer here, and some whose answers lie elsewhere.
    Today, late afternoon on 3 July in Baqubah, Colonel Hiduit from 2nd Brigade 5th Iraqi Army was able to provide some additional details about the murders, as the ongoing investigation begins to yield more facts. The name of the village was not on any maps I examined while preparing the dispatch, but Colonel Hiduit said the name is al Hamira. Coordinates to the area of the gravesites are MC 679 381.
    In my dispatch, I reported that six people were killed, but mentioned that Iraqi soldiers were still digging out bodies when I left. A few hours ago, Colonel Hiduit put the number at 10-14, and said the search for bodies had ended. I made video of the graves, bodies and of interviews with Iraqi and American soldiers while we still were at the scene and have been working to make material from this available on this website.
    As the investigation unfolds more pertinent details, I’ll continue to update the story. But the biggest question rippling across the internet–“Why hasn’t the mainstream media picked this up?” –is something only representatives of mainstream media can answer.
    In fairness, several large outlets did publish it online: National Review Online and Fox News were both quick to place the story prominently on their websites. A few others also published excerpts. It was even briefly up on the Drudge Report. On the blog front, Instapundit, Hugh Hewitt, Blackfive, Andrew Sullivan, Captain’s Quarters and many others picked it up.
    But for those publications who actually had people embedded in Baqubah when the story first broke and still failed to cover it, their malaise is inexplicable. I do not know why all failed to report the murders and booby-trapped village: apparently no reporters bothered to go out there, even though it’s only about 3.5 miles from this base. Any one of the reporters currently in Baqubah could still go to these coordinates and follow his or her nose and find the gravesites.
    On this question of media selectivity, the blogosphere has become incensed that big media mostly ignored the murders, especially given that there are reporters currently in Baqubah. Newsbusters and countless others are on it….-

    While I agree she was better than just about anyone at the CBC, she was pretty good at evasive half questions herself, as in this famous clip. (Also my excuse to provide the thread with a view of the last effective leader Britain – and maybe all of Europe – had.)
