June is a heavy travel month for me and today I'm again heading stateside for 8 days of dog shows. Unless the weather turns for the worse, I'll be camping on the grounds for at least some of the circuit and internet access will be sketchy.
I've written a number of general interest posts that are scheduled to appear automatically, so keep that in mind when they appear. Note: for some reason, these automated posts sometimes refuse to take comments. If one of the guest bloggers notice, they may fix it, otherwise, my apologies - it's just a glitch you'll have to live with.
Also - remember that legitimate comments caught in the filter are less likely to be noticed and released. If you receive a message that your comment has been held, go back and rewrite to eliminate excessive linkage or words that may have tripped the spam filter (online, insurance, porn, etc.) Ignore the trolls and faux-conservative provocateurs. I'll deal with those when I check in.
The usual crew of guest bloggers are invited to pop by. These folks do a great job, and help me manage these needed breaks. SDA is a high-frequency site by nearly anyone's standard - getting away is my secret to avoiding burnout. So, if you're inclined, consider sending a "case of beer" their way via the paypal button at their own sites, or the donation link at the left. (Be sure to let me know who it's for.)
I'll be back in about 10 days - wish us luck!
Open thread for your tips.

2. To anyone who attacks PMSH for being too tough on China:
"Horrified Chinese have followed the stark, unusually frank images of the slaves on television as they were rescued by police. Some children still wore their school uniforms..."
This from a story about how corrupt police and communist party officials helped protect slave masters. As many as a thousand children were sold and used as slave labour in factories in China. FYI:the price? About $50.

Seems that Canada has it's own version of Albert Gore, the preacher man, and his Kyoto as a Kult following.
The Montreal Gazette discloses the inner workings of an eco-fanatic.
Green Prophet takes a sidestep
MICHELLE LALONDE, The Gazette
Published: Monday, June 18, 2007
Liberal leader Stephane Dion calls him "Le Bon Steven." Others have dubbed him the "Green Jesus of Montreal," the "Green Prophet," and "Mr. Climate Change."
[ Sure sounds like a religious, Kult kinda thing ]
When rumours began to circulate a few months ago that Steven Guilbeault intended to jump into politics after 10 years as the climate change pointman with Greenpeace Canada and director of Greenpeace Quebec, politicos of all stripes were falling over each other to claim him as their own.
[ More like falling all over them selves in laughter]
He has such a high profile in Quebec politics and the Canadian environmental movement that some argue he long ago became "bigger than Greenpeace" in terms of his impact and credibility.
[ Ask Dr Patrick Moore, the founder, how big Greenpeace credentials are today.]
Steven Guilbeault's knack for making complicated issues like climate change understandable to the public will be greatly missed, says Robert Perreault of Le Conseil regional de l'environnement.
[ More like 'Dumbed-Down' ?? So Mr Steve Guilable understands climate change but any credible climatologist will tell you nobody really does. Nobody disputes that the climate is changing. It always has. It is the man-made part and the Kyoto carbon-credit part that is a fraud. Patrick Moore knew this a long time ago.]
In his time as director of Greenpeace Quebec, membership has grown from 6,000 to close to 30,000. Guilbeault is quick to note his decade with Greenpeace coincided with a gigantic leap in public interest in environmental issues.
[ Only because the media has been complicit in promoting the fraud called Kyoto. Complete with the 'hockey stick graph'.]
"Climate change took on an important role in raising a wave of awareness of a whole host of environmental issues," he said.
[ Note that only 'climate change is used. Has Kyoto, AGW been dropped like a hot potato ?]
But others credit Guilbeault directly for the growth of popularity in Quebec of Greenpeace, if not environmentalism itself.
"He is the best-known environmentalist in French Canada, and the best-known French environmentalist in English Canada," Dion said.
[ Suzuki is also well known --- not all complimentary. ]
Dion taught Guilbeault at the Universite de Montreal and the two had extensive dealings when Dion was federal environment minister.
[ Now THAT explains it !!]
"He was demanding but fair," Dion said. You have some activists who are there only to criticize and there comes a point where they lose their credibility and effectiveness. ...
[ An understaement if I ever heard one.]
Steven is determined, competent, he understands the issues and he's fair, so that's a good cocktail."
[ In this context, more like a dog's breakfast :)]
Guilbeault was tagged with the Green Jesus of Montreal nickname years ago by a Montreal newspaper, partly because he bears a passing resemblance to actor Lothaire Bluteau, who starred in Denys Arcand's film, and perhaps partly because Guilbeault studied theology in university (along with political science).
[ Looks like a duck --- talks li....]
[ Theology and Political Science, eh ?? Looks real good on a resume when applying for a real job ?]
But he also happens to have the charisma of a preacher when he speaks in public, something he did constantly as Greenpeace director, and the number of "followers" who flock to his speeches also plays into the whole "prophet" schtick.
[Yup. Just like Albert Gore. Leader of the Kult.]
An article in the news magazine L'Actualite last April, titled A Prophet named Guilbeault, featured a photo of Guilbeault that had been doctored to make him look like a tree, but with a halo of angelic light radiating off the top of his head.
[Now this is really getting rich !!]
The article began, "Where is Steven? Like God, he is everywhere; on news shows, at a United Nations conference, at an NDP meeting, on Parliament Hill, on Bazzo.tv, Christiane Charette, on Tout le monde en parle ... "
[ My word !! When does this man find time to work ??]
While Guilbeault has borne these religiously overtoned epithets with good humour, he recognizes there is an attempt in some camps to dismiss environmentalism as a cult movement.
[ He just provided all the proof himself :)]
"I'm not sure how I feel about it," says Guilbeault about those who would turn him into a green saint.
[ Try silly ]
I certainly don't consider myself a prophet and the last thing I want is for people to follow us blindly.
[ That is what Maurice Strong asks. Also Suzuki. It is the reason they will not debate with Patrick Moore or Tim Ball. No contest.]
If we are to meet the challenges of climate change, it will be because people are better educated and following what's happening on the planet.
[ Yup. Notice the use of only 'climate change' again ? Kyoto is a dog. People are better educated now, alright. No thanks to the media.]
Guilbeault, who grew up in La Tuque, has been working on the climate change issue since 1994. He is among a rare breed of people who have attended virtually every international conference on the topic, including the famous Conference of the Parties in Kyoto, Japan, which gave birth to the Kyoto Protocol on climate change.
[And now he is unemployed ?]
He noted the massive shift in public discourse on climate change since that moment. Industry, right-wing think tanks and the establishment in general for years dismissed climate change evidence as "junk science."
[Nope. Not 'climate change'. Kyoto and it's carbon-credit scheme is the junk part. Seems like there has been an intentional effort by some to distance themselves from Kyoto since the G8 meeting did just that.]
"Now we've got companies like Cascade and organizations like the C.D. Howe Institute criticizing the federal government for not going far enough to reduce emissions."
[Reduce emmisions, yes. Not to give $Billions to other countries.]
Though Guilbeault is known for his diplomacy with industry leaders and government, he has been arrested no less than four times while participating in Greenpeace actions, including his scaling the CN Tower in Toronto in 2001 to hang a banner to protest against the U.S. withdrawal from the Kyoto Protocol.
[Criminality also does not look good on a resume. Japan, Canada, India, China and others have now joined the US.]
But now, he has cut his famous black ponytail and is ready to suit up and join the private sector. That doesn't mean he's abandoned the climate change struggle or Greenpeace.
{Finaly saw the light, eh ? Gotta get a job, eh ? Change appearance, but deep down ... ?]
"Greenpeace is a great organization ... its role is to do advocacy and education, but not really implement solutions. ...
[Aww huh. Just as Patrick Moore said 25 years ago. GP was only interested in being a fanatical protest group. Is why PM left. Now has his own Greenspirit.com ]
I wouldn't mind dipping my toe in the private sector. I want to learn how things are done there and how we can engage the private sector" in the struggle against climate change, he said.
{Little late to be learning how things work, isn't it ? Things like the Earth- Sun connection ?]
For now Guilbeault, who has just returned to work after paternity leave following the birth of his third child, rules out politics.
"It's a big family decision and I've thought about it very hard and we're not ready for this now."
At 36, he has plenty of time to change his mind.
[ Hey Guilable, any thoughts on the millions of other followers, now in middle age, who also have to find real jobs ??]
The real reason Bob retired from The Price is Right? Senility/insanity.
"Bob Barker endorsed his friend Rosie O'Donnell as a possible successor on "The Price Is Right," although the newly retired host is not sure CBS wants a woman to take over the game show."
Enjoy your break Kate; you deserve every minute of it. And best of luck at the competitions.
meanwhile, back in the land of reality, NASA is discussing the truth about climate change/global warming.
"On the same day, NASA chief Michael Griffin commented in a US radio interview that "I am not sure that it is fair to say that (global warming) is a problem that we must wrestle with".
NASA is an agency that knows a thing or two about climate change. As Griffin added: "We study global climate change, that is in our authorisation, we think we do it rather well.
"I'm proud of that, but NASA is not an agency chartered to, quote, battle climate change."
Such a clear statement that science accomplishment should carry primacy over policy advice is both welcome and overdue.
Nonetheless, there is something worrying about one of Griffin's other statements, which said that "I have no doubt . . . that a trend of global warming exists".
Griffin seems to be referring to human-caused global warming, but irrespective of that his opinion is unsupported by the evidence.
The salient facts are these. First, the accepted global average temperature statistics used by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change show that no ground-based warming has occurred since 1998. Oddly, this eight-year-long temperature stasis has occurred despite an increase over the same period of 15 parts per million (or 4 per cent) in atmospheric CO2.
Second, lower atmosphere satellite-based temperature measurements, if corrected for non-greenhouse influences such as El Nino events and large volcanic eruptions, show little if any global warming since 1979, a period over which atmospheric CO2 has increased by 55 ppm (17 per cent).
Third, there are strong indications from solar studies that Earth's current temperature stasis will be followed by climatic cooling over the next few decades."

No-Fly List
Anybody notice the subtle dance going on with the Privacy Commissioner and the No-FLy List? Ms. Jennifer Stoddard, our Privacy Commissioner, made some comments a week or two ago about the appropriateness of the "No-Fly List", whereupon the Air India Inquiry said she should appear at the Inquiry and explain her position.
I know Ms. Stoddard from a previous job and she is a consummate political animal whose #1 priority has always been Jennifer Stoddard. So she doesn't relish having to explain herself to anybody, even if he is some ex-Supreme Court Justice. So she has become silent and invisible but now there are "Privacy Commission" comments which come from a "Lindsay Scotton" who is described as a researcher or consultant for the Commission. Gee, I wonder if Ms. Stoddard knows about this?
The Privacy Commission explains that Transport Canada has not proved to them, the Privacy Commission, that No-Fly Lists work. So if you thought that they only had jurisdiction over Privacy matters, think again. Other federal departments apparently have to justify their policy decisions to the Privacy Commission and the Privacy Commission decides whether the policies of other federal departments are effective, even in matters of security. I hope we are paying her enough for all that extra work she has taken on.
Here is 'proof positive' that the radical left gives great comfort to the enemy. Look who is a strong supporter of Cindy Sheehan (Jame Fonda would be proud):
Syrian Minister of Expatriate Affairs: Cindy Sheehan's Battle Must Continue; No Real Difference Between Democrats, Republicans in U.S.
To view this Special Dispatch in HTML visit: http://memri.org/bin/articles.cgi?Page=subjects&Area=iwmp&ID=SP162707
The announcement by leading anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan that she was leaving the Democratic Party and quitting the anti-war effort has evoked reactions from the Syrian press. Her decision was presented as proof that there is no real difference between the Democratic and Republican positions on the war in Iraq, and that the only way to effect a change in U.S. policy is to step up the Iraqi resistance and increase losses to the U.S. armed forces.
The following are excerpts from the articles:
Syrian Minister: Sheehan's Struggle is a "Battle of Truth Against Falsehood"
Syrian Minister of Expatriate Affairs Dr. Buthayna Sha'ban praised Sheehan's activism and expressed sorrow at her retirement from public life. In an op-ed in Al-Sharq Al-Awsat – also posted on www.syria-news.com, which is affiliated with the Syrian regime – she called on "all the honorable people in the world" to join forces and continue Sheehan's struggle:
"Cindy Sheehan has long been considered an example of how a [single] person [can] lead a campaign to change the outlook and position of a strong regime, like the American one, and she has long been a beacon for all those who defend liberty and justice in the world. The news of her retirement [from public life] caused [us] to lose hope, [but] when I read her clearly reasoned letter of resignation [from the anti-war movement], I understood the extent of her difficulty.
(....)
"Cindy Sheehan's letter makes it clear that she received all the backup and support [she needed] when she was regarded as a Democrat fighting against the Republican Party's outlook on the war. But when she left the Democratic Party, and defined the war in Iraq not as a matter of the political left vs. the political right, but as a matter of right vs. wrong – then her real problems began, for in a democratic regime, you are permitted to voice opposition [to the regime], but you are not allowed to expose the true nature of the regime and what it really stands for.
"The path blazed by Cindy Sheehan is a very important one, because it was meant to bring justice, respect for the human spirit, and awareness that what is happening in Iraq is a crime against humanity. [Sheehan's activism] could have a real impact not only on American's policy in Iraq, but on its policy in the Middle East [at large] and perhaps even in the [whole] world.

Looks like Steve Janke is under attack by David Herle. Herle in typical Liberal fashion is trying to silence Janke by filing lawsuits.
"For months, a prominent member of Paul Martin's inner circle -- a person whose company, the news media tell us, made millions working for Martin's Department of Finance -- has been suing me for writing about him. I believe the commentary was fair and accurate, but despite this, I issued apologies and retractions on two separate occassions, each time as per his instructions. Each time he has responded by continuing legal action anyway. The Martin man has been unafraid to use his economic clout to shut me up and bleed me dry.
Right now, I lack the resources to fight back. I believe I have to, because it's not right to be punished economically for telling the truth.
Can you help? Any donation, of any size, would be a big help. Most of all, it would tell the Martin man something important -- namely, that the law shouldn't be used to punish bloggers for simply providing accurate criticism of powerful people.
Please help!"

Tactics of the Taliban that Taliban Jack Layton and his lefty cronies want to negotiate with:
"Belcher blamed al Qaeda for the loss of innocent lives, saying [the Taliban] did not let the children leave the targeted compound, which was located about 180 kilometres south of Kabul."
"The coalition said other children who survived the air strike alleged the victims were held inside the building and beaten and pushed away if they tried to leave."

What really happened in the Middle East
What really happened in the Middle East Vasko Kohlmayer The Terrorism Awareness Project, an offshoot of the David Horowitz Freedom Center, has put out an excellent overview of the history of the Israeli Palestinian conflict called What Really Happened in the Middle East.
A straightforward presentation of facts, this ten-minute multimedia production cuts through all the noise, passions and dissembling that have made this subject so difficult to understand and should be seen by all those interested in this problem. Like almost everything that bears Horowitz's imprimatur, this eye-opening presentation is highly instructive and superbly executed. ...-

Rob says: "Looks like Steve Janke is under attack by David Herle."
Janke's comments on the subject of his lawsuit appear to be at odds with what has been reported elsewhere in the non-mainstream media.
Herle asked Janke to post a retraction; Steve did, except it was buried in a months old post that never saw the front page of his blog. Herle described the non-retraction as "mocking" and, having seen it myself, I'd have to agree with Herle.
If Janke lacks the resources to fight this himself as he claims, how the heck did he manage to get Keith Cameron of Lang Michener to defend him up to this point? I suppose it's a coincidence that Lang Michener is a Tory law firm featuring CPC honcho John Reynolds and Harper's personal lawyer Michael Rankin, but maybe Janke can confirm or deny this.
Janke is an idiot and a loose cannon and it was only a matter of time before he got popped. Herle gave Janke a chance to retract and Janke, by burying the retraction in a months old post, effectively refused. I am no fan of Canada's libel laws but Janke had every opportunity to avoid this situation; my sympathy for him is limited.
TO Star today (Mon) is running a good series on "certified" immigration consultants - actually far to many are not and are just another reason the Immigration/Refugee files are in such a mess.
Those who choose to use these people pretty much know exactly what they are doing - trying to get in the back door and are willing to put big money down.
When things go wrong, then of course they cry "victim" and expect us to first of all land them and secondly put them on the doll for who knows how long. Their applications should at least be put at the bottom if not deleted period and they should be sent packing. This back-door claiming of refugee status has to stop and for those outed as being a part of the consulting chain should also be dealt with severely.
Why should any landed immigrant be in a position to act as an immigration consultant anyway - certified or not certified. This in itself should
be grounds for being refused citizenship down the road and their landed status nullified.

A truly first rate, non hysterical, 32 page summary of the Arab-Israel history.
Comment: The Arabs have been absolutely brilliant in their propaganda (they learned a lot from the Nazis, going right back to the grand mufti Haj Amin al-Husseini whom Arafat greatly admired). This video and longer print piece helps to counter decades of world class misinformation and propaganda -- propaganda so powerful that even very fine minds like ET's have been bamboozled.

For Canadians who persue this Blogsite, our Conservative Canadian government had some interesting things to say along similar lines. [For U.S. contractors too.]
Against a powerful job protection lobby, here is some indication of progress by Harper and Minister of Transport, L. Cannon.
=====================
Thank you for your correspondence to the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, regarding the idling of trucks at rest stops. The Minister has asked me to reply on his behalf.
Minister Cannon appreciates being made aware of your concerns and has noted your comments.
The federal government is committed to building and maintaining a safe and secure, efficient and environmentally responsible transportation system in Canada, with the support of the other levels of government and all Canadians.
The ecoTRANSPORT Strategy is part of the Government of Canada's agenda to protect our environment and the health of Canadians and to increase Canada's economic prosperity.
Initiatives announced to date include the ecoFREIGHT Program, which features steps to reduce the environmental and health effects of freight transportation through technology. These steps include the following:
* addressing regulatory barriers to reducing fuel use and emissions by trucks;
* establishing a Freight Technology Demonstration Fund;
* providing cost-shared funding for the purchase and installation of proven technologies;
* building industry partnerships; and
* supporting up to four pilot projects to demonstrate the installation and use of shore-based power for marine vessels in Canadian ports.
For more information on ecoFREIGHT initiatives, or for details about plug-ins and electrification, I would invite you to visit the following Transport Canada website:
www.tc.gc.ca/programs/environment/atvpgm/tec01a.htm#elec
Natural Resources Canada is responsible for the ecoENERGY for Fleets Program, which was announced in February 2007. I have therefore taken the liberty of forwarding a copy of your e-mail and report to the office of the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of Natural Resources, for consideration.
I trust that the foregoing has addressed your concerns. Again, thank you for writing.
Yours truly,
Richard Stryde
Senior Special Assistant
