A recent email from Cathy Buckle from the socialist workers' paradise of Zimbabwe had this amazing quote from a minister in Comrade Bob's government:
"It took a message from outside of
Zimbabwe to tell me what our Minister of Lands said this week and for millions
of cold, tired and hungry Zimbabweans, they are sickening words. Lands Minister
Didymus Mutasa said: "The position is that food shortages or no food shortages,
we are going ahead to remove the remaining whites. We would all rather die of
hunger but knowing full well that the land is in the hands of black people.""
Yeah, right. Zimbabwe is better off having the land in the hands of millions of dead people rather than see one acre of it in the hands of a person of European descent. I guess the new owners just can till it from the grave, huh?
It's thinking like this that illustrates why Africa has such a horrific time achieving real economic progress.

After hearing about Francis Dupuis-Deri's open letter to his sister serving in the CF appealing to her and her fellow soldiers not to go to Afghanistan, I was moved to comment (original letter in French here: http://www.vigile.net/article7225.html).
Mr. Dupuis-Deri accuses the members of the CF of being political pawns for the hawks in Ottawa and Washington; his solution: have the members of the CF become political pawns for the doves in Quebec. The Canadian Forces should not be the target of political messages - from anyone. Indeed, there are some laws on this.
In particular, Mr. Dupuis-Deri implicitly calls on his sister to disobey a lawful order, which is specifically outlawed under Section 62 of the Criminal Code of Canada.
Some recent news features have questioned the suitability of our national anthem (O Canada). Actually, I think the anthem is fine. However, a couple of times I have picked up on suggestions for a re-design of our flag. The suggestions come from "letters to the editor" in a couple of publications. The design suggested has a central red maple leaf . . . but surrounded by small maple leaf's representing the provinces and territories. (I think they are also red, but I am not sure). I think it is a brilliant design. I wish I had a link to provide a picture of this. What I especially like is the acknowledgment of the fact that Canada is made up of it's distinct provinces. The current flag design does not communicate this.
**The courts must be called to our aid, debts must be collected, bonds and mortgages forclosed as rapidly as possible.
When through the process of the law, the common people have lost their homes, they will be more tractable and easily governed through the influence of the strong arm of the government applied to a central power of imperial wealth under the control of the leading financiers. People without homes will not quarrel with their leaders.
History repeats itself in regular cycles. This truth is well known among our principal men who are engaged in forming an imperialism of the world. While they are doing this, the people must be kept in a state of political antagonism.
The question of tariff reform must be urged through the organization known as the Democratic Party, and the question of protection with the reciprocity must be forced to view through the Republican Party.
By thus dividing voters, we can get them to expand their energies in fighting over questions of no importance to us, except as teachers to the common herd. Thus, by discrete action, we can secure all that has been so generously planned and successfully accomplished.** [Circa 1822 or thereabouts ]

If things seem like they’re getting worse in the Middle East, it’s because they are. The divisive cut and run policies of the Democrats, and the general fecklessness of Western societies in the face of radical Islamic extortion and bullying, have emboldened the dictators of the Islamic Axis to a very dangerous point. Joshua Muravchik has a compelling piece in OpinionJournal today about this gathering storm: Winds of War.
A large portion of modern wars erupted because aggressive tyrannies believed that their democratic opponents were soft and weak. Often democracies have fed such beliefs by their own flaccid behavior. Hitler’s contempt for America, stoked by the policy of appeasement, is a familiar story. But there are many others. North Korea invaded South Korea after Secretary of State Dean Acheson declared that Korea lay beyond our “defense perimeter.” Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait after our ambassador assured him that America does not intervene in quarrels among Arabs. Imperial Germany launched World War I, encouraged by Great Britain’s open reluctance to get involved. Nasser brought on the 1967 Six Day War, thinking that he could extort some concessions from Israel by rattling his sword.
Democracies, it is now well established, do not go to war with each other. But they often get into wars with non-democracies. Overwhelmingly the non-democracy starts the war; nonetheless, in the vast majority of cases, it is the democratic side that wins. In other words, dictators consistently underestimate the strength of democracies, and democracies provoke war through their love of peace, which the dictators mistake for weakness.

More sanitized terms for Islamic terrorists from AP.
They kidnap a BBC journalist, strap him with explosives and create a video of his appeals. AP calls these terrorists "...a shadowy group..."
The word terrorist does not appear ONCE in the entire article.
