Editor Admits: We Slanted the News [Israeli Media Admits Anti-War Agenda]
(IsraelNN.com) A former Israel Broadcasting Authority news editor admits: "We slanted the news towards a withdrawal from Lebanon - because we had sons there."
Speaking at the Haifa Radio Conference on Monday, several former and current news broadcasters on Voice of Israel and Army Radio discussed the tremendous influence they nearly all agreed they had on Israel's national agenda.
Dr. Chanan Naveh, who edited the Israel Broadcasting Authority radio's news desk in late 1990's and early 2000's, was particularly bombastic about his pervasive reach: "The morning audience, stuck in traffic jams or at work, is simply captive - they're ours." He also mentioned, with no regrets, two examples in which he and his colleagues made a concerted effort to change public opinion:
"Three broadcasters - Carmela Menashe, Shelly Yechimovich [now a Labor party Knesset Member - ed.], and I - pushed in every way possible the withdrawal from Lebanon towards 2000. In our newsroom, three of the editors had sons in Lebanon, and we took it upon ourselves as a mission - possibly not stated - to get the IDF out of Lebanon... I have no doubt that we promoted an agenda of withdrawal that was a matter of public dispute." ...- http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1845213/posts

PULLMAN, Wash. — It is a gleaming prize for wheat farmers, and environmentally correct, to boot: a perennial food plant that requires plowing only once every three to five years and prevents dust storms, stems soil erosion and even absorbs carbon to help mitigate climate change.
The latest search for perennial wheat, which comes up each year, began a decade ago here at Washington State University, said Dr. Stephen Jones, a geneticist, with a big question: What are the genetics that govern a plant’s annual nature?
“That life-and-death question was fairly simple to answer,” Dr. Jones said recently, standing in a thicket of greenhouse-raised experimental wheat plants that towered over him. “It’s only a single gene that convinces a plant not to die.” Once that gene is bypassed through breeding, “the question is, Does it have what it takes to live?”
That answer is considerably more difficult. A successful perennial wheat not only has to live, but it also has to do it in the right ways: it has to enter a dormant cycle in the fall and then return to life in the spring; it has to look like wheat, have a satisfactory yield and thresh cleanly.
Dr. Jones and his graduate students overrode the “death” gene in the late 1990s — through old-fashioned breeding techniques that crossed wheat with wild grass, not genetic modification — but it takes years, allowing plants to breed at their natural pace to make sure the wheat ends up with the right characteristics..."
As more Internet users grow cautious about Google's seemingly unquenchable desire for the private, personal data of its users, one entrepreneur is using the search engine giant's own algorithms to offer consumers a choice.
It's called Scroogle – located at Scroogle.org – and offers searchers all the power of Google but none of the privacy concerns.
One of Google's fiercest critics is Daniel Brandt. He runs Google Watch, which, among other things, tracks the growing number of privacy concerns about the company and its practices.
His latest endeavor, however, actually offers Internet users the opportunity to use Google's powerful search tools without personal data being collected by the company.
Scroogle filters searches through Brandt's servers before hitting Google. It effectively hides the address of the searcher. ...-

A very long but worthwhile read about the role of grief and the dead in politics. And the dangers of ignoring the dead.
An excerpt:
Still, even the most ardent modernist might feel some misgivings about a rejection of the dead as complete as San Francisco’s. And such misgivings reflect, however dimly, a deep political insight—for a city without cemeteries has failed at one of the first reasons for having cities at all. Somewhere in those banished graveyards was a metaphysical ground for politics, and buried in them was a truth that too much of modern political theory seems to have forgotten: The living give us crowds. The dead give us communities.
(1) The losses human beings suffer are the deepest reason for culture,
(2) The fundamental pattern for any community is a congregation at a funeral,
(3) A healthy society requires a lively sense of the reality and continuing presence of the dead.
A Nova Scotia MP shows some backbone and votes against Harper's promise-breaking budget because it goes against signed agreements made with his province on equalization.
The Ottawa Citizen puts it this way:
"Mr. Casey, 62, objected to the budget on grounds that it breaks Mr. Harper's 2006 election campaign promise to honour the terms of the 2005 Atlantic Accord. The accord excluded 100 per cent of offshore resource revenues in Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador from the equalization formula used to redistribute wealth among the provinces.
Meanwhile, people in Saskatchewan, where both the Governing NDP and the Opposition Sask Party have criticized Harper for breaking his campaign equalization commitment to the province, are wondering at the silence of the twelve boneless wonders that make up the Sask Federal Conservative caucus.
If Nova Scotia's Casey can show enough spine to stand up for his own province, why can't Saskatchewan's Conservative MPs do the same?
Stephane, Leader of Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition, would allow Winnie into the county? Where then do we draw the line? Do we say come on in to all felons? Murderers, kidnappers, rapists, come on in?
It's beginning to look like Dion is merely brainlessly opposing. If the Harper government allowed her in, he'd be yowling they shouldn't.
It's beginning to look like he's operating with half a brain, the other half is called Iggy and together they comprise the dog and pony show they play out in QP.

Big Bro/Sis/Da/Mom in Merrie Olde England: cams in every room of your walk-up, flat, house; Palaces, too? Statist control: thru your liver.
What is it? Why are these people allowing this to happen? The people have been lobotomized; the zombie nation. Maybe it is the fluoride in the water/toothpaste from China.
Next up: Mandatory Cork Sniffing/Inspectors.

Crackdown on middle class wine drinkers
Times Online (UK)
Middle-class wine drinkers will be the focus of government plans to make drunkenness as socially unacceptable as smoking, The Times has learnt.
[...]
“We want to target older drinkers, those that are maybe drinking one or two bottles of wine at home each evening,” a Whitehall source said. “They do not realise the damage they are doing to their health and that they risk developing liver disease. We are not talking here about the traditional wino.”...-

The Mourner's Kaddish
Magnified and sanctified be God's great name in the world which He has created according to His will. May He establish His kingdom soon, in our lifetime. Let us say: Amen.
May His great name be praised to all eternity.
Hallowed and honored, extolled and exalted, adored and acclaimed be the name of the Holy One, though He is above all the praises, hymns, and songs of adoration which men can utter. Let us say: Amen.
May God grant abundant peace and life to us and to all Israel. Let us say: Amen.
May He who ordains harmony in the universe grant peace to us and to all Israel. Let us say: Amen.

"A Perennial Search for Perfect Wheat

Fed up with Google? Try Scroogle.org
Powerful search tool without privacy violations

Plants like this one are far more numerous than one may think. Brazil is 80% mobile on bio-fuels, 20% on gasoline.
They use higher efficiency sugar cane and far less corn. = TG
