A wannabee gangbanger and his tanto sidekicke attack a teacher (a 61 year old woman,) film it and get busted for it.
They show up in court and the parents freak out because bail is set high.
You know how these kids turned out the way they did. What kind of incompetent, morally repugnant cretin sides with criminality over the law?
If I did what these creeps did I'd be lucky if my parents ever talked to me again. No doubt if I still had a home I'd never see the outside of it again. Moreover, if my parents found out I did something like this they'd ask the judge to give me extra punishment to teach me a lesson.
Too many parents now days (and it happens here, too,) side with little Johnny as they don't believe their little angel is capable of bad things. This lack of discipline allows their violent cretin offspring to victimize a 61 year old woman and think highly of themselves because of it.
What kind of lowlife thinks that sucker-punching a 61 year-old woman is a cool act to be proud of? Talk about a little coward. I think my parents would beat me extra out of the shame of it.

Billions and billions of dollars pumped into welfare, healthcare, "job training", yata yata, seem to have done nothing.
Why? The role of the collapse of the family and the nanny state are discussed, superficially. Not nearly in enough detail. No mention of social issues relating to immigration, but these must also play a factor.
England is becoming the poster child for the failure of the welfare state, for the failure of so called "liberal" thinking. Can Canada learn a lesson before it's too late? Or maybe we can catch us some good old-style English refugees trying to escape the rathole that their country is becoming, and wishing to immigrate here.

China may ban Catholics from 2008 Olympics
China's Ministry of Public Security has issued a directive listing 43 categories of 'unwanteds' who are to be investigated and may be barred from the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the Falun Dafa Information Centre reports.
The banned groups will include members of religious groups not sanctioned by the state, including the underground Catholic and other Christian churches; "key individuals in ideological fields," "counter-revolutionary" figures, the Dalai Lama and all affiliates, "individuals who instigate discontentment toward the Chinese Communist Party through the Internet," and certain types of "handicapped" persons.
Members of the indigenous religious group Falun Gong would be barred, as would "family members of deceased persons" killed in "riots" -- a euphemism for events such as the Tiananmen Massacre -- and Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang province, which the regime brands "national separatists."
Foreign athletes, members of the media, Olympic staff members, referees, sponsors, dignitaries, and the International Olympic Committee itself, will all be investigated, to determine whether they fall into any of the 43 categories. ...- http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1843160/posts

US-Sunni Alliance In Iraq Taking Shape
Several indications point to US progress at co-opting Iraq's Sunni minority, which has been the backbone of the insurgency in that country.
Tired of the random violence wrought by al Qaeda terrorists, some Sunni political leaders and communities appear to be allying themselves with the US in an effort to rid themselves of al Qaeda. If those trends are confirmed, they could amount to a key watershed for the US mission. Meanwhile, US military leaders have sought to arrange separate ceasefires with different Sunni groups.
The Washington Times reports, "A battle raged yesterday in western Baghdad after residents rose up against al Qaeda and called for US military help to end random gunfire that forced people to huddle indoors and threats that kept students from final exams, a member of the district council said."
The AP says the Amariyah fight "reflects a trend that U.S. and Iraqi officials have been trumpeting recently to the west in Anbar province." Many Sunni tribes "in the province have banded together to fight al-Qaida, claiming the terrorist group is more dangerous than American forces."
The Washington Post notes the mayor of the Amiriyah neighborhood, Mohammed Abdul Khaliq, "said in a telephone interview that residents were rising up to try to expel al-Qaeda in Iraq, which has alienated other Sunnis with its indiscriminate violence and attacks on members of its own sect."...- http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1843141/posts

Lori - I lived in Milan and Turin for about 3 years. Every time an English team was playing the locals, you knew to avoid the city centre. There's nothing more terrifying than a group of Englishmen coming down the street in a European city at night. Barbarians. Worse even than the Friday-night mosque crowd.
Watching the pundits discuss our historic meeting with Iran, you would have mostly heard despair at the notion that we have no leverage in these talks, and so therefor why would Iran give on anything? Why would they stop waging war against us in iraq if they have nothing to fear? To all the experts in the media, the whole thing seemed like some grand puzzlement. Was it just an attempt to appease the administration’s domestic critics who have been chiding it for not engaging in diplomacy ( a vaguery if there ever was one ) with the world’s top terrorist? No one you heard from could really quite grasp what was going on.
For some reason, no one told you that just 5 days before Monday’s talks, an entire floating army, with nearly 20,000 men, comprising the world’s largest naval strike force, led by the USS Nimitz and the USS Stennis, and also comprising the largest U.S. Naval armada in the Persian Gulf since 2003, came floating up unnanounced through the Straight of Hormuz, and rested right on Iran’s back doorstep, guns pointed at them. The demonstration of leverage was clear. And it also came on the exact date of the expiration of the 60 day grace period the U.N. had granted Iran.
And it came just a few weeks after Vice President Dick Cheney had swept through the region and delivered a very clear and pointed message to the Saudi King Abdullah and others: George Bush has unequivocally decided to attack Iran’s nuclear, military and economic infrastructure if they do not abandon their drive for military nuclear capability. Plain and simple. Iran heard the message as well, and although a lack of leverage may seem clear to America’s retired military tv talking heads, it is not so clear to the government in Tehran.
The message to both Iran and Syria is that if the talks in Baghdad fail, the military option is ready to go.

From the Gateway Pundit, a howler of a story about how an "inter-faith dialogue" event set up by crybaby peacenik "Christians" to showcase an Iranian regime spokesman at the U. of Waterloo went tragically wrong, with Afghani- and Iranian-Canadians chanting "Down with the Islamic Republic!" There is no "actual copy"; the entire "Kelowna Accord" was a charade, smoke-and-mirrors, a publicity photo-op which emanated from the reptilian brains of ex-Liberal PM AdScam PM Martin, Jr., Big Chief Fontaine, et al. It was a "commitment" where $5.1 billion was "booked". Bookies?

The National Chief also addressed comments by the Conservative government that there is no “Kelowna Accord” because there is no signed document and that funds were not set aside to address the commitments of the accord.
“The agreements in Kelowna were publicly and transparently endorsed by all Provincial and territorial leaders, the Prime Minister and all Aboriginal leaders during the public, closing comments at the First Ministers Meeting,” said the National Chief. “There was not a single dissenting voice. As well, the previous Finance Minister issued a clear statement that the $5.1 Billion was ‘booked’ within the budgetary processes of the Government of Canada. What could be more transparent and accountable than that kind of public endorsement and funding commitment? Nothing but anger arises in me with every detail and additional news report I hear or read which attempts to explain why and how the C.W. Jefferys shooting occurred. The issue is much deeper and more complex than lax gun laws and the lack of video cameras in hallways.
As a former teacher at C.W. Jefferys and someone born and raised in the Jane and Finch area, I understand first-hand how this happened and I firmly believe more could have been done to try to prevent such an incident. Personally, I was enraged by the news but by no means was I shocked.

Firecrackers were set off, small fires lit and security alarms were falsely activated so often these instances began to be ignored or responded to with absolutely no urgency.
One day, I had an altercation with an intruder who threatened to slap me because I asked him to remove his hat; I was enforcing a board-wide policy. Appalled that the administration did nothing, I filed a police report on my own in hopes of bringing more attention to issues of school safety but it was to no avail.
On a daily basis, I would report various intruders to the office and hall monitors which resulted in no effective action being taken. In one instance, one hall monitor responded to my report by continuing a menial task of cleaning out an office while the other hall monitor was more likely to be found hiding in obscure niches in the school rather than patrolling the halls.
After seeing the individual who threatened to slap me three more times in the hallway outside my classroom, I once again called the police on my own accord and had him charged with trespassing.
I felt sick to my stomach when one reporter said the murderer "somehow got a gun into the school," knowing full well he or she needed just to walk through the front doors at any time during the school day and would likely not be approached or questioned by anyone.

How Jimmy Carter Helped Trash Venezuela's Free Press
As American Thinker noted here yesterday, Jimmy Carter came out with some crocodile tears for the ongoing turmoil in Venezuela's democracy over the issue of free speech. Does anyone realize the extent to which Jimmy Carter created the conditions that led to today's turmoil in Venezuela?
Not only did Carter validate a fraudulent recall referendum in 2004, which sealed Hugo Chavez's grip on political power based on a political capital and mandate he did not have, Carter also was instrumental in weakening the free press. It's not very well known, but Carter mediated a secretive meeting between Chavez and Gustavo Cisneros, another TV station owner who owned Venevision, which at the time was in Chavez's gunsights for a shutdown. Carter brought the two men together, hugging and smiling both, and then negotiated a solution that resulted in Venevision dropping all criticism of Hugo Chavez in exchange for Chavez allowing the station to live. For awhile at least.
In reality, Carter's move was the appeasement of a crocodile, in the hardly certain hope it would eat that station last. Shortly after that meeting, another big station, Televen, dropped its criticism of Chavez, creating a chain reaction. That left only RCTV, (and its tiny helpless ally, Globovision) standing alone, to weather the dictatorship. The huge RCTV, a popular station with a 42% market was pressured to fall into line as its brother stations had already done. It had political capital based on its huge popularity with Venezuelans. But based on principle, it refused and vowed to stay independent. The result was, it was vulnerable, because Carter had facilitated the cave-ins of the other stations in 2004.
One more legacy of the Carter presidency, and why Jimmy Carter is always the dictator's friend. Investor's Business Daily has an editorial about Carter's role in destroying Venezuela's free press here....- http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1843336/posts

During the Liberation of Iraq a freedom force from Kurdistan known as the Peshmerga helped to secure the northern front. This band of freedom fighters included men and women, many who had lost their husbands or family members during Saddam's reign of terror and felt compelled to fight against him. Like the men, they were praying for the day of liberation for their people:
If revenge is a dish best served cold, then the fresh-faced recruits of the Peshmerga Force for Women cannot wait for the Kurdish winter to set in. That's when they believe a US attack on Iraq will happen, allowing them to put into practice all they've learned at the training camp for peshmerga - meaning those who face death - outside the Kurdish city of Sulaymaniyah in the self-rule area of northern Iraq.
At the academy, run by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, 20 young women are being schooled in the arts of attack, ambush and sabotage, and learning to use Soviet-era weapons. (This was before Operation Iraqi Freedom. Today they are still training women to fight in northern Iraq.) Soon they hope to apply these arts of war against the regime held responsible for the murders and disappearances of their loved ones. [...]
A break in the action.
Peshmerga fighters describe how they would greet George Bush if they ever ran into him:
The officers of a Kurdish guerrilla unit drank tea and laid out in vivid detail what they would do to President Bush if he fell into their hands. “I would kiss him one thousand times,” the company commander, Sheikh Fattah, said. “I would carry him on my shoulders and shout songs to him,” another officer, Farouk Khaled, added. “I would sacrifice one thousand sheep and two thousand chickens for him,” a third officer, Mam Siamand, said.

U.S. Navy strikes reported on Qaeda suspect in Somalia
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. military launched a strike against a suspected al Qaeda target in northern Somalia on Friday, CNN reported.
A U.S. Navy destroyer targeted the suspect from off the coast of the African nation, the cable news network said, citing unidentified sources.
There was no information about the results of the attack, it said.
The target was a suspect in the 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, CNN said.
The destroyer's guns appeared to be targeting a single person, perhaps moving in a convoy, according to the report.
The United States launched air strikes in Somalia in January targeting three top al Qaeda suspects but killing their allies instead, U.S. officials have said.
The city of Hit (pronounced “heat”) is a spot of green in the desert on the western bank of the Euphrates. The temperature is steadily rising here as the weeks melt into the mirage of summer; the haze shimmering at about 115°F now. The air was blowing hot and dry through the city Tuesday morning 29 May, when I accompanied LTC Doug Crissman for another day of meetings with local leaders in Hit and surrounding towns in Anbar Province. Crissman and the soldiers of Task Force 2-7 Infantry under his command have been welcomed in the area of Hit for about the last one hundred days. Prior to February, Hit was one of the hottest little battlegrounds of the war, with almost daily gun battles crackling through the air, mortars exploding on the bases, and bombs cratering the roads.
But none of that noise punctuated a visit last Saturday, when LTC Crissman and I walked through the downtown portion of the city. Our several-mile stroll through the market—a veritable shopping mall for the area—was filled with men, women, and children of all ages, including one rotund boy furiously slurping an ice cream before it could drip away. A secret mission called Operation Police Call was planned. Hamid was to be arrested. Senior Coalition and Iraqi leadership including Prime Minister Maliki were to be apprised of the arrest if it was ordered. Yet events would so conspire on Tuesday that LTC Crissman would initiate the capture himself.
On the morning of 29 May, we began another long day of visiting police stations and other facilities. Every meeting began with the official agenda: there are 576 police hiring slots to fill, and LTC Crissman had been making great effort to distribute the hiring slots over various tribes and geographical boundaries so that everyone became stakeholders in the resulting security program. [...]
Hamid seemed confused at first, as if his friend Crissman were just admiring Hamid’s Glock pistol. Hamid just kept smiling as Crissman politely said that Hamid was to be detained.
LTC Crissman, acting solely on his own and with no direct orders from above, saw that a bloodbath was about to be unleashed, and pulled a plan out of the sky. Yes, there had been a plan already afoot, but Crissman “fragged” it early, managing to arrest an entire police station without a shot being fired, and using me as a photo-op to distract a proud, some might say vain, general just long enough to disarm him. ...-
Months ago, I suggested that Iranian nuclear materials concentrator banks should be precision bunker bombed.
I just listend to the solid logic put forward with CBC*s Carol Off of an author who says Bush will do exactly that between now and November.
This move will be unilateral and I suggest it should NOT be aimed at the Iranian people or their valued oil infrastucture but only at the mad mullah*s nuclear toys.
Guess my logic was not so far off after all.
I suspect too that most Iranians wish they could be free of the Mullah*s opression as it is applied through their * religious police *.

No civilized state can tolerate or absorb the social costs of wild emotional fathers who decide to express their resentment of children*s choices of friends by using a heavy motor vehicle to mow down and destroy young Canadian lives.
The costs of this one enactment of Shiia or Muslim beliefs results in the devastation of three families, the social costs related to those destroyed families and the imprisionment and court costs of the enraged child-killer father.
The following week in New York, Mayor Ebrard joined peers from the 40 largest cities in the world to discuss their efforts to reduce pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg used that occasion to announce his city's plans to convert the entire 13,000 vehicle fleet of yellow cabs to hybrid vehicles over the next five years.
Brian Wynne

ElectricDrive.org
==================
One of the concerns people have about hybrid vehicles is the durability of the complex drivetrains. Ford is helping to put some of that concern to rest. Less than two years ago a fleet of eighteen Escape Hybrids joined the ranks of New York City taxis. In that short span of time each one of them has now completed over 175,000 miles of service and saved an estimated $250,000 in fuel costs.
Let*s see;
18 Escape Hybrid cabs, 20 months save $250.000 in gas costs
So,
13,000 Hybrid cabs, 20 months saves $180555555 in gas cash.
That is the gas saving for only one taxi firm. You can imagine the drop in gas demand that is now under way even today.
One suspects the price of gas is not really free floating. = TG
Warwick, Lori, and Andrew: the public school systems in this country are run like gulags for the teachers, whose rights are constantly trumped by the lowest common denominator kids and their dead-beat parents. No matter how egregious their actions--often repeat ones--administration treats irresponsible, loutish students and their often thuggish parents like valuable clients. Teachers' rights? What are those? You notice that the C.W. Jeffrerys teacher had to call the police herself for protection from violent intruders. (It seems that she's retired: good thing. If not, the board would find ways--there are many, if the institution's corrupt--to punish her.)
I teach a class of behaviour students. I'm very tough with them, which is just what they need. (They've made fine gains while in my class.) However, support from administration is altogether lacking. I want tough measures: the office plays nice--with the student. In fact, by administration's convoluted--left-wing polluted--logic, it seems that BECAUSE my kids are behaviour problems, they need to be spared any serious disciplinary measures. I kid you not. Altogether bogus "extenuating circumstances" are trotted out and are used to excuse the miscreant from any serious consequences. This has happened over and over. (I generally avoid involving the office. Thanks, ladies.)
I was recently chastised and insulted by administration for having the audacity to use "punitive" measures: the child had to write a behaviour plan for herself while missing the class activity she'd missed the day before and had a calculated, nasty, over the top meltdown about with a supply teacher. Me bad. Kid couldn't help it. Utter hogwash!
So, this is how our worst kids are being dealt with. Most Behaviour Codes, with which schools are awash, are useless because the powers that be refuse to enforce them. As I've said before, the Charter has everything to do with this. Boards are terrified of litigation and any disciplinary measure they think might rile a parent is frowned upon. E.g., That would be just about every effective disciplinary measure teachers ever had.
Film maker Brooke Goldstein traveled to the West Bank and filmed more than five hours of interviews with terrorists and their brainwashed children. She went into it believing the situation had been exaggerated—but found it was worse than she could have imagined: Recruited To Die.
As the group walked through the town, they spoke to Palestinian Arab children in schools and on the street. “Our fixer was encouraging us to speak with the children. I think I’d always, deep down, had a hard time thinking the problem was really that bad. I thought maybe it was a lunatic fringe,” she said.
In fact, the fanaticism was worse than she ever imagined. “The most shocking thing was reconciling the normal appearance of these kids and what was coming out of their mouths,” she said. “I was holding these beautiful children in my lap, and my translator was translating words of hate.”
The story was always the same. “No child ever said, ‘I don’t want to be a martyr.’ They talked about fame, paradise, virgins, and Ferris wheels [after death]. They were happy to tell me they hated Jews,” she said. ...- http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/

Foreign athletes, members of the media, Olympic staff members, referees, sponsors, dignitaries, and the International Olympic Committee itself, will all be investigated, to determine whether they fall into any of the 43 categories. ...-

The Washington Post notes the mayor of the Amiriyah neighborhood, Mohammed Abdul Khaliq, "said in a telephone interview that residents were rising up to try to expel al-Qaeda in Iraq, which has alienated other Sunnis with its indiscriminate violence and attacks on members of its own sect."...-

What No One Is Telling You About Our Talks With Iran

Personally, I was enraged by the news but by no means was I shocked.
...

Investor's Business Daily has an editorial about Carter's role in destroying Venezuela's free press here....-

The Kurdish Peshmerga Fighter
Kurdish peshmerga women training for combat.
Kurdish Northern Iraq still continues to train women for their military. ...-

Those suspects also were wanted for the embassy bombings, which killed 240 people. ...-

The Final Option
Hit, Anbar Province, Iraq
Yes, there had been a plan already afoot, but Crissman “fragged” it early, managing to arrest an entire police station without a shot being fired, and using me as a photo-op to distract a proud, some might say vain, general just long enough to disarm him. ...-

==================
Let*s see;
18 Escape Hybrid cabs, 20 months save $250.000 in gas costs
So,
13,000 Hybrid cabs, 20 months saves $180555555 in gas cash.

Get ready for the deluge.

New Film: The Making of a Martyr
They were happy to tell me they hated Jews,” she said. ...-
