Once Upon A Life

The Jewish state fought a Six Day War;

The source for all of the following is a 1967 issue of Life Magazine entitled “Israel’s Swift Victory.” It’s a 100 page special edition, so I won’t attempt to retype all of it here. Instead, I’ve cherry-picked those articles that resonate most strongly insofar as they contrast with today’s view of Israel and her role in the Middle East. Unlike today’s media, both at home and abroad, the Life editors admired Israel tremendously for standing up to the overwhelming odds the Arab nations presented, and triumphing. The very first story identifies Israel as a beleaguered haven for refugees, surrounded by an ocean of hostile Arab nations.

[...]

After admiringly describing the Israelis’ offensive strike against the Arab air-forces, which gave Israel the decisive advantage in the War, Life addresses Israel’s first incursion into Gaza. I’m sure you’ll appreciate how the Gaza area is depicted:

"Minutes after the first air strike, a full division of Israeli armor and mechanized infantry . . . was slashing into the Egyptian-held Gaza Strip. A tiny wasteland, the strip had been given up by Israel in the 1956 settlement and was now a festering splinter — the barren harbor for 315,000 refugees bent on returning to their Palestinian homes and the base for Arab saboteurs."

[...]

With the elan and precision of a practiced drill team, Israel’s largely civilian army — 71,000 regulars and 205,000 reservists — began its swift mobilization to face, if necessary, 14 Arab nations and their 110 million people. As Premier Levi Eshkol was to put it, “The Jewish people has had to fight unceasingly to keep itself alive…. We acted from an instinct to save the soul of a people.

Again, can you imagine a modern publication pointing out the vast disparity in landmass and population between Israel and the Arabs, or even acknowledging in the opening paragraph of any article that Israel has a right to exist?

No, I can't actually. I wonder why that is?

Kate. Israel has no right to exist, according to modern PC'ers. My question is...if Israel actually did happen to stop existing...who or what would the jhiaddists blame their bombings on???

*
You don't want an ass-kickin'... you
could pick a fight with France...

*

Justthinkin: Why, they'll blame them on us.

(I've been to most of the countries in the region, and without exception anything that goes wrong is always "Someone else's fault". 'Tis the nature of the beast.

Kate: It's forty years since the war. Only Canadian "journalists" over the age of sixty would have a clue as to what happened, since our reporters and pundits know little and research less. An example:

"The facts, man, nothing but the facts"
http://toyoufromfailinghands.blogspot.com/2007/06/fact-man-nothing-but-facts.html

But they surely know how to create a "story":

"The Toronto Star sets its sights..."

It's a must read.
Thanks Kate!

I agree, anyone who questions any aspect of isreal's handling of the whole palestinian situation must be labelled a sympathizer of hamas and an anti-semite!

bob,

Please answer this question Yes or No.

Do you think Israel has an unqualified right to exist?

Not really Bob. Anyone that denies that the Arabs have initiated every war against Israel is not discredited as a Hamas sympathizer, more as history challenged.

The rot that the Palestinians have brought upon themselves is their own doing. Lots of places on this earth have border issues, most normal people make a go of it without perpetual murder and mayhem. Six decades and these clowns could have put a civil society in place irregardless of Israel.

But, then, the rot in the ME can only be assigned to the Arabs too.

I think Bob is waiting for your reply.

Oops....Dave is waiting for you reply, Bob.

the arab armies of the modern era are in about the same league as the french forces during WW2....surrender monkeys, cowards, call them what you like, but one thing is for sure, none have, or had, the balls to face a standing army.....the last act of a coward is to use women and children as bombs and/or shields....go Israel!....GO ARMY!

Just think ISREAL defeated all those other nations against them in the six day war

Dave in Pa., let me spin that back at ya:

Yes or no.... are you one who would challenge their right to exist?

Bye, bob...

Brad,

Short answer to you:

No.

I think Israel has an unqualified right to exist and that all terrorists have an unqualified need to be put six feet under.
The only dialog with terrorists that I favor is 5.56 mm dialog.

I hope that clarifies my viewpoint for you.

Many forget that, in 1973, Israel was very nearly destroyed by Arab forces in two-pronged attack, using Chinese and Russian armaments, particularly SAMs and anti-tank weapons.

Luckily, the Arab's incompetent military leadership made just enough stupid mistakes for Israel to somehow prevail.

The greatest threat to the Palestinians is the Palestinians, and the Arab nations that use them as political pawns, ensuring they live in misery to promote their genocidal aims and to divert attention from their tyranny.

If Israel wasn't full of Jooooooos, I wonder what lefties would think then. I shudder at the thought they are bigots, but their behaviour prevents me from another conclusion.
